I had Jane Welch Williams as an art history professor at the University of Arizona. She knew her subject so well, and loved to share her knowledge with others. History wasn't just something that happened long ago, it was something real. She passed away this Spring, she will be missed.

i was struggling with the medium of watercolor for the longest time, and had little or no direction on how to improve my technique. then one day my art teacher suggested i peruse this book, and wow, my perceptions of watercolor changed instantly. this is the best book on watercolor available. if you are interested at all in the full potential of the medium, you must take a look at this book- you will forever be changed.

Brice Marden has been considered a master of his craft for nearly three decades and his recent paintings are the most powerful yet. Abandoning the rigid rectangles of his previous work, Marden has embarked upon a looser, yet structural form. The surface and application are still meticulate, reminding one of the sensuality of the oil and beeswax mix of the 60's work. Using what seems to be Oriental calligraphy and free-form drawing as inspiration, these new works are at once arresting in their complexity and somber in their exquisite use of color. He has taken his extensive knowledge of color from the 'rectangle' years and applied them to this new series of intersecting and twisting lines. I find myself in awe of these paintings, having seen some them in New York two years ago and this catalog has faithful reproductions, an oversize format and a very fair price

This excellent encyclopedic work examines how artists at home & in the field dealt with the subject or war for more than 200 years, and how these images were perceived by the public in Britain. He traces the medium of the paintings and descibes how they were produced, covers the artists and the campaigns they covered and explains why some wars were illustrated more than others. He describes and lists the works of hundreds of war artists. a valuable reference work for any collector of prints. Appendice lists over 800 surviving oil battle paintings with details.

a great way to learn about the artist and his works. beautiful colorplates and explanations of the artists' works. a wonderful addition to my collection.

This book is a must for those of us who love Bruno Zupan's work. And there are bonuses in the book for us and for those who will learn about Bruno's work for the first time: The book is beautiful-a work of art in its own right, as are Jane Zupan's photography and her prose!

This book is excellent. Clearly Rimell and Rimell have an excellent background in paleontology, or know a thing or two. As one can tell from the cover picture, the models in this book are exceptional, and the authors do a superb job explaining modeling and sculpture techniques and basic dinosaur anatomy. I have attempted making models using the methods described and although I am not a natural artist, I was satisfied with the final product. Again, this book is excellent.

This book appears very readable and practical. I spent 2 hours reading the first third and felt my purchase was well worth it. Many quality color examples of scaled miniature soldiers from many historical eras, mostly pre WWI.

I thought that this was a great book! The images of Da Vinci's notebook are excellent. Although if you are looking for a translation of the pages this is not the book for you. This book only gives brief descriptions of what is written on the page - which is to bad because what they translate from his notebook only makes you want to read more of what Da Vinci wrote about. Overall I thought it was a great book for reference. I could not ask for more beautiful images.

I first bought this book in 1989, when my son was six. Since then, I've bought copies for his second and third grade teachers, for every friend turning seven or eight years old, and for our own library.

The story describes how a new recruit to heaven's division of cloud making decides to make life beautiful for NYC and for a special girl who actually looks into the sky.

The most interesting point is that the book features African-American characters, a point I did not even notice for the first four years I was buying and giving the book. (Maybe that says more about my powers of observation than anything else, but the drawings are stunning.
