This book is amazing in its careful attention to detail and character development. I've read it more than 13 times and been completely absorbed in it every time. This is truly better than Canty's previous stories, although traces of these characters can also be found in his short stories. This is definately my favorite book, and I give it my highest recommendation!

The definitive source for open channel flow measurement from the industry leader in environmental sampling and flow metering. The book contains a fundamental description of open channel flow, a discussion of the principal types of flumes and weirs, a primary device selection guide, a discussion of the Manning equation and it's limitations, and (most importantly) discharge tables for almost all types and sizes of primary devices that one might find in the field. Everyone in the water or wastewater industry should have copy for general reference.

James Hull Miller's life-time work in the area of self-supporting scenery is neatly organized and laid out in this book. This reference is especially useful to those producing a play, musical, etc., in a setting that is not the typical theater. Mr. Miller demonstrates that utilizing free-standing set pieces allows greater versitililty than the conventional set. His ideas are innovative, invigorating and inspiring! "Self-Supporting Scenery for Children's Theater and Grown-up's Too" contains both the theory behind free-standing sets and the practical "how-to" for building pieces. I like this book because it offers practical solutions to the problem of staging in an area that has no proscenium arch. The sets are light in weight, store easily, transport well and look good. Mr. Miller's expertise is obvious and appreciated.

In the Jewish tradition, the weekly Torah reading is a shared text that encourages discussion about ethical issues. Here, Professor Tamari engages us in short weekly discussions (about five to six pages each) inspired by that week's reading and the classical commentators who have, for centuries, interpreted and taught. Tamari cuts straight to the main themes that can often be overlooked, but which represent many of the most pertinent lessons for our time. He is less concerned with plot than with the power of the bible's strongest images and the characters of the bible's most striking individuals. The bible is often mistaken for a palliative for the poor, the weak, the suffering. Here Tamari's commentary brings out the lessons for the strong and successful so that they complement material success with moral excellence.

This gift book is giant warm fuzzy that's like a hug to receive. Each page contains an adorable full color drawing of Teddy bears and a heartwarming quote or two about friendship from famous people, not so famous people, and/or Bible. Personal notes writing by my friends in the margins make looking back at this book a quick reminder of our friendship even at a distance. The artwork is truly outstanding, and that alone would make this a great picture book for little girls. The quotes taken from so many different sources are inspiring and uplifting.

This should be mandatory reading for every woman! Every possible aspect of life, religion, love and loss is covered. There is a very real sense of support and honesty that anyone can relate to at any point in her life.

The book itself is set up like a textbook: Divided into several sections and in those sections divided again by situation with a description of what you are going to read. After each section there is an exercise to help you reflect over what you read.

The section in titled Uncomfortable Fit I believe is my favorite and something I have read and re-read. Just realizing that other women share my views on sex and love empowers me. Despite I growing up in a strict Catholic home, I have always felt open and honest about my sexuality and that (gasp) I enjoy sex. I am also not a size six, but I am comfotable with my body and I feel good about who I am and how I look. Being able to read what other women have to say, not always agreeing, but seeing a different point of view helps me to rejoice in being a woman.

If you are an educator you are wondering what new computing and communication technology will mean for what you are doing. This book is a great way to see a whole bunch of projects exploring lots of angles you haven't thought of. It's especially interesting because it comes from the Open University, an institution whose goals are similar enough to yours to be relevant, but whose approach is really, really different. There's plenty of blue-skies vision here, but almost every chapter draws on real deployment experience. Along the way you learn a lot about the Open University context as well as about the technology. The companion website, which you can find starting from the home page of the Knowledge Media Institute at the Open University, gives access to various demos as well as background material.

I'm currently a sabbatical visitor at the Open University, because I wanted to learn about all this. The book is definitely the next best thing to visiting.

An honest look at leadership. Why most people really never change the employees they lead. A FAST MOVING ,QUICK READ WITH GREAT IDEAS.

Professionally I work with adoptive couples. This booklet is required reading for them and I also suggest that they share it with family members as well. This booklet provides the back-ground reasons for why we have openness today. It shares how it works, why it works, how it is beneficial to all involve. It doesn't sugar-coat that adoption is still built on loss and grief for all. But in understanding those losses from all points of view, healing can occur and secrecy and shame can be put to rest. This benefits the birth parents and the adoptive parents, but the child most of all. It's 21 pages of dynamite! (I would also share that I'm a birth grandmother with an open placement. We may still be in the "honeymoon" period, but so far it's been wonderful! Like any relationship, I'm sure there will be some ups and downs. Learning to deal openly with the issues will make the relationship all the stronger and more valued.)

This is a wonderful true story about a family immigrating from Holland about 100 years ago. What makes this book special is it was written for immigrants from all over the world coming to America who are learning how to speak English. It is written very simply, but does not "talk down to" the adults learning our language. It's a wonderful story in and of itself, but people learning English as a second language will appreciate and relate to some of the difficulties encountered by this courageous family.
