Another great chapter in the Walk Across Ameria
The Walk West is a worthy follow-up to A Walk Across America. Cooper is missed in this book, but Barbara, Peter's new wife makes up for it. Both of these books are a constant reminder of all the truely wonderful people here in our wonderful country. It seemed that every time either Peter or Barbara was down, someone always seemed to be there to rescue them. From food to shelter and water, the people of America came thru with flying colors.

Many stories in this book follow some of the couples longer stops on their trip. The people they meet all have a story to tell and some are better than others, but they all seem to have a big heart.

This book was written over 20 years ago, but I believe it still shows how great the USA truely is. For those who have lost faith, read this book! I bet you'll have a hard time putting it down and will cry a tear or two.

Just as good as part one!
This is a simple story of an amazing journey, narrated by a man who writes in a refreshingly open manner. Whether you enjoy walking or not, or whether you have the slightest interest in the geography or social customs of the United States, this book is written for everyone who has a desire to read a beautiful story.

In part one of his journey, Peter Jenkins walks across America in this book, with his faithful, tireless companion, his dog Cooper. The dog is an integral part of this story and almost made me go out and buy one of Cooper's breed. He is the epitome of what a dog should be, and canine lovers will adore all the little vignettes about this amazing fellow. Then Cooper dies on the journey, which caused me a few tears. Part two picks up without Cooper, and there there are setbacks, heartaches and crises along the way, but there are also some old-fashioned heartwarming moments as well. The people in the South are especially helpful to a thirsty, hungry traveler. Jenkins' stories of their hospitality is touching.

Yes, there are a few sections of the book which border almost on the mawkish and the "aw, shucks" John Denver-ish approach of the main character might seem a little dated or folksy. But I challenge the naysayers to attempt (and succeed) at what Jenkins managed to do, it's an amazing book and one which many people will read in a single evening. One note: Jenkins brings along with wife on this journey, so she sort of "picks up the slack" where Cooper leaves off. Excellent book!

The Second Part of an Awesome Story
First off, I entered my hometown wrong in my review of "A Walk across America" as Killeen, TX. My hometown is Hendersonville, TN and I am stationed in Killeen, TX. Anyway, just like I said in my first review, Peter and now Barbara both write in a way that you, the reader, are walking right beside them through the West. Peter and Barbara share with you walking in the Texas summer heat (something which I know about), the mountains in the west, and stepping into the Pacific as their adventure ended in 1979. A good book which like the first, I simply could not put down, once I started reading the book. I always wanted to know what adventure lied ahead on the next page or the next chapter. I would have to force myself to take a break from reading, the book was so good. I recommend for those with a thirst for adventure to purchase a copy of this book and also the book "A Walk Across America", and hopefully those who read both books will agree with me.

The true essence of Angels
I don't want to sound like an advertising ad but this book is without a doubt my personal favorite. It has inspiring experiences from people of all ages and their encounters with celestial beings. Truly a wonderful, wonderful book to have. For anyone who wants to learn more about God's love for us, this is the real thing.

Excellent Book!
What a beautiful tribute to the Angels in our lives! Mrs Anderson has done a marvelous job of compiling wonderful, yet believable stories about visitations by Heavenly Beings.

Heavenly!
Where Angels Walk is an unforgettable book of God's love, help and intervention in our lives through the love of His Angels. All the stories are true and unbelievably remarkable. God has told us, "Ask and ye shall receive", and that includes the asking for help for our loved ones and for ourselves.

This is a book that will renew your faith and reaffirm God's love for us. It is at the darkest times of our lives, when we feel alone and abandoned, that we are loved the most. Help is there and we just have to ask for it. As Joan Anderson says, "...that, whatever their failings, God is holding them gently in the palm of His hand."

Reading the numerous stories, you will discover that angels can take many forms and not just the heavenly beings we were taught about as children.

Read this book to renew your spirit, increase your faith and to uplift your life. You will NOT be disappointed. This book is a gem. And remember that you are loved and that miracles do indeed happen!

Reality Based Food for Thought
This is a straightforward series of reality statements that will awaken your soul.

Excellent For Maintaining Perspective
I love listening to some of the ideas on this disc right before meditation or when I retire for the evening. Dyer suggests listening to just one transforming though per day, but if you've read a few of his books then most of these thoughts you will already be familiar with. The disc then serves as an excellent reminder and will help the ideas soak into your subconscious. The background music on it is nice.

Highly inspirational and uplifting.
Highly inspirational and uplifting. Books and tapes by Dr. Wayne Dyer have inspired me to write. I am an author myself on Amazon. Full of wisdom, self-empowerment, and encouragement.

The Right Recipe!
This is the first Chicken Soup for the Soul book that I have read, having recently lost my job this past year to the economy. I can't say enough how these stories able me to keep a positive outlook and attitude on my life and career. Broken into eight convenient chapters: Love, kindness, parent and parenting, teaching and learning, death and dying, personal perspective, overcoming obstacles and eclectic wisdom. I even shared several of the Holiday stories with my family this year since Christmas was a little bare. Needless, to say that this past Christmas will stick with us more than the more past prosperous years, due largely I think to these stories that I shared. A sheer joy to read, I look forward to more books in the series!

Five stars is not enough for this book
Definitely this book deserves SIX stars, it will keep you reading from the first page till the last one, involves all the presidents of the world and even with that is an easy book to read, but here are my questions:

Why could this happened 25 years ago and not right now? I think that this book is timeless
What does the president will really do?
What does the Police, FBI and CIA among others will really do? They really know how to handle this kind of problem?
All the countries will respect the president decision?

Read this book and think about these questions.

Yard Sale Find
I paid 25 cents for this book and it was the best quarter I ever spent. This book grabs you at the beginning and does notlet go of you to well after you are done reading it. The subject matter is so topical that the 22 years from original press does not matter at all. Buy it used, find in in the library, or if you have money to burn buy it from a Zshop. You won't be disappointed.

A riveting and nail-biting tale
Readers of Frederick Forsyth, Jack Higgins and Tom Clancy must get their hands on this brilliantly written thriller of a potential nuclear catastrophe in NY city. This book seems especially plausible today and adds to the impression. The characters are believable and the plot unfolds superbly, no let-ups or loose strings! A must read for all thriller readers, you will not be disapppointed. I read this book at a stretch and it is at the top of my all-time favorites list (and I've read quite a few thrillers!)

The Wonderful Spirit-filled Life :
Published in Audio Cassette by Thomas Nelson (10 August, 1992)
Author: Charles F. Stanley
Amazon base price: $14.99
Used price: $7.50
Average review score:

Informative and Inspirational
Dr. Stanley provides insights that help a Christian to tap into the abundant life described by Jesus in the Gospels by showing them how to apply priciples that work. For example, he writes "you will enjoy exercising your gift. You will look forward to the responsibilities you are given that call on you to use your gift" (p. 137). In other words, being all that God intended you to be is an exciting adventure of discovery. It enables a person to discover who they are and the God who made them.
In making a point about God's sovereignty, Dr. Stanley notes "the Holy Spirit decides who gets which gifts" (p. 134). As a result, the person is seeking to discover what God has already put in place in his or her life. The adventure continues as one uses those gifts for the kingdom of God and His purposes.

At last! Wallking in the Spirit Explained!
The Wonderful Spirit-filled Life by Charles Stanley is one of the most important training books you can have in your private library. It's simple, clear, lucid teaching. It is NOT fanatical or extreme in its presentation of how to have a Spirit-filled walk. It is very direct. Very accurate. If you follow the basic steps, by book's end, you'll have an empowered Christian life. As a Charismatic, there are a few doctrinal points Stanley made that I don't agree with. However, they were not large enough to deter me from growing through this book, nor ordering extra copies to give away. Overall, a very balanced presentation that can take you to a deeper walk with the Master.

Very informative book about God's Holy Spirit
I bought this book for two main reasons. First, I want to know more about the Holy Spirit, and the role it has in my Christian walk. Second, I have heard Charles Stanley preach before, and he seems like a reliable source for helping further my Christian development. This book confirmed both my reasons.

In his book Dr. Stanley does an outstanding job of explaining how the Holy Spirit works in our lives. Although I do not agree with all of his conclusions about the Holy Spirit (most specifically when he talks about the limited availability of speaking in tongues for all Christians), overall, I think this book is right on target. Whether you are a new Christian, or have walked with God for years, I think that this book can help bring new light to a subject that is often misunderstood.

Using a lot of scriptures, and his extensive research on the subject, Dr. Stanley has greatly increased my understanding of the Holy Spirit. I liked the book because he offers a lot of practical advice about seeking God's Holy Spirit. I really enjoyed the fact that Dr. Stanley shares his own struggle with grasping everything that the Holy Spirit has to offer us as Christians. I think that many Christian leaders in his position would perhaps be too proud to discuss their own journey towards a greater understanding of God's spirit. Lastly, I think that this book has helped further my quest for knowledge about the Holy Spirit. Dr. Stanley includes a list of the resources he used while writing the book, at the end of each chapter which will serve as an excellent guide for me in the future.

I highly recommend this book to any believer who is wanting to learn more about the Holy Spirit. If you are like me, you want to learn the truth from a reliable source. I think this book will meet your need, if that is your desire.

Jeff Watts Review
I thought the book expressed rasism and reality about the world as it was during their time. These issues were a concern to Jim and Huck but in actualality Huck never realized that Jim was being treated unfairly. This lets us learn that racism cannot go on and that it needs to change during our time. That is why the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was an outstanding novel for kids to read.

Superb!
I never thought I'd be around long enough to experience a performance of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as successful as this by Patrick Fraley. I've lived with this text for over 40 years and thought I knew it well. But listening to Fraley has made me discover new dimensions, increasing greatly my already enormous appreciation of Clemens' masterful work. Listening to Fraley read "Mark Twain" is almost as much a pleasure as listening to Miriam Margolyes read Charles Dickens. "It don't get no better than that."

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
As you might have already known, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" is one of Mark Twain's classics. It was written based on Mark Twain's best friend when he was a child. I have written a review on it because I think this book should not be forgotten.

Huckleberry Finn is only fourteen when he runs away from his brutal father........
Yet another one of Mark Twain's classics, Huckleberry Finn amazed me with its plot. On the previous book about Tom Sawyer, comes Huckleberry Finn; Tom's best friend.
Young Huckleberry Finn was adopted by a widow and all was going quite well until the footsteps Huck saw on the snow...... The footsteps on the snow were in the way that his father always leaves behind. So, this means that Huck's cruel father has come back! The six thousand dollars Tom and Huck found in the previous book was safe in the bank but not anymore. Now that Huck's father is back, he wouldn't leave until he got the money.
Huck's father has tried many ways to get Huck's money but fails every time. Soon, Huck's father captures Huck and locks him inside a wooden cabin in the woods. Huck's father now wanted both his son and his money.....
Luckily, before long Huck plans an outstanding escape to Jackson Island and meets up with an old runaway slave; Jim. There, the two starts an amazing trip down the great Mississippi river. They're destination is freedom, Cairo; where Jim could be free. Unfortunately, while traveling on the river both of them meets many strangers and must outwit them to stay uncaught and alive.

This book is highly recommended for those who thirst for excitement, action and adventures. The plot in this story is indescribable; it's full of breath-taking adventures and the way that Mark Twain could describe the feelings of a child is unbelievable.
This book would be a perfect book back in the days Mark Twain wrote it; however, the slang in this book might be hard to follow for people nowadays. Even though that the slang he used might confuse us, the writing in this book is still excellent and would be recommended.
Even though that I judge this a good book, I do feel that once in a while the book would suddenly skip from one adventure to the other. Overall, I do think that this book is worth reading and I would give this book; five "Stars". (See the rating chart below for more details)
If you compare Mark Twain's previous book; Tom Sawyer with Huckleberry Finn, I would say that Huckleberry Finn contains much more action, adventure and excitement. However, if you like more of psychology and more of a calmer plot, Tom Sawyer would be a better book for you. However, my final recommendation would be for you to read Huckleberry Finn as it is fit for the whole family to read and enjoy.
If you have already read this book and liked it, I would also recommend you reading

The author of this book, Mark Twain was a famous writer and had many other jobs as well. Mark Twain was a very superstitious person since that he was born on the day that Halley's Comet was passing the earth and died when it returned. Mark Twain's actual name was Samuel Lang-Horne Clemens, he was born and raised in the state of Missouri. His father died when he was only twelve and so he left school to earn a living. He traveled around America as a journeyman printer. Later, Samuel went back to the Mississippi river to be a steamboat pilot. During the Civil War, steam boating was put to an end forcing Samuel to join the Confederate army. However, he soon extracted himself from it and became an extremely successful journalist.
He was sent to the Mediterranean to do a series of articles after the war. This inspired him to be a writer and so he started to write books about his childhood which made him a fortune.

More fun than Oprah
After reading some of the heavy-duty-mind-expanding-womanly books a la Oprah, I needed some mental reading relief. My mother gave me this book and said, " Read something without thinking about it!" So I did and my mind was freed and I am now ready to start Vegas Heat! Map of the World will have to wait!

Another family saga -- with the Colemans?
I'll admit it -- I was suckered into getting VEGAS RICH because of the name Coleman. I thought to myself, "Is Fern Michaels creating an alternate history for the Coleman family, this time in Vegas?" I was half right -- there are Colemans involved, but not the ones I thought I would see from her TEXAS series. No, this deals with Sallie Coleman, Seth Coleman's younger sister, and her quest to make something of herself, thanks to the kindness of one of her clients -- Sallie's a prostitute, you see, in the early 1920s in the small and dusty town of Las Vegas. It's an interesting premise and I'll give credit to Michaels for creating Sallie's story and where her life goes from there. Had I never read her TEXAS series, I might have been completely drawn in...but I'm not. Michaels starts to occasionally drop in "crossovers" with the Colemans of Texas, and it's there I have the problem. Suddenly, Agnes Ames (Billie Ames Coleman's mother), companion to the callous Seth Coleman, has a heart! Billie Coleman flies out to see Fanny Coleman (Sallie's daughter-in-law) frequently! Sallie helps out Coleman Enterprises with her money! These intersections with the TEXAS characters don't pan out in terms of complimenting the TEXAS novels in the continuity department -- and for me, that's a glaring error. Those problems aside, it's a fair first novel for Michaels in her new series. If you like family sagas and Fern Michaels, you'll be content.

A Great, Entertaining and Fast Read
I really enjoyed reading this first in the series of three family saga books. Fern Michaels does an excellent job of pulling you into the story. It's nearly impossible to put this book down...it is packed with new dilemmas, and you can't wait to see how they turn out. I just started the second in the series, and I know I will have to read all three so I know the lives of all of these characters will turn out OK. Finally, the writing style is very easy (but interesting) to read, so you move along quickly.

Advice across generations
"Way to Be!: Nine Ways to Be Happy and Make Something of Your Life" is by Gordon B. Hinckley and has a foreword by Steve Young. This is basically an advice book directed towards young people. The text is structured around 9 "Be's": Be Grateful, Smart, Involved, Clean, True, Positive, Humble, Still, and Prayerful.

Although Hinckley has risen to the position of President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (i.e. the Mormon church), the book has virtually no Mormon-specific content. Nevertheless, the book does have a Christian-specific orientation, so while Hinckley seems to go beyond the Mormon community to embrace a Catholic and Protestant Christian readership, non-Christians may find some of the book's content to be a subtle barrier.

Religious orientation aside, the book does include commonsense advice. I found the text most interesting when Hinckley, who was born in 1910, talks about his early life. He paints a vivid and appealing portrait of his boyhood and young manhood in the early 20th century.

Yes, at times Hinckley sounds grouchy and ranting, and some of his advice seems vague and disconnected with contemporary events. But overall the book is enjoyable and interesting--at times it's genuinely inspiring.

It's worth your time.
This book is very simple and it's a quick read (you can finish it in an afternoon). It's also fun and inspires without being preachy or using guilt. The heartfelt suggestions encourage one to simply be a better person and the themes are memorable. It's worth your time.

Great Book
This is the perfect book for our family with 15 grandchildren. We gave a copy to every one of them and it is referred to daily. What wonderful direction for youth (and adults) in a very confusing world. Thanks to Gordon B. Hinckley. dd

3 1/2 - Not as good as Tey
It's apparent by reading the other reviews that the previous reviewers enjoyed this book more than I did. I give it 3 1/2 because I do think it was enjoyable read, but I can't say it will last with me for a long time. I feel this is a replica or imitation of Josephine Tey's "The Daughter of Time". That book was superb in the fact that it was a unique concept of solving a past mystery and due to the context in World History of the mystery itself. I highly recommend that book. This is the first Morse book I have read, and while I found the characters of the story interesting I can't say that I found the mystery that riveting. I just didn't find the solution that compelling. If you are already a fan of the Inspector Morse novels, I am sure that you will probably enjoy this story & I am clearly in the minority rating it as low as 3 1/2 stars. If you are looking for a intriguing mystery involving history, you should read "Daughter of Time".

Couldn't put it down, even though I'd seen the TV version!
I bought and read this book to study Dexter's style, even though I'd seen the TV adaptation of this same story. I'd anticipated that I probably wouldn't read the whole book through, since I already knew the basic plot. However, I was so fascinated by the way in which Dexter weaves his story that I simply couldn't put it down! As someone who aspires to write fiction that spans multiple time periods, I was intrigued by the way in which Dexter contrives to have his present-day protagonist solve a nineteenth century crime. Some of the plot developments are perhaps a little optimistic, but it is fiction, after all! Dexter demonstrated with this novel that he could conjure up not only an authentic England of the late twentieth century, but also that of earlier times (and I say that as an expatriate Englishman). Certain of Dexter's writing preferences might not pass muster in amateur "Creative Writing" circles in the US: so I wonder who knows best?! I agree with the reviewer who complained about the weak title, but nobody should allow that minor issue to deter them from this riveting mystery.

It just goes to show, you can't keep a good detective down.
Even when ill, Morse proves that great things come to those who apply themselves. Morse is indeed cranky and ill-tempered; but he tends to succeed where the system tends to fail. Inspite of the misgivings Lewis (who insists upon being a nerd) insists upon wallowing in, Morse teaches him a few valuable lessions. This book is a good read and well worth the effort.
