The Literary Acheivment Of Our Century- Or Perhaps Any Other
The only way to describe this magestic novel is majunky, yes, it is so wonderful it needs a new word to describe it. This book will simulataneously change any readers life. Yes, majunky it truly is. Majunky in the highest sense of the word. The Illiad looks like a pile of dog crap compared to this book. Shakespeare is an amateur compared to Issacson's majestic prose. The fact that this did not win the Pulitzer prize is on par with the great crimes of the century, like the Lindinbergh kidnapping. If i had the chance to have Issacson as a science teacher I might actually explode with joy, I would even come in at seven twenty eight, even though the high school's classes don't start till seven thirty five. He's that good. I would even throw out my Nuteela sandwich which I ate outside the classroom because I had to rush to school without eating the most important meal of the day. No time for tie ups indeed. This is the acheivment of he millenium. He is the nausest of men.

TWO OF MR, I's STUDENTS!!!
Hey, so even though we have never actually read this book we can say it is good because we have a good source. Mr. Joshua Isaacson is our science teacher!!!!!!:) WE just were reading the reviews for fun and we found it interesting that many of the reviewers thought he should be a science teacher because he actually is!:) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!Go EARTH SCIENCE!!

WOW ISAACSON I AM IMPRESSED TO NO END
I agree with Andy when he says this is an awesome book. I am utterly (cow analogy) shocked and amazed by this piece of work. Would give it an A+!!! I also agree with Andy when he says that Isaacson should be a science teacher, wow!

One of the best time travel books ever!
I just loved this book. I ordered it off the internet and I don't regret it. I am a Back to the Future fan and just enjoyed seeing all of those injokes. I hope she makes another book soon!

A Boy With Time On His Side and a Girl Out Of Time-Literally
What happens when a teenage boy invents a time machine and accidentally transports a 15-year-old girl through time from 1850 to his present time in 2005? Author Kristen Sheley provides the answer to this question in her first novel called "No Time Like the Present." The story follows the adventures of Sam Foster and Meg Clayton, whose chance meeting through the use of a time machine, invented by Sam, sets the stage for the first of many time travelling adventures planned by Sheley for her "Partners in Time Series."

Sheley does a wonderful job in the telling of this story of two teens from different time periods who wish for larger-than-life adventures only to find more excitement than they bargained for. Both Sam and Meg narrate the story in alternating chapters, allowing the reader to see both of the characters' perspectives. Sheley is right on the money with Meg's reaction to her sudden appearance in 2005. And the character of Sam, who dreams of becoming a successful scientist, is a bright, enthusiastic, not-so-typical teen that finds himself in a precarious circumstance. Sheley takes time to introduce the characters and their reactions to their plight, and rightly so. This is the first in a series of books for young adults planned by Sheley called the "Partners in Time Series," which will continue the adventures of Sam and Meg as they travel through time.

Sheley will attract many readers to this series, because of the time travel theme. Time travel seems to appeal to all ages and "No Time Like the Present" will tickle the proverbial taste buds of those who enjoy the flavor of a good time travel-related story. Sheley's love of time travel began with her interest in the "Back to the Future" movie trilogy, in which Marty McFly and "Doc" Emmett L. Brown take many adventures through time. Her novel even utilizes various names, phrases, and references from the trilogy, right down to "The Ripple Effect" aspect of time travel -so well known among fans of "Back to the Future." Her novel pays homage to the trilogy through these references.

The novel gets off to somewhat of a slow start - Meg doesn't even leave the vicinity of Sam's house until almost a third of the way into the story. But this is necessary to give Meg time to get used to her immediate surroundings before she and Sam venture out into the vast, complicated world of the 21st century. And Sheley gives the reader plenty to chew on in the meantime. The meat of the story occurs during the last 9 chapters of this 23-chapter novel. But the setup during the first 14 chapters is needed to set the tone, introduce the characters, and build the story to its dual-climactic ending - an ending in which readers will find they won't be disappointed. Readers will ultimately find themselves wanting to know more about Sam and Meg - and Sheley plans on giving it to them.

The "Partners in Time Series" from which Kristen Sheley says she expects to turn out about one novel per year will no doubt yield many exciting time travel adventures by Sam Foster and Meg Clayton. Sheley's love for the art of writing, combined with her love of time travel stories, truly stands out in "No Time Like the Present" and she is sure to delight readers with her brand of storytelling for many years into the future.

A fun read!
I have been corresponding, via the Internet, on and off, with Kristen Sheley for some time now. It's great to see her first novel get published. Besides a few gripes I had with the abrupt ending and the overabundance of the distracting BACK TO THE FUTURE references, I really like it. The characters were developed well, there were some themes that I could relate to, and the ideas of time travel were clever. I could relate to Meg feeling uncomfortable in the future (Sam's present) but not wanting to leave at the end. It reminded me of being at camp for the first time. I really want to follow more adventures of Sam and Meg. I look forward to the next title in this series!

The story of an All-American family, profound tragedy & love
At the southern tip of Lake Michigan arose out of the great sand dunes of Indiana, in 1906, the City of the Century, more familiarly known as Gary, Indiana. A one-industry municipality that developed a school system that set the standards for the American nation. By the end of the 20th century the town had given birth to two Nobel Prize winners, at least one Pulitzer Prize winner, an Apollo Astronaut and notable motion picture stars, and vocalists the best of them, the Jackson's. This was a city where dreams could be made, if one were lucky enough to secure a job in the lakeshore steel mills, which polluted the skies and the waters and poisoned the environment with untold toxins. It was the kind of place, where American President's liked to have the people identify with their goals hence Franklin Roosevelt, Truman and other White House aspirants visited here to cull support and the Mayor had special invites to John Kennedy's and Lyndon Johnson's Inaugurations. This was a Mecca for workers, and besides those who made fortunes here, there were also simpler folks whose roots had been pulled up from across the American hinterland and from Mexico and Eastern and Southern Europe in an attempt to become part of the American Dream. The city had also hosted the first Afro-American Mayor juxtaposed to major lay offs and the decline of employment opportunities that soon saw Gary's thriving business center and fashionable neighborhoods abandoned. The Calumet Regional Archives at Indiana University Northwest was established in 1973 to become the database of this environment. Their founding archivist immediately ordered copy of "No Words" with news of publication to compliment their collection as this is the story of two locals, a native son and daughter and their family.

Not only is "No Words" a valuable tool of local history, and an oral historians dream book, but also this tome should be a required reading for anyone considering becoming a parent. This easy to read book, laid out in interchanging conversations between a husband and wife, about the parenting of their children, is also a lesson in the brevity of life. It's the kind of story and about the kind of people that all those Presidents who had visited the community wanted to identify with, and even though those Chief Executives most likely lived in another realm of American society. It's a Jean Shepherd-like story, about an All-American family, church going people, with their family history related by the automobile owned at the time, and of thoughtful parents who suffered unimaginable losses and how they have and continue to make sense of their profound grief.

"No Words" is the kind of book that once read will make families want to "Talk Amongst Themselves" and discuss their own thoughts and examine their own emotions of grief and perhaps readdress priorities, and no longer put off important hugs, conversations and visits with children and parents, because there may not be a tomorrow.

Incredible Story of Survival
This book is very well written in a different, yet easy to read style. The author has a unique way of bringing the reader right into the story. This book can easily be read in one sitting and you will carry this story with you for a long time. IT is something that you will learn from and help you gain prosective on your own life. I am recommending this book to all of my friends. This book is destined to make a huge impact on whomever reads it.

understanding children
This book is about connecting with children and adults no matter their situation. It is about compassion and being non-judgemental. It is about seeing what is extraordinary in every child even when they are trying hard to hide from the world. Stacey Bess is intuitive, honest, straight-forward and compassionate. She connects with children not because she is perfect but because she realizes that she is human just like her students. If you want to find stories that will move you and inspire you, then this book is a path to that place.

Very touching
This is a book about a middle-class teacher who takes a job teaching homeless kids in Salt Lake City. She talks about the kids individually, the problems they had to face being homeless and the joys when she made a breakthrough. It was a lesson on hope and defiance of the odds. I found it especially touching when Karl Malone, a basketball player for the Utah Jazz, took the homeless students Christmas shopping and took them to a Jazz game. I found this to be a wonderful portrayal of the joys and trials of teaching homeless kids.

POWERFUL, INSIGHTFUL and DEEPLY TOUCHING
A beautifully written and honest collection of deeply touching stories that allows the reader a rare opportunity to see life through the tender, young eyes of a child living in a family homeless shelter, as told by their loving dedicated teacher. When the author was first asked to work in the 'School With No Name,' she had no specialized training or curriculum in working with this specialized population of students. But this pioneer let her heart be her guide as she created one of the best pilot programs in alternative education. Her stories will make you laugh, make you cry and will even make you angry. But most of all, it will challenge and inspire you to get involved and find your own special way of making a difference.

art and enlightenment
I like the approach to understanding art as self expression and as a means of development. I think I began to understand something about why so-called serious modern art has meaning and importance. I also appreciated the down to earth suggestions for encouraging personal creative expression through art. Quite readeable on deep subjects. Philosophical.

"Art is a response to a call..."
Having studied with Peter London over the past ten years I can assure readers that as a teacher he lives what he writes. He embodies what every teacher should bring to students: careful listening, respectful attention, thoughtful questioning. His writings have won the deserved respect of his educator and artist colleagues nationwide. Treat yourself to a fine book.

Teachers Listen
I've read this book three times from cover to cover in the past ten years; every now and again for just certain sections. I wish every teacher taught with the respect and care that comes through in the words of this book; won't you try? It is an invaluable resource for the teacher; covering subjects such as setting up classroom environments, critiques, media, and even giving art experience ideas. If you listen carefully to his words you will be given precious pieces of knowledge for your classroom and your studio, from someone who undoubtedly practices and believes in what he knows to be good. It's that real; and that important.

Chef Of Iron is the eighth graphic novel of the No Need For Tenchi series based around the first Techi anime series. It contains seven chapters telling five stories. In chapter one, Tenchi starts behaving oddly, so Washu starts spying on him. In chapters two and three, a laboratory mishap leaves Ryoko without her powers. In chapters four and five, Sasami competes in Iron Chef style show. In chapter six, we get a few thoughts about the world of Tenchi through yosho's eyes. And in chapter seven, Yume returns for a trip to the hot springs. This is a must read for any Tenchi fan and actually deserves five stars, but I took one away because the cover shows characters who don't appear in this book

Like Tenchi? Like food? So do I. And I bought this book. :)
This has got to be my all-time favorite manga. This book has seven stories, some of them continuing the one before it. Each story has a good plot, and the artwork is so cute ^_^! Don't buy this just because Fuahno and Misaki are on the cover, though. They don't appear in the Manga at all. This book is one that you can read 500 times and you're not sick of it. I had a horrible cold last year (I could barely move) and I read the Sasami story at least 35 times before I could stand up again. If you think you know Tenchi Muyo, and You don't own this, you're wrong.

Diehard Tenchi Otaku? Buy Chef of Iron!
Oddly enough, I bought this as my FIRST manga in the series. I've seen every episode of every Tenchi series, and even two out of three movies, and this book is so good!! It's a book of 7 various stories. All seven stories are worthy of the name Tenchi Muyo, and all are very cute! Being a RyokoXTenchi fan, I loved 'Powerless', and also Washu-Chan being my favorite character, I also enjoyed 'Washu the Sleuth', and 'Petty Annoyances'. Yume has got to be a new favorite, and the only thing that got to me, was Neither Funaho, nor Misaki were in the book, *pouts and points to cover* But over all, this is now one of my favorite books. Also, you will see a familiar face in 'The Ferrous Chef', *smiles*

If you are a Tenchi fan, you will love this manga! It also portrays the characters perfectly! I found page 16 particularly funny, *snickers*...

BOB STEWART'S WRITING THRILLS REAL COP!
Bob Stewart can write! I'm a retired Chgicago Police Sgt. and I could not put this book down! The writer glues you to every page - it's like your there and you can feel everything as if you were on the scene...This is a must read for everyone who loves a fine investigation, and who wants the "real stuff" and not fluff from some "wanna bee who done it nut". Having conducted my own investigations for many years, I can say the author, Bob Stewart could have had my job any day he wanted! The man can write real life and make it all feel like your in the car with this criminal...This Book should be made into a FILM! Andy Murcia

Pseudonym or no, it's highly satisfactory
Assuming Bob Stewart is not one of the probably justifiably obscure Bob Stewarts found in a search of Amazon which yielded 34 items listed, this is either a terrific first foray into true crime, or "Bob Stewart"'s a pseudonym, and, because this is a terrific read, I, for one, would like to know whose. Either way, fans of the genre daren't miss 'No Remorse.' Especially brilliant is Stewart's reconstruction of a 1966 triple murder; wonderful and often chilling anecdotal information from the victims' families highlights fine reporting of the killings, and Stewart's account of the stay of execution granted Kenneth McDuff--which had unexpected and tragic consequences twenty years later--is highly entertaining. This is a book which proves the rule of my liberal, anti-death penalty resolve, and such tests are always welcome. And yes, it's suitably gory.

EXCELENT DETAIL-A MUST READ
Unfourtanitly, this book shows us just how our justice system has failed us. I read true crime books avidly, and have for many years, this book has stuck with me mainly because it made me angry that someone could continue to get away with murder so many times, and slip through the fingers of justice whithout notice. The book is brilliantly written and takes the reader to places they may not want to go. I belive that if you read this book you will agree.

Love Potion No. 9 is the second collection of Oh My Goddess! stories, the follow-up to the wonderful 1-555-Goddess. While not quite as charming as the first volume, this book still packs a lot of lighthearted fun. Keiichi has been granted a wish by the goddess Belldandy, and his wish is that she stay with him forever. In the first book, Belldandy's sister provides the mischievous troublemaking. This time around Sayoko and Toshiyuki are the troublemakers, vying for the respective amorous attention of Keiichi and Belldandy. Artist Kosuke Fujishima has a beautiful style that is simple and appealing. It also touches on a genre that's not well-represented in many American comics: the sports comics. Most of this story takes place at a multi-part endurance race.
Average review score:

A fun little read.
In this, the second volume of "Oh My Goddess", Keiichi and Belldandy participate in a big race, Keiichi and his motor club pals must repair the airship 'Shiden II". Urd also experiments with a love potion with silly results. And we are introduced to the evil Demon.

The book contains "Oh My Goddess" Part I issues four and five, Part II issues six, seven, and eight, and "On a Wing and a Prayer" and "Love Potion #9".

As usual, "Oh My Goddess" has a undeniably charming cast of character. Belldandy is the cutest, kindest Goddess around, and Keiichi's timid nature only makes "Oh My Goddess" even more charming. Even Urd, who is is constantly trying to get Keiichi and Belldandy in bed, never got on my nerves.

The pace for the plot is great, espcailly in "The Secret's Out" and "What a Miracle". Suspense is involved, and the plot unravels quite well. "Love Potion No.9" didn't have that degree of storytelling, and it didn't need it. Instead it focuses on humor and choas.

In this volume, we meet Mara, the demon goddess, and Sayoko's desire for the elimination of Belldandy are revealed.

Anyone that enjoys comedy and is looking for an easy to read manga, marked with beautiful art, should get themself's a copy of "Oh My Goddess!". It's not as charming as the first one, but who cares?

Book 4: Enter Mara
This graphic novel contains five stories in the popular "Oh My Goddess" series. The life of Belldandy and Keiichi continues to be explored with a powerful new foe to interfere in their life together.

The first tale is about Sayoko and Aoshima's attempt to discover Belldandy's secret. The second tale is slightly longer and deals with Keiichi and Belldandy racing as a team for the Nekomi Tech Motor Club in an off road race. Meanwhile Aoshima attempts to prevent them from winning. The third story covers Aoshima's attacks on the Nekomi Tech Motor Club by opening his own club and destroying their club house. Belldandy discovers a buried Shinden experimental plane from WWII which the club must repair in time for the school festival.

The fourth tale has one of Urd's love potions backfiring on her with humorous results. The final tale is a longer one and introduces us to the demon Mara. Mara is out to prevent Urd and Belldandy from doing as they please on Earth and her target is Keiichi.

Bottom line: Another good graphic novel that is a must-have for OMG fans. The intoduction of Mara as a powerful foe to the goddesses is a good one.

A really sweet read
I know I know, this is one of the most sugar sweet manga series there is out there, but I just can't help myself. My heart just melts for the sweet Belldandy. In this volume Keiichi must race against an American couple to win money for his broke motor club. The race is quite interesting especially when Belldandy passes out from using too much of her energy. Also the motor club finds the Shinden a plane prototype thatw as made for WW II, but never made it to the air, but with Keiichi's help its dreams will come true. Also, Demon first class Mara makes her first appearance using Sayoko in a plot to foil whatever the goddesses do. The most interesting story in the book is the title story. Urd makes a love potion that she intends to give Keiichi and Belldandy, but Tamiya makes her drink it, Then she is falling into any guys' arms who metions cherry blossoms. Weird but wonderful stuff. kono manga yonde kudasai!

The end was very shocking Icouldn't read it with out crying, I knew what all the characters were going though. I lost a friend last year to drugs. This book teaches very good lessons on the dangers of drugs and how takeing risks can be fatel. If you read this book I hope it teaches you something.

Realistic
I thought that the book was very good. It showed some good moral values without being boring. The book explains to teens how to deal with problems they face at school and at home. It also had a good storyline that was very creative and realistic at the same time. I recommend this book. It was very interesting and I learned something from this book along with having some fun. It wasn't super boring, and it wasn't unrealistic, either. Things in that book happen. It was fun to read. It wasn't one of those books where everything went perfectly and nothing went wrong. In fact, it was almost exactly the opposite. I like Regina's character. She acts like any other normal teenager. She isn't stupid even though she makes some mistakes. She isn't a goody goody, but she isn't super bad. She's normal. That's what I like about her. It mellows the book out without making it really boring. That is what I like about the book.

An awesome book!
Francine Pascals really did herself out this time. I loved this bok. It was so well written! I got so into the book that i felt bad for regina. I felt like i was at the drug party she went to and i was teary eyed when she died. Sweet valley is a GREAT series!
