Nice Essays
I gave up reading Richard Carlson's "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff About Money" (formerly titled "Don't Worry, Make Money"), but only because I have other books that I'd rather be reading right now. Carlson's book consists of 100 short sermons about getting along in life, and it's all good stuff. Most of the lessons are obvious from their titles: Express Your Gratitude Toward Others; Think BIG!; Ask for What You Want; Charge What You Are Worth; Think About Purple Snowflakes; etc. Each is backed up with an anecdote and a bit of explanation. (OK, "Purple Snowflakes" is about being different when you need to get someone's attention -- such as taping your message to a football and mailing that, to make sure your letter will be noticed and opened.) I particularly liked Lesson 15, "Remind Yourself that Your Life Begins Now," in which Carlson points out that a ship's wake does not power or steer the vessel. We have momentum, of course -- and other constraints -- but it's up to us to decide each day in which direction to steer. If this sort of thing inspires you, Carlson's bibliography of 29 similar positive-thinking book may be of use. Or look for his other six Don't Sweat the Small Stuff titles. Good advice, all of it. The more seriously you take it, the more it will benefit you.

Genius
This book has been incredibly useful. I now recommend it to everyone for personal and business uses. The insight it provides is unmistakebly worth every penny and the gas to go and get it!

good overview of investing options
"Low Risk Investing" provides loads of factual information about the various investing options available to individuals. It provides clear discussions of all reasonable investing choices- equity investments(stocks, real estate) and debt investments(CDs, bonds, ...)- and tax considerations and portfolio fit. Unlike many other books I've read on investing, this book is mostly an objective discussion of the investing options and does not have all that much advice- but you can gain valuable info from this book. The only drawback is that now, in 2000, the book doesn't have ROTH IRA info or new tax info, but as a first book the read on investing, this is a good choice.

Great Overview of the Wide variety of "Safe" investments.
This book goes through about 30 different types of low-risk investments and explains the pros and cons for each. I have this book from the library but I am buying it today to keep as an excellent reference guide for the future. This book is a great help for a person who is confused about all the low-risk choices out there. Dr. Kevin Grold

It is NOT bad
I read it. It is not bad , but no real benefit

Great Book, practical & intelligent
The Glossbrenners have really lived the research that went into this book. They offer tips and advice like you would get from a consultant - because they are consultants. But they also understand marketing, people, and who to write clearly. This is not a group of characteristics you find in the same author/authoring pair every day, particularly in the hi-tech area

A limited view of Christian stewardship
23 'Model Sermons on Money and Possessions', nearly all by North American Presbyterians and of limited interest to anyone outside that continent. The Preface hints at an understanding of stewardship in terms of consumerism, haves and have-nots, refugee problems, disease, sanitation and starvation and one hoped for a new grasp of Christian stewardship with a wider agenda and touching environmentalist issues. But, alas, no! We are still predominantly in the North American church with its Stewardship Sunday and the crucial importance of renewing the annual pledge.

Alec Gilmore, University of Sussex

Great sermons on a useful subject
I am part of the group of pastors whose sermons make up this book. Our group has been meeting annually for almost ten years to share exegetical papers on passages of scripture to be used in preaching during the coming year. We decided to share the wealth with the production of this book.

In addition to contributions from regular members of our group, sermons on stewardship by professors of homiletics Fred Craddock, Tom Long, Tom Troeger also are included.

I have read the galley proofs, and whether read for inspiration, preached "as is" or used as background for original sermons and lessons, I think readers will find significant help in this volume for thinking through issues related to stewardship.

Christianity-centered money smarts, if that's what you want
Prospective buyers should be aware this book contains fantastic information on money management for teens and young adults and that it also contains a chapter--a serious chapter--on tithing and the gospel behind it, and that some of the chapter review questions have more to do with what the Bible says about money management than what a financial advisor would tell you.

Cutting-Up in the Kitchen: The Butcher's Guide to Saving Money on Meat and Poultry

Mysteries of meat cuts revealed!
What part of the animal does the London Broil come from? Anyone who has been frustrated trying to decipher the marketing nomenclature of the meat industry will appreciate Merle's straightforward and frank explanations. Hailing from the U.S. heartland and practicing his trade in California, Merle shows himself to be a knowledgable butcher with a knack for writing in a conversational style. The writing is puncuated by clear line drawings of carcasses and cuts that aid the exposition, as well as other drawings that bring out the romance of meat. A few B/W photographs illustrate the difference between Prime and other US Grades of meat. I've looked for similar information in many other cookbooks without success. My only criticism is that the text does not refer directly to figures. Rather they are dropped on the page and one must guess which figure relates to what part of the text.

MCSE & MCSD Exam Cram Display Bin: Cash in on the Bestselling Exam Cram Money Machine!

It is a good set of books to prepare for the exam
By far the best preparation for MCSD & MCSE exam available. In the books the test questions tell you why the answer is correct but also why the other options are wrong, which I think is very helpful. It is just like taking a class for such kind of exams which normally are very expensive. The Microsoft books tend not to go into enough detail - but are a good introduction. I also used other exams preparation material - but this is the best yet. But if they have CD-Rom, it will be better.

From a non-economist
I used the book, particularly Eichengreen's chapter on modern perspectives, for a scholarly article I am writing. My field is speech communication rather than economics, and it seemed like a reasonably coherent book to me.
