Whole Board Thinking in Joseki Volume Two: 3-4 point, high kakari & far kakaris
Published in Paperback by Fourth Line Press (August, 1997)

An excellent perspective of Joseki vs. developing fusekiI was impressed by the problem arrangement and the explanations of the various answers. They are clear and, because of the choice in board variations, well illustrate the difference that one line or two stones can make. The visual format is remarkably comfortable. Lots of white space for notes (ferinnstance references to "The Great Joseki Debate" or the "Get Strong" series. A comment on the back says that this will be a dog-eared favorite. yup!

A Great Tactics Book For Opening PlayThis is the natural follow-on to Mr. Walker's OPENINGS FOR JUNIORS. This work includes 34 well annotated short games (fewer than 25 moves) which illustrate the teaching points in the first part of the book. An additional aid is the variety of openings and defenses these games present.
If a serious student of chess, with a rating below 1500, were to study the games you will be prepared for most tournament competition with the one glaring exception -- the Evan's Gambit. While not seen in every tournament, enough people still use this opening to have warranted it's inclusion.
Still, the book is well worth the money to purchase and the time to study.

He's the best!Robert Bellin is one of the best chess writers there is. Everything he has done (Test Your Positional Play, the "Mastering" opening series, etc.) is of the utmost instructional content. He never forgets that he is teaching you. This book on the Dutch is as good as his other stuff. He guides you along so that you can play the opening with confidence and understanding, cognizant of the risks, the rewards, the plans for bothe sides, and everything else you need to play an opening. The Dutch is a great, exciting opening. It was what Morphy played most against 1. d4. Get this book.

Excellent book on Slav. This is a really nice book on the Slav. I find myself using it more than Sadler's book. It has 76 well-annotated games, a great introductory chapter on ideas of the Slav, and a nice index of variations at the end. The whole thing is just very well-done. The authors are "two Siberian masters" who really know their stuff, and are quite intense about it.

Great DrawlThis book has a candid southern feel, with a real drawl built into the words. She exposes the writer, Eudora Welty, through her comparison test, as a queen of the south and a mental anomaly. Her rights as a female are also discussed. Even the title runs like river water on the tongue. I enjoyed it.

A gift for womenWorking in a Christian bookstore exposes me to hundreds of Bibles but I find this one to be not only an effective study tool but a foundation for developing character, integrity and understanding God's plan for women. Informative helps, devotions and biblical references combine together presenting a strong biblically based cornerstone for today's Christian woman.

A great American story that few knowThis is a terrific book--fascinating, charming, insightful--about a chapter in American history most people know little about. We're wasting time and money on bad Pearl Harbor movies, but this is a story that begs to be filmed. It has everything.
