"Breaking Open" does exactly what it claims: Rukeyser cracks the shell. She writes to us of flight, of feminism and of famine, demonstrating her mastery of poetic techniques and her sense of justice. She dares to speak her mind, with beauty and strength.

Rukeyser has influenced modern poets from Adrienne Rich to Sharon Olds. She reinforced the idea that science and art are inextricably linked, and helped set the stage for a healthier kind of feminism. By not downplaying women's traditional roles, while also seeking wholeheartedly what once was viewed as exclusively masculine -- the land of ideas -- Rukeyser remained true to her spirit.

Breaking Open the Gospel of Mathhew ia an outstanding addition to any library. This book focuses on the Gospel of Matthew in a way that just about anyone can understand. It allows one to act as if they are conducting an interview with Matthew and questioning his reasons for writing things and what the Beatitudes really mean. This book spoke to my spiritualy deprived soul and brought out all the questions that I had about his Gospel. I also enjoyed the other three books in this series. I purchase the group to give as gifts to all my family and friends. This one is a must!

This tape is about coming to terms with feeling violated, sexually abused, losing a loved one, betrayal by a loved one, or any aspect of grief that we may encounter.

This tape helped me come to terms with the death of a loved one. This speaker makes some wonderful points (this tape is the recording of a seminar before an audience, and it is interspersed with music provided by a man playing the flute). He mentions that it is a form of violation to make people talk about things before they are ready to (i.e., trying to make people "come out of their shell"). Having spent quite a bit of time among people in recovery, I have found that this can often be the case: if people are not ready to talk about something, they must be "repressing" it and need to be given incentive to talk. This is a form of violation. Not everyone wants to talk about things at the same rate others do.

Wayne Muller makes a call for perspective. He says to keep in mind that while many of us have suffered, we have not been given Hiroshima, Aushwitz, Rwanda, etc. In Mr. Muller's words, "What did I get? ....weird parents."

The speaker suggests that rather than letting our pain and losses make us close down, we can use them to help us open up to others. Hence, the name of the tape: BROKEN OPEN. We can let a tragedy "break" us open into a deeper experience of compassion for others.

Never before has there been a reference like the Buyer's Guide to Open Water Rowing Boats. You could spend years and hundreds of dollars trying to gather this much information on contemporary rowing craft, and your collection still wouldn't equal this. There have been other guides to sliding seat rowing shells and guides to fixed seat rowing craft, but this guide gives you a broader selection of either than I've seen anywhere. This isn't the place to find flatwater racing shells. Here you'll find boats that'll permit you to row out beyond the Golden Gate Bridge or, perhaps, to another country. So, if you're tired of having to get up before dawn to complete your workout before the wind and power boaters ruffle the lake too much for your Olympic shell look-alike, get this book and check out some seaworthy boats. If you had one of these craft, you could sleep in, and the water skiers would just have to get used to skiing around you.

The words Òcapital punishmentÓ spark debate, but a good debate needs to be informed debate. Ron FridellÕs well-researched book ÒCapital PunishmentÓ might change your mind or strengthen your position, but either way you will be better informed about this hot-button issue. Through history, true crime cases, and clearly presented pro and con arguments, Fridell leaves legal and moral judgments to the reader, who after reading this book will be better prepared to enter the debate.

An excellent book for kids who get "bored" on those long (and short) road trips during the summer. The book is full of exercises for creativity and invention that will occupy kids for hours. And the book uses information on the road that allows kids to be interactive with the sights around them. I wouldn't go on another summer trip without this book!

This is an outstanding and well researched book which discusses how the Chinese higher education (University and Institute) system has modernised and developed relations with foreign education providers, particular universities. A case study analytical approach is used to add specific aspects to the book, which is one of the finest assessments of how East can work with West to the mutual benefit of both. Hayhoe combines an erudite approach with an enthusiasm and freshness for her subject which makes this a compulsive, yet academically thorough, read. Her perspective is that of an educationalist; but her analysis and overall discussion has value for researchers from other disciplines such as international marketers seeking to develop an understanding of the Chinese higher education system as a market for foreign cooperation and entry. Anyone interested in the Chinese higher education system should read this book. Similarly no university should enbteer the Chinese market without gaining an understanding of the complexities of the market, and the nature of Sino-Foreign academic cooperation as discussed in this (and other Hayhoe) books.

The recipes I've tried have all turned out perfectly - they've obviously been tested - and the directions are easy to follow. My favorites were the crabcakes, the ginger scones and the four cheese macaroni. Project Open Hand is a terrific organization that provides daily, home-delivered meals, weekly groceries and nutrition counseling to more than 5,000 men, women and children with HIV/AIDS. I bought the book because it benefits Project Open Hand, but was pleased by the recipes.
