A REASONABLY GOOD BOOK
This book may prove more useful to day traders, but it is also helpful to short-term traders whose defintion of short term means 2-3 days. The section that has been most useful to me is chapter 10 which deals with price spikes and price probes.. Also you will find some useful ideas on money management.

A GOOD BOOK ON THE "ACADEMICS" OF BOND TRADING
As a bond trader, I find this book highly academic in its content rather than be a sort of trader's manual. It sounds more like the stuff to be r4ead by bank managers and portfolio managers but not too interesting for the average options speculator.

It therefore provides an education into how the market works. The difference can be seen by comparing a manual that tells you how to drive a car and another one that describes all the parts and tell you how what works.

Therefore purchasers of this book should know what they want. For an academic treatment, it is probably the best book. From a trading standpoint of practical use it may be useful but less than some might expect.

Valuation of Corporate Growth Opportunities: A Real Options Approach (Financial Sector of the American Economy)

Valuation of Corporate Growth Opportunities
This book appears to be a hastily published version of the author's doctorate work (apparently at Columbia University). Technically, the book may be excellent. However, my first impression of the book is unsettling. The copy that I received is bound/embossed backwards (compared to most books). There are so many grammatical errors that it causes one to question the accuracy of the numerous equations. Hopefully, a different editor proofed the equations than the one that proofed the text. Finally, very many references are NOT included in the bibliography. For example, see note 20 on page 25: neither Lander and Pinches (1998) nor Trigeogis (1995) are included. I have returned to book.

A Crushing Bore: The Paris Option
Third in the Covert-One series, this novel opens with a literal bang. Someone has destroyed with explosives one of the laboratory buildings in the famed Pasteur Institute. Not only is the building leveled, but also in the raging fire that followed, the world's first DNA or molecular computer was destroyed as well as its creator Dr. Emile Chamberland. For Covert-One agent Jon Smith the attack is personal as his good friend Dr. Marty Zellerbach was gravely injured. In addition, because of some very strange events surrounding military communications, there is a possibility the computer was not destroyed and may be in the hands of terrorists.

Soon, Jon Smith arrives in Paris and finds his good friend lying near death in a coma. In fact, Jon Smith arrives just in time to prevent a second murder attempt on his friend's life. At the same time, someone apparently using the new computer manages to bring down the entire United States utility and communication grids. Deaf and blind, the United Sates stands vulnerable to attack and the terrorists seem to be seeing how much havoc they can cause before they launch their final cataclysmic strike. With the fate of the world in the balance as well as his friend's life, Jon begins to follow the complex trail to the terrorists and their secret lair.

While that is the premise of what could have been a very enjoyable book, the execution is fatally flawed. Despite it's Bond style ending, much of this book commits the cardinal sin for any thriller. Boredom. This book is an incredible flat, dull read and quite a disappointment. This book is work to read and becomes a long march through the mud of boredom to reach the closing fifty pages that are mediocre at best.

While for long time readers of the late Robert Ludlum it has always been clear that this series did not stand up to Ludlum standards, the other two novels were at least fairly enjoyable. Both The Hades Factor (Coauthor Gayle Lynds) and The Cassandra Compact (coauthor Philip Shelby) while overwritten at times featured plenty of action and engaged the reader at least somewhat. However, in this novel, the overwriting is extremely prevalent throughout the novel and the read is entirely flat and without emotion. Even in scenes where, for example, terrorists are attacking Marty's hospital room, the sense of emotion or nerve-racking danger prevalent in Ludlum works is nowhere apparent.

The boredom factor is enhanced by the fact that released as a large trade paperback; this novel is 425 pages long. One gets the sense that the authors were paid by the word. Or that Gayle Lynds was unable to correctly follow Robert Ludlum's famous multi hundred plus page outline to properly create the work. The result is a novel that is seriously weaker than the first novel of the series, which she co-authored, and a sign that the series may die without the influence of the legendary master.

Intriguing series of non fiction bio-tech novels
The novel is action packed, well written and not to technical. This novel is a delight to read. The best part of the novel has to be the clarity of the vocabulary. I don't need a Phd in molecular science to enjoy this book. Ludlum times this book to the word. He has intense action and miraculous plans. He paces the book like the winding roads in Monaco lots of danger and cliff hangers. I can't say enough about this book it is a reccomended read.

Thriller/ Approach Paper 7: Review
Robert Ludlum's Covert One Novel the Paris Option lives up to the high standards of the Ludlum Legacy. In his third book featuring Operative Colonel Jon Smith (The Hades Effect, The Cassandra Compact); Ludlum keeps readers on their toes with many plot changing twists and turns. In this thriller of a novel the cunning Jon Smith with the help of his old friends MI6 Agent Peter Howell, Computer Genius Marty Zellerbach, and CIA Agent Randi Russell have to stop dangerous terrorist with the powerful DNA Computer before they launch a Nuclear Attack on America. Smith and his friends follow a trail of clues to finally catch up to the terrorist for a surprise ending. This book is highly suspenseful and one of my favorite Ludlum's yet.

Good Book with Outdated Software
The good news is that this book is very nicely done, providing a useful foundation to beginner and intermediate options traders. I found that I learned quite a lot about the interactions between option pricing and the various factors influencing pricing. The author provides numerous case study examples utilizing the OP-EVAL(TM) software included with the book. A majority of the book contains detailed examples describing how to use the software and interpret the output. The bad news is that the software will not run on current Windows operating systems (Windows 98 or newer). So don't buy the book if you want to try the software on your own. Efforts to contact the author, through the publisher McGraw-Hill, about the possibility of updating the software, have been unsuccessful. Otherwise a good book.

For All Options Traders
I trade options, and know that any options trader will benefit from this book. There are many parallels across markets, and this book delves into an area that isn't written about in detail anywhere else, and does a good job of illustrating the nuances of index options.

I also recommend "Credit Derivatives" by Tavakoli, for more about structuring index options in note form. Tavakoli also explains credit default options in detail.

An understanding of options delivered accurately and clearly
This book demystifies the factors that make options such an attractive and powerful trading and investment tool. Bittman's clarity leaves no misunderstanding or ambiguity about how things work in plain language and steers you clear of common beginners' mistakes. The included software provides a hands-on interactive learning experience to reinforce ideas introduced in the book and is a useful tool to evaluate potential trades.

The sections that lay out trading plans and strategies present a straightforward and disciplined approach to identifying and evaluating attractive trading opportunities. Although geared to options, these are helpful to consider no matter what markets or instruments one is trading.

Read Bittman first to get a solid foundation, then move on to the MacMillan books for the post-grad experience.

An excellent value for the price!

A thinly veiled attempt to debunk latest medical advice
I just hope anyone considering this book knows that it used to be titled "Bottlefeeding Without Guilt," which should tell you something about the author's real motivation here.

I agree with some of the other reviewers....save your money and try something else if you really need support. Perhaps your doctor can refer you to a group or something else that could be helpful to you.

The author here is just content to rant about how some people believe that breastfeeding should become the recommended form of feeding infants (which incidentally seems supported by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization) and that makes some mothers who can't (or who don't want to) breastfeed feel guilty.

I honestly feel sorry for mothers who CAN'T breastfeed....a group that the author seeks to make larger for some strange reason......but why attack those who do? There is no reason to feel guilty if you feel confident about your choice.

Unfortunate debates going on here
I've just been reading all the reviews and it's quite sad to see and feel the anger going on here. Breastfeeding or bottlefeeding is a mother's personal choice and I think mothers should be respected on whatever decision they make in regards to feeding choices for their infants. What a sad situation in this society to have people "feed in fear", feel guilty and throw insults at each other for fear of the wrath of either side.

Not a debate
These reviews are not supposed to be a debate on feeding methods, but rather to honestly review the book. It is painfully obvious that many of the so-called reviews of this book were from people who did not even read it, but are just chanting the breastfeeding mantra. And it is precisely these reviews that prove Ms. Robin's point: bottle feeding is looked on as child abuse by some. I read the book, and found it to be well-written. The target audience, those who could not or would not breast feed, will be happy to see that they are not imagining the negative attitudes thrown at them. This book does deliver the reassurances to bottle feeding mothers that the title promises. If you are looking for a breast feeding guide, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for a kindred spirit; a loving, bottle feeding mother, then you will enjoy the book.

OK, I guess
This book surprised me because it was much better than I expected. It presents a very readable--the most readable I've seen--summary of the mechanics and strategies of option trading. Moreover, the book covers topics I've never seen covered before in a book on options, such as the benefits of using information from established sources on the Internet; and cites several academic studies without slipping into the stale writing style associated with academe. Still, there is reason for a reader to be skeptical of the effectiveness of the strategies discussed in the book. The reason for this is the long-term performance record of the author's newsletter, which like the book is entitled "The Option Advi$or." According to Mark Hulbert's ratings, which have been regarded in some circles as the most accurate standards for measuring the quality of investment newsletters, this newsletter's long-term record ranks near the bottom of all letters covered. Only Joseph Granville's "Market Letter," as far as I remember, has a worse ten-year record. That said, one has to wonder whether the strategies discussed in the book are going to be effective in the future. On one hand, past performance does not necessarily portend future results. On the other, however, Schaeffer's picks in the past, assuming they've been chosen according to the strategies discussed in the book, have been less than outstanding in the past. Careful readers should remember that if they want to use this book more than as a decent general reference guide.

Great Technical Analysis
Only 50% of the book is about options. The other 50% concentrates on how to use technical analysis to find winning stocks. It is probably the best book for the beginner and intermediate trader. With the Technical analysis, it can be used for both stocks and options. It belongs on every trader's shelf. The reason it didn't get a "5 Star" is that he really doesn't go into closing a position if the trade is going the wrong way. I pretty much had to learn that on my own. I have read it cover-to-cover 3 times and certain chapters at least 6 times.

Whining hasn't made anyone ANY money!
I find it funny how many negative things I have been reading here and I have a few comments. First, this book is GREAT? In 4 months I made thousands of dollars by following Bernie's strategies. Second, he actually TEACHES how to do something with your money that isn't confusing, unlike many other money making strategy books. Third, he STRESSES over and over that you MUST CUT YOUR LOSSES when they hit 8% and let your winners run to overcome the deficit.
I wonder how many of these negative people that have posted angry messages here were too emotional and let their greed or fear get the better of them while making investment decisions attempting to follow Bernie's advice? I learned a long time ago that being negative and only talking about the problem and not a SOLUTION to the problem is NOT the way to live life.
Please read this book, and FOLLOW HIS RULES. It does actually work. And don't listen to Forbes, for crying out loud they have to hate anyone else that might actually compete with them and make them look bad. How many of you have made a dime off of what Forbes magazine taught you? I haven't. Read this book...it works, but ONLY if you work and FOLLOW THE RULES!

Most poorly written book in Finance
I read hundreds of books and never write reviews. This book is so poorly written that I was compelled to write this review.

If you just read the first 5 pages of the book, you will get an idea how poor a writer its author is. The first chapter is about basics of Options. However, even for someone like me who is experienced in stock trading, it was most confusing.

I dont know how to get a refund for this aweful book but I will stay away from any books written by this author and its publisher for publsihing this junk.

Tries to do too much
The book is a contradiction in a sense. It is supposed to help those new to options trading understand it, but by covering both futures and stock options simultaneously I only ended up confused. I am interested in learning stock options and the books primary focus seems to be on futures. Perhaps having two books dedicated to each of the subjects would be more appropriate for a "beginners" book. In addition, the early introduction of examples about "offsets" are very confusing and, again for a "beginners" book, not appropriate at such an early stage.

several clients have used this book to get started
We have referred several of our clients to Mr. McCafferty's book and they have all given it a thumbs up! He starts with the simple strategies and works his way up to more complicated strategies. He includes money management plans and how to implement your own trading plan, as well as how to integrate new software packages into your trading plan. We mail this book to clients who need help with options. This book is a must for new option traders!

A Pile of Doo Doo
This is the WORST BOOK EVER! Sunny Harris should be ashamed of herself - or at least Locked Up!

No substance, a waste of paper
The book starts with 112 pages of very basic information, information for the totally clueless newbie. If you have more than 3 months of investment experience or if you've read 2 beginner daytrading books or if you've surfed investment sites the last 3 months, you won't learn anything new here. The next 200 pages are references, website addresses, and stuff that belongs in a phone directory. Page 189 to page 313 is a listing of NASDAQ stocks!?!?!? All it shows is the ticker symbol, company name and which sector the company belongs to. NOTHING ELSE!!! I would have rated it zero stars if Amazon.com had such a rating. This book is all bun and no burger, I read my copy at the library (313 pages in half an hour). Leave this PoS on the shelf!!!!!

Not much substance, lots of filler !
This book is 350 pages but all of the relevant information could be squeezed into 1/3 that amount. I got 1/3 of the way into reading the book when I realized that the rest of the book is all appendices. Approximately 127 pages of the book are names and the corresponding symbols of Nasdaq listed companies. This might have been helpful before the Internet, but now it is a waste of space. It does give some basic information for the begginer who has no idea about day trading, however if you base the price on relevant information, in my opinion, the price should be under 10 dollars. If you have a little knowledge about day trading, you will not get much more info from reading this book. If you have no knowledge about daytrading, you might want to look around first, in my opinion, you can do allot better.
