Quick easy-to-use guide to writing ethical wills
Dr. Barry Baines provides a thoughtful explanation of ethical wills, describing for readers the historical context of the practice and outlining how people today can leave a lasting legacy for their loved ones by putting their values on paper. The guidance he provides in this handbook makes it possible for anyone to write an ethical will, whether they've just learned of the practice or grown up reading ethical legacies of their ancestors. This is an excellent guide.

Great Overview of Ethical Wills
Ethical Wills: Putting Your Values on Paper provides a terrific introduction to ethical wills, with historical background, specific guidelines for writing an ethical will, and a variety of samples. With its reader-friendly tone and clear suggestions, Ethical Wills makes a useful handbook for anyone interested in creating such a document. I especially appreciated the sample wills to show a range of approaches.
This book was a great help to me when I started writing ethical wills. As a member of the Association of Personal Historians, I help others record their own ethical wills and family stories. I keep this book in my professional library and recommend it often.
My only beef? It's too short! I wanted more samples and more history. Guess I'll have to wait for Dr. Baines' next book.

Excellent guide to ethical wills.
I found this to be a wonderful guide to ethical wills. As a video biographer I often find that clients wish to speak about their values and beliefs, and tell their loved ones how important they are. This book enabled me to aid my clients with this aspect. The time spent on values is often one of the most touching and commented on parts of the final video. I found out about this book through the Association of Personal Historians, as a member of this group the author has contributed greatly to our knowledge in this area.

A Math Lover
This is a great book for math haters or math lovers. There are lots of interesting facts, games, and riddles, whether you think you are great or think you are terrible at math. If you hate math, this book can change your life. We have a copy of this book at home, and I've purchased this book to give to some of my children's friends and some home-schooling parents I know. I think giving this book to anyone who is afraid of math, whatever their age, is a great idea. I also highly recommend "Math for Smarty Pants", also by Marilyn Burns.

I used to, BUT NOW I DON'T
This book make you to love math, to know how to see the nice things in it. If you want your kid to love math, (or at least not to hate it...) you owe him this book.

Great book
Lots of fun things any kid (or grownups) who might or might not hate math, but has a openable mind. All three of our kids have enjoyed things from this book, and I've used some of the activities with 9th graders. Highly recommended.

An Exciting Book
Kit Saves the Day is easily the best book in the Kit series. Kit's Aunt Millie is staying at Kit's house and she has put Kit to work planting and caring for a garden. Kit is doing her chores in the garden one day when a young boy named Will walks into her yard. Aunt Millie sees him and immediatly invites him to join them for supper. Will tells Kit and her friend Stirling about the 'hobo jungle'. When Will leaves, Kit notices that she and Stirling didn't give him any food for his journey! Kit knew that Will would need food, so she and Stirling walk to the hobo jungle. There, they see ragged people with holey clothes and shoes. Kit meets Will's friend Lester. Lester persuades Kit and Stirling to hop a frieght train! The train is stopped because hopping trains is against the law. The police take Kit, Stirling, and Will to jail! Can Kit make it out of jail and save the day? Read this exciting book to find out! You won't be able to put it down!

A Wonderful Book
Kit is sad this summer because her brother Charlie went off to college. One day a hobo named Will came to Kit's house. Will came from Texas. Kit's Mother invites Will to eat dinner with them that night. Will shows Kit and Stirling some hobo signs. Will tells them about the hobo stew. Kit wants to try the hobo stew. He also tells about the hobo jungle. That's where the hobos live. So the next day Kit and Stirling take food to the people who live at the hobo jungle . But while they are there, they learn about jumping rails. They do it and get sent to jail. Kit leans a very valuable lesson. I really liked this story. It shows how much we have to be thankful for. Kit won't be looking for adventure for a little while. This is one of my favorite Kit books ever!

Summer fun for Kit!
Summer arrives and Kit is as bored as ever. She is very ready for an adventure. It seems the chance comes when a hobo named Will that came from Texas comes to their looking for work and a meal. From Will Kit and Stirling learns about the hobo jungle and the fun and hardships to the hobo life. Hobo life seems very interesting to Kit as she learns from Will about jumping rails from town to town, hobo signals, and many more. Kit is even more interested in the so call "hobo stew"! When will leaves without taking any food for the hobo stew Kit and Stirling set out on a adventure to find the hobo jungle. However Kit got way more then she bargained for and has a great adventure that teaches a lesson. I won't tell you what it is. All I can say is that it includes getting arrested and finally leads up to Kit saving the day! A great addition to the American Girls Collection that all ages will enjoy!!!

'A supreme example of literary bravado'
The introduction claims this is an extraordinary book and it surely is. It does bare some resemblance to 'The Life and Opinions of Tristam Shandy' but is markedly more inventive, more engaging. Partly it is because it is two stories entwined but also disengaged. And each is of great complexity - the one being a truly captivating mystery but one that progresses ever so slowly, almost catching me unawares and making me wonder - for a while - if this wasn't the first detective story, and the other being the musings of the character of the title - Tomcat Murr. Yes, a cat actually writes the story! By the end of the novel - and it was a long and slow read for me - every character was someone I felt totally at sympathy with (which is not something I could say for the characters in Tristam Shandy). ...

I found this novel a long, hard read - the ideas and interrelationships are dense. But by the end of it I loved all the characters, they are part of my family. It is no wonder that Hoffmann had such a great impact in the world of music - his writing can get right under your skin - well, it certainly got under mine. I will read this novel again. It is simply so good, so captivating...

A Masterpiece
A remarkable example of the simply astoundig gifts of Hoffmann's writing, one of the few unquestionable genius in literature's history. E.T.A Hoffmann manages to blend, with overpowering skill and boldness, fantasy, wittiness, irony, sharp political criticism and lyricism, giving to the cultivated reader an endless cornucopia of sophisticated, intelligent gladness.

The first Post-Modern novel?
Hoffmann was one of the most influential writers of the early 19th cventury. A composer and critic as well as writer of often bizarre fiction, Hoffmann set the tone for much of Romantic literature (especially the combination of the bourgeois and the supernatural), and provided the plots for operas and ballets (including Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann and Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker). This novel, which intersperses the memoirs of a cat (appropriately named Murr) with the "random pieces of wastepaper" the cat shredded out of a biography of the composer Kreisler (Hoffmann's alter ego?). In the late 20th century, we came to take the idea of intercutting two unrelated narratives for granted as a Post-modern breakdown of narrative authority. Yet here is the same device, in 1820! Just when you're emotionally invested in one story, it abruptly shifts back to the other. Moreover, Murr's "cat's eye view" of human interaction turns the entire book into a sly critique of the declining aristocrats and rising bourgeois of Europe at the time. A brilliant, compelling, often hilarious read. You'll understand why Schumann, Brahms, and so many others thought of Hoffmann as their favorite writer.

Wonderful Christmas Story
The Christmas story is about a young girl growing up in colonial times. Felicity is extremely excited about her invitation to attend a dancing lesson at the Governor's Palace. It is every young girls dream to be there, and Felicity has received this wonderful honor. Felicity wants the most beautiful dress to wear, like the one on her fashion doll. Knowing how much it costs and that her family is very poor she wants it anyway. Her mother promises Felicity the dress. The plan was for her mother to make the gown by hand. However Felicity's mother become very ill. Felicity is worried that her dress will not be completed on time, and she is ashamed for being disappointed about the dress when her mom is sick. On the night of the dance when Felicity has come to realize that she would not go her mother gives her a wonderful surprise. She had found strength to finish the dress that was her daughters Christmas wish. Felicity is the most beautiful girl at the party and realizes that dreams do come true.
I believe that Tripp gave a wonderful representation of that the colonial times was like. She represented Felicity very realistically. Any girl in her palace would be disappointed if she could not go to the party, yet feel a sad burden that the mother is sick as well. Felicity hoped for a miracle simply that her mother would get better not even thinking of her own wish for a completed dress and ended up getting both wishes.
I loved the American Girl books growing up specifically Felicity's stories. I am amazed that Tripp can grab children's attention book after book. And you learn so much about the time period in the process of reading. I enjoyed reading this book again.

Great, as Usual
American Girl books are great, this one included. Felicity's fear when her mother becomes sick let us realize how feelings for what is really important to us - family members, a feeling of security, friendship - haven't change a lot since Revolutionary days, both in America and worldwhile. What changes is how we live the everyday life - we drive cars and not carts, at school we learn science and not how to serve tea... Just one question, how long will we have to wait for a Native American Girl, and for a Jewish American Girl?

Great Historical Book!
I read this book because I was learning about the American Revolution in class. This is a very touching book that anyone can enjoy. Learn about Felicity's dream doll at the store that she wished to get, the dance she was invited to by the mayor, the disease that her mother had. I really enjoyed this book because of the wonderfully illustrated pictures and the great story. In fact, all of the Felicity books are "da bomb"!

Much better than Waumbaugh
I like Ed Dee's books. His dialouge is fast and very funny at times. His two cops have their problems, but they still do their job and do it well. Unlike Waumbaugh's drunken idiots who don't deserve to wear their badges. All of Ed Dee's books ring with authenticity and they move fast. I've never put one of his books down because I found myself bored or disgusted with the lack of accuracy. Sonething that I have done many times with Waumbaugh, won't even read his books anymore. I'm a police officer in the West and I've only worn a uniform for a short while. But while my city may not be the Big Apple and my department's entire force wouldn't fill up one small precinct building Ed Dee writes with complete authenticity. Some things are the same in law enforcemnt no matter where you are. Now this is a general review of his works, but Little Boy Blue is good with a couple of twists at the end. Read it as well as all his other books. You won't regret it.

J Briant
Again the author ED DEE brings to the reader a gripping tale that illustrates hard working Detectives Ryan and Gregory investigating the death of a young cargo handler and in doing so brings to the reader an action-packed hunt for a murderer. It shows the push and pull of families testing their loyalty AND some of the betrayal COMES ALIVE. I was saddened by the killing of the young man. It is a must read for it lifts the cover into a great story that only DEE could create. The Author is brilliant in creating emotion in this fast moving story. Sensational.

The real McCoy. By a cop about crooks.
If you have read either of Ed Dee's other two books, you will do what I did after reading the first one: which is to run down to the bookstore and buy the other two. "Little Boy Blue" is a fast-paced, highly entertaining novel written by an author who knows how the good guys talk and the bad guys talk and what they say to each other and about each other. The dialogue is so good you'll think you're actually eavesdropping. Read it. You'll like it.

A good introduction to the early history of MEMS.
A good introduction to the early history of MEMS. The only drawback is that Trimmer has felt the need to include as many of his personal papers as possible. This blatant self-aggrandizement brings into question the validity of some of his selections.

Excellent book on the seminal research and development.
Dr. Trimmer's book is a wealth of articles from the early days of MEMS. I highly recommend it for any serious students and professionals in the field. For the student it provides insights into the original research and development. The first, and perhaps most significant paper that I recommend for students is "Microrobots and Micromechanical Systems" beginning on page 96. An understanding of scaling laws, as presented in this paper, is essential to an understanding of the potential and utility of MEMS. The professional will also find this book to be an excellent desk reference.

Essential MEMS Reference!
This book is a wonderful addition to the currently limited, quality books on MEMS. Sums up the history of the field quite well. Includes many hard to find articles with many interesting comments by one of the early members of the field, Dr. William Trimmer.

A good starting point on Open Source.
This book is a compilation of essays on open source from the author. He covers the origins and history, as well as a responsible coverage of the licensing models. While there is an over emphasis of Linux, it does talk about various business models that can be used in the open source context. It also includes the text of some of the major open source licenses.

An Insider Home Run
Sometimes a home run is little more than a hit causing an increment tick to a stat, but once in a while it's a powerful work of art that changes the game--Donald Rosenberg's book is the latter. It is, by far, the best book on Open Source written to date.

As someone involved with open source strategies at a large corporation in the computer industry, I found Donald's book to be objective, insightful, and current which reflects an intimate knowledge of someone on the inside.

The level-headedness of this book makes it an essential read for anyone trying to understand the counter-intuitive nature of open source or protect themselves from the FUD, emotions, and convoluted conversations that plague Open Source.

Open Source - The Unauthorized White Papers
This was an excellent book; well researched, well written, and well organized. This book provided a remarkable contrast to "The Cathedral and the Baazar", which, while interesting, was generally poor in its organization and far too biased to take seriously. Although the author is obviously biased towards open sourse, this is the most objective book I've read coming from the open source community. Rosenberg often objectively points out the challenges the open source debate will face legally and philisophically in the near future. This is a great reference book for anyone interested in the open source debate.

Excellent book...i truly loved the story
Mark Anthony is a truly gifted and unique writter...Paper chaser AkA Urban masscare is a story that will draw you into the world of young males growing up in Queens and how they have that drive to get that money and do whatever it'll takes to succeed in the drug trade. I loved the way he wrote the book without any cursing...shows skills to do something different and you still feel the story. I'm truly waiting for his next book to drop.

Mark Anthony is the voice of a new generation
If you want a read that is well worth the cost of the book, Paper Chasers by Mark Anthony is the one for you. The book is set in Queens, New York during the summer of 1991 and it reveals the painful truth of the devestating impact of the crack epidemic at that time. Every character was realistic, every situation was believable, every plotline tied together. In short, this book was the bomb. Right down to the SLANG DICTIONARY...now that's gangsta!

Mark Anthony writes in a voice that is both lyrical and spiritual. It is this, that makes Mark stand out as a writer among his peers and a teacher among his generation. God bless you, Mark and keep up the good work.

Mark Anthony is a true trendsetter and pioneer.
I have never read a novel written in first person that so vividly portrays what was really going on in the drug infested streets of Queens back in 91.
