An enticng tale that demands a sequel!
The Deadly Papers by two very gifted writers, Stefanie Court and Barbara Soden, was an enticing tale that demands a sequel. I want to read more, please!

A story of intrique, suspense and everything a good (make that a very good) mystery should be.

The plot is exciting and the characters easy to identify with. The Deadly Papers is well worth the read!

I was suprised
I was suprised when I read the book. I know the authors and didn't expect the book to be as good as it was. It is truly a wonderful story and it captured my attention and I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed it and wished it had been longer. I am waiting for the sequel!!

On the edge
I was on the edge of my seat reading this book "The Deadly Papers". I couldn't put it down. It was a fast read at only 186 pages. I was left wanting more. I would love to see a sequel. I liked the characters very much and the plot lines, everything flowed. Nicely done!

Need to know the titles of the 16 Johnny Fedora secret agent books that Shaun Lloyd McCarthy wrote under his Desmond Cory pseudonym between 1951 and 1971? See page 67 of this immediately essential guide to everything you ever wanted to learn about mysteries written by men. The volume is a worthy successor to Willetta L. Heising's Detecting Women. On page 142, you'll find the four Nick Duffy books that famous British novelist Julian Barnes wrote under the name of Dan Kavanagh, and on page 154 you'll find out how to pronounce John T. Lescroart's last name--(LES-kwah). In fact, there's a need-to-know nugget on every page of this informative and entertaining enterprise.

Outstanding reference work for mystery lovers!
No, this is not a sequel to "The Rules." "Detecting Men" is a gorgeously produced, well-edited and probably comprehensive catalog of over 600 men who have written mystery series.

Take note of all those qualifiers, because the format is slightly different from Heising's companion volume, "Detecting Women 3." While that reference (a third edition, hence the "3") covers all living female writers and a good portion of those who have since died, space limitations forced "Detecting Men" to limit itself. So, while Anna Katherine Green (who wrote mysteries back in the 1880s) and Agatha Christie are in "DW3" you won't find Ellery Queen and Rex Stout in "DM." Even under those restrictions, "Detecting Men" still offers nearly 450 pages of information, compared with 384 pages in the other book.

So what do you get for your money? A paragraph on each author accompanied by a checklist of each series book, with notations for those which were nominated or winners of writing awards like the Edgar, Anthony and Shamus.

While that section is fascinating in itself for the minutae about the authors, the second half of "DM" contains charts, charts and more charts that can help the series reader locate all kinds of information. Readers of police procedurals will find four pages listing authors, when they wrote, the character's name and profession and setting. Looking for mysteries involving journalists? "DM" lists 25, from Dick Belsky' reporter Lucy Shannon to Collin Wilcox' Stephen Drake (a newspaper reporter with ESP). There's 14 small-town sleuths, two surburban detectives, 15 gay and lesbian detectives and 14 disabled detectives. Detectives are also listed by first name, settings, the year they appeared, and by title. The latter category appeals to the trivia buff in me; not surprisingly, there are a long list of titles beginning with dead, death, and murder, but I didn't expect 31 beginning with "gently." Sounds like the ideal niche for a book collector.

The pseudonym section can help straighten out who wrote want, as well as help find a favorite author's other works. P.C. Doherty, for example, has published books under his own name as well as under Michael Clynes, Ann Dukthas, C.L. Grace and Paul Harding and, possibly, Anna Apostolou. Best-selling author Jack Higgins ("The Eagle Has Landed") has also written as Martin Fallon, James Grapham and Hugh Marlowe. This section may prove disappointing to those who learn that Lydia Adamson's light-hearted animal mysteries was, in fact, written by Frank King.

It Slices, It Dices
No, this book is not a Vegematic. Call it the Cuisinart of crime. Ms. Heising takes her well-researched author bios, book chronologies, award info and handy cross-references, blends them together and produces this tasty concoction of P.I.s, M.O.s and FYIs. Great book!

As great a read and reference as Detecting Women 2.
Outstanding reference for all mystery fans as a companion to Heising's award winning Detecting Women 2. Makes Mystery reading even more enjoyable.

Fantastic illustrations
This book gives a brief history of the dresses. The illustrations are quite good. He actually manages to capture Diana very well in his presentation. If you want to see the dresses that were at the Charity Auction this is definately the one to get. The book is printed on high quality paper so you are sure to enjoy this one for a long time.

excellent, a real special memory of Princess Diana
I first came in contact with this book in a city 800 miles away from home, I purchased it right away. I am looking for more books, and would like to know if there is a catalogue, which I could choose from.

Top Tierney
This is an excellent book with 1 doll and 31 famous dresses drawn by Tom Tierney. A perfect reminder of just how beautiful Princess Diana was, and her likeness and poise have been perfectly captured.

easy paper-pieced miniatures
Easy to follow directions. Great set up instruction as far as cutting, yardage etc. Really had a ball making these little gems!

Miniature Heaven
I am new to quilting. For my second project I made the Log Cabin Garden, which is an absolutely stunning design. Then I made two more Log Cabin Garden mini's for the quilting practice. Now I am hooked on Mini's. As a beginner, I found Carol Doak's instructions thorough and easy to understand. Carol Doak takes the reader step-by-step from the beginning of the quilting process to the end. Her paper pieced foundation technique makes the impossible looking mini quilt a cinch to make. Guaranteed to be an idiot-proof project.

P.S.
P.S. - Won the blue ribbon for small wall hangings at the 1999 WV State Fair with her "Mariner's Compass." (Thanks, Carol!)

The Best Elmo Book
This is my Baby Daughter's absolute favorite book. I bought it when she was five months old, because she had the Chicken Elmo toy that she really liked. She just loves this book. She's eight months old and it's really the only book that captures her full attention. (The Hungry Caterpillar comes in second.) We've tried buying other Elmo books, but she's just not as interested in them.

Fun and Funny
My daughter (22 months old) loves this book. The main characteris Elmo, and features a couple of the other sesame Street characters. The book has a great rhyming pattern and my daughter loves when Elmo sneezes and as a consequence knocks thimgs down. My daughter loves all the Early Step into Reading books I've purchased. They offer alot of Sesame Street titles which are great. These books are wonderful for the next step in reading (going from picture books to longer stories with a plot).

Wonderful Book for little ones
This is one of the best books I've found for my daughter. At 21 months this is her absolute favorite book. She won't go anywhere with out "Achoo". She's giggles at every page and can identify all the people inside. We use it to practice colors and shapes. We love to sneeze whenever Elmo does. This is a must have for toddlers. I just placed several more of the Early Step into Reading series in my shopping cart.

The Five Sisters
Out of all the books I've read by Margaret Mahy this is my favorite, The Five Sisters. The story starts with Sally's nana cuting a row of five paper dolls. She picks up a pencil and draws the first face. But before she can finish the rest of the faces, the five sisters are of to their journey. Saved by winds, soaked by water, and almost burned by fire, they never stumbled in their search for a mysterious island on the edge of the sea. As you can see the five sisters is a magical fantasy. I assure you that while your reading this story you willl have laughter, wonder, and adventure in you. If you are looking for an enjoyable book, The Five Sisters is the one you should read.

MY REVIEW: I LOVE IT
It sis a wonderufl book. The pictures are really interesting and the wordds are very descriptive.I like the way the authour sends the five sisters into an adventure from evil pig magicians to mighty whirlwinds to burning fire and finally to the island where they finally stopped holding hands. I also liked the way the gave each sister a special characteristic. Alpha is adventurous, Cathabelle is literate, Elodie is represenatitive of sadness and joy, Icasia is very intelligent, and Zamira is the clown. I thik that this book is good for kids all ages.

WWWWWOOOOOOWWWWWWW!
This is a book that a friend of mine was reading and said it was a really good book and that I should read it. So I read it and loved it. This book is about a chain of paper dolls that are hooked together [you know like a set of things where you cut out one design and unfold it and you have that design repeated but the hands in our case are hooked together.]Well a girl's grandma makes her set but they are doll's and the girl draw's one's fetures and does'n get the chance to finish them [by the way there is five dolls hint hint] anyway every person that gets one of the dolls puts there own personalty and feelings at that time into the five dolls or sisters so that they are all differant and I can't tell you any more or it well ruin the story.

One Man's Journey; Inspiration for a Nation
Standing in line at the Lincoln Memorial, a book beckoned to me that I previously hadn't seen before. The face of Frederick Douglas grabbed my attention; a man that I've respected for many years, encountering him mainly through my study of Abraham Lincoln. On the spur of the moment, I snatched up a copy of "My Bondage and My Freedom", and within a few days, my admiration in Frederick Douglass was transformed from interest to awe.

Frederick Douglass orginially penned his book as a response to people's accusations that someone as articulate and composed as he couldn't possibly be a former slave. With that goal in mind, Douglass wrote his memoirs, in a straight forward, powerful way. In the book, he painfully and honestly documents the path his early life took; the memories of being owned, how slaves coped during these times, and how he managed to pull himself out of it all.

While Douglass' life in itself is amazing, (as he describes the amazing process he undertook to learn how to read), what amazed me even more are Douglass' discourses that he sprinkles through the book, discussing relevant issues during the time. In one instance, he addresses the concern about why slaves simply didn't run away from their oppressive situations. It's almost as if you can actually hear the people talking to Douglass and he responding to them.

This book does not only tell the tale of a truly amazing American, but gives us a unique insight to the times. This book should be required reading in every high school in this country.

Amazing! Will Inspire All Who Read.
This is an absolutely amazing book. Douglass is truly one of the most amazing figures from America's dark era of slavery. His story, from his roots in Talbot County, Maryland, to his freedom above the Mason-Dixon, will amaze anyone who reads it.
After reading this book, I couldn't believe how one human being could overcome such trials and tribulations as Douglass did. He is a self-learned individual, a truly gifted orator, and a real icon of our country's history. Don't sleep on this man's story!

My Bondage of Freedom by Frederick Douglass
What are your impressions of Frederick Douglass? What would you say about Douglass observation that "conscience cannot stand much violence? Do you think it was possible to be a good slave owner? Why or why not? Why does Douglass view slaveholders as well as slaves as victims of slavery? Why is education incompatible with slavery? Why do you think the white children's attitude toward slavery is different from that of their parents? How would you describe Douglass attitude towards Mrs. Auld?

This is hysterical!
What can you say about cut-out dolls? Well, this is the first family, George our President and his wife Laura, and two kids. They come with a full array of formal and informal attire, sportwear and even the Texas kinds of outfits.

Fun for the whole family, you can mix and match -- see George in a ballgown and Laura in a tux! If you are planning ahead for your election day parties (and who doesn't!), this would be a great addition regardless of which political party you belong to. Use this to cheer in the Bush re-election or the arrival of a new president, just hope we don't go through the hanging-chad problem again!

Fashion conscious people will want to add wardrobe from other paper-doll books -- there's a good one on the pope, so what would George Bush look like in the pope's regalia? You'll have to try it to find out.

Lots of fun!

High quality , made to last
You may want to buy two sets, one for use, and one to keep. Tom has a way of capturing the essence of a personality in his dolls. These are no exception. These are produced on high quality paper and you will be proud to keep these for many years to come. They aren't made like the dolls that we used to play with as children, the paper is much more sturdy.

Them boots (let them hate as long as they fear)
This product may well become a collector's item some day.

In an uncanny and prescient manner them boots answer the question in John B. Kiesling's resignation letter from the Foreign Service in protest against the policy of the Bush administration:

"Why does our president condone the swaggering and contemptuous approach to our friends and allies this administration is fostering, including among its most senior officials? Has 'oderint dum metuant' really become our motto?"

My hat's off to the perceptive first reviewer below.

Kyle's Review of Deputy Dan and the Bank Robbers
Deputy Dan was an interesting character because he was funny. He always does just what he is told. When he is told to answer the door he says, "Hello door!" instead of opening it. This was my favorite part too. I would recommend this book because if you like funny stories, you will like the story about Deputy Dan.

Deputy Dan's Review of Deputy Dan and the Bank Robbers
Hi This is a great book, I was a School Resource Officer for 3 years and the kids love to hear stories of my chosen career , so, i tell them it is similar to the book because we have to do what the Sheriff says and it is a lesson in following instructions even in school as a student.

Deputy Dan and The Bank Robbers
We love this book! The story is very simple to follow and is very funny. Deputy Dan is comparible to Amelia Bedelia books. The sheriff will give deputy Dan an order and deputy Dan follows it to the letter. Like when he tells him to pick up his horse and go after the bank robbers. Deputy Dan knows he can not pick up his horse, it is too heavy, but he always follows orders so he gets a crane to pick up his horse. We read this story aloud to the kids and we all giggle at the antics of deputy Dan. I highly recommend this book to all families. It is a joy.

Good variety of patterns and applications.
I bought this book 15 months or so ago and loved it from the start. What look to be complicated and tricky designs are really straight-forward. There are coloured pages of striking combinations to demonstrate possibilities along with instructions if you want to copy. Otherwise you can have a lot of fun making up your own from the good variety of patterns/settings. I love foundation piecing and Ms Doak's patterns have been straight-forward to sew and pleasing to look at.

Easy Machine Paper Piecing
I found this to be a great beginner book. I took a class in paper piecing and used this book many times to cement the procedure in my head.
I highly recommend having this book in your quilting library.

A GREAT book for quilting..simply the best!
