"Becoming a Successful Artist" is my favorite art book - based on the careers of 20 or so artists - it delves into their past triumphs and disappointments along the way to fame and fortune. This isn't the type of book that one needs to read only once; I've read it atleast 20 times. Some of the stories really touch my heart - especially about Harley Brown. Others are encouraging, and a few gave me a sense for the business side of art.

Because the book presents a personal viewpoint for each artist, it covers just about everything that an artist can experience as he or she goes through the hoops of becoming an artist. The advice is excellent. Anyone who is considering turning to full time art for their livelyhood should read this book. It presents the reality of becoming an artist.

This book is great for the begginner in acrylic painting.

A Wonderful book. It does not have as much in depth discussions on techniques as in Allrich's book, however, it has a wide range of styles and exhibitions. It is so much fun to read it. This is the book displayes the beauty of oil painting to beginner's.

Behind the Painting remains one of Thailand's most cherished novels. On the surface it chronicles the romance and eventual heartbreak between a married woman visiting Japan and her young guide, an overseas Thai student. Beyond that however, it is also a portrait of the end of the Thai aristocracy at the heels of the new bourgouis class. Kiralee, the young wife of a retired aristocrat, accompanies her husband on a trip to Japan. There, they are met by an overseas Thai student who has been assigned as their guide throughout their visit. Love soon begins to blossom between the two, only to be stunted by the woman's return to Thailand. Heartbroken, the young student buries himself in his career only to discover that upon his own return to Thailand several years later, he has forgotten the woman he once loved. She, however, has never forgoteen him.

This little gem of a book features color reproductions of several paintings created by Emily Carr. Each image is paired with a bit of her writing, so that one has a sense of what she was thinking during or shortly after painting a particular landscape. This book is an ideal introduction to the art and prose of Emily Carr--not too long and not too short. It makes me want to see and hear more from this admirable Canadian woman.

Ruth Wood has specialised in Leader's life and work and has compiled a comprehensive illustrated catalogue raisonne of all his known works. She regularly authenticates Leaders works for the major fine art auction houses and private collectors. This is an excellent specialised read for the lovers of Victorian landscape painting.

This book presents the fundamentals of drawing in an easy-to-understand format that is informative to novice artists young and old!

The book's split presentation reads like 2 books in 1. The story line above relates the plot about a special art teacher coming to the bears' school and what he teaches them. The lower portion covers some art history, shows different types of drawing, explains different opinions about art, and even displays the authors, Stan & Jan. A third gem is the cartoon in the corner that "moves" when you flip the pages.

I was blown away by how much was packed into this small book - and my 3-year-old loved it too.

The photography was excellent, capturing enough of the surroundings that you can understand some of the works. It was also a thrill to see some of my work in print since my friend Mongo and I were the ones who painted "Late night with David Letterman" on the wall. I have a posterprint hanging on my wall as proof of our endeavers. The historical facts of the wall listed in the book were also excellent reading. I only with I could have been there when they tore it down!

I was just in Berkeley, CA and happed to see an exhibit of the original art which is the subject of this book at the GTU Library. The illustrations in the book are true to the original and the book provides the necessary context for a complete appreciate of this marvelous work.

This is a very enjoyable book. My daughter loved the surprise ending, and I liked the example of young girls with goals and dreams. A little taste of the woman's movement before there even was a woman's movement, too.
