An Indepensible reference work
I am a Reference Archivist working in Genealogy for a State Archives. This book has provided help for many of my frustrated patrons who are looking for naturalization records of their ancestors. This book is very easy to use. The names are in alphabetical order. Each name has a corresponding numerical key which links it directly to the source it is cited in. I have never had a problem of not being able to find a name. More often than not Patrons have later told me that the books indexed in the Passenger and immigration lists have provided more information than the naturalization records themselves. But Buyer BEWARE! This is ONLY an INDEX it does not have the complete records. It only tells you where the name is located so further research is necessary in order to find the book and this could entail further travel and time. To Diehard "genies" however, this book is a definent lifesaver and should be in every genealogical, historical, reference, and archival library.

The Quintessential IH Reference
This series of books is the ultimate reference for industrial hygienists. While the sheer size of Patty's is daunting, it should be on every IH's bookshelf. If you need to know anything about the toxicology of a chemical or other workplace health hazards, chances are it's in Patty's.

Translated and annotated for contemporary readers
Translated and annotated for contemporary readers by John M. Forrester, The Physiologia Of Jean Fernel (1567) pre-sents a classic work from the history of medicine in both its original Latin and a full English translation. An notedly important, groundbreaking study, The Physiologia Of Jean Fernel (1567) deserves to be recognized for its historical value, and also as an invaulable text which students of Latin can utilize for the purpose of practicing their skill.

Finally, a reference book for variationists!
Overall, an excellent book. It outlines much of the work that's been done in variationism over the past 30 years, and provides a good index to help you find what you need. This volume deals specifically with "internal factors"--that is, social factors like sex, age, and social class. Vols. 2 & 3 are to deal with other factors that have an effect on linguistic variation. Assuming the next volumes live up to the standard of vol. 1, once they've all come out it will have been a well spent hundred or so dollars on my part.

Herzen's struggle brought to life
Tom Stoppard is arguably the single finest playwright of his generation, and the Coast of Utopia trilogy is a massive undertaking that in the hands of a less skilled author could have gone awry and badly. Stoppard though manages to make what could be a painfully pedantic history lesson into a moving portrayal of love, ideology, loss, and change.

The mess of Alexander Herzen's life, and those of his closest friends and family, is tragic in a really monumental scope. There are no clear places to lay blame, nor clear winners or losers, instead the entire piece is pervaded with a sense of futility (and I don't mean this negatively), Herzen trying vainly to convince his associates that the blood being spilled is of no use, and trying to mend the broken relationships surrounding him.

The history is neither dominate or secondary to the characterization here, rather Stoppard manages to make the historical events we know (or may not know) part and parcel of the volatile and fascinating lives of some of Russias greatest citizens.

Samuel and the Deuteronomist: 1 Samuel (A Literary Study of the Deuteronomic History, Pt. 2)

A fresh perspective with a nod to those who have gone before
Polzin's work is brilliant, but intended primarily for serious scholars who have a good knowledge of the text. His analysis of the language of the text as well as exploring the multiple possible meanings of the original Hebrew are only part of what makes this an important text.

Polzin's literary analysis is also a tremendous addition to the field. In many areas where the text has been generally thought of as contradictory, he finds plausible interpretations that create continuity and add to the meaning of the text. Further, his understanding of the redactors possible intent greatly enhances the readers understanding of the primary text.

Finally, the theological implications of his commentary deserve consideration. Polzin brings the characters of Samuel and Saul, two of the Bibles most interesting personalities, fully to life. His exploration of their flaws and failures as well as their successes makes his interpretations that much more meaningful.

While not always easy, the text is a must addition for any serious or aspiring scholar of these texts. If you are a beginner, begin with a good translation and easier linear commentary like Alter or Fox. If you want to go deeper, I urge you to purchase this important text.

Sensors & Transducers (Pt-68).
This book gathers the most useful information every electronic engineer needs to design almost everything, it can be used either as a handbook or reference's guide. I encourage my partners to read this book in order to get the best idea in how to start a design.

Lives cut tragically short, and painful losses all around
Tom Stoppard is arguably the single finest playwright of his generation, and the Coast of Utopia trilogy is a massive undertaking that in the hands of a less skilled author could have gone awry and badly. Stoppard though manages to make what could be a painfully pedantic history lesson into a moving portrayal of love, ideology, loss, and change.

Shipwreck is decidedly the most tragic of the three, the loss of innocence and the tragically young deaths of several characters are heart breaking, as is the way Stoppard deals the blow to the reader or audience. Vissarion Belinsky in particular lends a spark to the entire piece, and his desperation at finding the answer he has spent his life searching for is one of the most heart wrenching things I have ever read.

The history is neither dominate or secondary to the characterization here, rather Stoppard manages to make the historical events we know (or may not know) part and parcel of the volatile and fascinating lives of some of Russias greatest citizens.
