Just Plain Beautiful
While all of Walter Anderson's works are wonderful, there's just something special about his Birds. These full-color pages are a stunning visual feast of all kinds of birds. The watercolors are amazing. Anyone interested in birds or art should see this collection and spend a long time slowly relishing it. If you're familiar with Anderson's works, it's a must-have. If you're not, it's a wonderful collection of some of his best work.

Another wonderful Little Rabbit Book
Once again Alan Baker has written a book with beautiful pictures that fit in with the text. The text is simple enough for young readers, yet still informative enough to be educational at the same time. All together this makes for a book which can be enjoyed by children, while teaching them in an unconfusing manner.

I wish there were more books like this!
A real treat & unfortunately rare. I wish there were more books that focused on biochemistry (& chemistry) in such a manner. I very much hope that this author produces more of this delightful style of scientific writing... inquiring minds really do want to know. I thank the author for writing this book--I enjoyed it immensely, & very much appreciate it having been written.

Terrific Art Book--a Treasure
Many people do not realize the value of George Rodrigue's "calendars." In the past few years, this publisher has added Blue Dogs for every week of the year. They are wonderful. Most of us can't afford the price of a Blue Dog print, so get the calendar for the prints! I noticed that the 2004 Calendar will be released this year with a new publisher. I hope the quality continues. If not,I still have this one to keep as an art collectible.

A very merry Blue Dog Christmas
Mr. Rodrigue has done it again. "A Blue Dog Christmas" is not only filled with wonderful pictures of his newest Blue Dogs, but it is also a heartwarming story that brought back some of my own childhood holiday memories. It is a fantastic book for adults as well as children, good for bedtime reading.

Bob Timberlake Paintings and Watercolors

BOB TIMBERLAKE PAINTING AND WATERCOLORS
This small book catalogs with 46 plates of the first Museum exhibition of original artwork by artist Bob Timberlake. The exhibition was held in Shreveport, Louisiana at the R.W. Norton Gallery in 1974.

This book captures many of the early works of Bob Timberlake, who began his career as a full time artist in 1970.

Along with each plate in the book are thoughts and reflections written by the artist. This added feature gives the reader a greater feel for the artist's purpose and nature of the paintings presented in the book.

This is wonderful book for those who enjoy Bob Timberlake artwork. The book acurately portrays Timberlake and his artwork during the early years of his art career.

Current but timeless
The main problem with a book such as this is that it can become outdated so quickly (if you have ever seen a used book from 20 or 30 years ago that was current and hip and modern to that time and horrible outdated now, you know what I mean). Sarah Lynch is concious of that potential problem and presents the material in such a fashion as to avoid being outdated, gives wonderful examples, explains colour principles, displays good photographs, and warns that there are rules for current fashion/interior decoration trends, but you can go ahead and break them if you want to, with guidance on what to watch for by the way of results. Also helpful is the last few chapters on how to correct mistakes if you don't like the results after all. If you have an inkling that you want to go bold but are hesitant, or looking for helpful direction, this is a good book.

Bonnard
Published in Hardcover by Harry N. Abrams (01 March, 1998)
Author: Sara Whitfield
Amazon base price: $60.00
Used price: $29.95
Collectible price: $37.06
It seems somehow revolutionary that a turquoise-blue painting graces the cover of Bonnard, the catalog accompanying a 1998 exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The color of the endpapers--deep yellow--tells readers that even the book designers know with which end of the color spectrum most viewers associate this sensuous painter. The translucent-looking, sun-struck, golden woman in the bathtub--the artist's wife and favorite model--is so emblazoned on our memories that it takes an exhibition like the one documented in this book to remind viewers of Bonnard's extraordinary range as a colorist.

The early, intimate, Nabi paintings are often dark, with figures that stand out like candle flames in shadowy interiors. But Bonnard's use of umber, sienna, and various blacks--occasionally in the shape of a dachshund--is forever part of what makes those brilliant reds and oranges sing. Even 60 years into his career, the painter gave full range to his palette, balancing the most highly colored canvasses with others of pale, soft grays. Those readers who have been succored on the 1984 Phillips Collection catalogue will find MoMA's new one every bit as nourishing.

BONNARD THE MASTER OF COLOR
Having missed the 1998 NEW YORK exibition because i live 400 milles from the city, i could catch up with that book that i found well done. PIERRE BONNARD is one of the artist i admire the most. For those of you unfamiliar with him, i suggest you buy ANTOINE TERRASSE's book. It's not to expensive and it is worth it.His works often have a dreamlike atmosphere to them ,and his wife MARTHE has been represented in the bathtub many times.Among BONNARD's friends were the NATHANSON:THADEE the editor of the REVUE BLANCHE and his beautiful WIFE MISIA, who was fond of artists;VUILLARD was his lifelong friend, and PIERRE had a long correspondance with HENRI MATISSE. When they met, they used to compare eachother's works.

GORGEOUS coffee table book with informative text
This book is GORGEOUS! It is a hardcover accordian-style book in a hardcover slipcase (VERY impressive and classy looking) with gorgeous watercolors on each page. The text describes each respective type of crane. It is beautifully written, helpful and informative for everyone who loves cranes (Asian symbol of longevity, and known to mate for life). I can't imagine anyone who enjoys beautiful things not loving this book. Because of the aforementioned symbolism, it would make a meaningful wedding gift, anniversary present, or birthday gift (especially for one getting on in years).
