Outstanding!Elizabeth Goudge is my favorite author, and this is one of my favorites by her. If you like Rosamunde Pilcher you will love Goudge! This book was written during the war (WWII), and takes place during the same time period. It was so interesting to read, knowing that the author was in the midst of that horrible event, not knowing how it would end. Like all of her stories, it is filled with love and the eternal optimism of the human spirit.

.." Many Happy Trails"...sunset in El Dorado...A precursor of sound bites, Frances Octavia, (born Oct 31,1912 in TX)changed her name to "Evans" because it sounded more euphonious...easier for announcers use on radio. "Queen of the West" wrote more than dozen books, including "Angel Unaware"..on their daughter,Robin, who died of Down Syndrome, in '52. She joins & now rides, on "Buttermilk", with Roy,& Trigger...over the Rainbow..in the great Western Sky. Let us all recall: "Don't Fence Me In".

Another excellent English mysteryThis is the sixth in a series of mysteries set in Kent, England, and featuring the detective work of Inspector Luke Thanet. In this book, when a young man is found dead in his apartment, killed with a blow from a blunt instrument, it is up to Inspector Thanet to find out who killed him, and why. Examining the comings and goings around that apartment leaves the inspector with no end of suspects. One person did this deed, but who is that person?
As with the other Dorothy Simpson books I have read, this one has a fiendishly complicated plot. There's more than one mystery here, and you are drawn along, all the way to the finale trying to figure out who did it. This is another excellent English mystery, one that I highly enjoyed, and highly recommend to you!

Great mixture of history, adventure and tragedy.I highly recommend this book to all who like to read about toll ships and see adventures.
Painstakingly, masterfully written, book embraces detailed description of whaling ships and their role in making many Nantuckers rich, as well as many aspects of human life during the "golden" era of whaling for oil industry. But not only this.
We have many historical details about early Pacific navigations and about competition for dominance in this region between France, Britain and Americans.
We will learn with fascination how white sailors encountered first time and clashed with other cultures and tribes of Pacific islands; also, how the toll ships were build on Nantucket Island at the beginning of the 19th century and who was involved in those projects.
And of course the main theme - gruesome events on the deck of the "Globe" and on the Mili atoll (Marshall islands), where two cultures met suddenly by surprise and got stunned - beautifully woven into the whole text.
Masterpiece, Mr. Gibson, no doubt. It should be considered as continuation of "In the Heart of the Sea".

Great adventure! This serie is about four teenagers and a dog who encounter adventures everywhere they go. It is the ultimate teen fantasy because these guys are on their own under the permission of their parents, traveling through England on their summer vacations, staying in cool places (such as castles, mansions, farms, open country, deserted islands, etc.) while defeating bandits and thiefs. The personalities of each character are very defined and the guest characters are equally awesome. It is a great light reading and an encouraging book to make children and teenagers read.

Belongs beside Strunk & White in a writer's libraryMr. Kilpatrick, like E. B. White, is a grammarian and a sometimes comedian. Fine Print is written in a pleasantly light vein, yet it speaks with strong authority on the do's and don't's of the written language. Best of all, it contains an alphabetical list of commonly confused words, and words whose meanings are quite close but not identical - the fine points we would all do well to pay more attention to. I recommend it highly - for instruction to be sure, but for entertainment as well.
