A first person account
Outstamding in White is indeed outstanding in every sense fo the word. It is an account of the events leading up to and immediately following the independence of the Congo, later Zair from Belgium in 1960. It is a story of the life of Doris Parker, the author, who was a nursing nun in the area during that time. It gives insights into the colonial policies of the Belgians and the attitude of the Congolese toward white people as a result. It gives us many views of the efforts of nuns and clergy to humanizze treatment of the local population as well as a unique picture of the cultures of both the Congolese and their colonial masters. I would higlhly reccomend this book.

A must have for Begginers to Professional Saxophonists alike
I have been using this book for some time now, and it has helped me time and time again. In a junior highschool jazz band this book is ver helpful. It has some of the most peragotive tenor sax solos i have ever seen. And if your ever in a jam where u need a solo right away and just cant think of one, this book is a life saver. The cd that comes with it is also very helpful. If u dont know the rythm or not a good sight reader the cd will get you one your way. Just play the cd and Play along. In about an hour to a solo, you are set for a surprise performance. A definite must have for all.

Awesome Jazz Solos for Kids who Loooove Jazz
When I got this book, I was expecting to trash it in the first month after using it, like I do with a lot of my saxophone books that become a bore. However, that was not what happened. When I started playing these totally cool solos I just couldn't stop. I mean, they were actually really fun to play. Several months have passed, but I still havent dumped out this book that really made my day when I first bought it. All my friends love this book too(they play the sax like I do), and its becoming quite popular with all of us. Yep... This is a really, really great book. I recommend it to all the other kids that don't have anything good to play.

Outstanding Oregon Recipes
Outstanding Oregon Recipes features recipes which use foods from the fields, waters, orchards, and fertile valleys of Oregon. One of the most topographically diverse states, its bounty of produce is equally diverse.

Snow-capped mountains, deserts, fertile valleys, waterfalls, canyons, volcanoes, and rivers make up Oregon's spectacular beauty. More than just a feast for the eyes, the wines are world class, seafood is abundant, Oregon fruits are famous, and the dairy products are delectable. Some of the specialties featured in Outstanding Oregon Recipes are: hazelnuts, blueberries, apples, raspberries, pears, cranberries, peaches, cheeses, poultry, beef, lamb, fish, seafood, mushrooms, and more-consider "Sage Grilled Halibut with Nectarine Sauce," "Mushroom Vegetable Egg Delight," "Cheddar Apple Dandy." The full-color cover features a picture of Mount Hood by Ray Atkeson. Line art by Diane Heusinkveld is throughout the book. Famous sites and attractions of Oregon are highlighted in a 12-page section.

Daniela Sipkova Mahoney, the compiler, was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. She now lives in Portland with her husband, Patrick Mahoney, and two children. Her hobby of Ukrainian egg decorating and her interest in folk crafts has developed into a business presenting workshops around the state and throughout the U.S. She has worked as a tour guide and especially promotes the scenic, artistic, and culinary beauty of Oregon.

Outstanding Oregon Recipes is one of a series of regional and state titles in the "Stocking Stuffer" format published by Penfield Press.

A rich gallery of scrapbook pages from 96 to 03
Memory Makers magazine has been on newsstands since 1996 - the early days of the scrapbooking explosion into mainstream American culture. From that time the founder and editorial staff have witnessed not only the growth of this popular craft, but the births of all the trends and styles that followed. This book, Outstanding Scrapbook Pages, is a summary of their most distinctive and significant reader-submitted pages that have been featured in the magazine until early 2003.

According to the Introduction, the 250 page selections were difficult to choose. The staff had to review "every page of every issue" since the beginning before voting on favorites. The criteria for being included were: How influential was that page on later scrapbooking trends? Were the techniques extraordinary, the photos exceptional, or perhaps the journaling memorable? Was there something unique in the design/idea that made it stand out? Based on what I have seen here, every page in this book answers yes to at least one of those questions.

I happen to have collected several of the other books published by Memory Makers, all of which showcase page examples of the techniques being discussed. I wasn't terribly surprised to recognize many of the same pages here that were used previously in their other books; makes sense to me, because after all, the most outstanding examples of techniques for their teaching books would probably be influential, memorable, and/or extraordinary in general. Still, this book was a wee bit redundant for me. On the other hand, readers who are new to scrapbooking will appreciate the quick retrospective on the craft, which helps them catch up to modern trends in one read. Longtime readers of the magazine may cherish this nice collection of favorites, especially if it means that they can finally donate a few shelf-fulls of back issues to the local library in exchange for one slim volume that chronicles the cream of the crop. And based on the general excellence of this gallery of scrapbooking art, I can heartily recommend it to anybody looking for page ideas.
