A Truly Beatific and Beautiful Book!
... My girlfriend recommended I read this book, and I'm glad I listened to her. If you have ever read, and enjoyed, any of the many books of Carlos Castaneda ( now passed away - ? ) about his continuing adventures with ( and without ) the Native American Indian shaman-teacher, Don Juan, then you most certainly will also enjoy reading this series of "NO-EYES BOOKS" ( as some call them ) by the gifted author, Mary Summer Rain. ... What a beautiful writer! What a wonderful story! What an amazing set of visions!

... Yeah, she touches upon many of the standard "New Age" bases as she weaves her tale: aliens, alternative medicine, angelic beings, astral projection, astrology, back-to-nature living, dream symbololy, earth changes, ecology, herbology, meditation, mind-reading, Native American spirituality, parapsychology, prophecy, psychic powers, psycho-kinesis, reincarnation, shamanism, spirit-guides, UFO's, vision-quests, et al ... but she does it in a way that has a natural flow and with a a lightness of spirit that is not overbearing or overly serious. She draws you in, instead of hitting you over the head with her insights.

... Is No-Eyes a real person? ... Is Don Juan, or Jesus, or even Socrates? ... Ultimately, who cares? So what?! Or, "What so!," as No-Eyes would say. All that really matters are the archetypal truths conveyed by the narrative. These truths, and "lessons" of No-Eyes, are deep, profound, and life-affirming - and they are there to be appreciated by one and all, thanks to the wise writings of Mary Summer Rain.

... As she quotes No-Eyes on page 61: "Now, in old days Peoples love all stuff. They love trees, mountains, grass, animals, all stuff. Sacred powers were nature forces: wind, water, fire, lightning. Peoples know Father Sky and Earth Mother parents of all life. Every creature have spirit. All nature be People's church. It be bad stuff to force Great Spirit to crouch down into one building. Great Spirit everywhere! It forever duty of Peoples to every day give prayers to Great Mystery, to be thankful. These prayers more important to Peoples than food even. All Peoples see Great Spirit in black rain clouds, hear Him in thundering waterfalls. Peoples make all acts in life a sacred act. Peoples know sacred silence is voice of Great Spirit. This silence be ultimate balance of mind, body, and spirit. Peoples give away all one's stuff! They know stuff not where Great Spirit be. Stuff not important! Summer, that true love. That pure love!"

... How anyone cannot be charmed and moved by this wonderful little treasure of a book is beyond me! If you enjoyed reading Black Elk Speaks, you will enjoy this book. Also, we have all seen those maps of what the future of the planet is supposed to look like by, supposedly, the year 2012. Right? You've seen those maps! Well, remember, that this book was first published in 1985 - way before COMING EARTH CHANGES in 1996 by William Hutton, NOTES FROM THE COSMOS in 1997 by Gordon-Michael Scallion, and many of the other "future prophecy" books out there on the market were published. Remember that the next time you see one of those maps on someone's living room wall! ... One could also say that certain Native American people might take offense to their traditional spirituality being combined with and / or co-opted by "New Age-ism." As we all know, Native Americans very much resent their genuine religious beliefs being exploited by New Agers seeking glory and profit from their ancient wisdom. Nevertheless, Mary Summer Rain writes of these ancient and perenial truths with such respect and loving admiration that one would be hard-pressed to find fault with her. She really is sowing seeds of higher consciousness with these books, and she should be commended for that. ... YOWZA! - The Aeolian Kid

She reawakens the dormant places
This book is truly amazing. It opens your eyes to the thinks that have been closed and makes you pause to see what you have been doing in your life wihtout being judgemental. No-Eyes will win your heart and Mary Summer Rain will capture your mind and stay in there forever. Something about this book called out to me and without knowing why I reached for it and was unable to put it down. It will captivate you. I highly recommend Phoenix Rising and whatever else of Mary's you can get your hands on.

Seeing is Believing
Mary Summer Rain brings No-Eyes to life with her magnificent details and descriptions of No-Eyes and the Spirit World.

I would recommend any books by Mary Summer Rain especially her Dreams Book.

Peace be with you! Enjoy!

This Series Kicks Bootey
This trilgy of stories is the reason I love to read so much! I remeber back in 7th grade, I picked this book up on a whim, and I couldn't put the darn thing down until I read every single word! I highly recommed this one, as well as the other two in the series.

GREAT BOOK! Get this where ever you can!
Walking through my local bookstore one afternoon in December (lots of years ago) I found this book on a dusty old shelf.. and decided to buy it.. This normally isn't the kind of book I would grab but I was delightfully suprised.. I couldn't put this book down.. I read the whole book in 48 hours.. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a suspenseful novel without blood and gore.. This book will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. I haven't read the 2nd or 3rd in this series but I am expecting them soon. . . . .

The Suspense Keeper

Another meeting by chance, on a plane- one inspiring story.
On a United Airline flight returning home from a dental course in Feb/02 I had an incredible experience I would like to share. I sneakily sat in my co-workers assigned seat because it was an aisle seat, which I prefer. There was a lady in the window seat, but no one between us. She was very friendly and we shared some common conversation mainly regarding our two-hour delay. Her name was Dawn and we were both "going home" to Calgary.

She offered me a small book to read, mentioning she was an author. The book, based on a true story, was ready for final print and so I had a "rough" copy. However, it was quite impressive to me and I got settled into my seat to read "There Is No Them".

Several times while reading it, I stopped and wondered how something so compelling could end up in my hands and fit my life so perfectly. It seemed as though this book was written for our family, considering the health challenges we were going through with our youngest daughter, Brianne. I complimented her when I finished reading and thanked her for letting me read it. As I handed it back to her she told me to keep it and that if I ever came across anyone needing a fundraising tool, to give her a call.

I knew then that I sat in that seat for a reason. I had been entertaining the idea of a fundraiser for several months, but being so unfamiliar with it, had no clue where to start. I then told her about Brianne and our situation and we agreed this would be a great place to start.

We keep in touch and within a few short months, I had my first case of books that I sold in a very short time. Within four months I had sold eight cases of seventy-two (with the help of family and friends), which to me was quite encouraging. I have received nothing but great comments from all those who have read it.

It is an inspiring book, which leaves you with a heartfelt appreciation for life and for other people, especially those who may be going through a difficult time. It makes a great gift and can be passed along and used again, unlike many fundraising items.

So that experience taught me to be patient, that the Universe will provide you with the tools you need for your life, if you open your heart and watch for what comes your way. Today I am championing the cause that has taken my daughters life and have www.briannesbravebattle.com. I am so thankful for Dawn Holman, she is an incredible lady who has helped many, many people with her most gentle and inspiring words written in her book.

A Rare Gem of a Book
This book really affected me. Unlike other books inspired by the tragedy of 9-11, this one finds a way to engross you in the journey of a young man and takes you straight to the heart of the matter. I was amazed that an author could pack so much life wisdom into a seemingly normal interaction between two people who meet by chance.

Although it's an easy read, I found myself stopping between each page because it made me look at life in a way I never quite looked at before. It's quite profound in its interpretation on the real meaning of life. The insights kind of whisper at you and you feel good about discovering them. It's a good book to keep around and read whenever you need to look at the world through a larger lens. I found it liberating.

Difficult But Necessary
As a native New Yorker, this was not the easiest book to read. But as time removes the sting, I'd have to say that it might just have been what I needed to read back then. I felt compelled to read it a few times. It certainly packs a punch and leaves you no excuses for not getting on with life, like never before. So, I passed it along to people in my office.

Good
When i started reading this book, I found Hoh's books nonlikeale. In the last 4 books I read, the killer was easy to prodict. When I read this one I was blown away. The events that happened were good, and an unexpected ending. When I started reading this book, I thought it would be like R.L. Stine's No Answer and The Cheater. Both I hatted. This book was not like them. READ THIS BOOK!

Amazing!
I read "The Whisperer" by Diane Hoh for a book report. I'm in the 7th grade. I had 3 weeks to read the book but it was so good I read it in 2 days. I usually wait till the end and have about 100 pages to read in a day but I just couldn't stop once i started. Diane Hoh is my favorite author and i'm constantly looking for websites about her and more books. I also reccomend "Kidnapped" by Diane hoh. You'll love it!

Suspenseful but Entertaining
I read Nightmare Hall: The Whisper by Diane Hoh and it was such a great book. I could not put the book down every time I would try to put it down for the night something suspenseful happened and I kept on reading. In this story a girl named Shea is getting menacing phone calls right after an accident with her college teacher happens and the teacher gets put in the hospital. This book wasn't that hard to read but if you weren't concentrating not only are you missing out but you are sure to miss something important. I highly recommend this book to any one who likes suspense, mystery, and a little spook in their lives.

This is a (using Doug's word) Awesome Book!
Thank you so much, Mrs.Gunn. I have to say this is my first Sierra book, I have read. It's just the Wedding, and the kiss, and talks about purity is what made me read this one first. The Wedding, and their first kiss was wonderful. When I read the part about the rehersal, I was jumping and twirling around my school. Then the kiss made me scream and laugh cause of the Ushers. I cried at the shower, laughed out loud cause of the chicken, the only thing that got me is, when will Todd and Christy get married or if they ever will.I can't wait till the College Years when Sierra, Katie, Christy and Todd all go to the same college. I have to tell you, I'm a bookworm, I'm always reading these books, I cry alot of times and laugh alot and sometimes even scream. These books got me hooked, I give Godly advice away to my friends and tell them the lessons I've learned from these books. I especially like The Christy Miller Series, I gave comments in every book I have read. Thank you ,so very much!

Todd & Christy Forever! Doug & Tracy Forever! Paul & Sierra Forever! P.O. FOREVER!

Promises, Prayers, and Purity
This book is about Tracy and Doug's wedding. Sierra learns important lessons about purity. She promises God (and her future husband, whoever he turns out to be) to save herself for her future mate. This book will help teen girls realize the importance of staying pure. It really helped me. It's also filled with lots of romance and fun and will make you grow closer to God.

great!!!like a wish come true!!!
finally doug and tracy are getting married!!! their long awaited marriage is finally gracing us w/ its presence!! and you know how long a wait its been if you've read the Christy books. hooray. that (their wedding) was kinda obvious though since he proposed in #... i'm not saying. but though its a happy occasion little problems are creeping around the corners waiting to pop into Sierra's life and irritate her. what challenges will she face? will everything work out? how will she react when she experiences the celebration of purity firsthand? okay now i'm starting to sound like the back of the book, so i'll stop now. i think #3 is the best but this book is definitly close behind. its at least the second best, if not tied for first. definitely no doubt about it -- but only if you've read the Christy Miller series. otherwise it means nothing. absolutely nothing.

Deadtime Stories- Terror in Tiny Town
The characters in this book are very believable. They are pretty intresting. The characters are Willy and Hobo Hurley. The setting is believable. But its just Willy's house. The plot is believable. It's not everyday toys try to take over your house. The theme is sort of believable. The theme is don't treat your toys bad. But overall it was a good book.

"Hurley's the leader of the Pack. A very nasty pack."
With the addition of a Chucky look-alike miniature toy named Hurley the Hobo, weird things have started happening with Willy Tyler's train set called Tiny Town. The train runs all by itself in the middle of the night, there are unexplained messes in the house, and his toys are either missing or misplaced. But how did his toys move? Are they really alive? It's up to Willy and his best friend, Zack Miller, to find out--and stop these toys from uniting and trying to overtake his house.

"Terror in Tiny Town" is a fun and creepy book (particularly the ending), written by two sisters: Annette and Gina Cascone (thus creating the name A. G. Cascone). If this book is any indication of what the others are like, then Deadtime Stories is a promising series for preteens who like scary stories along the lines of R. L. Stine's Goosebumps books.

This book is DA BOMB
This book was awesome. I have read some of his other books and they are cool too. This one was cool because A. G. Cascone makes it feel like you are in the book with Zack and Willy.

This book changes everything
I'm a 20 year-old highly motivated student at a prestigious university. My entire life I've worked diligently so I could have a successful career. However, after I began reading this book, my thinking has been turned on its head. Now I can see that I've been motivated by all the wrong things: ego, self-aggrandizement, money, and status. This book has helped me understand all that motherhood used to be and could be. It is not a banal existence; there are beautiful possibilites open to the imaginitive mind. Our country was founded on the Protestant ethic that the most noble thing one could do is to be selfless, to give everything you have to your children and your family. My words are like gravel in the mouth compared to Robertson's eloquence. I wish I could capture the beauty of his words here. Please, read this book. It changes everything.

Extremely informative
Robertson shows how the best care is maternal care and why society is in denial of this fact. I found this book very informative and enlightening, and has forever changed the way I look at alternative child care and the media, whose refusal to tell the truth about parenting is causing the millions of children to be neglected.

Time for a rethink
The West is struggling with the related issues of women in the workforce, childcare, maternity leave, and family breakdown. The usual wisdom is to say that we just need to try harder to balance work commitments with family responsibilities. But Brian Robertson, a writer living in Washington DC, believes the answers lie elsewhere.

Indeed, from a historical perspective, the current crisis is really an anomaly. The modern feminist movement of the 60s taught that the only good woman is a career woman, and that homemaking and motherhood were to be despised and fled from. But interestingly, the women's movement prior to that fought for the right of a mother to stay at home with her young children, and not be conscripted into the paid workplace.

Thus the struggle for those in the earlier years of the women's movement was to protect women from the encroachment of market forces, and to prevent them from being forced into career at the expense of their families. Motherhood and homemaking, in other words, were seen as honorable and valuable ends in themselves.

But with the late 60s and onwards, the new wave of feminists took a totally different line: only in the paid workforce can a woman find meaning, freedom and dignity. Thus the vitriolic attack on mothers and the family. Betty Friedan therefore could call the home a "comfortable concentration camp" while Cosmopolitan editor Helen Gurley Brown could label a mother and housewife as "a parasite, a dependent, a scrounger, a sponger ' a bum".

A woman's freedom, said these feminists, meant that a woman should and could be independent both in the economic and the reproductive realms. Women just do not need men, and are better off without them. Establishing a career and gaining financial independence is the first goal of the modern woman. And millions of Western women bought this line of thought.

Of course now the inherent contradictions are coming all too clear. Women who were told that they could have it all are now fining that they have very little. They may have a good job, but they have no husband or boyfriend, no children and no family. And many today are deeply regretful of this fact.

But it is not just women who have suffered at the hands of feminist orthodoxy. Children have been the big losers. Millions of children today are being raised by strangers. Yet all the social science research shows that children desperately need their mums and dads. No day care system can ever compete with the love and attention of a mother and a father.

Yet as Robertson documents, while the social research on all this is quite clear, very few are willing to promote the findings, for fear of incurring the wrath of feminists and of making working mums feel guilty. So although the research is clear, that attachment is important for infants and mother-child bonding is crucial, millions of mothers are ignoring the evidence, and their maternal instincts, and are abandoning their children in droves.

The harmful effects of extended periods of time for young children in day care are well documented in this book. Even child care workers admit that they would not dare to leave their own children in day care. Yet many mothers have been so indoctrinated into believing that their needs and desires must come first, that they are offering their children second best.

And seeking to alleviate the problems by better day care, more workplace flexibility, or seeking to obtain an unobtainable balance between work and family just is not sufficient. And it is not just short-sighted governments offering these inadequate solutions. The corporate world in effect has bought the feminist myth as well that women can have it all. But the truth is, they can't have it all, at least not at the same time. Thus more corporate day care centres will not solve the bigger problems.

Indeed, the corporations are shooting themselves in the foot here. The really productive worker is the worker who has a happy and satisfying home life. But the corporate world, even with generous paid maternity leave policies, cannot stop the hemorrhaging of the family. Maternal deprivation is harmful to children, and unhappy children make for unhappy families, and unhappy families result in poor workers.

Governments also lose, as they seek to press women into the paid workplace, and do not deal with the root causes as to why so many families are forced to have two incomes. By bribing mums into the paid work place, whether by child care subsidies or other financial incentives, the growing problem of falling fertility rates, for example, will only increase. Less people mean less taxable income, and the inability to pay for expensive social welfare programs.

Thus both governments and businesses need to radically rethink what family-friendly workplaces actually mean. Robertson concludes by proposing some radical measures to put the interests of families first. These are predicated on the principle that human societies need the traditional family structure with a mother as the principal caregiver. Marriage and family are non-negotiable first principles. If that is accepted, then the following steps can be explored:

-Treat families as a unit in the tax code
-End "no-fault" divorce
-Replace the current welfare system with one that does not encourage illegitimacy and undermine intact families
-Pare back affirmative action legislation and programs
-Give all parents, not just those in the paid work place, child care credits or tax breaks.

These and other proposals, will help to ensure that real family-friendly policies are pursued. Yet Robertson knows that legal and economic change alone is not enough. The much harder cultural element needs to be addressed. But we have to start somewhere. And this volume is a good beginning point.

only story on female humans in atheism
I enjoyed this book. Not only is the story of atheism (and antitheism) difficult to find info on, but the story of female humans in atheism and science is also difficult to find info in.

This is one of the only books I have found that tells the stories of women in atheism. I would enjoy seeing a video on atheism, and also female humans in atheism and science. I would enjoy seeing, hearing and reading stories of humans that spoke out against religion and promoted science.

Finding images of these female humans is also difficult to do. This book includes humans I had never heard of, but also any body that did any thing for female human equality. For example, I was very glad to see a photo and data on Matilda Joslyn Gage, a person usually left out of women's history because of her anger with religion, and perhaps because of her sexuality.

My one criticism of this book is that the people are kind of tame (although being atheist is shocking for most humans). Where are the female humans in science...? Still, for one of the only books (or videos for that matter) on free thinking women (or women without superstition and substition!) I was glad and enjoyed every story!

Why didn't I study this stuff in school
I wish I had been given the chance to study this stuff in school. I spent a long time struggling with these ideas. If only I had access to this book at an earlier age. Great book, wonderful works by highly intelligent authors. Helped me to cast off my old doubts.

women without superstition
A great collection of writing from woman of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Any woman who is enjoying todays freedom (still a way to go) should read this book and appreciate the efforts of these writers and to the ridicule, insults, threats etc. they weathered. A tearjerker any time...
Asimov in his introduction to the short story, put it as a "tear-jerker" and his second favoutite story. It is my all-time favourite though - a wonderful read. The novel is good - there is some expansion on the Neanderthal times from where the boy is brought as a specimen to today's world. But what is truly relevant here is the way the maternal feelings grow in Nurse ???(whats her name) and how mutual love develops between the two. The finale is brilliant. I would recomment all to read this one. There is nothing special in the "Silververg" part as I see it. The short story of Asimov is what carries the thing through - and so, you may as well read the short story. Its his finest tale.

What a Sci Fi literary Duo!
"A remarkably moving and chilling tale of what happens when past and present collide..." A charming and nostalgic trip into the past when SciFi really had a plot...

great story
Wow, Asimov and Silverberg really know how to tell a story. This is the best sf novel I've read in a long time.

Lots of fun for parents and kids
The illustrations in this book are top notch -- vivid colors, with excellent detail on the rabbit. There are no backgrounds, but that's okay, because that's not what the book is about. One of the fun things about this book is onomatopoeia: it helps to get the parent involved.

Not suprisingly, a book about colors also has a social message, and in this case it is well done: it doesn't hit you over the head like other children's books. It's also a bit of a surprise because there's no hint of it until the last page.

Overall a fun book to share.

Teaching the Colors.
Out of all the books at the day care center I worked at, this by far was the favorite and most requested book of the kids. I don't know why, but whether the unit for the week was colors, animals, or Easter this book had to be read several times during story time and was often read just for fun. Surprisingly, none of we teachers ever tired of reading the book. The copy of the book at the center was read so many times that the back cover literally fell off. The book uses a white rabbit to illustrate how by mixing primary colors, secondary colors are made. Not only that but the book helps introduce children to "sensations" that colors can cause; for example white rabbit thinks dunking in blue will feel cool and that red is sizzling. A wonderful little book.

Great book
This is a great book for little ones. It is my baby's favorite book at this time. He is almost 13 months old and I can sit and read him this book over and over again and he is interested each time. He tries to read it himself! It's a cute book with great pictures and not too many words so you can turn the pages quickly keeping your child's interest and still read the whole story. I haven't read the other little rabbit books yet, but intend to get them all.
