Provocative, but Bordering on the Mean-Spirited!!!
After seeing the advertisements for this book in "World" magazine, along with some other books published by Winepress Publishing, I was intrigued. Not only that, I actually went and found the book and skimmed through it, still intrigued. But it wasn't until I opened the book and began to read it through, that I experienced some disappointment and ultimately couldn't recommend it to my friends.

Timothy Williams is a pastor to be reckoned with. He is an intense man of conviction, as the book will reveal, and he argues forcibly for the position he takes. However, I am a little disturbed with a few of his suppositions, and from reading his book, he might be inclined to pigeon-hole me into one of his neat categories, as I am not in agreement with some of his theology.

I found it incredible that it took 122 pages into the book before the mention of "grace." But then, he has maintained that grace is more connected with revival than God's common grace to all. Then I found it disconcerting that there was little said about love towards others, but a great deal of "hating for Jesus," and by that he means that, as Jesus said, if we do not hate our own life, we cannot become his disciples. There wasn't any support for this in the "real world," and again, he didn't bring up the notion of God's love for us, only to suggest that God's allowances towards us and His mercy leads us to repentance.

In Timothy Williams world, it appears there is some "legalistic" tendencies, and he applauds that. A real stickler for form, he cites the fact that those who don't dress right, read the right books, love sports, don't quote Bible verses to each other, and who don't invite their pastors into their homes to ask them to show them their sin - all these kinds of believers are in danger of going to hell.

Aside from getting into specific characterizations, I found his approach to be bordering on the mean-spirited, and almost in a Pharisee kind of way. It may be said that there is a great deal of "worldliness" in the church, and that there is a need to "clean up our act" by paying attention to what goes into our minds, whether that be the kinds of books we read, or movies we watch, or television viewing habits, or even the current obsession with organized sports. But to suggest that "believers in Christ" who have these kinds of things in their lives are going to hell is...well...uncalled for and down right ungracious.

Mr. Williams brags that he is glad that he doesn't need revival, but in the beginning of the book, he said that the Lord kept his mouth shut for 25 years because of undealt sin - this suggests something more than his unwillingness to admit he needed revival.

Pastor Williams might well be encouraged to read Jesus' words to the Pharisees about what comes out of the mouth is a direct result of what's in the heart. The Pharisees were very concerned with what "looked good" on the outside, but Jesus informed them that they were in error if they thought they could discern the heart attitudes of believers.

I would have liked to have given this book a great review, however, I can't. And to top it off, while he may rail against those who find enjoyment in "Christian" books, he ends this book by suggesting that the reader go to his next book, "Hating for Jesus," if the individual really wants to know the truth. I might have suggested the Bible, Pastor Williams. That's where the Truth is.

The pastor makes some valid arguments for pursuing holiness in "Whisper Revival," but his majoring on the minors was a setback for me, and I would recommend anyone who reads this book to be sure he or she is grounded in Scripture, and not Scripture twisting. And not only that, to read with discernment - that which comes from the Holy Spirit, unlike Mr. Williams assertion that the Holy Spirit is only given to those who obey God. While that may be true, it is also true that upon a profession of faith in Christ, and our coming to Him in belief, we are given the Holy Spirit, by which we are sealed unto the day of redemption. Unfortunately, Mr. Williams neglects to include that into his provocative thesis.

He needs more work on the "grace" part and "love" part, and less concern for the kinds of clothes we wear, and whether or not the women are covered in church. Read with care, believer!!!

True Revival
It is my prayer that if or when you decide to read this book, you do so with an undivided devotional to the Lord. I had heard about the "revival fire" happening in many churches today, and visited an assortment of these churches, never quite experiencing all the "blessings" that were being promoted. To be sure I would wonder what was wrong with me; why did I not experience "revival"?

When I picked up A Whisper Revival by Timothy Williams it had a different look and feel to it. As I began to read through it I started to understand why the "feeling" of revival had never come over me, I was not by any means in the position for God to bring about His revival in my life. The bible says that rebellion is like the sin of divination. When a man goes about in his own strength or in his own way to seek only what God can bring about, it is outright rebellion against Jesus Christ Himself. When Jesus said, "yet you refuse to come to me to have life", who was he talking to? He was talking to the religious men of that time who were not getting what they wanted from God. They were going about in their own will, their own power, and their own strength attempting to purge from God what their wicked hearts desired most: praise from man.

Looking back at the "revival" meetings that I have attended I wonder what would have happened if when the onslaught of tongues was let loose, all the loud prayer went up, and all the music rushed from the stage, what would have happened if God really showed up and poured out His Holy Spirit? With all the unconfessed sin in my own life at the time, and the sin of those accompanying me in worship, I doubt God would have been content to ignore it and "bless" His kids.

This book clearly laid out biblical foundations for a revival that comes from the Lord. The apostle Paul says that if an athlete competes, he has to do it according to the rules, or he gets no crown (2 Tim 2:5). A Whisper Revival plainly and beautifully weaves a picture of true revival in a setting that is uncompromised by human effort and will.

SEEKING TRUE REVIVAL?
TO THOSE SEEKING REVIVAL: if you find what you are looking for it will not be what you expect. I have been experiencing a wisper revival in my life now for the better part of a year. Tim William's book describes this lovely and painful road I am on exactly. Everything from counting the cost of being a desciple to daily becoming weaker as God's strength grows in me. As I read Wisper Revival I saw through scripture how a quiet and slow personal revival of repentance and death to self is the only way God will come in these last days. Now, as I look around at the false revival I wonder how I believed it was Godly. I saw in the May 2000 CHARISMA magazine on page 91 an advertisment for a youth revival in Florida which promoted "passion for Jesus, impartation of revival fire, and tanning on the beach." Let those who have ears to hear and eyes to see wake up and repent of a wide road and worldly Christian walk, and seek God's cross and the wisper revival he has for those that hunger and thirst for rightiousness.

Choices in Deafness
As a mom with a one year old newly diagnosed as severely deaf, I found this book very helpful. After going online and learning of all the controversy surrounding deaf issues,it was refreshing to find a book that gave equal time to differing views. This book led me to making the choice that is right for our child and our family. I loved that it gave professional veiwpoints for each language-learning option, as well as the story of a family that chose each of the various options.

Shane Feldman's my favorite chapter
I think this book is a plus for unsure parents.

Choices In Deafness
This is a great book!!

After our child was diagnosed with deafness, we were overwelmed with so much information, so many decisions to make. This book offers a nonbiased, comprehensive outline of the educational options available for deaf children. I use it as a reference manual and read it three or four times after my son's diagnosis. We're four years down the road now and I'm going to read it again. There is a wealth of information here. It is the first book I recommend parents read after finding out their child is deaf.

How to Make Money with Stock Options
This book gave me tremendous insight into the options market and how to evaluate puts and calls. The strategies that Mr. Hecht uses are informative and gave me a place to start, enabling me to create my own ideas. I knew nothing of options before reading this book. I feel very comfortable with my understanding of the subject at present and have now used options as a part of my investing tools.

A valuable and easy-to-understand primer
Especially in these volatile times in the stock market, Hecht's book is extremely valuable reading for investors. Using plain language, Hecht explains how investors can hedge and pursue less risky strategies with stock options. Those who have some familiarity to investing in the stock market will have no trouble understanding Hecht's presentation of what is often difficult material. His book makes it easy for conservative investors, and those who want to pursue less risky approaches, to make stock options a part of their investment strategy. Thanks to Hecht's book, stock options are now an integral part of my approach to the market, and I'm benefitting handsomely.

Finally, an easy to understand book for the novice investor!
This book will really help novice investors like me to quickly understand the risks and rewards form investing in stock options. It's concise and easy to read. Within 10 hours of reading, I had a good understanding of appropriate option investments and when the risks of certain types of option investments far outweigh the potential rewards.

A MUST READ SERIES FOR WHOEVER WANTS TOTRADE IN FUTURES
This Series "Schwager on Futures" is the biggest work has ever been written on futures trading. As a Futures Trader I advise everybody to read these books before to starts any real trading in Futures, that if not taken in the proper way can be very painfull. As a Member of IFTA(International federation Of Tecnical Analisys)I suggest you to read it joint with John Murphy's "Technical Analisys f Futures Markets" and "Intermarket Technical Analisys" this will give you a integral knowledge of Futures Environment that is what you need on your Trading philosophy. I always let these books on my desk because I need them so many times during my trading day. THEY ARE A REAL REFERENCE. The good thing of this series is that you can test your comprension by the various study guides. Reading the book about "Managed Trading" You can even get able to judge the returns of the various CTA and decide when it is better to invest in them and to whom give your money.Probably you are not be interested in the Fundamental analisys book but remember, especially in the commodities markets, EVEN IF YOU ARE GOING TO TRADE TECHNICALLY IS VERY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND FUNDAMENTAL ANALISYS!!! Thank you very much to have spent all this time for read me. If you still have some doubts do not hesitate to contact me at my E-mail. Buon Trading!!!

This book hurt my head!
I read this book ... I was thoroughly impressed.

I had read Schwager Market Wizards books after I had read this Technical books on trading. And although I liked it, I found many of the charts and graphs quite tedious. On the other hand was thoroughly impressed at level of information that was being presented. This book is a permanent part of my collection solely because it reads more like a college text book than a commercial investment book. He really delves deep and makes you think about what futures really are and what it takes to decipher their movements. I am looking forward to his comments on single stock futures.

One of the best Technical Analysis books
I thought Schwager did an excellent job with this book. I have read a ton of books on technical analysis and can say that this is definitely one of the best ones out there. I really liked the book, the real world chart analysis was excellent as was the section on trading systems. I recommend this book without hesitation whenever someone asks about a good technical analysis book. It is probably the best book on technical analysis I have read it does an excellent job showing how a trader actually uses and interprets charts and indicators. It ranks in the top 10 books on trading that I have and it has paid for itself many times over.

Campaign Option: Council of Wyrms: Roleplaying Dragons in the Ad&d Game! (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Campaign Option)

Needs better organization
I, as a player, love it. Playing a dragon allows you to make short work of enemies that any demihuman would cringe at the sight of! Why, last week we killed a 40-foot eel in about 3 rounds, only one of us taking damage. However, our DM has some problems finding rules and tables, making it difficult to play smoothly, and often letting a character getting away with doing something he can't.

Great fun!
Playing as dragons is amazingly cool, I tried playing as a dragon before I knew of this book, but it didnt work, now I just photocopy a dragon character sheet and it works perfectly!

Very Interesting!
This was my first AD&D book. I bought this book for the sole information on dragons, but lo-and-behold when I read it further, I got information I never expected.

If you're looking for the fifteen kinds of dragons located on the remote land of Io's Blood Island Chain and a good campaign option based on dragons and their kindred, this is your book. I found some things that could help me in my writings like the Great Wyrm info, the body lengths of the dragons, and the extended text on the the Metallic, Gem, and Chromatic dragons. This book explains everything you need to know about Io's dragons, from hoard treasure to proficiencies to Dragonic combat to dragon kits. It includes character sheets, marvelous illustrations, size charts and three adventures for the players.

The Council of Wyrms made me believe that AD&D wasn't just some game, and that I should look into it a little more.

Global Convertible Investing: The Gabelli Way

I hope this is not the Gabelli Way.
I am unsure what book the rest of the reviewers are reading; but it was not this one. The book is not only ambiguous, but poorly crafted with topical transitions sloppy. I can comfortably say that there is not a single section of the book that adequately unveils the dynamics of various convertible instruments or their pricing. Indeed, the book reads more like a glossary than an explanatory text and for persons new to converts, the spate of regurgitated pricing theories will likely do more harm then good. Perhaps the one strength of the text is that it serves as a broad reference for readers truly interested in converts to seek out more educative pieces. For more informed readers, modest incremental knowledge seems to be the only gain.

Derivative investing is becoming more relevant!
The strategies that hedge funds are using now will be in the hands of ordinary investors within the next three weeks. One such strategy is the use of international convertible bonds. This is a derivative instrument that cannot be ignored. Fixed income until YOU the investor decide to switch.

How important is this. Mr.Woodson [not only shows how relevant it is for today's investor he makes sure that you know the necessary tips and tricks to outwit Wall Street at their own game. As investors wisen up to the need to retain their short term gains instruments such as convertible bonds, warrants, options, futures and many other derivative style investments will dominate the average investors portfolio.

Another two great books along this vein are "Futures For Small Speculators" and "Single Stock Futures For Small Speculators". Everyday investors are simply tired of the same old "buy and hold" strategies that don't work or give up to much value in the short run.

Buy convertible arbitrage you won't be disappointed.

Convertible tour de force
Quite a few books have been written about the specialized subject of convertible securities, but Hart Woodson has distinguished himself by writing a comprehensive book that includes all of the latest types of convertible securities as well as the latest strategies--in plain language that a beginner could comprehend, and with sophisticated equations included for the sophisticated quant. Better still, the book is not simply an ad for convertibles nor for his employer, Gabelli Asset Management. The pitfalls as well as the potentials are described. Hart can write. Hart has broad experience. He puts it all together in this practical book.

Healing Options
I bought this book in an attempt to learn more about new options in Grave's treatments. I assumed by the title of the book, that Ms. Flax found a way of conquering Graves. Unfortunately "Healing Options" tells the story of her continual struggle with Graves. While it is a true representation of a chronic illness, it is neither an uplifting or comforting story. Ms. Flax covers the current Western methods of treatment. She does this by offering examples that illustrate the downside of each treatment. It is difficult to accept the alternative treatment methods she promotes (i.e.: massage, herbs, meditation). She was not originally treated with any of these methods and it is uncertain whether her outcome would have been better or worse. For me, the valuable information Ms. Flax provides is over-shadowed by her depressing and sad biographical narrative.

a valuable PART of the graves patient's library
This is NOT THE ONLY BOOK a graves patient should have in their library. This is ONLY ONE perspective and to truly get the best treatment, I think it's important to consider all treatment measures before making the best decisions. This book covers the struggles the patient has to go through and it covers the fact that there are OPTIONS... it's not a cut and dry experience. It also covers traditional vs. alternative methods. BUT the reader must understand Graves is DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE and this book doesn't mean that alternative is the way to go or not to go... it's just a perspective in Graves Treatment from a patient's point of view. It does provide info based on experience and for many Graves patients it provides relief from the "I AM THE ONLY ONE" syndrome. But I would also recommend purchasing medical books, books that cover both eastern, western, traditional AND non-traditional methods of treatment.

The author clarifies a misconception.
I am pleased to have this opportunity to dialogue about my book and respond to reader comments. Specifically, I would like to address the misconception that my book offers a "cure" for Graves' disease. I am a 50 year-old woman who after years of misdiagnosis was finally diagnosed in 1991 with Graves' disease and Hashimoto's (chronic hypothyroidism and an autoimmune disease). I received standard U.S. treatment, radioactive iodine. To my dismay, this did not make me "better". I grew to understand that healing takes time and calls for a look at causes and not just the alleviation of symptoms. I stopped looking for a quick fix-there is no quick fix for chronic illness. Dr. Christiane Northrup says, "There is a difference between healing and curing. Healing is a natural process and is within the power of everyone. Curing, which is what doctors are called upon to do, usually consists of an external treatment and medication or surgery is used to mask or eliminate symptoms. This external treatment doesn't necessarily address the factors that contribute to the symptoms in the first place. Healing goes deeper than curing and must always come from within." I wrote this book as a part of my healing journey. It is a book I wish had existed when I was first diagnosed, feeling so vulnerable, overwhelmed, confused and alone. In my book, I explain Graves', offer practical tips on locating physicians and managing one's health care as well as address the many complementary therapies and offer help in finding practitioners. My hope is that my book will help others in their quest for wellness, their healing journey.

Excellent guide for starting up an e-company
Having been through the wringer, and witnessed several friends try to do the same, I feel that this book covers the necessary steps for starting, and continuing, a successful e-company. Having a good checklist is essential, doing it with a good sense of humor is always a plus. The interviews brought the material to life where normal examples would have been boring. Nicely done.

Excellent Basic How-to-get-started book
This is not one of those dry books where you are immediately lost after the first page. This is an excellent resource for beginners like myself, who are thinking about starting a dot com and don't have the foggiest idea about how to go about it. Ms. Eglash has researched the sites and subject for you, giving you a head start on the process. There is also some practical advise from real people who have been there already. I look forward to a follow-up book.

Recommneded for traders with advanced math skills
This book isn't about teaching you how to place an option trade and profit. Instead, it's about the mathematics behind option pricing model. I am a beginner in options trading and was looking for answers on how options get priced and what parameters affect the price. To be more precise, I was carious to know how the formula looks like. I learned from the book important things like Delta, Gamma, Vega parameters and their impact on pricing options.

Logical progression of ideas in a lucid style
I picked up this book as additional reading for an actuarial exam on investments, in hopes of getting a better and more intuitive understanding of the Black-Scholes Formula. This book develops ideas in a clear, natural, intuitive sequence. I particularly commend the author for a lucid and agreeable style. I was expecting a book on this kind of subject to be dry and heavy-going, but instead what I found was a very good teacher guiding me through the subject. It should be mentioned that the development of the formula entirely from scratch is not in this book, as that would basically require stochastic calculus or other techniques beyond the scope of the book. Even so, he does explain the rationale behind the formula as well as related concepts such as hedging away risk and self-financing strategies. He gives the appropriate versions of the Black-Scholes Formula for stocks with continuous or lumpy dividends and, of course, talks about put-call parity for European options. There is excellent coverage of The Greeks (delta, gamma, vega, etc.) along with numerous graphs. A nice surprise was the inclusion of some approximation formulas for the cumulative normal distribution that can be calculated easily with a spreadsheet or calculator. Finally, he has very good coverage on binomial trees, of both the classic "Cox-Ross-Rubinstein" and the "flexible" varieties. I have to admit that I have read only through Ch. 7 so far (which is approx. 2/3 of the book), but I will probably keep going because it is so good.

Outstanding and Easy to Follow
Great book for practitioners in finance without cumbersome math formula!

Very Good Primer
This is an excellent and invaluable learning tool. It is helpful to have some financial experience, namely understanding some of the terms like call and put, etc, so that you may spend more time focusing on the concepts, but not absolutely necessary.
The book is logically organized to start with an overview of the futures market, followed by an overview of futures, generalized hedging, and options. All topics are related to energy commodities with easy to understand explanations. Relevant details relating to the energy market (definitions of spark spreads, inter-exchange hedging strategies, etc) are included.
Although I could not go into the market and trade commodities after reading this book, I could understand the overall concept of hedging energy futures and options and this serves as an excellent primer to the next level.
I would say that this book is at about the college senior level, easy on the math and not heavy on modeling. I would recommend it for the beginning MBA student but not at a PHD level.

Outstanding material on trading energy futures and options
Thanks to the authors for presenting this information in language that is understandable to the masses. You have demystified a topic that is often encrypted.

Many people in the energy business would benefit greatly in their overall understanding by reading this book! It is well-organized and makes the complex business of hedging futures contracts seem logical.

I have worked with wholesale energy traders and seen the trading floor with it's live weather maps, analytical systems, and 100 or so traders and I thought it was an exciting environment. Understanding P/(L) positions, mark to market, and familiarizing with the multitude of hedging strategies has made this intriguing business all the more interesting to me.

The book delivers exactly what its title implies. Thank you, again!

easy to understand
The Fundamentals of Trading Energy Futures & Options was one the best business books I've read. It was easy to read and understand. The book is well written and earned its cost in my first hour of trading. I highly recommend this book.
