Mind opening
This was my first full experience of Marianne Williamson. I found her inspiring ,on a very personal level. The idea that we came to this earthly place, illuminated with the light of God that IS purely love is awsome. No judgement,no guilt no proving who you are. Just Love and Light. This tape brought peace to me immediately. This women is inspired!

A must for everyone!
I had just been out of a relationship and going through hard times. In my search for true happiness, I came across this particular cassette. This cassette made me realize that true happiness lies within us and how dependent we become on other people for our happiness. I recommend this to anyone going through difficult times or not. It's a lecture that helps you find inner peace and who you really are.

EXTRAORDINARY
Few people would fail to benefit from listening to this tape. Ms. Williamson is an exceptionally gifted woman. Her skill at encouraging us as human beings to seek the best in ourselves, in others, and in this world, is remarkable. This is a tape I will listen to several times now to try and glean as many pearls of wisdom as possible - and, I will listen again periodically when my soul needs nourishment. Further, I have recommended this to friends and family... peace

A wonderful, wonderful book
This book is as true as the day it was first published. Men truly need women, as the author writes, to "socialize and civilize" them. Without the influence of women, men are left to their own devices, and become slaves to their passions, which generally results in what would be termed "anti-social" behavior. "Radical feminism" is not good for this country, or any other. Rather than trying to make the sexes "equal", we should appreciate the differences. The author notes it is these differences that make society "work". This book is a great little gem, and definitely worth your time.

Thoughtful and Concise
George Gilder's Men and Marriage thoughtfully explores how single adult males differ from married adult males in a number of different ways, from income to mental illness. While denial of nature has been in vogue over the last 25 years or so when one gets enmeshed in the age-old "nature vs nurture" debate, GG shows how it is relevant and how both genders benefit from marriage in practical and intangible ways. Marriage socializes and/or tames men and as a result their energies are channeled in a more productive manner; everyone benefits. Thought provoking and highly recommended!

Single men may go crazy if they don't get married
Single men are criminal barbarians if they don't get married. Single men don't pay the bills and don't hold down their low paying jobs. Offended yet? Gilder does have evidence to back up what he has to say, although as single man, I can't say that all the pathologies that he says I might have, apply to me. Isolation that men gravitate towards does cause loneliness and a sense that your out of the life force's loop, so to speak. And isolation leads to depression, which may lead to suicide. He says that men are happier married, although to him them talk about their wives and kids, you'd never know. If a man gets divorced, will he be worse off than when we was just single? Gilder doesn't delve into this question much. But it's nice to see someone defending marraige, which is a rarity these days. Most of the time I hear that's it's hard work or that it's tough or you shouldn't get married if you're not sure you're compatible. I even hear this from traditional Christian media that believe in marraige but doesn't sell it too well when they emphasize the problems of marraige all the time. So if anyone is happily married, I would never know. But I think marraige may become a thing of the past since more and more people are living together in unstable relationships that eventually end, often producing children as well. It is hard to get married if no one in society wants to get married anymore. He also points out that male sexuality is based on meaningless pleasure than leads to no where and does not lead him into becoming a husband and father which would give him a meaningful role in life. A man has to be pushed into this by society, for his own good, even though initially he sees this as oppressive. Society no longer does that enough to goad men into marraige. The meaningless hedonism continues. Gilder believes that the traditional sex roles uphold the the foundations of society and are not to be tampered with.

Series in Good Hands
This series has always been as much about political commentary as it has Remo and Chuin's extraordinary powers. I am glad this author has decided to bring back the satirical aspect of the series. After 115 books, it's difficult to image these stories remaining so entertaining just by sticking to the superhero storyline. This episode had a particularly funny encounter between Smith (the hero's boss) and the Womanizer In Chief. I recommend this book to anyone who has previously read this series, but has drifted away. It is also good for those of you who say the movie in the 80's and wondered who that guy was supposed to be.

PRAISE BE UNTO YOU CHUIN
ONCE AGIAN MASTER CHUIN,MASTER REMO YOU HAVE CAPTIVATED AND TRANPORTED ME TO YOUR WORLD OF HUMOR AND HONESTY THAT I FEEL BOTH ENTHRALLED AND DELIGHTED IN TELLING YOU THAT YOUR PERFORMANCE IN THIS WORK JUST "MAKES MY DAY".

excellent reading from start to finish......
I have been reading this selection since early 70's. A change in creators has changed the contents of the books every little, still a excellent adventure in reading.....

A Triumph of Memory, a Tempest of Imagination
Smiling ghosts of Mark Twain and Jack Kerouac hover over many pages of Michael Keith's "The Next Better Place." This captivating book places Keith squarely in the same row with America's finest writers of the road adventure story. Which is to say that "The Next Better Place" is so much more than a memoir-cum-novel of a precocious son traversing America's great expanses with an ageing picaro of a father. Keith knows when to embroider his book's perfectly intoned dialogue, tremulous details, and charming teenage bravado with both lyrical pathos and hints at the perverse. The greatest American road novel, Vladimir Nabokov's "Lolita," also came to mind as I devoured Keith's book, and I can only hope that Keith will soon reward his readers with another one.

Sadly overlooked masterpiece
This is a gentle yet tightly written account, both more poetic and thoughtful than the okay but over-hyped Running With Scissors. Really amazing work coming from a writer who has apparently limited himself previously to technical books about the media .

the next better place
I ENJOYED THIS BOOK VERY MUCH,HOWEVER I'M A LITTLE CONFUSED ABOUT MR. KEITH'S DATES. HE SAYS THESE EVENTS TOOK PLACE IN 1959, WHEN HE WAS 11 YEARS OLD. HOWEVER ON THE "AUTHORS NOTE" PAGE IT GIVES HIS YEAR OF BIRTH AS 1945, WHICH WOULD HAVE MADE HIM 14 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME OF THESE EVENTS. ALSO HE MENTIONS SEVERAL TIMES THE SONG FROM THE MOVIE "THE MAGNIFICANT 7". HOWEVER THAT MOVIE WASNT RELEASED TILL THE EARLY 1960'S. NO BIG DEAL. JUST BAD PROOF READING BY THE PUBLISHERS.

A Wonderful, Wise Reference Guide thats Works!
It is so helpful to have a book that is designed for easy access to a specific topic of concern. I bought this book for some school concerns that we were having with our grade-schoolers. Many of the major hot-button isuues are covered in this book that were of current interest to me. I have found the suggestions and specific steps to correct the behavior to be sensible and for the most part easy to implement; we have already seen positive changes in the homework and school behavior of our two sons (ages 9 and 11). Additionally, we as parents are yelling, nagging, threatening, and complaining much less and that feels so good as far as the general ambiance in our home. On a good day, we seem to have found a few more minutes of 'hanging out' down time together as a family. Another book we highly recommend that we have been using with our 2 and 4 year old is The Pocket Parent. This book is also an A-Z compedium of worrisome behaviors with many sanity saving suggestions that have also worked well for us. I like both quick-read reference books becasue they include very specific strategies of what you might say and do to change the undesirable, often annoying behavior. Both have a sense of humor and compassion throughout, and they are both reasonably priced.

Lots To Cover
This book covers a lot and is written where it is quite easy to digest. Her tone is similar to other favorite authors of mine and this always seems to keep me reading. Also recommended, Mommy-CEO, by Jodie Lynn. I received both books as gifts and they are a must have for every household who want to finally get cooperation and peace back in the house and love back in the relationship with your kids - and hubby too.

You Can Do It!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. From the moment I opened this book, I felt as if it was written for me. Now, my children don't even come close to exhibiting all the behaviors covered in this book, but the author has given me the skills and set the tone through realistic strategies and step-by-step recommendations that will serve me well for years to come. I have even given copies of No More Misbehavin' to my parents and in-laws. Now we are definitely (and finally!) on the same page.

Dark secrets
When a man presents himself at the home of William Trenchard and his wife Catherine, claiming to be Sir James Davenall, the long-thought dead fiancee of Catherine, it proved to be the first link in a long and convoluted chain of events. James had supposedly drowned himself upon discovering that he had inherited syphillis from his father. After the disappearance, his father refused to believe him dead and, even after the obligatory 7 years absence, would not have him declared legally dead. After the father dies, James's younger brother Hugo becomes baronet in his place and is therefore horrified to learn of the challenge to his new found wealth and position. Richard Davenall, sousin to James and Hugo and also the family solicitor, is put in the invidious position of having to deny the claims of the recently reappearing James or of helping him to prove his rightful place in the family. I found this to be a terrific read, full of twists, turns and with red herrings galore!

Unfamiliar British Writer Who Hides His Light Under a Bush
I discovered Robert Goddard by accident when I took a random choice book (Caught in the Light by Robert Goddard)off the shelf in my local library about three months ago. Since then, I have devoured everything I can find that he has written. He takes a fairly simple story and weaves events and characters into his tale which keep the reader fascinated until the very last page.It turns out that one has read, in fact, a wonderful mystery story in the true sense of the word. Why is there not more publicity about the author? Do his books have large sales? A new reader only has to read his/her first Goddard novel and they are hooked forever. A modern Trollope whom the world should know more about.

Read Nonstop On A Long Road Trip
I couldn't put this book down, dying to know the truth about whether this man was the one who supposedly killed himself years earlier or an imposter. What really made this book was that the chapters alternated between a first person point-of-view and a third person point-of-view. I previously thought it was impossible to pull off shifting point-of-views in a novel but this one proved to be the total exception. It was an experiment that was an unqualified success. All writers should also read this book to explore the outter reaches of creative possibilites open to them.

The Mick/2-Audio Cassettes/20161
Published in Audio Cassette by Newman Communications (July, 1986)
Author: Mickey Mantle

The Mickster
Mickey Mantle grew up in small town in the Kansas, Oklahoma line area. As Mickey would say "Indian territory". Mickey's father had a passion for baseball and started Mickey off at an early age. This is where he learned to switch hit. As a young man he met a woman named Merlyn. They met at a friend's house one night and asked her out. "We were together ever since then", said Mickey. Mickey was brought up to the Yankees with a series of lucky events. Scouts would be looking at other players and noticed that Mickey was the one who stood out. Mickey was first suited up in 1951, he was just a kid. Mickey started a habit with drinking on the off seasons. Mickey said he never really got to know his own family. Mickey's father died a few years into his career. This was a huge blow. His 18 year career was played with many injuries. He'd be known for playing injured on most occasions. Behind his award-winning career, Mickey said that the most important award to him was the Most Valuable Player award. "This award let you know that you were the best player in baseball for that year", he had said. In 1969, Mickey said goodbye to baseball. Baseball had treated him good and it was time for him to leave. Mickey said it was the worst day of his life except for the day his dad died. His baseball was all Mickey knew. He slowly walked away from baseball, but he had a short announcing career that wasn't for Mickey even though he saw his close friends become very good at it.
Mickey would tell you many stories about the past and good times with his friends. The jokes they play with each other and late nights spent at the bars. Mickey seemed to be a person that i'd get along with. Mickey would also tell stories about the Yankee players and give you a little insight on the team. He told each person their strengths and weaknesses. He would talk about old pals and what kind of trouble they'd get themselves into and they'd find a way to get themselves out.
There wasn't much that I didn't like about the book. I thought on some subjects he wouldn't get into too much detail and it felt like he left you hanging. He also would go back in time and go ahead and confuse you.
This book was one of the best books that I ever read. I also love the game of baseball and look up to players like Mickey Mantle. You hear stories about ball players and they sound almost as good as hearing it from the man himself. I enjoyed reading about Mickey and if you're a baseball lover, like me, you'll love this book. If you like sports this is also a good book and if you're a Yankees fan, you'll be sure to like this book too.

The Mick
"The Greatest Player on The Greatest Team In Baseball"
He was the country boy from Commerce, Oklahoma, who had to replace the great Joltin' Joe DiMaggio. In his career spanning two decades, Mickey Mantle hit 536 home runs, won three MVP awards, and won the Triple Crown in 1956. He played in 20 All Star Games and was inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame. But Mickey Mantle not only hit tape measure home runs, he played even while he was in great physical pain. Mickey always gave 110 % and around him a Yankee dynasty was built...

touching book on the baseball life of Mickey
this book reminds me of the good old days of baseball where nothing mattered but baseball, and you had stars like Mantle, Maris, DiMaggio, Aaron, Killebrew, Kaline, Drysdale, Koufax, Berra, and Whitey Ford to name a few.
the book, The Mick, talks about the entire baseball life of Mickey Charles Mantle, to hero and baseball legend.

the book begins with how Mickey's dad brought him up around baseball and how his father taught him to become a switch hitter. Mickey talks about girls, booze, and other fun stuff he did while playing ball for Joplin and the Yankees.

when you read this book, you almost feel like you're there with Mickey when this stuff is happening. you're there when he hits a 536 foot homer, or when he busted his knee in the World Series. you know how he feels when he says he hated to play against Dodger great, Sandy Koufax, and you know what his emotions were like once he retired from the game that he says was the only thing he knew how to do.

you learn about Casey Stengel and how he really cared for and pushed for Mickey to be a great player.

great book on the baseball life of Mickey Mantle. i recommened this book highly to anyone who likes baseball or to anyone who wants to read about the baseball life of The Mick.

A Good Read At Any Age
In The Moon Lady, Amy Tan author of The Joy Luck Club and The Bonesetter's Daughter, presents a small tale for young children which adults will also enjoy. Focusing on a story set in China, Tan brings her wealth of knowledge about China and its folktales as well as her love for this country and its traditions. In addition, the illustrations by Gretchen Schields add a wonderful dimension to the story since readers can also visualize the tale by viewing these pictures.

On a rainy day as grandchildren whine that they can't play outside their grandmother tells them a tale based on her own experiences as a child. Using this method Tan provides an allegorical tale concerning children and their wishes. Telling the children of her wishes as a young girl, Ying Ying tells the children a story about her own wishes at the times of the Moon Festival. And as all folk tales provide, Tan is adept at providing her readers with an adventurous tale compete with the mysterious Moon Lady and a moral to the story.

This is a good book for young children who cannot only learn about the Chinese culture but the saying "Be careful what you wish for." I also recommend this book at any age since it is also important to remember this as we move on in life.

Happy Chinese New Year!
To be honest, this book is reminiscent of a certain chapter in Amy Tan's other book, "Joy Luck Club". In fact, the whole story is lifted from the mentioned novel, and loosely edited to create an entirely detached story for children. But, the whole bit about Nai-nai telling the story was probably the only drastic change. I've no complaints about it though, as a lighter tone seems to be induced in this version, which is (yes) perfect for children, as compared to the more melancholy tone produced in "Joy Luck Club". As a Chinese myself, and having a younger brother and a few kid relatives, I find this book to also be educational with the respect of reintroducing a familiar yet distant tradition to them. Through this wonderfully crafted story which is set at a (Chinese/Lunar) New Year Festival in the bygone days of China, children are taught to find themselves and their loved ones through a series of journeys to undertake and overcome. The great artwork is a bonus. Of course, a better understanding of the background of the legendary moon lady wouldn't do any harm. Still, read the "Joy Luck Club" to get a bigger picture of the story's presence. It's not in the movie.

Read to Your Child to Develop Bonding and Intellect!
Researchers constantly find that reading to children is valuable in a variety of ways, not least of which are instilling a love of reading and improved reading skills. With better parent-child bonding from reading, your child will also be more emotionally secure and able to relate better to others. Intellectual performance will expand as well. Spending time together watching television fails as a substitute.

To help other parents apply this advice, as a parent of four I consulted an expert, our youngest child, and asked her to share with me her favorite books that were read to her as a young child. The Moon Lady was one of her picks.

Adapted from Amy Tan's best selling book, The Joy Luck Club, The Moon Lady is a perfect book for encouraging children to read with and talk to their grandmother. The book also very subtly encourages children to take more responsibility for their own lives. The story provides a model for parents and grandparents for how to create their own stories to help children learn important lessons.

The story begins as three girls, Maggie, Lily and June, are bored because they have to stay in on a rainy day and can think of nothing that they want to do. Their grandmother, Nai-nai, is with them. Nai-nai tells them a story about when she was a young girl in China, and she ran and shouted and could not stand still also.

The story is about the day she told the Moon Lady her secret wish. Then unfolds a wonderful story of a young girl's adventure on a special trip to see the Moon Lady. Along the way, she sees many things she has not seen before, falls overboard, is rescued by a fishing family, and finds her family again after meeting the Moon Lady. In the process, she has one of those epiphanies that make all of our lives better -- that she is in charge of creating her own future.

The story is filled with references to family bonding and what is and is not proper behavior. The story also shows what family life was like for a somewhat well-to-do Chinese family in China at the beginning of the 20th century. These references are made all the more realistic by a wonderful series of drawings by Gretchen Schields with bright colors, beautiful detail, and authentic depictions of the China of years ago. It's almost like living a beautiful dream.

Then Nai-nai takes her granddaughters out to dance in the moon after the story is over.

Of all the children's books I have read, I place this one in the top ten for the 4-8 age category.

A central problem for many children today is that too much television, too many structured activities, and too little free time leave them feeling lost when nothing is on the agenda. Our misconception is that they need regimented lives like those that soldiers lead to fulfill their potential. This book will encourage you to readdress that misconception, and focus on how to make your children more competent in thinking about others, being more independent, and designing their own beneficial activities. That is all very important to actually unleashing their full potential. When you are done, think about how perhaps your own life needs a little improvement along these same lines.

Enjoy!

murray's Blacklight
If you have ever read Marcenkos high on myself, I'm just marvelous stories, this series is a breath of fresh air. With a genuine talent for writting dialog, Murray tells a great story where we actually like the characters with the flow not slowing as gun barrels cool. Action sequences add to the readers enjoyment, but the story is what keeps the book in your hands.

AWESOME & ACTION PACKED
I am not really into "military" books, but this one was fantastic. I loved the development of each of the characters and the situations they came across. I have now since read the entire series and I am hooked. I am waiting for a new one and I hope this time there is a female hero!!

Action from start to finish
I'm impressed w/ the author's use of description. I've never been in the military and am not familiar with the weapons, training and slang used in most action books. I appreciate Mr. Murray's ability to explain what is going on and who is doing what for a reader, like me, with limited knowledge.

Good book, good use of women on the team and was glad to see Getts and Peach back in action.

The villian was so thoroughly evil that I was surprised when the team did not make sure he was dead prior to exiting the castle.

Perhaps in another book, we'll see Getts learn the true identity of the Rabbi.

Short but Enjoyable audio cassette recording!
I liked this audio cassette recording of Dorothy Garlock's Nightrose even though it was abridged and very short I really enjoyed listening to this romance story of Katy Burns and Garrick Rowe but I just didn't find this to be a keeper!

Another wonderful story...
Another excellent Garlock book!! Rowe and Katy are a charming combination, as are Mary and Hank.

In the hard times of the frontier era, what would happen to two women and a little girl that are abandoned in a town, when all the treasure-seeking gold miners desert in search of more riches? With only a small derringer, how can the women protect themselves? They won't be able to stay in the abandoned town forever, and they are sure to face problems trying to get to another town.

When the mysterious bearded stranger comes into the abandoned town, along with his dog, the girls are not sure what to think of him at first. The stranger, Rowe, bought the town, with plans to bring it back to life... and a mysterious connection with Katy, knocks him off his feet.

When some drifters come into town, and Rowe witnesses them murder one of their riders, it's up to him to protect the women. From this moment on, Ms. Garlock creates one hurdle after another for these characters, and they get closer and closer as they overcome each and every one of them.

If you read Ms. Garlock's story, Midnight Blue, then you'll be pleased to read about the appearance of Pack and Mara Shannon Gallagher, and get an update on their lives. Also from Midnight Blue, is a short appearance of Mara Shannon's villain cousin, Cullen McCall. Nevertheless, if you haven't read Midnight Blue, you won't be missing anything, as Ms. Garlock provided everything you needed to know about these people, for the short appearance they made in this book.

Fabulous!
This is another great book by Dorothy Garlock! From the minute Rowe meets Katy he knows that they were meant to be together. Katy however distrusts all men and will not even consider the idea of marrying.

The story follows Rowe's (sometimes hilarious) attempts to court Katy. As in all great Garlock books, there are several interesting side stories, including one involving Katy's sister and niece. Definitly recommended!
