Provocative, but Bordering on the Mean-Spirited!!!
True RevivalWhen I picked up A Whisper Revival by Timothy Williams it had a different look and feel to it. As I began to read through it I started to understand why the "feeling" of revival had never come over me, I was not by any means in the position for God to bring about His revival in my life. The bible says that rebellion is like the sin of divination. When a man goes about in his own strength or in his own way to seek only what God can bring about, it is outright rebellion against Jesus Christ Himself. When Jesus said, "yet you refuse to come to me to have life", who was he talking to? He was talking to the religious men of that time who were not getting what they wanted from God. They were going about in their own will, their own power, and their own strength attempting to purge from God what their wicked hearts desired most: praise from man.
Looking back at the "revival" meetings that I have attended I wonder what would have happened if when the onslaught of tongues was let loose, all the loud prayer went up, and all the music rushed from the stage, what would have happened if God really showed up and poured out His Holy Spirit? With all the unconfessed sin in my own life at the time, and the sin of those accompanying me in worship, I doubt God would have been content to ignore it and "bless" His kids.
This book clearly laid out biblical foundations for a revival that comes from the Lord. The apostle Paul says that if an athlete competes, he has to do it according to the rules, or he gets no crown (2 Tim 2:5). A Whisper Revival plainly and beautifully weaves a picture of true revival in a setting that is uncompromised by human effort and will.

Choices in Deafness
Shane Feldman's my favorite chapter
Choices In DeafnessAfter our child was diagnosed with deafness, we were overwelmed with so much information, so many decisions to make. This book offers a nonbiased, comprehensive outline of the educational options available for deaf children. I use it as a reference manual and read it three or four times after my son's diagnosis. We're four years down the road now and I'm going to read it again. There is a wealth of information here. It is the first book I recommend parents read after finding out their child is deaf.

A MUST READ SERIES FOR WHOEVER WANTS TOTRADE IN FUTURES
This book hurt my head!I had read Schwager Market Wizards books after I had read this Technical books on trading. And although I liked it, I found many of the charts and graphs quite tedious. On the other hand was thoroughly impressed at level of information that was being presented. This book is a permanent part of my collection solely because it reads more like a college text book than a commercial investment book. He really delves deep and makes you think about what futures really are and what it takes to decipher their movements. I am looking forward to his comments on single stock futures.

Great fun!
Very Interesting! If you're looking for the fifteen kinds of dragons located on the remote land of Io's Blood Island Chain and a good campaign option based on dragons and their kindred, this is your book. I found some things that could help me in my writings like the Great Wyrm info, the body lengths of the dragons, and the extended text on the the Metallic, Gem, and Chromatic dragons. This book explains everything you need to know about Io's dragons, from hoard treasure to proficiencies to Dragonic combat to dragon kits. It includes character sheets, marvelous illustrations, size charts and three adventures for the players.
The Council of Wyrms made me believe that AD&D wasn't just some game, and that I should look into it a little more.

I hope this is not the Gabelli Way.
Derivative investing is becoming more relevant! How important is this. Mr.Woodson [not only shows how relevant it is for today's investor he makes sure that you know the necessary tips and tricks to outwit Wall Street at their own game. As investors wisen up to the need to retain their short term gains instruments such as convertible bonds, warrants, options, futures and many other derivative style investments will dominate the average investors portfolio.
Another two great books along this vein are "Futures For Small Speculators" and "Single Stock Futures For Small Speculators". Everyday investors are simply tired of the same old "buy and hold" strategies that don't work or give up to much value in the short run.
Buy convertible arbitrage you won't be disappointed.

Very Good PrimerThe book is logically organized to start with an overview of the futures market, followed by an overview of futures, generalized hedging, and options. All topics are related to energy commodities with easy to understand explanations. Relevant details relating to the energy market (definitions of spark spreads, inter-exchange hedging strategies, etc) are included.
Although I could not go into the market and trade commodities after reading this book, I could understand the overall concept of hedging energy futures and options and this serves as an excellent primer to the next level.
I would say that this book is at about the college senior level, easy on the math and not heavy on modeling. I would recommend it for the beginning MBA student but not at a PHD level.
Outstanding material on trading energy futures and optionsMany people in the energy business would benefit greatly in their overall understanding by reading this book! It is well-organized and makes the complex business of hedging futures contracts seem logical.
I have worked with wholesale energy traders and seen the trading floor with it's live weather maps, analytical systems, and 100 or so traders and I thought it was an exciting environment. Understanding P/(L) positions, mark to market, and familiarizing with the multitude of hedging strategies has made this intriguing business all the more interesting to me.
The book delivers exactly what its title implies. Thank you, again!
easy to understand
Timothy Williams is a pastor to be reckoned with. He is an intense man of conviction, as the book will reveal, and he argues forcibly for the position he takes. However, I am a little disturbed with a few of his suppositions, and from reading his book, he might be inclined to pigeon-hole me into one of his neat categories, as I am not in agreement with some of his theology.
I found it incredible that it took 122 pages into the book before the mention of "grace." But then, he has maintained that grace is more connected with revival than God's common grace to all. Then I found it disconcerting that there was little said about love towards others, but a great deal of "hating for Jesus," and by that he means that, as Jesus said, if we do not hate our own life, we cannot become his disciples. There wasn't any support for this in the "real world," and again, he didn't bring up the notion of God's love for us, only to suggest that God's allowances towards us and His mercy leads us to repentance.
In Timothy Williams world, it appears there is some "legalistic" tendencies, and he applauds that. A real stickler for form, he cites the fact that those who don't dress right, read the right books, love sports, don't quote Bible verses to each other, and who don't invite their pastors into their homes to ask them to show them their sin - all these kinds of believers are in danger of going to hell.
Aside from getting into specific characterizations, I found his approach to be bordering on the mean-spirited, and almost in a Pharisee kind of way. It may be said that there is a great deal of "worldliness" in the church, and that there is a need to "clean up our act" by paying attention to what goes into our minds, whether that be the kinds of books we read, or movies we watch, or television viewing habits, or even the current obsession with organized sports. But to suggest that "believers in Christ" who have these kinds of things in their lives are going to hell is...well...uncalled for and down right ungracious.
Mr. Williams brags that he is glad that he doesn't need revival, but in the beginning of the book, he said that the Lord kept his mouth shut for 25 years because of undealt sin - this suggests something more than his unwillingness to admit he needed revival.
Pastor Williams might well be encouraged to read Jesus' words to the Pharisees about what comes out of the mouth is a direct result of what's in the heart. The Pharisees were very concerned with what "looked good" on the outside, but Jesus informed them that they were in error if they thought they could discern the heart attitudes of believers.
I would have liked to have given this book a great review, however, I can't. And to top it off, while he may rail against those who find enjoyment in "Christian" books, he ends this book by suggesting that the reader go to his next book, "Hating for Jesus," if the individual really wants to know the truth. I might have suggested the Bible, Pastor Williams. That's where the Truth is.
The pastor makes some valid arguments for pursuing holiness in "Whisper Revival," but his majoring on the minors was a setback for me, and I would recommend anyone who reads this book to be sure he or she is grounded in Scripture, and not Scripture twisting. And not only that, to read with discernment - that which comes from the Holy Spirit, unlike Mr. Williams assertion that the Holy Spirit is only given to those who obey God. While that may be true, it is also true that upon a profession of faith in Christ, and our coming to Him in belief, we are given the Holy Spirit, by which we are sealed unto the day of redemption. Unfortunately, Mr. Williams neglects to include that into his provocative thesis.
He needs more work on the "grace" part and "love" part, and less concern for the kinds of clothes we wear, and whether or not the women are covered in church. Read with care, believer!!!
