One of the first books I tried and I found it to be a great book for a beginner - easy to understand instructions, which walk you through to a finished painting. Good way to learn the tecniques such as wet-on-wet etc. You may not love the subject matter but you can always improvise as your confidence grows

The Ice crystal technique is a nature artist's dream! The images created by the cobweb technique was my favorite. It really brought the child out in me. This book will be appreciated by all watercolor artists, beginner and professional.

I found this to be a unique approach to a group of well-known artists in which the author analyses their importance in history from a philosophical perspective rather than a traditional analysis of style and subject matter.

An excellent book that explores an area of the Cuban arts that remains somewhat clouded - the painters of Cuba's first avant-garde movement. The book is well-written and easy to read without being boring or esoteric and the selection of artwork is perfect for the content. Martinez shows a lot of care and research in this topic.

I have been availing myself of different books about art and artists as sort of a do-it-yourself art appreciation course. This week I had read a couple about Picasso so I checked out this volume devoted to Cubism as an Art Revolution. Between 1908 and 1914, Cubism was developed in France, led by the French painter Georges Braque and the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. As Linda Bolton explains, the Cubists created works in which objects and people were broken up and rearranged like geometric forms. Of course, this went against the entire tradition of western art. But with the invention of photography realistic depiction of objects was no longer the goal of artists, who were now heading in the other direction. Like the Impressionists, the Cubists were pioneers of the experimental arts of the 20th Century.

Bolton looks at some of the influences on the Cubists, such as Paul Cezanne's "Lake at Annecy," Eadweard Muybridge's series of photographs of an athlete running, and African art such as masks. After looking at the works of Picasso and Braque (Picasso's 1907 oil painting "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon" is seen as the starting point of Cubism), Bolton presents a series of other important Cubist artists. Bolton comments on every painting reproduced in the book, explaining how it represents or extends the idea of Cubism. The book's glossary distinguishes between various forms of Cubism (e.g., Analytical Cubism, Synthetic Cubism) as well as related movements (e.g., Constructivism and Futurism). "Cubism" provides a solid introduction for young readers and us older folks, who are just exploring some of the more interesting approaches to modern art.

(thank god they have a copy!), i fell in love immediately with the beautiful illustrations and lovely text. of course the author is italian!

David Brody paints the best paintings ever. He rulz

Whilst visiting India I wished to purchase a record of my visit there. Having been many times before and working for the last 13 years with people from the Asian continent, I wanted something that reflected what I knew of them and that region.

David Genlteman's book brings to life many of the mannerisms and features of the people from all over India in a manner reminiscant of Lowry. His detailed watercolours of the local architecture convey the substance of the subject.

Wow, David Salle is an amazing artist. And Massimo Audiello is an extremely interesting and intellectual person. Mr. Salle proves to go beyond the cramped confines of the boho noho soho art scene, and is up there with the greats, like Leroy Neiman, Victor Vasarely and Erte. A stunner!
