All the Way to God
What an awesome story! My 6 year old asks me to read it every night before bed. He especially loves the fact that it is a true story written by a dad and his daughter. In a child's early exploration of spirituality and God, this is a simple way to explain the power of our love for God. This book is a must have for your child's collection!

The value of family
An excellent book emphasizing the importance of forming good relationships between children and their parents. It is very heartwarming, expresses sincere emotions and will be enjoyed by the young as well as the old.

GREAT BOOK!
This Book made me think of all the lvoe in my family and in this world your family are the people thnat meanthe most and will always be with you!

The Amazing Spider-Man Masterworks (Amazing Spider-Man, No. 1-5)
Published in Paperback by Marvel Books (September, 1992)
Authors: Stan Lee and Steve Ditko
Amazon base price: $12.95
Used price: $10.49
You don't really know Spider-Man until you read (or re-read) this collection of the original Spider-Man comics from the 1960s. Peter Parker is an angst-filled teenager who, when he gains the super powers of a spider, must balance the great power with great responsibility. Steve Ditko's art and Stan Lee's story strike a resonance with today's struggling teen much in the same way as it did in the '60s.

Introducing Spider-Man, a superhero who is "different"
I am sure I am not alone in going back and re-reading "The Amazing Spider-Man" from the beginning as a way of both preparing for the blockbuster movie version and critiquing its fidelity to the original comic books. In this collection have Spider-Man's origin in "Amzaing Fantasy" #15 as well as first encounters with the Chameleon, the Vulture, the Tinkerer, Doctor Octopus, the Sandman, and even Doctor Doom from the first five issues of "The Amazing Spider-Man."

Although there were similarities to those who had come before (e.g., the motivation of a loved one's death just like Batman), it was ultimately the differences that made Spider-Man so popular. However, the key element of that difference did not emerge until issue #1 of "The Amazing Spider-Man," when J. Jonah Jameson begins his public crusade against the Spider-Man menace Ultimately, what made Spider-Man "different" was that he was considered to be a menace rather than a hero by the public. This meant that usually neither Peter Parker nor his web-slinger alter-ego had any luck other than bad, very bad, and worse. Here was the great idea of making the comic book superhero an underdog who is bewildered, confused, and bitter (end of issue #4) rather than a symbol of truth, justice and the American way.

What is amazing as you re-read these stories is how well these comics stand up (with the glaring exception of the parts in "Spider-Man" #1 where they drop a steel net to try and capture John Jameson's errant space capsule and Spidey catches a ride from a jet fighter using his webbing). I was never a big admirer of Steve Ditko's artwork, especially the stuff he did after he left Marvel, but in going over these early Spider-Man comics I am very impressed with his compositional skills. Ditko deserves a lot more credit as a comic book artist than I had given him the first time around.

As for Stan Lee's writing, the fun is how he tweaks the prevailing superhero mythos, especially in terms of Superman. Here the great metropolitan newspaper is out to get Spider-Man thrown in jail and Spider-Man's #1 fan is always trying to beat up puny Peter Parker. Then you can toss in the soap opera elements that are just starting to emerge in these first few issues. But clearly the key supporting figure here is Aunt May, the beloved little old lady who was arguably the more unique and important supporting character Lee ever created at Marvel. No other superhero ever had a white-haired aunt who could never know the truth, who was terrified by the mere thought of Spider-Man, and who showed almost as much gumption during all those stays in the hospital on death's door as she did heart every day of her life.

It is clear from re-reading these first six comics that all of the defining elements of Spider-Man were pretty much established at this point in the character's history. But once you have learned the beginning that is no reason to stop at this point, because even if you switch over to the black & white "Essentials of Spider-Man" collection to continue the web crawler's story, you will still enjoy the ride because the best is yet to come.

(Sigh) I Guess This'll Do Until I Can See The Movie Again :)
All kidding aside, this is a wonderful collection. Steve Ditko's art may look a bit crude to the contemporary reader, but few comics artists before or since have approached his mastery of chiaroscuro and composition. Plus... it's got the Vulture! Doc Ock! J. Jonah Jameson! And Aunt May! And it's in color! What's not to like?

A must own for any true believer. Nuff said!

Excellent Rare Find!!!
I just came across this book in my local comic book shop and was in the mood for some classic Marvel so I picked it up. It reprints issues #1-5 of Amazing Spider-Man plus Spidey's origin story in Amazing Fantasy #15.

If you're a fan of Steve Ditko's art this book is a treasure. And even if you're not, after reading this book you will be!

The stories are, of course, great - they feature the first appearances of Doc Ock, the Sandman, and the Vulture, plus a battle royal with Doctor Doom.

This book is pretty rare (it predates the new series of hardcover Marvel Masterworks books.) After it's publication, Marvel decided it would be cheaper to do their reprints in larger numbers and to jazz them up with hardcovers, so there is no continuation. This is basically a stand-alone TPB. (Marvel Masterworks vol. 1 reprints the same Spider-Man issues, along with issues #6-10.) Only two other similar volumes were printed, Avengers Masterworks and X-Men Masterworks.

Don't forget the illustrations!
There are more than enough reasons to pick up this book if you have any interest in crows or birds in general or even seeing a good example of descriptive biological studies, however one point missed by others are the beautiful illustrations in this volume that are well above average for a science book.

There are very few books about Corvids, and even fewer based on North American research, but this wonderful volume is a solid step in the right direction that is both well informed while also personable, leaving one to hope that future volumes or at least more research on these birds will result.

Any Corvid enthusiasts should purchase this book without hesitation as it is a relatively inexpensive and irreplacible contribution to the literature.

Detailed observations of corvid behavior
With a keen observer's eye and a flair for marvelous prose, Kilham has written a book that is not only an important resource for researchers in behavioral biology, but also a delightful read for any nature lover.

GREAT!!!
I thought that this book was very informative and easy to read. I research on corvid communication and even found the book to have VERY important information. Anyone interested in birds in general should read this book!

Excellent for do-it-yourself investors!
I read a lot of books and articles on personal finance and investing - this book is one of the best I have read and acted on....the author really motivates you to plan your portfolio...and he sure has a lucid way to make it look easy. If you're committed to getting a sense of your financial life and want to build a comprehensive investment portfolio, get this book!

VWS review of Conover's Astute Investing
This book provides the most systematic approach to investing I havc encountered. Its step-by-step approach walks one through the process from establishment of investment objectives through examination of investment alternatives and the selection of funds based on meaningful criteria. Very well presented, and most certainly highly recommended!

This is a user-friendly comprehensive book for investors
I thought I knew how to select a mutual fund and to diversify my portfolio before I read this book. Now I have adjustments to make. Conover gives valuable tables of criteria for bonds and funds, which I copied for personal use, and he offers his own slightly-outdated top picks. This is a must read for unsure investors with any investing horizon!

All Hypnobabies Students automatically get this book!
Back Labor No More is a *must have* book for all pregnant women! It has made a huge difference for so many of my students; shorter easier labors, turning posterior babies so easily and effectively. It also helps anterior babies to descend faster and easier, since the angle of the baby changes immediately - down and OUT! I also advise all CBE's, doulas, midwives, L&D nurses and OBs to read it and use the techniques with their patients. It can make an otherwise difficult birthing go much smoother, and definitely faster.

So simple, yet it works!
My doula loaned me this book and we used the techniques during my labor. My baby turned in three contractions and was born very shortly thereafter. Amazing! I highly recommend this book to any pregnant mom!

A must have for posterior babies!
I highly recommend this book to any woman who has posterior babies or back labor. My first 3 babies were all posterior and my 4th was until I used this technique through 4 contractions and she turned anterior. So simple, but so helpful!

Alone is right
This book is the sequel to Alone!, a story of 6 girls who are sent on a week-long cruise that leaves them stranded on an uncharted island with their slightly older Caribbean guide. When this story picks up the girls have been on the island for about 4 months and have pretty much settled in to island though they spend almost all of their time building a boat to carry them away from it. When yet another storm takes yet another boat from them the story starts really losing its momentum and becomes a little far-fetched. the impassible lagoon is suddenly able to have a raft leave and then a rescue ship come in unharmed - it conflicts with everything that had been built up before it.

Aber apparently was not able to fit all of her story of the Lost Girls into one book, but did not have enough material for a true series. The editors should have had her combine the two. The real reason for reading this book after Adrift is simply for some closure.

Why 4 stars?:
The characters have become too similar and boring. The events are more interesting, but become a little fantastic. If you haven't read the prequel, I wouldn't bother with this one. Still, it is entertaining and not poorly written. Anything that gets a child to read is worth having on your shelves.

Alone(Lost Girls,No 2)
I found this book at a store in the mall when I was younger, and I was enchanted by it from beginning to end.The auther writes about these girls in such a way that you feel as if you've actually known them all along. Each one has her own fears and insecurities that she must, and does, overcome.I have taken this story with me even into adulthood.

a great sequel
this book was great, but i never actually read the first book. it wasn't for sale at all. the girls work together and triumph together. an easy and enjoyable read for the younger crowd.

Storyline
Tyler's annual crafts fair is in full swing. This year the theme is Native American art. Stroll among the tables and admire the handiwork of America's favorite hometown.

Each book set in Tyler is a self-contained story; together, they stitch the fabric of a community.

Michael Youngthunder is a succesful businessman. But he remains tormented by the Winnebago heritage he cannot leave behind....

Renata Meyer loves Michael, but he comes from a world she knows nothing about. And Michael seems unable-or unwilling-to help her bridge the gap.

I Love This Book!!!!!
This book had to be my favorite from the Tyler series. I read the first chapter of it from the previous book, and I could not wait to read it! It really was a great book and I suggest that anyone who has read the Tyler books should certainly read this one.

ARROWPOINT hits the Target!
This was my favorite of the entire series: "Welcome to Tyler". It was well written, and the characters were so easy to like, and their story was very captivating! Their personalities came alive under the skillful writing style of Ms. Ellison.

One night stand yields baby and a romantic romp.
Caitlin Adams' plans include a quick trip to see her sister and congratulate her on her engagement before flying to Europe to complete a design assignment. It did not include the most wonderful night of her life with a man she just met. Her dream lover is none other then her new in-law: the man who felt Caitlin's sister too inferior to marry his rich brother. Returning from Europe a year later, Caitlin brings back three-month-old Tyler, the image of his father, and the joy of her life, but since the high and mighty Andrew Sinclair has no idea he is a daddy, Caitlin will keep their son her little secret.

A familiar tale, tweaked with a new twist, The Baby Bargain is just that--a bargain at your local bookstore.

A romantic, amusing romp
Kathryn Attalla does it again! Sparkling dialog, and well-defined main and secondary characters lift "The Baby Bargain" several notches above standard romance novels. I look forward to even more books by this talented author.

Great characters - fast moving.
This is one of the more witty, fun-loving books in the romance area that I have read in a long time. The characters developed quickly and strongly, and were very realistic. I enjoyed this book and hope to read more from this author.

An OK Story
In the past couple of years I've read 5 Ralph Cotton books. When I'm done with a book I always rate it and or write my feelings on the first page. I have just pulled all of these books from the shelves and read what my comments were. All of them said it's an OK story. What amazes me is the comments of other readers from most westerns. They say "the best ever that I have read." It is obvious to me that these people have never read Robert J. Conley or Cameron Judd. .

A new and welcom voice in westerns
After reading Border Dogs, I thought Ralph Cotton was a newwriter on the western scene. However, I see now that he has fourbooks about his ranger Sam and Maria and I plan to read all of them. Cotton does not rely on old cliches and dull plots. His characters are as real as the people we see on the news at night. His stories go farther than most of what I find at the movies. I am his newest fan, and will continue to be a fan from now on. Good work, Mr. Cotton. Keep them coming.

Just keeps getting better!
Ralph introduced us to the ranger in "Montana Red," and it was "Classic Cotton." I didn't think it was possible, but I believe old Ralph has done even better in "Badlands." The action keeps you turning pages till the wee hours of the night. Keep it up Ralph! You've got us hooked on your writing and we now need our "Cotton Fix" on a regular interval.

Friends Aren't Worth Stealing For
This book is a goood example which shows us that in some cases, friends think that if they stole or did something for you, you must do something in return. Most of these things are rather not good. From my point of view, friends are not worth stealing for. If that's the way you might think, then you are on the wrong side of friendship. think positive and don't let your friend dow. Also, it shows you how to take responsability for your own positive and negative actions and outcomes.

The Best Book So Far
Hi I love this book it is the best i read so far. I am planning on getting more party of five claudia books. I let all my friends borrow it and they all loved it. Hope youll like it too!

I loved how the author showed stealing doesn't pay.
