I can't praise this book enough. Corot's work in Italy are in my mind some of the greatest plein air painting ever done.Seeing his work compared to his contemporaries etc. is very interesting. One also appreciates the allure of the Italian landscape. Corot is sometimes viewed as the father of Impressionism(his later work). But I could look at these landscapes all day. His realism and fresh painting technique is really sumptuous, and it's a good thing he found his niche in painting rather late.Buy this book, you won't regret it if you love landscape.

This is a very high quality academic book on different paintings of Rembrandt. The Editors are true experts in the field. The price is considerable but in the history of art - there is no better reference work for paintings by Rembrandt. I am already saving for the next volume on self-portraits, which will hopefully be out soon.

This book makes a great gift. I love the homespun stories and the charming paintings. Wonderful!

This is a wonderful book for the lover of the old English cottage painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is filled with full colored pictures on every page of the paintings and describes life in these times. A great addition to anyone's library who is interested in these times and the painter's who so aptly captured a way of life long gone. Paintings by Allingham, Strachan, Stannard, Foster and others are included.

I got this book out at a libray for a school report. I had it last minute and this book really saved me. It's got just about every aspect of Gustave Courbet's life explained in plain English. A great resource for a student or a teacher. A must buy for an art buff.

The Cowboy Artists of America Museum (now the National Center for American Western Art) was built several years ago near the location of the trails I rode as a teenager growing up in Kerrville, Texas. I visit the museum every time I am in Kerrville and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. For years, I have wished for a book that contains a wide representation of the paintings of the members of the Cowboy Artists of America, and this book surpasses my greatest expectations. It is always a challenge to reproduce great art in book form, but Greenwich has done a superb job. The book is very well organized and contains interesting biographies of the artists, along with a collection of the paintings of each. I would recommend it without reservation to anyone interested in art, especially Western art. The reproductions are almost as breathtaking as the actual paintings, not an easy task to accomplish.

This is the best book I've read this year. It talks about the exciting days of the Old West when cowboys rounded up cows and horses, when outlaws roamed the range, and when Indians hunted buffalo. The conflicts come between the cowboys and the Indians about the hunting of the buffalo (almost to extinction), which brings starvation to the Indian. The gunfighter still lives in the chapters about such famous ones as Bat Masterson, Doc Holliday, Virgil and Morgan Earp, and the best gunfighter of all time, Wyatt Earp.

If you're a fan of the old west, you will probably enjoy this book.

Most airbrushing books provide a few terse pages on the "tools of the trade" and then dive into examples of technique and application. The airbrush novice is left wondering why he or she can't even get the tool operating properly, let alone create something beautiful. This book devotes about half of its content to help the reader understand how the airbrush works, accessories required for their use, details on how paints and pigmentation work, tips on airbrush usage, and maintenance techniques. A wide variety of painting techniques and applications follow. The book closes with a short but effective troubleshooting section. This may not be the only book you'll buy on airbrushing, but it should be the first.

Schade's book is extremely thorough and has some excellent analysis of the Cranach family's work, studio practice, and possible influences. The writing is clear, concise and eminently readable. There is an invaluable list of all of the documents that mention Cranach, with great Luther references-- Lucas Cranach the Elder actually enlisted Luther's help when one of his assistants was accused of murder! This is the best work in English available on the Cranachs.
