Another great book!
I already have scott's first book, "Isaac", and just got his newest book, the Little Skyscraper yesterday. This book is wonderful! The illustrations are captivating and colorful, story line is simple, and easy to follow. Children once again will love this book, as well as the parents. You'll cheer when Jack comes back and saves his old friend, the skyscraper. This book is one to put under your tree this year, and in your collection.

Newer is not always better!
In an age where technology is moving us ever-faster into the future, as well as the uncertainty that has been brought with war, people are turning more and more to the security and comfort of the past, of things closer to home, of memories that bring joy and peace to their hearts. The Little Skyscraper does exactly that. It conjures up images of a simpler society, simpler life where it was routine to help others, where character, integrity and hardwork were still the keys to success. Where the old was not destroyed by the new -- but where the value of both was seen and combined to make a better world. The Little Skyscraper learned he didn't have to be tall and ultra-modern to make an impression -- that the greatest gift he had and could offer was just to be himself. The easy-to-read text and wonderful illustrations present this valuable lesson in a way that will bring readers back to this book again and again!

Outstanding Landscapes
A good friend turned me on to Leestemaker after attending an exhibition of his work. This book is my first introduction to Leestemaker, and I'm impressed and inspired. This book is just mesmerizing, full of color pictures of his work to lose yourself in. The richness of his colors and the simplicity of his landscapes are astounding. I highly recommended it for any art lover..

Art Lovers: An Absolute Coffee Table Must
Because I was lucky enough to discover this amazing artist several years ago (and have followed his career ever since) I had the very good fortune of viewing this latest collection of Leestemaker's work in book form "hot off the press."

For anyone who is aware of Leestemaker's artistic journey thus far, this book will serve as a nostalgic, eye-popping, visual dance through the formative years in the making of a world-class talent. For those uninitiated, "Paintings by Luc Leestemaker" is the perfect introduction to his most recent work and to a name you are sure to hear spoken in ever-greater frequency at the highest levels of the art world.

Best Book We Have Found on Painting the Horse
This is a biography of a woman who loved horses and who painted them with feeling and style. Not only has Lucy Kemp-Welch mastered the art of painting horses but she has mastered the art of landscape painting as well. Here is a book you can return to time after time and always see something new. It is an excellent reference for anyone wanting to paint horses or landscapes. Its many color reproductions are excellent quality.

It is the best book we have found on painting the horse.

the most amazing horse paintings ever
If you are a big fan of horse painters you MUST have this book! Not only does Kemp-Welsh paint on par with the masters of the day, but she also captures the very essence of the horses she paints. I have never seen horse paintings that equal these, and am shocked that she is not more widely know. Hopefully, this book will help solve that problem.

The Magic of Mess Painting

I was immediately captivated by the process.
A charming, clear guide. In less than a week, I have set up my work space, had my supplies shipped and completed my first painting session. To my surprise, from one session alone, I have gained a refreshed visual perception with a joyfully enhanced awareness of colors, shapes and patterns in everything that I see. Can't wait to see what comes next.

Very instructive and readable "how-to" book.
Mess painting, a component of the Creativity Mobilization Technique, was developed almost half a century ago by M.D. and authority on autogenic training, Wolfgang Luthe. A student of Luthe's, Virginia Barclay Goldstein has written an extremely clear and instructive how-to manual for prospective mess painters. Everything you need to know to get started painting is in this book, including a recommendation of where to get your paint. I am halfway through a 6-week mess painting class and have found it to have subtle yet profound effects. I routinely remember my dreams after a mess painting session and am enjoying a practice where no effort is required. If you enjoy colors, you will probably like mess painting. (An interest in flower (vs. vegetable) gardening is often an indicator that you will like mess painting.) While participating in a mess painting class is helpful and interesting, Goldstein's book is precise enough in its instructions that you could easily paint on your own and experience many of the beneficial effects of mess painting. For more information on autogenic therapy, see the British Autogenic Society web site.

A wonderful book
This is a great book to introduce children to the paintings of Henri Matisse. Best of all the rhyming text captures a childs attention and helps with language development. As an art teacher and a soon to be mother, this book is on the top of my list.

cute -- it works!
Of course, you want to do these stretches in privacy and not by the copier or in the elevator depicts! But it is good to know what to do to get rid of that "hunched-over" look and feeling so many of us start to take on about midday. And you need a calendar anyway (particularly if you are not a Palm-pilot type, like me) so why not one that helps you take care of your mental and physical health?

A truly amazing book about a truly amazing artist
The beautiful reproductions of Mark Stock's paintings enticed me to keep reading this interesting book about a gifted man and his work. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in art and the artist of the 21st century. Mark Stock is the modern Renaissance man.

Highly recommended addition to art studies collections.
Mark Stock has designed several critically acclaimed sets for the Los Angeles Chamber Ballet and other Los Angeles-based dance troupes. He has authored the screenplay for the 1993 film Fleshtone (based loosely on his life and painting motifs). He spends most of his evenings drumming for a professional jazz trio at the Cypress Club in San Francisco. With the publication of Mark Stock: Paintings, he will now be recognized as a superbly talented and imaginative painter whose artwork is as memorable as it is engaging. The majority of the 112 oil paintings featured focus on the tribulations of romantic passion and ranging from sympathetic to ironic. Barnaby Conrad's lucid text, sprinkled throughout with black and white photography, uniquely showcases and introduces Mark's artwork. An informative essay by Mark Huge Miller deftly examines the connection between much of Mark's work and the seductions and betrayals that were so characteristic of the film noire genre. Mark Stock: Paintings is a highly recommended addition to any personal or public library 20th century artbook collection.

What a Wonderful Book for Children
Mary Cassatt was a true master when painting mothers and their children. Mike Venezia's book captures her life and work beautifully. This series on artists is so educational, I have bought the entire series for my brother's children. I first saw them in the gift shop of the Virginia Museum and have enjoyed them ever since.

Cassatt's paint'g leaves the young with a warm tummy feeling
"... she seemed to understand the love between mothers and their babies better than any other artist", p. 26.

The young reader will learn about Cassatt's early years in Pennsylvania, her family moving to France for two years when she was 7, her years at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and her moving to France at the age of 22 to learn more about art.

Cassatt's paintings have a current day presence to them. Regardless of how far we as a society progress, most children will be lovingly cared for by their parents. She captured the mothers and fathers in a relaxed state with their children going about their every day activities. Children will readily relate to the paintings given their own very recent experiences. The young are very sensitive to feelings. The warmth expressed in the paintings will easily be absorbed by their delicate nature. They will come away from the book with a warm tummy feeling.

My favorite painting in the book is Cassatt's "Little Girl in a Blue Armchair," painted in 1878. It remains contemporary. It could be any one of my nieces or even myself. When I was young, my mother used to make me dress up for family functions to which I agreed if I could bring my play clothes with me. This picture reminds me of what I must have looked like until I could change into my play clothes.

Venezia's illustrations are humorous. His narrative is delightfully entertaining. His approach brings the artist within reach of the young. His re-enactment of why Mary joined the impressionist group pokes fun at the upheaval they caused.

The size of the book is perfect for smaller hands. It enables the young to have art within their grasp. Venezia gives the locations of the paintings and as result if the child lives near one of the museums or will be near one on vacation, she/he would be able to see the original.

This is the 6th in Venezia's "Getting to know the World's Greatest Artist" series. He also has a similar series on composers. Venezia's back cover illustration ties back to the subject. "Working on Mary Cassatt inspired Mike to paint his own family's portraits, capturing ...".

The price of the book is well worth paying. The book contains the following: Cassatt's paintings (17) and print (1), Venezia's illustrations - 7, Others' paintings - 4.

A must have....
What a wonderful book.
Better than a class.
Not a step by step kind of book, but one to give you good solid art
methods so you can explore in your own style.
It opened my mind.
I haven't been this excited about my work in ages.
Thank you Edward Betts for sharing your wisdom.

Master Class in watermedia
This book is an inspiration for any artists interested in mixed media and developing their skills towards non-representational painting. It is very well written and aimed at the more advanced painters in water media. Edward Betts uses his own paintings for illustrating and inspiration. This is one book that is a must for your studio bookshelf - borrowing it from the library for a quick read will not satisfy the need to return again and again to its inspirational pages.
