This book is a choice pick for anyone interested in the humanities. Dunning skillfully incorporates philosophy with the artistic creation of the illusion of space over time. His ideas are thoughtfully presented, his language is clear, and his ideas are intelligent. It is clear that this man is well-read, and he combines this understanding with a strongly rooted comprehension of the process of painting.

As an admirer of Chardin I was realy glad to buy this book. Actually this is not a book, this is a treasure. It is an exhaustive work on Master Chardin not only on his still lifes but his work as a whole. The quality of the presentation in one of the best I have ever seen in art books!

This thorough collection of Charles Webster Hawthorne's paintings demonstrates his accomplishments in figure, portrait, and landscape painting. Drawing early inspiration from 17th century Dutch genre painting, then from his studies of Manet and the early impressionists, he achieved a stunning freedom of technique and sponaneity in his watercolor landscapes. Painter and teacher, Hawthorne maintains the tension between abstracton and realism, evidenced in the wonderful color photographs in this book. His art and teachings influenced many American 20th century painters, including the abstract expressionists. His teachings about artistic vision and method are presented in his notes on painting, included in this volume. (They are also published separately in "Hawthorne on Painting.") Most readers will benefit from their inclusion here as they offer an opportunity to judge his words and aesthetic principles against his paintings, rather than in a vacuum. In addition to illuminating essays by Richard Muhlberger, formerly of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Janet Flint, the text lists more than 50 museums that have Hawthorne's work in their collections. As many are small regional museums, this is a most valuable guide for further research, travel, and enjoyment of this unique master's work.

This is the BEST art book I ever saw! Vladimir Horik is a great artist and his paintings are truly amazing. The colors, the settings, the lighting in ALL the 90 or so paintings in this book make this a must for every art lover. At the same time, you will discover the absolutely fantastic Charlevoix region that this book is all about. I personally look at this book almost every day, discovering something new each time, just to treat my eyes to some of the most beautifull paintings I ever saw. Once again, HDI delivers a work of art in itself with this book, filled with treasures from Quebec's most beautifull region, Charlevoix. //// Ce livre est absolument fantastique! Brian Dippie, as always, spends years of research perfecting his product. His love of writing preparing his books is not compromised by deadlines. Being a professor of U.S. History at the University of Victoria demands authenticity and knowledge! Who would believe a Canadian? The answer lies definitely here. This author is one to be believed and enjoyed.

Years of travel and study liberally doused with a love of the language mirror Charlie Russells love of nature and art but Charlie struggled with language. Dippie translates, transcribes, and transforms for the reader. A DEFINITE BUY!

Jim Tweedy has hit another homer with his latest on Charlie the RedCat. The paintings and writings are hilarious, and the book is beautiful. If you have a cat, or any pet with a spicy and unique personality, you'll identify with Charlie and love this book. This guy obviously has a great sense of humor and a real gift for conveying it. As a teenager not many of my friends like children's books, but I have and always will have a profound affection for them. "Cherries and Cherry Pits" continues to be a favorite of mine- your minds eye can relish on the fresh, colorful drawings whilst you read of the simple pleasures derived from a yummy little fruit. This book always leaves me with a little dance in my step, an artistic itch in my fingers and a mouth watering for cherries

This colorful book uses a story of a Navajo weaver and her granddaughter to convey Navajo culture and history. The Chief is a northern Plains Indian, who trades with the Navajo, one often overlooked aspect of Native American history. Winner, Border Regional Library Association's 1998 Southwest Book Award.

This is an excellent set of books. I went ahead and got all of them. Basically this is a book fo postcards of famous paintings. You cut them out and use them to help teach your younger children about art and artists and styles of art. You do this through a series of continually more challenging games.
Well worth the money.
