Too Amatuerish
I thought the book too amatuerish, even childish. It was written from the aspect of someone who knows just enough about locks to be dangerous. Some of the techniques just plain won't work or will damage something, though the author stresses caution to prevent such occurrences. If he really wants the reader to be cautious he should tell him to not try his methods.

Old tech, but worth thinking about
Much of the content (only 24 pages!) is pretty dated with regard to the type of locks being bypassed, but the concepts are the same today. You can install the best lock in the world, but it has to be part of an overall installation that won't allow easy workarounds. It made me look at my home and cars with a fresh point of view and awareness of the ways to bypass the existing locks.

While other security books mention the need to be aware of bypass techniques, this book demonstrates many specific techniques and how they are used. Worth a few bucks as part of an overall security awareness.

The Open Source Handbook

Rantings of an opertunistic alarmist.
Overly asserts that the end users of open source software are at great risk of being sued, unless those users are indemnified by their vendor. I firmly believe this assertion is entirely without legal foundation. But, don't take my word for it, read the position paper on the subject by Eben Moglen, attorney and professor of law at Columbia University. In my opinion, Overly is nothing but an opportunistic liar. Maybe he wants to sell his $90 127 page paperback book, or maybe he wants to sell his legal services, or maybe he is just another shill for Microsoft. In any case, I don't think Overly can be trusted. Furthermore, there is no reason to pay $90 for 127 page paperback book, when Overly has explained his case dozens of times, all over the web.

Badly Written
I have not read this book, but having read some articles that he has written I feel certain that it will contain only a biased and superficial opinion. I do not know what Michael R. Overly's agenda is, but his ideas stink.

Fearmongering
Mr Overly specialises in exploiting the reputational and contractural issues raised by technology. Do not be mislead by the title of this book into thinking it is a balanced overview of the risks with open source. Proprietary software shares many of the same risks (eg the Timeline patent case) and indeminfication loopholes, quite apart from the specific proprietary risks identified with unauditable code and vendor lock-in.

Testing your faith
BETWEEN FLOORS AND OPEN DOORS is about spirituality and what happens where your faith is tested. Jonas Brooks is having a lot of hard luck in his life and feels that God isn't on his side anymore. The last straw comes after he catches his wife cheating; he vows never to go to church again. He no longer wants to be a Christian.

Ronez "Rony" Lee meets Brooklyn Davis after rear-ending him in a traffic accident. They have an immediate attraction towards each other and eventually begin dating. She is a Christian and he has been struggling with his faith for the past twelve years. Rony starts witnessing to him hoping to help him realize the power in loving God. Brooklyn isn't really interested in rekindling his relationship with God. However, although he feels hesitant, he also feels that if he doesn't comply he may lose Rony as a mate.

In the end, each of the characters experiences a life-changing event. Brooklyn witnesses a robbery. Jonas finally confronts his cheating wife. Rony loses a good friend. What will be the outcome for each? Will each incident help them realize the power in loving God?

BETWEEN FLOORS AND OPEN DOORS had a good message but it wasn't articulated - at all. It reads like Mr. Williams merely cut and paste the pages of a journal into a book without having it professionally edited. I got lost trying to figure out the dialogue. The scenes switched so often, I had to reread them to get a better understanding. The fragmented sentence structure, grammatical and punctuation errors, different fonts, misspelled words, and overemphasis on words and phrases significantly depleted the quality of the book. An example, the final chapter is called "Revolation." As if I weren't taunted enough, the ending is a book of poetry called Jonas Wail. I guess the typos are more acceptable in poetry.

It had potential...
With a good editor, some clear dialogue and a even clearer story line, this could have been an excellent book. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The synopsis intrigued me enough to want to buy the book; however, after struggling through chapter one, I regretted my purchase.

Don't waste your money - a very bad book
Don't waste your money. This is some of the most unorganized, poorly commented code I've ever seen. Some of the code is in German! The book is in English so silly me, I expected the code to be use English words for variable and function names. An example of their lack of attention to detail is the first example in the book (circumcircle) is not even in try.cpp. Yes, I fixed the example myself, but this is an example of the author's sloppiness. How about file names like a.cpp, b.cpp, c.cpp, etc! This was an ... waste of time for me.

no source == closed !open
the book and associated library look interesting.
i have not read it, only flipped through it.
i almost bought it but decided to do a bit of research
before hand. i'm glad i did, because the open geometry
library is in fact a closed source library
(as i understand it you must buy the book to get the source).
the word open is apparently derived from opengl.
the problem is that the word open in opengl is the 'open' of 'open standards' and 'open source'.
this is at best an ignorance of the current trends
in the software development world, and at worst, plain misleading.
when the authors either change the library's
license or the library's name to more directly reflect the true
nature of its license, i'll be glad to buy the book and review it again.
i think that they would find that by open sourcing their business model
they would stand to make a lot more money, as they are not really
in the business of selling software, but selling books. who wants to buy
buy a book about an obscure closed source library that could disappear tomorrow?

Absolute Garbage!
This garbage is not worth owning. The writer is borderline insane. His ideas are that boxing is the only way to fight, and his broken English is next to impossible to follow. The author or his representitives are online over on Yahoo and plague the clubs with SPAM and obnoxious posts even after being asked to stop repeatedly. The material that we have viewed is poorly made and the instruction is of very poor quality. You would be better off going to a third grade playground and learning to fight from the class bully. Do yourself a favor and do not waste your money on these books. He has further made reference that America deserved the attack on the 9/11. I would not give this man ANY American money.

Nice idea...
I bought these thinking it would be a great idea to arrange cards to create my own sequence of Asanas based on what my body needed at the moment and to jog my memory of poses I don't typically do, but should add. Unfortunately, it seems that the creator of these cards has come up with her own names for the poses and presents the package in a very confusing manner. If you're used to a more traditional style, like Iyengar, you'd be better off with a Yoga Journal video (for example, guided by someone like Rodney Yee or Patricia Walden) or a book.

An exercise in pseudo-academic self-indulgence
This book was a complete disappointment. I bought it to learn about hypermedia systems. What I read was an exercise in pseudo-academic self indulgence. The authors clearly know their stuff, but equally clearly, they were more interested in showing off their knowledge than in communicating it.

The book is full of references to earlier hypertext/hypermedia systems, but they all assume that the reader is as familiar with them as the authors. The net result is that only someone who is already an expert in this field can make any sense out of anything they are saying.

The book includes a number of "design patterns," but they are of little value. None of them includes a "motivation" section to put the problem into perspective. Nor do they include many of the other sections (applicability, structure, collaborations, etc) that made the "Design Patterns" book so valuable.

Similarly, the object-oriented framework for hypermedia they discuss is presented at only the most abstract level, with little discussion of parctical implementation and use issues.

If you are already an expert in this field and you want an academic discussion of the state of the art, this book might be OK. Otherwise, forget it.

Amazon is getting my copy back. The publisher needs feedback too.
