Perfect if you're not quite ready for vegetarian!
My husband's cholesterol is through the roof!!! So we both decided we wanted to try going without red meat for a while. I looked into a lot of vegetarian cookbooks but they were so off-the-wall and not very realistic for a family with 2 school age boys. It was so hard to find any recipes for "normal" easy cooking that didn't require weird or bizzare ingredients!! Thats why I love this cookbook! The recipes are simple and DELICIOUS!!! It's worth every penny! We can't wait to see how this will impact his cholesterol levels!!

Some very nice recipes. Excellent nutritional info
I bought this book to help lose weight but when I saw it also lists the sodium, I gave it to my mother-in-law who's on a strict low sodium diet but wasn't adhering to it. The recipes we've tried were excellent and easy to prepare. I really think my Mother-in-law will find it easier to follow her diet, which is a good thing because her life depends on it.

Now I have to buy another copy for myself!

So good ¿ one wasn't enough!
As one who has coronary heart disease, I feel qualified to comment on low-fat cooking. No Red Meat is one of my favorite and most-used cookbooks for healthy, delicious meals. The recipes use everyday, common pantry items, and you don't have to be a Julia Childs to follow the instructions. Johnny's Chicken Pot Pie has become my husband's most requested supper, and it can be made in about an hour. When my dog, Gracie, stole my book and ate the covers and the corners (not I know why it's called dog-eared) with the page numbers on them, I couldn't wait to purchase another copy. Try it, you'll love it!

No Regrets - A Must for a Consultant's Collection
March 31, 2004

No Regrets is an invaluable guide for providing a practical framework to work through issues or experiences that are still holding on to us and holding us back from experiencing our true potential. Hamilton Beazley is a gifted author who articulates the steps in a non-judgmental approach. It is clear to me from reading the book that Dr. Beazley has lived the steps himself which makes his work all the more credible as an author. No Regrets is the first book that I have found that incorporates a process with the contemplative practice of reflection and the inner journey. And he does it in a contemporary language that speaks to our needs and modern way of life.

Through many years of self-exploration and discovery, I had stumbled across several of the steps outlined in the book. Dr. Beazley outlines a process and a cohesive framework so one doesn't have to spend countless hours reading and searching on your own. I wish he had written this book years ago. While I do not consider myself a person who is regretful and dwells on the past, his work reminded me that I did have some issues which demanded my reflection. I can now move on to better productivity and new possibilities.

I have already given No Regrets to several professional colleagues not only for their own use but to assist them in supporting others who are attempting to shed issues which are holding them back. Their reaction has been as enthusiastic as mine. Executive and personal coaches as well as any organization and leadership consultant will find the book enormously helpful and one that should be a staple in their consulting tool box.

No Regrets for Buying This Book
Dr. Beazley's book is gracefully written and profoundly insightful. Read it. Absorb it.

"No Regrets" offers the possibility of deep transformation in readers precisely because it is: (1) practical, in the sense that it answers the question "What can I do now?" and (2) spiritual, because it invites readers to ask the even more profound questions that underlie lingering regrets. Too many books about inner issues only give outer answers: "Do this and your problem will go away!" or they offer outer doctrines disguised as inner answers: "Believe this and you'll be a happy person!" By contrast, Beazley's ten steps are, at heart, a process that spirals readers inward to the quiet spaces where there is no self deception.

Here is a personal example triggered by reading "No Regrets." I thought I had forgiven others-and even myself-for three or four traumatic events in my personal past. Yet, pesky regrets still came upon me unbidden, like wraiths in the night. I wanted them to go away. After reading Dr. Beazley's book, I realized that I had NOT yet forgiven others, much less myself. Forgiveness comes at the end of the process; I had not yet done the reflective work to reach that stage.

This journey is not easy precisely because it is so important, but Dr. Beasley has clearly lived what he writes about. He joins the reader as a supportive coach and fellow seeker, not a judgmental prophet. Those who read this book looking for intellectual understanding and practical advice about the phenomenon of regrets will find it. Those who read it yearning for emergence into wholeness will also be satisfied, as long as they enter into a process like the one described.

Dr. Beazley is such a clear, accessible writer that one might miss the sophisticated psychological research and timeless spiritual principles that form the foundation of "No Regrets." No matter. If you are serious about letting go of regrets, it's time to integrate what your head knows with what your heart and gut want you to BE. Read the book.

The Power of Letting Go
Yet again, a book comes along to assist people to take charge of their lives by consciously letting go of the regrets we all have. Why we have a hard time in letting go of our regrets is beyond common sense. By letting go of these harmful thoughts and feeling from the past, we get to have joy, happiness, and peace.

Not one of the 10 steps outlined in the book is new. And to be honest, everyone already knows each one of them, just not in the pragmatic way Hamilton Beazley outlines them. He is to be applauded for giving us a way to responsibly look at our past, put it in perspective, actively deal with our issues, and create the life we desire.

COMPLETELY COMPELLING
You don't have to be from Louisiana to find this book completely compelling. Any fan of non-fiction, history or true crime will be unable to put it down. Arceneaux presents a fascinating story of murder and justice in a most captivating way. The author's attention to detail is amazing - scholarly but never intimidating. I was captivated by the twists and turns the story took along with Arceneaux's insightful positioning of the events and their import. This book will leave a lasting impression on you. Read it...

NO SPARK OF MALICE
GREAT READING ON THE HISTORY OF THE ACADIANS AS WELL AS THE SCOTT-LAFAYETTE, LA AREA. THE MURDER HELPS KEEP A THREAD OF INTEREST GOING IN THE FAMILIES OF THIS AREA.

More Spark than Malice
A well woven tapestry of the history and sociology of the Acadians of Louisiana, the South in post reconstruction years, and the genealogy of the authors family all neatly tied together in the telling of the tale of a murder which at the time was an international sensation even though it took place in the back waters of Louisiana. William Arceneaux is a smooth talker in person and has proved himself a skillful writer and clever story teller. There is one vignette on euthanasia that you may not want to read because it will haunt you when you wake up in a dark room at 3 o'clock in the morning. This an entertaining, even educational, well conceived and organized book.

An update on Robert Banfelder
This is in answer to many letters, phone calls, and e-mails concerning the writer's fiction and non-fiction.Robert Banfelder's nonfiction writing on the criminal justice system is unquestionably fodder for his novels. Through his first nine articles and editorials in 1991, Banfelder decried the incarceration of a young man wrongly accused and convicted of a crime he did not commit. With the help of Banfelder, attorney Mark Baker -- formerly of Barry Slotnick's office in New York -- along with CBS News correspondent Mike Taiibi, Richard Tchilinguirian's conviction was overturned and the Armenian man was released from prison. Bob's sequel to his first published novel, No Stranger Than I, The Signing, incorporates the tragic but factual aftermath of the young man's death. In an article entitled, A Case for Vigilantism, Bob Banfelder writes bluntly about a family's plea and promise for street justice with regard to the rape of their 15 year-old daughter.Displaying an editorial concerning the John Gotti trial and sentencing, the latter of which the writer attended, protestors held and waved copies of the author's writings which appeared on the front cover of The Daily News and Newsday, complete with photos of Bob and the mob boss. TV cameras zeroed in on the two photos and text clipped beneath windshield wiper blades as demonstrators overturned federal vehicles that ringed the Brooklyn federal courthouse. These factual events figure prominently into his fictional works, giving his writings the ring of truth upon which his stories are built. Another example is to be found in The Triumvirate concerning the Buttafuocos, that is Mary Jo and Joey. Banfelder interviewed the latter as well as having attended Joey's 'coming out of jail' party at an Italian restaurant in Syosset. Banfelder's portrayal of the event and its cast of characters is intriguing, "with very little embellishment," the author says.Banfelder, while a reporter covering the Galen Kelly story -- a cult deprogrammer and distinguished law enforcement professional who was convicted on kidnapping charges and whom Banfelder believes was set up by a notorious cult -- writes with an unerring eye in his treatment of fanatical groups passing themselves off as religious sects as evidenced in The Triumvirate in addition to his latest completed work entitled, The Author. Its theme? Why would the Justice Department look the other way concerning a suspected serial killer? The answer is tied to a seemingly innocuous cult, its leader insulated for reasons concerning national security.Wish to gain insights into the trials and tribulations of courtroom proceedings where Robert Shulman (Howard Mills) is on trial for his life as a serial killer? Trace Evidence is a novel based largely on the actual pretrial, trial and sentencing phase, which the author attended for fifteen months. Banfelder made it his business to interview forensic scientists, Suffolk County's head of homicide -- Detective Lieutenant John Gierasch -- as well as virtually all the major and peripheral players involved. Too, the author lectured before psychiatrists and students at Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center, speaking about the trial and his writings.Banfelder's novel in progress is entitled, The Teacher. All seven of his works, with the exception of one (Trumble's Pond), are psychological thrillers. His novels are unique in that they delve into the mind of the serial killer as well as one who sees little equity in a flawed criminal justice system -- namely a vigilante that sets out to avenge the victim and his or her family.Bob Banfelder is an expansive literary novelist, drawing from his investigative reporting on the innocent as well as the guilty. Other personalities include Amy Fisher, Leona Helmsley, O.J. Simpson, Sammy "the Bull" Gravano, as well as several lesser known individuals.Banfelder's writings are both fascinating and brilliant say his readers and reviewers. I have read all of his published works and manuscripts, and I wholeheartedly agree. His writings are literary and lively, with strokes of murderous genius at their core. A rare combination, woven successively and harmoniously. It is only a matter of time before an ambitious agent together with an audacious publisher pick up on Bob Banfelder, acknowledging his unique form and style while realizing a potentially prodigious audience -- a readership both sexes will relish.

Most compelling thriller. Should be a best seller!
The author presents his literary abilities on every dynamic spell-binding page. Read this book slowly so that you can savor each line. I never wanted to reach the last page. But, then again I can always re-read it. Would be very interested to hear more about the writer and his current project(s). Is this the same Robert Banfelder who was the key crime reporter during the early 90's for the Towers Newsletter (New York). I remember reading about John Gotti and Amy Fisher... and seeing the name Banfelder. Is he still doing television? Let's hear more about the Banfelder man. Signed: Editor North Shore News

This psychological thriller grabbed my interest.
Mr. Banfelder must have done a lot of research on schizophrenic killers, ventriloquism, voodoo and ancient Egyptian mummification because it is all here in this story of Richard Geist -- plus a few interesting chapters on U.S. Marine boot camp. The book covers the territory explored in Silence of the Lambs and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but with its own twist and turns.

What can I say? It was great!
If you're a fan of Henson's work you'll absolutely die for this book! It's got great coverage over his past movies to 91. Some include The Dark Crystal, The great muppet Caper, and my personal favorite: THe Labyrinth!

awsome!!!!!!!
This book is great if you want to learn more about the movies that the creature workshop did instead of Jim Henson. Although it does talk alot about him it's more about the workshop he created and left behind. It's a grest book if you love Jim Henson's work and I do !Get it it's great!

Jim Henson {Fraggle} Rocks!
Since skipping school to go and watch 'Labyrinth'. I've been fascinated with animatronics. The creatures produced both during and after Jim Henson have been both imaginative and captivating. 'No Strings Attached' is a wonderful book of mechanical invention, artistry and imagination. Being someone who loves to watch 'The making of..' specials on TV whenever a new special-effects blockbuster comes out, I found this book catered to my 'Wow! How did they do that?' curiosity. I am a great fan of puppetry but I am a biased fan of Jim Henson...if you buy this book, turn to page 112, the girl kneeling on one knee on the bottom right corner is yours truly!

Please get this for your kid.

Wonderful Multi-Generational Book
I used to check out this book when I was child. My friends and I used to race to the P section of the school library to check out all of Bill Peet's books. His stories are so fun and imaginative. The illustrations pop off the pages and are completely captivationg. I can't wait to read this story to my little boy. I know he will love it as much as I still do!

The Greatest Kid's Book Ever
Everyone has a story that they remember from when they were little, a book that they would check out every time they went to the library. This was mine, mainly because of its amazing illustrations and creatures that could have existed, at least to a five year old. This story appeals to all children, amusing both princesses and knights.

A Navigator's Nirvana
One of the most entertaining books I've read in years. Ropp's trek from Houston to Biloxi to Omaha and, finally, Washington,is authentic and that's from someone who trod in those steps a few years earlier on the way from navigator and electronics training to retirement from the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force thirty years later. Highly recommended, especially for anyone who ever wore a uniform, especially a blue one!

Catch-22 Redux
A very funny book, and as a former flight surgeon it's a little too close to the truth!

No Time for Pilots
James McM. Owen has written a very entertaining book about life as a junior officer in the Air Force in the 'good old days' forty or so years ago. My military years were in the Navy but, I'm convinced, the service is the service and what the Air Force imposed on the hero and his associates was typical of service life in general. Thankfully, I never had such lousy duty as Shimia! The book seems to pick up speed as it rolls along and I was very disappointed when the the story was finally over. Looking forward to Mr. Owen's next book -- he is a very good storyteller.

No time for airmen neither!
I read this book while serving in the Air Force and while serving a temporary duty assignment in Saudi Arabia. On more than one occasion I was amused to see an NCO's reaction to the book I was reading.

Having been a member of the only military fighting force in the world that isn't too proud to make fun of itself, this book is easily one of the most memorable pieces of literature I had the pleasure of coming across during my enlistment. Will Stockdale, backwoods redneck/draftee, is the Huckleberry Finn (with a bit of Forrest Gump mixed in) of modern military fiction. One of the funniest dialogue exchanges occurs when Will and his pal Ben - a short bespectacled gent whose chief ambition (initially) is to bust into infantry - are talking about how horrible it would be if they got selected to go into the Air Force.

"...Will, do you know what they call men in the Air Force?"
"No, I don't think I heered say."
"They call 'em...airmen. By dog, Will, don't you see? How'd you like to be called an airman?"
"By God, I just don't think I'd stand for it..."

But Will and Ben's ambitions later tend to change when considering (among other things) the many decorations one may receive in the Air Force and how easily they can be acquired. It's especially humorous when Ben points out,

"I believe you stand just about as good a chance of getting [medals] in the Air Force as any place...Why, today, you can get a medal by just not doing anything wrong..."

It was at this point that I began to wonder in the other American military branches - or those of our allies - award their brave men and women the Good Conduct Medal (the recipient earns this by not getting demoted); the Longevity Medal (serve for a minimum of four years); and other awards and honors just for showing up. NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS - written by a former officer of the U.S. Army Air Corps - made it clear that some things in our military are just downright hilarious if you can look at them from the right perspective.

Even if you don't have the military experience, this short, lighthearted, and reader-friendly book is sure to please as it brings to mind reminders of FORREST GUMP, GOMER PYLE, and...oh yeah...NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS (starring Andy Griffith as Will Stockdale).

2nd funniest book ever written!
You WILL laugh out loud. Will Stockdale vs. the U.S. Army. Not a fair fight in this hilarious book. Naive hillbilly reduces military to shambles.

Only thing funnier - The Education of H*Y*M*A*N K*A*P*L*A*N by Leonard Q. Ross

This is a very funny book!
I don't remember when I first read this book, but I do remember laughing out loud during certain parts (something I rarely ever do!) If you've seen the movie starring Andy Griffith you have the basic idea as to what it's about, but the book adds a lot of little things which I found immensely amusing. Needless to say, it's not complimentary to the military, but it's more of an attack on the bureaucracy surrounding the armed forces than it is on anything else. A very funny book!

No Treason (Libertarian Broadsides Series: No 5)
Published in Paperback by Ralph Myles Publisher, Inc. (October, 1990)
Author: Lysander Spooner
Amazon base price: $3.25
Used price: $6.95
Collectible price: $8.95
Average review score:

Good point, but tediously written
Massachusetts attorney Lysander Spooner wrote this over a century ago as a broadside against the legitimacy of the U.S. Constitution itself, and it still stands today as one of the most radical essays ever published. It is based on legal principles, especially contract law.

However, the essay is very tedious and repetitive to read. Lysander Spooner's point is certainly food for thought whether you agree with it or not, but he could have been a lot more concise. On the other hand, maybe some things bear repeating.

This was republished during the early 1970s, at the height of the antiwar movement, by a publisher (Ralph Myles Publishers) known for publishing antiwar and anarchist classics. It is considered a classic among anarchists, as well as libertarians. Both of them find this to be a classic political statement against the legitimacy of the U.S. government itself. It's worth a look for that reason.

Best if read several times...
. We would be amiss to state the pamphlet as redundant upon a single reading. It sounded quite repetitive to me the first time I read it. But, when I tried to summarize the theme, I found that the points Spooner makes include several distinct areas of discussion. And, it builds to a climax. He ultimately points out the real rulers of this country, "... these soulless blood-money loan-mongers... And now these lenders of blood-money demand their pay; and the government, so called, becomes their tool, their servile, slavish, villainous tool, to extort it from the labor of both the North and the South."
. Spooner repeats in places for emphasis, but the thread of his argument sweeps on through the various objections that one might raise along his route.
. If you think it repeats, try to outline it. You'll find that each section presents his point in another light.
. As a matter of fact, any attempt to state the theme in a paragraph would lower it to a statement of personal opinion rather than the masterful essay which it is.

Dan Marks
Republic of Texas
.

An essay of flaws underlying the basis of this Republic.
It has been said in other places that Spooner raises a rather obscure point regarding the legitimacy of the U.S. Constitution. This point of view now writes him out of the history books. Another writer describes this particular work as the single most subversive piece ever written in the United States -- an opinion shared by those who are narrow-minded about giving up their individual liberty.

If the Constitution has no authority, what does? Is it power, like might making right, that controls and restrains our liberties? Or is it the individual, who must live under the rules of the coercive collective, through ballot counts of a minority of the population, the "voters"?

And if the Constitution does have authority, does that authority include authorizing our government to abuse our rights as citizens and as people?

Spooner notes in his opening, speaking of the original writers of the Constitution, "If they had intended to bind their posterity to live under it, they should have said that their object was, not 'to secure to them the blessings of liberty,' but to make slaves of them; for if their 'posterity' are bound to live under it, they are nothing less than the slaves of their foolish, tyrannical, and dead grandfathers." So starts the essay.

Destroying all support for voting by secret ballot, for voluntarily paying taxes, for respecting elected officials (members of a "secret band of robbers and murderers"), for recognizing treaties, for giving oaths to support the Constitution, etc, etc,... the essay makes all common wisdom built upon our accepted, politically correct fallacies collapse under the weight of our own reason.

If you ever read this book, remember... our rights are not granted by government; rather, we institute government to protect our rights.
