A Sleeper with Style
My older sister turned me onto this book - and she was right, as older sisters often are. It is a real gem. She discovered it when she was Downunder on holiday last month and brought it back with her. The author is an Australian journalist who writes insightful and human stories. Half the book features Australian writers, half features American, English and Canadian authors. Each chapter takes a different approach and you end it wanting more. I liked the humor, I liked the sharp observations, I liked the way he made me feel as if I had met the subjects. I just wish American journalists wrote like this - read it, you will enjoy the experience.

Mr Lunch dishes up a literary feast
It's fascinating when writers are put in the spotlight - some flourish and some flounder. This collection became compulsive bedside reading for me - it's not heavy on literary theory but it sure revealed the people behind the author's cloak in a personal, perceptive and frequently funny way. I really got the feeling that I was meeting the people interviewed - warts and all. Yet it was done so as to leave dignity intact. Vanities, secrets and courage were all revealed. It made me want to rush out and buy many of the subjects' books. I guess the best comment is that I was sorry to finish. I also liked the way the authors were such an international range - and I recommend the chapters on Antonella Gambotto, Kinky Friedman, Morris West and Brian Keenan in particular. More please.

Redeeming
As someone who has had mixed feelings about the death pentalty, this book opened my eyes and my mind. It accounts truly amazing, stories of personal strength and forgiveness that are beyond comprehension to those of us who haven't been in their shoes, but should consider the possibility. I was enlighted that there are after all, human beings that are capable of reaching such an extraordinary level of compassion in the wake of such personal tragedy.

A provocative engaging novel
As someone who does applied research
science and engineering, I didn't think
that the death penalty would have much interest
to me. However, I couldn't put this book
down once I started. I finished it after
a ~5 hour reading marathon.

King's book touches on another world that I have
little contact with. I was a bit overwhelmed with
the frank discussion of the violent murders followed
by the saintly behavior of some of the families,
including Gus & Audrey Lamm, Linda & Ami White,
and Azim Khamisa. The healing aspect of forgiveness
has an important message for our personal lives
as well as the debate at the national political
and foreign policy levels.

Best Real Life Book I've Read In Years!
This really helps getting through the "pitfalls" in my own life. Wish I had this kind of book available to me years ago ... it would have turned my life around for the better for all concerned in my family and church relations.

Survive In Spite of It
If you let the author's life experiences flow into your spirit, they can give you a clear insight into how to survive in spite of all the tragedies that happen (or might happen) in your lifetime. This book gave me examples of real life and maybe a pathway through which to navigate and 'keep-on-trucking' to resolve my own inner issues of staying alive for as long as God has planned for me. It opened my eyes to see that I'm not the only one with a bunch of baggage that needs to be lost at the airport.

Even through all the 'problems' living gives us, there are the fun things it life too. The title made me wonder what the book would be about ... now there's music in my life that was never there before; breath and "Don't Let the Song Go Out Of Your Life" has changed my thinking about now and how to live my future. The author helped me examine circumstances I didn't realize were issues and now make sense. Keep an open mind and let the spirit flow when you read this book. You'll be surprised how just 'looking' through the eyes of another human's experiences can change your life.

Somewhere Out There
This was one of the best books I've read! If you like the supernatural then you'll love this book, just be sure to read 'From A Distance' first, it's not as good but it will explaine alot about Patrick.

The Man Who Fell To Earth
Was he a man, a mirage, or a miracle? The man who fell to earth. Like a scorching mirage, the stranger materialized from the sandswept Australian Dry-as naked and nameless as a newborn babe. But even without his memory, he was every inch a man...A man whose missing past-and eerily hypnotic presence-might prove menacing to frontierswoman Mackenzie Conroy.

Still, like a drop of water in a sensual desert, his mesmerizing masculinity made Mackenzie thrist for a deeper draught at the wellspring of experience. But if she lay her body down in the illusive oasis of his arms, would she sip from the infinity, make memories to last a millenium? Or would a cascade of miraculous passion evaporate into parched oblivion?

All Mackenzie knew was that the rains were coming...and time was running out.

Colorful romp through a dog's inner life
This entertaining story is a delight for kids, adults, or anyone who is compelled to live with and (despite themselves) love a dalmatian. Sparsely worded and heavy on illustration, Dylan's Day Out -- appropriately -- leaves much to the imagination. The title dog's color scheme carries over into the book's other inhabitants -- penguins, skunks, nuns, dominos, soccer balls, and other checkered items abound. The clever interplay between color and black-and-white engages children's imaginations and adds an extra level of entertainment and interaction for readers. My son's long outgrown it, but I still love looking at this book.

creatively thought-provoking---for young children
The author's sparse use of words and cleverly thought-out illustrations allow children (and their parents) to become creative storytellers!

The e-Auction Insider: How to Get the Most Out of Your Online Experience

While it doesn't share any real inside information about Internet auction sites, such as might be gleaned from the leader of such a site, The e-Auction Insider has a lot to say about buying and selling online. Authors Dave Taylor and Susan M. Cooney (Taylor runs iTrack.com, the auction-monitoring site) give advice on getting the best price for an item that you're selling and dealing with shark-like, last-second bidders--also known as snipers--when you're buying. They also detail how to contact the other parties in your transactions and the proper use of escrow services. Although a sizable section is devoted to each of the main general-interest auction sites--eBay, Amazon.com, and Yahoo! Auctions--the emphasis falls solidly on eBay. Readers might wish for more coverage of variants on the auction theme, such as Priceline.com.

The book concludes with a directory of general- and special-interest auction sites that includes everything from Robynsegg.com (stickers, rubber stamps, and other scrapbook goods) to RockAuction.com (guitars, amplifiers, lighting equipment, and so on). It describes each site--with more substance than you usually find in directories of sites--and reports on registration rules, as well as any fees that apply to buyers or sellers. Some of what this book contains is common sense, but a lot of it will prove new and worthwhile to many readers. --David Wall

Topics covered: Buying and selling, safely and profitably, on Internet auction sites. How to list items; search for auctions; bid; monitor bid competitions; use escrow services to reduce your chance of being defrauded; and the specifics of auctions on eBay, Amazon.com, and Yahoo! Auctions.

Best e-auction book out there!
Marvelous book - well written and takes all the fear out of going online to buy and sell at various e-auctions. Great book for beginners - it takes you through an auction step by step. For experienced folks it has great hints to increase your chances at winning auctions, plus a very good section on how to write descriptions of sale items to install confidence in buyers and get bids. Recommend this book to all Ebayers and other internet auction-goers.

Answers to my online auction buying and selling questions
This book not only tells how ebay functions, it also describes and rates a number of other auctions sites I didn't know existed. It explains all about buying and selling. Definitely a necessity for anyone thinking of selling on the net which seems more difficult to me than buying online. The book also has useful 'insider tips' boxed on the pages for added help. It also has figures showing how the actual online pages appear for various auction functions. If there is a comparable book available, I'm not aware of it. Well organized and most useful.

A great pre-teen short novel.
A friend showed me this book, I read it and bought it for my grand-daughter. It is full of bright, lively dialog and moves right along. While spending a season on the school softball team the girls encounter a few hardball lessions about growing up, getting along with each other and developing their emotional maturity. I recommend Easy Out highly.

The Emperor's Angry Guest: A World War II Prisoner of the Japanese Speaks Out

The Emperor's Angry Guest
The range of emotion you feel as a reader has its highs and lows to such an extent that one can not put it down until it is finished. The real things in war are not always felt by those who never went to war, but in this book you feel what war is all about, including all of its flaws.

well written quick paced no bull account of the US Military
The Emperors Angry Guest was an excellent book and I would recommend it. Mr.Knox narrated his story well. The book was carefully documented. A very good example of the US government's propensity in not paying close attention what is really, truly going on with their own sons lives. These kids were 18-20 years old. The Battan Death March was real and so were the men who were forced at gunpoint to participate in it. A very good historical account...
