Great Way to Engage the ToddlerWell, as a mom who loves books, this one has captured the love of books with a toddler's need to control things. This is a very sturdy book with "peek-a-boo" pictures that swing out that can stand up to very grabby hands (as opposed to the flap books that get ripped very quickly) There is not really a story, but it has a very cute punch line at the end.

A wonderful book for small children! This charming toddler story has a classic simplicity that entranced our 1-year-old. Wibbly Pig has a pile of presents to open. Each present is a distinctive shape, allowing the child to predict what's inside each colorful package. The illustrations are lovely watercolors with an attention to detail rarely found in books for this age group. I would enthusiastically recommend Wibbly Pig Opens His Presents to anyone with small children - especially if they have a birthday or other present-opening occasion coming up!

A Better Understanding of the Coastal EnvironmentAs one of the Open University Oceanography Series, this book offers an excellent introduction to the physical processes operating in the nearshore and immediate offshore environments of the coastal zone. With a particular emphasis on the relationship between process and form, this work covers essential ideas and practical applications for university level instructors and students interested in the coastal environment. The book material is straightforward, readable, and offers the opportunity to develop fundamental research questions at a variety of levels. Best of all, it's a well-organized work at an affordable price.

A lovely blend of theatre and fantasyWell, speaking as an actor and a Stasheff fan, I can say I found this book (and indeed, the whole series) perfectly delightful. While a few of the characterizations are a little bit stereotyped (no character actresses? Really, Mr. Stasheff!), I have to admit that, to one extent or another, I've trod the boards with each and every one of those folks---guess things only get to be stereotypes because they're true. The plot is fast-paced and beautifully developed, and Stasheff has obviously done his research. The technical details (at least, those connected to the theatre) are beautifully accurate, and Mr. Stasheff is one of the few authors I've seen who can actively capture on-stage, off-stage, and audience reaction simultaneously without being a single bit boring. There's a nice tie-in with his Warlock series, as well, but only if you're paying close attention. All in all, this is an excellent book, and I recommend it quite highly. Now, if he'd only *finish* the series...

A very humbling readThis is the autobiography of a truly remarkable woman - though I get the feeling that the author herself would disagree with that comment. This is the story of a woman who who suffered so many "knockbacks" in life, ill health, involved in an abusive relationship etc, that she herself became an alcoholic.
When Maureen decided to pull herself together, she joined AA and there met another recovering alcoholic (Hugh), through whom she discovered the Christian faith. For many years now this couple have devoted their lives to helping those who are less fortunate than most, those who society tend to shun ie drug addicts, prostitutes etc.
This woman's story is well reading as it takes you through her own battle and the onto helping others with theirs.
I personally cannot rate it highly enough!

transpersonal psychology and recovery from addictionsFor those familar with AA's Big Book wanting to connected with their higher power and go on to oneness with the higher power. Tav Sparks compares the 12 step program of AA to Eastern Yogas and presents the steps and promises as a Western yoga with union of consciousness with the higher power as being the esoteric goal of the recovery process. Included are some modern means of accessing transpersonal reality such as holotropic breath work. The book may be hard to follow if one is not familar with any of the 12-step programs, yet, it is not technical but heart-felt and inspiring.
