Very simple and elegant
I have the chance to meet the author of this book, a simple unassuming man. A real master.

This works are simple to fold, beautiful and integrate into our everyday life and everyday surroundings.

If you like to fold simple items and use it on a daily basis as a decoration or something to spice up a meal or your house when there are visitors, you will find plenty of ideas in this book.

If you are looking for difficult complex models, you will not find it in this book.

A good book to introduce origami to children.

Easy Origami
This is a must have book for any Origami enthusiast. I have never seen so many practical applications for Origami in one book. Easy to understand and follow.

USEFUL origami!
I adore origami, but I never know what to do with all the little folded animals all over my house. This book is the answer to that... its projects are useful! There are boxes, books, and other awesome things. I just love it.

Eenie Meenie Miney Math
I agree this book is so outstanding that it is a crying shame that it is no longer published. This is a small paperback filled with colorful, amusing, illustrations and loaded with wonderful and easily implemented math/play ideas for the preschool crowd. It is useful for parents who want to explore the world of math together with their child and have one whale of a good time doing it. It is a wonderful resource for preschool teachers and can be easily adapted to Kindergarten and First Grade Math Curriculum. Anyone who is familiar with the work of Jean Piaget will treasure this book.

A crying shame that these are no longer printed!
This whole series is so good! Great illustrations and each page chock full of ideas to teach your child in any setting. I play some of these games with my son while we are driving down the road, in the grocery store, at bathtime, etc. Wonderful and fun ideas for even the busiest parents. These authors really know what works with preschoolers!

Best around I have seen. We have added to our science museum
We have added a copy of this to our science museum library. If you had to pick just one book to figure things out with and you cuold take only one book to a mythical desert island.... this would have to be it for general medicine!

Lisa Surgical/Trauma RN
I wish I would have had this book when I was going to school. This book not only defines virtually every medical term but elaborates on essential areas. The beginning of the book is a color atlas of all body systems. eg. Skeletal,GI, Cranial Nerves, Muscles ect. It is then organized as a Dictionary from A-Z. There are clear pictures to help elaborate on definitions and explanations. An example is in the area of Intercranial Pressure. Not only is it defined, it is also explained in detail including ICP monitoring devices and pictures for easy understanding. I have been a nurse for a long time and found this book to be a wonderful reference.... in all areas of nursing.... Everyone on the unit wants to borrow this book and many have already purchased it themselves.

Quality nursing dictionaries
Having used many nursing dictionaries, this one is by far the best. It is very clear and amazingly comprehensive. At the front there is a short anatomy guide followed by a colour atlas. The bulk of the text is fantastic; good diagrams and flow charts throughout reinforce learning and an invaluble pronunciation guide for those of us that haven't studied Latin. To complete, a large Appendix section is included which provides a wealth of useful information for the reader. Although US and Canada focused, this book is a must for any nurse, doctor or allied health worker. At this price, buy it.

The Entrepreneur Magazine Small Business Advisor (Entrepreneur Magazine (Paper))
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (May, 1999)
Author: Inc Staff Entrepreneur Media
Amazon base price: $27.95

Small businesses--those with fewer than 100 employees--account for over 97 percent of all businesses in the U.S. today. If your idea of the American Dream is to join this booming sector with a business of your own, you'll need at least one easy-to-use but comprehensive resource that addresses the inevitable questions in a simplified yet satisfactory manner. The second edition of The Entrepreneur Magazine Small Business Advisor, shaped by the experienced editorial staff of this 20-year-old periodical for aspiring corporate magnates, is just such a reference. Organized logically into sections on "Starting," "Managing," and "Growing Your Business," it covers everything from evaluating your ideas and personal plans to location, licensing, financing, record-keeping, credit management, marketing, sales, expansion, and even selling your business. It doesn't have all the answers, of course, but in almost 650 pages, it does offer quite a bit of help. --Howard Rothman

You cannot afford to be without this book. A great starter
Unless you have a business IQ of 160 +, you really should browse thru this one. It's nice to have on the table when you are comtemplating minding your own business. There is a lot to be said for payroll workers. When they go home they leave work at work. When you run your own business, it's.....well, you guessed it, it stays with you 24/7/365!

This book gives you a broad base of insight and directions to look in and ways to think and talk smarter business. This book helps newbies survive their business model. It helps me. I paid $6.00 on the Amazon used book section. Best $6 I have spent in a long while. Enjoy!

A Superior, Informative Small Business Guide
I have worked in small business development for over 18 years, and for all the knowledge one can attain in that period of time there is always a question that requires research. In addition to consulting my business planning clients, I also write "small business expert" columns on the Internet. In neither case can you afford to make a mistake advising a client or a reader. Every question requiring research on fact and procedure finds me pulling this book off the shelf before any other. Always, I find my answer in this book in a manner that allows me to respond. Furthermore, most small business clients and readers are not thoroughly knowledged in the terminology of finance and marketing. I always strive to explain matters with the use of lay terminology that facilitates their learning process. The Small Business Advisor succeeds in helping me to achieve that goal.

This book should be on the shelf of every small business assistance agency and small business consulting firm. The monetary investment is equal to or greater than any other small business assistance book I can find on the market today.

Great All Around Resource
One of the best all-around resources for starting and operating a small business. Goes from choosing a legal for of business to bookkeeping, to paying taxes, to marketing. Great for anyone wishing to start a new business or to maintain and streamline an existing one.

Essentials of Writing Biomedical Research Papers

Authoritative
Authoritative guide on how to write. I have never seen a more comprehensive book on how to write clearly and write well. I would give it 6 stars if I could. Even non-scientists should read this. (Having said that, though, scientists IN PARTICULAR should read this - hint, hint.)

Great methods for improving your medical writing
Mimi Zeiger has written a truly useful book about medical writing. Many specialized writing books are just collections of general writing rules in disguise.

This books focuses on mechanics and methods of writing specifically for the medical sciences. Full of hands-on techniques, methods, and exercises geared to analyzing and improving your writing.

I'm an experienced technical writer yet still found this book quite useful.
Five stars!

Excellent Book - Best of its kind.
This is an exceptional book. It walks the reader through all stages of writing a biomedical paper, and exemplifies the saying that "clear writing means clear thinking". Even after having written or co-written perhaps 40 biomedical papers and grants, I found this book an eye-opener. I've worked with some excellent writers and re-writers on biomed papers, but Zeiger's book lays out for all of us what some top writers may do by instinct. She starts with word choice, sentence structure, then alternative paragraph structures. She practically shows you the nature of language and thought. She goes through the right way to produce biomed papers - if you ever thought the great, efficient writers had a rule book -you- never got, THIS is the rule book. If you ever had an introduction that sounded like the abstract, or a results sections that was unwieldy, or a discussion section that seemed to repeat the introduction - Zeiger lays out the hidden rules that most people would want to follow. Following her rules, from sentence to paragraph to section, creates a paper that invokes an instinctive sense of clarity in the reader. Many times I had the "Aha!" feeling. The book should be very useful for all kinds of clear writing, including research grants. I never took one of those "scientific writing" classes because I felt smart and fluent and the classes seemed pedestrian. If those classes had used this book, I would have been way ahead to have discovered this information twenty years ago.

Fair Play for Frogs: The Waldie-Frobish Papers

Frogdom Forever. . . .
Having worked for Congressman Waldie in the 70's in Washington, DC, it was a pleasure to read his book, written also by Nestle Frobish. The prefaces are worth almost the whole book, along with the introduction by Mo Udall. Oh, if we had such elected representatives in Washington today.

The wit, the acerbity is great and tells you alot about each man, along with the several incidental characters--i.e. Paul McCloskey, William Hathaway, Art Hoppe, etc.

For a humorous but somewhat educational view of Washington DC and Congress in the 70's, this book is a must read.

Extremely witty "correspondence" book on 1960s/70s politics.
Very funny and instructive set of letters between a uncompromising defender of frogs (Nestle J. Frobish) and a politician (former U.S. Congressman Jerme Waldie -- D, California) that will have you laughing on each page and looking for friends to share it with. Cameo correspondence by Mo Udall, Dick Nixon, Pat McClosky and others add to the fun. And you will learn a bit about grassroots lobbying and the politics of the 1960s/70s from California to WDC -- comparable to Christopher Buckley's THANK YOU FOR SMOKING. World Fair Play for Frogs Committee Creature Person Frobish is an unforgettable character, the epitome of persistence and, if real, a man to keep your eye on (Nixon's instruction to Haldeman). A lost classic for political junkies that explains why Carter beat Udall in the 1976 New Hampshire primary and why Waldie never became governor of California (clearing the way for Governor, soon to be President, Reagan). Don't ever underestimate the true frog-friend's vote!

One of the funniest books ever written!
This drop-dead hysterical book consists of a decades long correspondence between two men.The father of a young boy who wanted to go frog hunting started the ball rolling by writing a tongue-in-cheek letter to his local state legislator regarding a quirk in the state law regarding 'the taking of frogs with a stick'. The legislator responded in kind, and the war of letters escalated. Over the years, the correspondence took on a life of its own, stoked by two people writing riotously funny letters in a deadpan style. This is one book that you will keep on your shelves long after you have read it and reread it

dozens of dolls
This book is full of excellent costumes to fit every ocasion, and use. Balls, walks in the park, traveling, court presentations; "George and Jane" are prepared for it all. The dolls have been great fun and very useful for everything from period dioramas to costume ideas. Even the undergarments on the dolls are apropriate for the period. Certainly my favorite of the Tierney's I own.

wonderful visualization
Being a sucker for everything of the Regency period, I bought Tom Tierney's FASHIONS OF THE REGENCY PERIOD PAPER DOLLS with the hope that it can acquaint me with the odd-named clothing items at the time. I was not disappointed.

In the book we are introduced to George, a young lord who is a fastidious dresser, and his intended, Jane, both of whom display a variety of dazzling outfits for different occasions. These paper dolls are not just for kids-they are wonderful for anyone who, like me, has a hard time visualizing what a Carrick coat or sleeves "edged with swansdown" actually look like.

Are you interested in knowing what Piccadils are? Or what is the proper attire for an audience at Regency court? Get a copy of this book and you'll find out!

Enchanting!!
These paperdolls are definately great gift material, and not just for children. I'm very interested in costume and these illustrations are wonderful. He gives accurate color representations of the periods and well as a delightful narrative!! A great learning tool for school-aged children, it illustrates the fashions of various periods in history. Tom Tierney has a large selection of different eras in history from Eygptian times to the present. Also good for collectors of various memorabilia, with Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, and Princess Diana, etc. featured.

Used in UGA graduate class
This book is actually used as one of two required textbooks for my graduate-level Ecology class at the Institute of Ecology at The University of Georgia. It is a great collection of foundational papers in Ecology for anyone interested in this area of study. It is an excellent reference resource to have handy for any serious Ecology student, professor, fanatic, etc.

A Must Have for any serious student
Nearly a decade ago my colleague Bill Drury and I ran into each other in the hall, each of us waving this book & on the way to give it to the other. We had both been teaching out of endless stacks of xeroxes of xeroxes because neither of us had any time for conventioal textbooks. Bless Real & Brown for putting together not only some really key papers but also intelligent thoughtful commentary by some of the leading lights in the field. I have used the book ever since it came out & my students find it a valuable resource to take off to grad school. I must admit that while the selection is lovely there ARE some missing pieces & the xeroxes of xeroxes haven't altogether disappeared, but this is far and away the best out there to date. So, when can we expect the 2nd addition?

important contribution to theoretical ecology
there are not many books on the theoretical background of ecology available, yet. hence, "foundations of ecology" is a valuable contribution to the discussion on ecological (self-)identity. not only are the papers selected of great importance on their own, the additional introductory sequences also succeed to put pieces together, to display the broad horizont and context, in which they ought to be understood, and show the contemporary view of historical scientific work. a lot of my personal theoretical considerations would have been impossible without information and motivation this book offered.

Not at all antiquated!
Paper-doll-making ninja Tom Tierney returns with another masterpiece: Glamorous Movie Stars of the 1950s!

Like all his other gorgeous renderings (Pope John Paul II, Grace Kelly, etc.), Tierney's two-dimensional figurines are delightful. The likenesses are spot-on, and the clothing options (flowing ball gowns, sultry set costumes) are divine! Doris Day, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor...they're all here!

(You may ask why Marilyn Monroe isn't included...it's because she's got a whole book to herself!)

Being somewhat of a collector, I purchased two copies of this gorgeous book ...

susan hayward....WOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tHE ARTISTRY IN THIS IS GREAT!Miss Hayward is perfectly captured in a very beautiful doll.Doris Day and especially Audery Hepburn
are perfectly drawn.Miss Reynolds and Jane Russell are outstanding, with Jane in the killer Red dress from Gentlemen prefere Blondes.Where's Marilyn is my only complaint. But each inclusion here is great.

Glamour in the 50s!
I loved this book - these are truly the most glamorous movie stars of the 1950s & I love having this in my collection.

The Great International Paper Airplane Book

My dad bought this book for me when I was 9 years old, and I was hooked on making paper airplanes for years--and so was he! This delightful book, first published in 1967, and still in print, brings together plans for the 20 best of the 11,851 entrants from the 1st International Paper Airplane contest sponsored by Scientific American. Some trivia: the smallest entry was .08" x .00003 inches; the largest, 11 feet!. Guranteed to provide hours of amusement, and possibly even inspire careers in aerodynamics. (The polymathic primary author of this book--Jerry Mander--has also written a tremendous volume on the inherent evils of television as a medium, Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television).

A childhood door to Wonder
My dad had this book at home and since we were living on the top floor I had endless opportunities to experiment and litter the neighbourhood with planes made from this book's design. An evergreen favourite is Sakoda's Origami Supersonic Jet.
The first part of the book consists of a superbly eclectic history of the paper airplane with many ideas that will lead may a child of any age into endless hours of dreamy fun.
I found this book again this year in a Seattle bookshop and it brought back many happy memories!

An Inspirational Book
In a world of hi-technology, electronics, computers and robotics, it's amazing such a book is still in print. This book has been a great inspiration for me through the years as it has thought me alot, not only about folding paper airplanes. It teaches us all that though we may have super-computers today, it's the creativity that matters afterall, because the best idea could possibly be the simplest.

The Most Varied and Entertaining Paper Airplane book
This was my firt paper airplane book and I have since bought quite a few. It is my favorite and I still refrence it for new ideas. Its designs are more varied than books with designs by just one author. The written portion is also very clever. It makes me hope for another Internations Paper Airplane Contest.
