A must have for All My Children viewers
This is an excellent book for anyone who loves All My Children. I bought mine used and it was in excellent condition. As a long time All My Children viewer (from the beginning) this was a trip down memory lane for me. It covered all the years from 1970 to 1995. The color pictures were beautiful and the trivia section in the back was wonderful. This is a must have book for all serious and long time viewers of All My Children.

A must for AMC fans!
Have you ever had a question about AMC? What actor played what role or who married who? You will find answers to your questions in this big AMC book. What I loved about this book is that it has a thorough plot summary of every year since it's debut in 1970. The book includes family photos, wedding photos, behind the scenes info, AMC trivia, actor quotes, interesting facts, a complete cast list and much more. This is a wonderful coffee table book!

This PVU Grad Loves This Book!!!!!
This is the GREATEST AMC Book ever written.Very informative and entertaining, and filled with memories that I have cherished and will now be able to cherish forever!!!As a 20+year fan of the show, I can only say I can't wait for the 50th anniversary scrapbook!

Great book to own
I purchased this book when it was first published over a dozen years ago and still refer to it several times a week. Not only is it comprehensive but Tim Brooks often gives short biographies of the stars, listing other shows and related areas for which a particular actor or actress might have been known. I'm sorry that it is currently out of print because I would like to have an updated version of the book.

Excellent reverence encuclopedia!
This review refers to the original volume that I have sitting by my TV. In these days with cable and satellite available many vintage TV shows are aired all of the time. A quick thumb through the book not only gives excellent overall view of the show but the cross reference of stars and other shows is suburb.

Very valuable resourse book
I have used this book since I "found" a copy on book stand in NYC back in the 80s. Worth the purchase price.I use it all the time. The 1992 version should be better.

An Amazing Book
This is one of the most wonderful books ever written. James Allen explains in his "easy to read" way, how we are the ones responsible for the present state of our own lives (not someone else or some circumstance in our life). As he says, "Circumstance does not make the man; it reveals him to himself". That's why two different people can see the same event and view it in a totally different way. He also stresses that fighting the outer circumstance or "effect", will not help, since the real "cause" is in our hearts. He makes it very clear that if we wish to change the world, we will have to start with ourselves. And a big part of the work, will be to realize that we aren't usually even aware of our thoughts (which means we don't know what we're asking for). If you truly want to change your life, for the better - this book is a good place to start. James Allen wrote several other books, that are sometimes difficult to find, but well worth looking for. "Out From the Heart" is one of my favorites, as it gives "more basic" instuctions for those of us who have a lot to learn about ourselves. If you like James Allen's books you may also like books written by Vernon Howard, Guy Finley, Maurice Nicoll (who studied with P.D. Ouspensky and G.I. Gurdjieff), and J. Krishnamurti.

good book can never produce bad result!
This book is one of its kind, and one of the best! EVen Anthony Robbins takes quotes from this book and recommends it to his listeners. It's amazing, such a tiny little book, yet it contains the most important believe that each of us must have in order to succeed. "Success is caused by successful thoughts!" Bad thoughts can never produce right results. I have already seen how this works in my life. Years ago I was sick with negative self sabotage and thinking. Then I came upon some books especially Harold SHerman's "TNT-The Power Within You", Joseph Murphy's "The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind", etc and this one. Read this one and you'll be convinced why you can't wish things to go right when your thinking is wrong. Like the ignorant saying "Hoping for the best but expecting the worst".... break out of that my friend. Stop poisoning your mind... learn why and how with this book! You'll soon see that this world is but a mirror, reflecting to you what you think and do.

What do you see in your future?
The greatest invention of all time - started in someone's brain. The visionary.

What is amazing is that we are all visionaries. However because a negative visionary is not called a visionary, we don't perceive ourselves to be visionaries. This book shows you that you too are a visionary. You do create your own future. That said, what type of future do you want in your life?

In the late '50s and early '60s, the most subversive show ever to hit the airwaves enchanted millions of American grade-schoolers. The kiddies tuned in to watch Bullwinkle J. Moose and Rocket J. Squirrel of Frostbite Falls, Minnesota, indulge in cartoon acrobatics and rattle off a series of unbelievable puns. This encyclopedic volume details their every adventure, from chasing the wailing whale Maybe Dick to joining the football team at Wossamotta U. The sinister Pottsylvanian spies Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale sneak into a goodly share of the pages, along with Dudley Do-Right, the square-jawed Mountie; Snidely Whiplash, the luxuriantly mustachioed villain; Mr. Peabody, the beagle who knows everything; and his boy Sherman. It's a loving, cleverly-illustrated tribute to these saviors of the free world and an admiring paean to the twisted, hilarious genius of Jay Ward, their modest creator, who set the standard for TV animation for generations to come.

a bit of good nostalgia
Yes it's me again.

I have received my copy of the Rocky and Bullwinkle book and I have loadsa words to describe it: FABULOUS, MARVELLOUS, MAGNIFIQUE, WONDERFUL, FUNNY, WITTY and all that.

The creators of our favourite cartoon heroes and villains obviously had a great time making the series, were well respected by young and old alike. The talent was outstanding. I particularly liked the comments of Matt Groening, (he of Simpsoms fame) and the respect that was well earned over the years.

Louis Chunovic certainly did his homework well in producing this gem of a book. I thought it was a great tribute to Jay and all the crew who made these characters possible, and I wish the British were more aware of them.

Rocky, Bullwinkle, Mr Peabody, Dudley, Aesop & son, Sherman, Cloyd and Gidney, as well as those no-goodniks Boris, Natasha and Fearless Leader (or Mr Big, as he's often known as) have gone down in the cartoon hall of fame along with Mickey Mouse, Tom and Jerry, and the Warner Bros characters.

I say to you brothers and sisters, if you don't know of the moose and squirrel then where've you been the last 40 years?

Cartoon lovers, little and big kids should rush themselves this book and WALLOW!!!!

A great read and great fun!!! GO BUY! NOW!!!

Bye bye for now.

Poor translation
I think this book suffers mostly through translation because I've seen the Russian film versions any number of times, and found "The Twelve Chairs" to be utterly hilarious. However, the humor seems lost in the Northwest translation. I think of Mark Twain who lamented that "awful German language" for so badly maligning his "Celebrated Jumping Frog."

I think the Northwestern Univ. Press translations in general are weak. Imre Kertesz has recently taken them to task for the translations of two of his works. It seems that Northwestern's heart is in the right place, trying to capture some of the lesser known works in world literature, but that their selection of translations is rather shoddy.

An essential source for understanding Russian culture
I've read the novel together with its sequel, The Golden Calf, in Russian about a dozen times. Now I simply have to get an English copy to share it with my non-Russian speaking friends! It is true: the speech of an average Russian contains quite a few quotations from the novel (also due to a number of film versions). Twelve Chairs is something definitely worth having in your home library: you can open it at any time and start reading on any page. In minutes, you're guaranteed, if not to laugh, then to smile.

Not re:this translation.
I never read this in English,so I'm not going to comment on the quality of the Northwestern U. translation, but I did read it in Russian. First off, everyone needs to read this book in order to understand Russians better. I re-read it many times in my teenage years simply because if you live in Russia(or any other Eastern European country for that matter),you will be able to understand those countless quotes taken from this masterpiece and incorporated into everyday language. The characters are hysterical in the least, and the story so seemingly simple contains much bigger messages than available to the naked eye. Please, read this book, and if you understand the humour and sadness of it,you'll be well on your way to understanding not just Russian culture but humans in general.

For The Fans
This is just a fun trivia book for fans of ALL MY CHILDREN. It has a lot of facts, some you might know, some you might not. A lot of quizzes, even one for the famous Erica Kane! While its not as comprehensive as the 1994 ALL MY CHILDREN coffee table book, it still has loads of facts and fun for trivia and AMC fans alike. It's pretty cheap too so its worth it if you want to know more about AMC or just enjoy trivia books.

The Official All My Children Trivia Book

Death of a Princess
The original French version is wonderful, hope the English translation is a good.

I liked it.
Itwas a great book and her life was a drama. Anyone interested in late-Ottoman history should read it.

Amazing...
This is a beatiful book. I have just finished it but want to read it again. This is a kind of story that captures you and even when you finish to read it it won't let you go. I keep visualizing the moment when Selma was playing with her daugther just before she died. Do you know what strikes you most, story is true. You just don't want to accept how a life can be so short, so colorful, and so sad at the same time. I still feel the sadness in my heart. I really want to visit her modest grave one day and leave a bouquet of wild flowers on it. Thank you Kenize Mourad.

Guide to Econometrics
Published in Textbook Binding by MIT Press (November, 1979)
Author: E Mit Pr
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

Mandatory Reading for Economists
Kennedy's Guide to Econometrics explains econometrics more clearly than any other book I have read. This book will not make you into an econometrician. But, this is definitely the place to start your education on empirical methods in economics.

For a book of this size, he covers a lot of territory. He covers the CLR model and hypothesis testing well, and discusses a few other things too. This guide is hardly encyclopedic. However, it covers the things economists need to know most.

Kennedy does more than just explain econometrics. He spells out the limits of econometric analysis. Texts often pay little attention to the 'con in econometrics'. Not Kennedy. He discusses the limitations and defects in standard techniques, as well as their advantages.

The only thing wrong with this book is that it does not carry the reader along far enough. After reading this book, most reader's will likely move on to a standard (i.e. badly written) econometrics textbook. In contrast, this book is written so well that it almost makes learning econometrics fun!

well written classic on econometrics
This is the fourth edition of a very popular text for an introductory graduate level course in econometrics. Although designed for econometricians and economics majors, the book has a lot to offer the statistician (time series analyst). There is good coverage of both the classical econometric models and the classical ARIMA time series models. The difference, as Kennedy points out, is that most univariate statistical time series models use only the past history to model and forecast the future while the econometric models emphasize the inclusion of economic predictor variables and not the past history.

However, in recent years, and partly because in fair-fight forecasting competitions the Box-Jenkins time series methods have done better than the econometric models, the econometricians are beginning to incorporate the Box-Jenkins approach in their models. As Kennedy points out,the new theory of multivariate ARIMA models is providing the econometricians with a methodology that is similar to their simultaneous equation models.

One nice feature of the book is that it treats classical linear regression theory early, highlights the key assumptions and then provides specific chapters that cover how to deal with the violations of the assumptions taken one by one.

The book is clear, up-to-date and has an excellent bibliography. It introduces the structural econometric time series approach along with multivariate Box-Jenkins methodolgy. Advanced topics such as dealing with roots on the unit circle in Box-Jenkins models and cointegration are covered. Also robust estimation procedures are discussed. It even introduces bootstrap methodology and the Bayesian approach to inference.

There is some coverage and some warnings about neural networks. Models for count data, duration, linear structural equations and instrumental variables are all presented in an introductory way.

Emphasis is placed early on the concept of sampling distributions for estimators. A clear understanding of sampling distributions is essential to understanding classical frequentist statistical approaches. Much confusion can arise when these concepts are glossed over.

Non-Optional Reading for ANYONE involved in econometrics.
If you are taking a course in econometrics, graduate or undergraduate, there is no good excuse for failing to purchase this book. Kennedy has a tremendous gift for giving readers a vision for the "Forest" of econometrics, which is very handy for those readers trapped in the "trees" of Pindyck & Rubinfeld and William Greene's texts (both of which are excellent, but relatively technical).

Kennedy covers an amazingly broad selection of topics in his books. While those having difficulty understanding the field will definitely get a great deal out of the book, don't think for a second that the book is overly simplistic -- an econometrics primer. No, this is not a mere review of OLS for the Gauss-Markov impaired. Kennedy's text covers Bayesian Analysis, Vector Error-Correction Models, and even touches, albeit lightly for my tastes, on such subjects as Kalman filtering and recursive least squares. Kennedy's notes are also very insightful and bring up many issues that dominant textbooks skirt around.

Penelope: The Story of the Half-Scalped Woman: A Narrative Poem (Contemporary Poetry Series (Univ Pr of Florida))

Penelope, The Story of the Half-Scalped Woman
An excellent rendering in poetic form of a remarkable true story of survival. Penelope arrived on the shores of America in the 1640's to face an immediate, devastating loss of her husband due to a brutual attack by Indians. Left half-scalped and severely injured on the beach of Sandy Hook, New Jersey, Penelope somehow survives the attack, and after seven days is rescued by Indians and nursed back to health. I personally owe deep gratitude to Machk, the Lenape Indian who used his Native remedies and skills to heal Penelope, and to Penelope herself, for the inner-strength she obviously displayed to get through such a trying time in her life. If she had not survived, I would not be here. Penelope Stout is my 9th great grandmother. I am proud to have her as my ancestor, a discovery I only recently made. The strong bond that developed between Machk and Penelope reaches down through many generations, and as a result, touches many of us who are descendants of this notable woman and her second husband, Richard Stout. The author, Penelope Scambly Schott has presented a poetic story of historical events, including the moving relationship of this one immigrant woman and one Native American man.

THE STORY OF THE HALF-SCALPED WOMAN:
THE STORY WAS GREAT . ITS AMAZING SHE LIVED THRU ALL OF THAT . THE INDIAN THAT SAVED HER I UNDERSTAND USE TO COME VISIT HER . I'VE READ PLENTLY OF STORIES ON THIS WOMAN BUT , THIS ONE I THINK STANDS OUT THE MOST . I AM A DESCENDANT OF HER'S . SO IT HAS COME IN MOST HELPFULL WHILE I'M TRYING TO FIND INFORMATION ON THIS PART OF MY FAMILY. THANK YOU JENA WILSON

"Penelope, The Story of the Half-Scalped Woman"
"Penelope, The Story of the Half-Scalped Woman" invokes 3 Penelopes. Penelope Schott, its author. Penelope of "The Odyssey", Ulysses' long abandoned and faithful wife, and the Penelope of this true story, an early American settler. Like The Odyssey's Penelope, her tale is told in poetry. Newlywed Penelope arrives from Holland, on the shores of New Jersey in 1640. Her husband is too ill to go further so they are left by their companions. Almost immediately they are set upon by Lenape Indians who kill her husband and leave Penelope half scalped and half dead. She is found by other Indians of the same tribe, where she has found shelter in a hollow tree. Healed and cared for by them, Penelope makes her life among them until she is "rescued" by white settlers with whom she can no longer fit in. Researched carefully from documents and family history, Penelope Stout's tale is one of bravery, both alone and in numbers. Written beautifully, it's a tale thrice told: about Ulysses' Penelope, Penelope Stout, and the story's author Penelope Schott, women whose awareness of life is the same despite the centuries.
