Great start to the worlds best series!
Oh my gosh this was SO good! It was about Ashleigh Griffen, a 12 year old, who's parents breeding farm is destroyed by a virus. Now they are breeding managers at Townsend Acres, and Ashleigh falls in love with a mare named Holly, who soon gives birth, but the foal is weak. Now Ashleigh must forget her hurtful past and try to save the filly. I thought this book introduced this unbelievably awesome series well. But make sure you read this book first, it makes more sense and makes the series more enjoyable.

A Horse Called Wonder *a really good book*
I'm 20 and i'm a jockey in Vancouver and i have been around horses ever since i was a baby, like Ashleigh has. This book is a really good example for all horse lovers. It gives all the confidence one needs and throughout all my 17 years of riding, I have never read about or met anyone like Ashleigh in the story. This book realy can teach a lot and i think Joanna Campbell really knows lots about horses. Anyway, in this book, it talks about Ashleigh. She moved into Townsend Acres and one day, a foal is born sick, weak and unhealthy.Mr. Townsend, thinks that she won't make it too become a good racehorse so decides to send her to the auction. Ashleigh isn't giving up and names the foal Wonder while she spends all her time looking after the foal and feeding her. Charlie Burke, the retired trainer, helps Ashleigh with the care and teaches her more of what she had to know. Then eventually, Clay Townsend, the owner of Townsend Acres, agrees to kepp Wonder!

' One from the Day World where two eyes are watching'
I think this is my favourite Night World book of the nine I've read so far. Jez Redfern is the main character, and the story is about what happens to her when she turns from a vampire gang leader into a vampire hunter after discovering she's half human. This is the first of the 'Wild Power' Night World books. In this one, Jez has to search for a Wild Power and to do so has to rejoin her old gang who have evidence of a sighting of one. This book has a great surprise ending and Jez is a brillant character who really comes alive. The only thing I don't like is her soulmate, Morgread. He doesn't suit her. The poem which ends this book also ends the other 'Wild Power' books in this series: One from the land of kings long forgotten, One from the hearth which still holds a spark, One from the Day World where two eyes are watching, One from the twilight to be one with the dark.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!
ok guys, this is it. definitely l.j smiths best, and i've read every single one of hers except the heart of the valor and night of the solstice. number 7 in the nightworld series, l.j smith brings a new twist into this series. wild powers. the world as we know it is ending, and hugh from circle daybreak turns to jez redfern, half vampire, half human, and a vampire slayer to help find them. her search leads her back into a past she has longed to forget, and reawakens old loyalties. can jez resist her crave for blood??? and what does she really feel about morgead, childhood rival?? and, of course, who IS the wild power???

-Huntress by L.J Smith
I think that Lisa Jane Smith is an exceptional author! behind Tolkien. Like Francine Pascale (author of fearless) she's got this thing that makes you want to go on reading until you've finished the book.Huntress like the rest of the series is a very original story...it's too cool

Earth is a tough neigborhood, especially if you're Ax
Aximili, the brother of Prince Elfangor is an andalite (a morphing alien that looks like a deer, human and scorpion), was discovered by the animorphs (five kids that are the only humans that can use the power to turn into any animal they touch)at the bottom of the sea. Since then he has worked side-by-side with them. But there are certain things he cannot explain. It would be breaking andalite law. Yet there is a law he has not fufilled: to kill Visser Three, the only yeerk to infest an andalite and the murderer of his brother. But since the animorphs know he's been keeping secrets from them, it seems like he has to go it alone. This is the first Aimorphs book to be narrated completely by Ax and is the funniest one.

Reader over 25
As always, I'm obviously way over the target age group. I'm taking the time to review each Animorphs book as I reread the entire series. My hope is to give parents, teachers, and anyone else the point of view of an adult who's outside the usual reading age for the series. Other reviewers have already given the overall plot, so I'm here with a few other thoughts. As other reviewers have commented, this book is very much about choices, and has a large dose of good humor involved. This is the first of the series which doesn't have heart pounding action and battles throughout the story, yet it remains just as entertaining. Ax is very amusing, and the story imaginative, giving readers a peek into Andalite culture and their people. Ax's race is one which holds rituals which are much different than our own, and honor is held in very high regard. It's a story about a young boy who is far, far away from his home, with his culture's heavy burdens which he must bear. The choices are huge to him, because someone once broke a law they now call Seerow's Kindness, and released a chain reaction which has made billions suffer for it. Should he, then, break that same law, even if he thinks its for the best -- even vital to the Animorphs winning the war? If he does, what repercussions will it have, because he ultimately doesn't understand who he's dealing with? The humans are as alien to him as Ax is to them. In an accident, he reprograms software for Marco's father. Ax thought it was nothing but a child's game to find all the errors, and fixed them in a few minutes. Not realizing what he did, he hands the ability for Zero Space travel to humanity. What if the Yeerks find out, for surely they will know it was an Andalite and not a human? In undoing that, he could also use it to call his parents, so far away. The book is about loneliness, too, in a way that everyone can relate to in some way. True to Animorphs style, however, its told through a young alien to make it new and interesting. There is also friendship, trust of utter outsiders on both sides, dealing with fears both huge (when Ax has to face Visser Three and doubts he'll survive) or small. Ax has to decide if he'll use the technology to call his people, another decision which goes against everything he'd been taught about Seerow's Kindness and his people's laws. There's laughter in this, a good story, and a whole lot more as the reader learns about Andalites first hand, and for the first time. A very excellent read and addition to the series.

An Very good book
This book is very good, he makes contact with the Andalite home world and he *almost* kills Visser Three

And so Roswell is born..
I'm a die-hard Roswell fan so it's hard for me not to like this book, but people who do not watch the series will like it too. The book is aimed at a young teen audience and because of that, the writing can be very simplistic. I still enjoyed it. I didn't need an elaborate writing style to evoke the world of Roswell for me. Metz has wit and writes her characters very well. One of the wonderful things about the Roswell High books is the humor. You will never run out of one-liners! The romance and sci-fi and action elements are balance perfectly - by the end you will have no choice but to buy the 2nd one. Trust me...I tried to resist, but ended up getting all ten. (I suggest buying 2 or 3 books at a time...you'll get through them pretty fast.)

If you love the TV show you will love this book. There are a few differences such as name changes or the Pod-squad's mythology. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that Max Evans had blonde hair! (I read it and change it to brown in my mind - I know...what can I say? I'm a fan.) All in all it's a great read - A lot of fun.

Roswell a great book for Teens
This book is about Isabel, Max, and Michael being a little diffrent from ordinary teenagers at their highschool. Little did Maria and Liz know that they are about to be in to this big secret. That Max, Isabel, and Michael had survived the Roswell crash in 1959. The were incubated in a a hard substance and were put up for adoption at a young age. Now still living in Rosewell, New Mexico they want to learn more about their past lives and meet their real parents. Until Sheriff Valenti comes to town and has a wierd feeling about these three teenagers. How will Maria and Liz handle this news when they find out this big secret? How will they react? Read the book and you will find out! I think that this book is a most read for all people that enjoy the TV show on Wednesday nights. If you read the books you will have a better understanding of the plot of the show. If you love Science Fiction books this is also a most read. But I think that for now I'll stick with the TV show.

Over and Over
"The Outsider" was an awsome I could not put it down. It is really interesting how they mix alien life and human life together. And it is very action filled. I would read it a second time just to get the juice going. And the characters are very intersesting and the author Melinda Metz is a very good writer. I would say that readers anywhere from 12-25 could read this cause it is interesting.

A Very Moving Story..........
Unfortunately, the only copy of The Count of Monte Cristo I could find was the unabridged version in my school library. At the time I was glad I was reading the short version, 1,500 pages seemed a little too overwhelming at the time. But after reading the short version, I found myself wanting more. I could tell when they cut stuff out and it drove me crazy, I kept wondering what I was missing.

I found myself wanting to read this book in the first place because I saw the commercials for the movie on t.v. (Which I know I'm not going to watch because they changed everything.) My mom told me it was a really good book so I checked it out. It took me a little bit to read because of school and chores. But once I picked it up I read 20 or 30 pages at a time. Sometimes more. Alexandre Dumas is a genius. His writing style is so unique. He draws a beautiful picture inside the readers head. All the characters in this book were multidimensional. I'm not used to seeing characters like that.

At the beginning of the book Edmond Dantes was leading a happy, perfect life. He was engaged to the woman he loved, Mercedes. He was going to become a captain. And he had wonderful friends. But before he knows it his wonderful life becomes nothing but misery and pain. Two of his so-called friends, blackmails him and he's thrown into a dank prison for being a Bonapartist. Over the long harsh years ahead of him he plots his revenge on the people who sent him there. . .

I'd love to tell you more, but there aren't enough words in the world to describe the impact this story had on me. I'll just give you a quick overview: This story is mostly about a man who gets revenge on those who made his happy life miserable. He slowly ruins their lives and they don't even realize it's him. No one recognizes him, except Mercedes, but she doesn't let him know for a long time. She becomes a very weak woman, who lives only for her son. But she still loves Edmond and I believe in some ways he still loves her. But he's a completely different person, then. He knows their time has passed.

This book is very well written and has all the elements of a good story. Romance, adventure, revenge, mystery...And anything else you can think of. I'm going to have a hard time reading a book after this one. Other books will pale in comparison, I'm sure. Someday, I'll read the abridged version, but not today. . . Maybe when I'm older and have enough patience and time to read the whole thing. This story will stay with me forever, even if I never read it again.

true symphony between justice and revenge
"The Count of Monte Cristo" is an intriguing tale of retribution. The complex and rivetting plot revolves around Edmond Dantes, a idealistic and principled young man who is unwittingly framed for a serious crime, and sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison. There he meets a man who will change his life...and point him towards freedom and his means of vengeance on those who have wronged him. Without a doubt, this novel is a masterpiece, attaining the balance of true symphony between justice and revenge. The characterization and atmosphere portrayed is rich enough to evoke anyone's imagination. Dumas' attention to detail adds to the ambiance and vivacity of the tale. As a fitting testament to it's nearly be rushed, rather savored. The unabridged version (875 pages) is a must, with its banquet of flavorful scenes - it is a full course meal for any hungry bookworm - the abridged version is merely a buttered cracker. "The Count of Monte Cristo" is one of my most treasured novel and, without hesitation, by far the best book I have ever read! I stand by this opinion so ardently, that I always keep extra copies of it in my bookshelf, in case I meet with someone who will really appreciate it. Avid readers, enjoy!

A great book.
The Count of Monte Cristo is an amazing story filled with action, betrayal, romance, and vengeance. Edmond Dantes is a young sailor who has everything he needs in life. He has a wife and a large amount of money to start a family. He is betrayed by his friends and sent to the dreaded Chateau d'If, and is imprisoned for life. Edmond thinks his life is over, so he swears vengeance to all who betrayed him. Edmond makes a miraculous escape and puts his plans into motion. He is determined to gain vengeance and nothing thrown in his way will stop him. He adopts the name Count of Monte Cristo and becomes friends with the ones who betrayed him. He gains his vengeance slowly by revealing little secrets about each of them, while revealing nothing at all about him. This is a story of a man who was wrongfully accused, and was able to escape and return the favor to his friends. The Count of Monte Cristo is an amazing book by Alexandre Dumas, and it is also one of his best.

The Entire Series Is (Still) Phenomenally Brilliant
What? Only five stars? I need more to do this series justice! Patricia C. Wrede writes marvelous fantasy. It's like "Mixed-Up Fairy Tales" or something, but funnier, more engaging, and ripe for repeat reading (After graduating from high school, I read the entire series for the third time in a matter of days). These are timeless tales. Even her NAMES are inventive. Cimorene, Mendanbar, Kazul, Morwen, Telemain, Daystar, Shiara...and let us not forget Zemenar and Antorell. The chapter headings induce chuckles immediately, simply by their existence. She writes in a style that incorporates intelligent fantasy with enjoyable humor. The characters are some you would like to know personally. And nowhere else have I seen as unique a discussion of magic in its many forms as in these four books. I did notice a trend of centralization. Dealing was Cimorene's book. Searching was Mendanbar's. Calling was Morwen's. Talking was Daystar's. I wish the series was not concluded, because I'd love to see Telemain's book. And perhaps Kazul's book could be somewhat of a prequel. Oh, and what about a book from Antorell's perspective? That would make for an incredibly funny story. The Enchanted Forest and its surrounding is a world I want to know about. Not many authors can create an entire world that entices the reader so greatly. But Mrs. Wrede has. Unlike the Douglas Adams' Hitchiker's Guide series, which got progressively worse, each book in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles compares to the original, as fresh and brilliant as ever. Needless to say, this series is one of the best ever. I have not really sampled a lot of the adult fantasy by Piers Anthony and Anne McCaffrey and such, but I doubt they can compare with the Enchanted Forest Chronicles. This is not mindboggling fantasy like the Lord of the Rings trilogy: this is fun. Oh, and remember: ..."Argelfraster."

Wonderful book!
I must say, after reading all of the books in the Enchanted Forest series I was rather skeptical of this one. My first thoughts centered around my disappointment of the main character. "No more Cimorene?" I thought. Well this book just proved that you don't need all the originals to make a good sequel. The characters from the first three books (Kazul, Cimorene and Mendanbar plus more I believe) all make appearances, but the story this time centers around Daystar, Cimorene and Mendanbar's son from the third book. Since Mendanbar was frozen inside the castle at the end of the third book and Cimorene can't just go in and save him, it's up to Daystar. He carries with him the magical sword, and discovers a variety of wonderful and exciting characters, including the tempramental yet dazzling Shiara. A must read!

Book that keeps you hooked!
This book was the last book of four, and is probably my favorite out of them all. This book leads you on an adventurous tale throgh the lives of a woman and her son that are trying to save her husband and his father from the castle that has been blocked with magic and prevents them from getting in, or him getting out. I would reccomend this book to kids and adults 8 and up

What a Fantastic Book!
Although this book has been out for 5 years I just learned about it and picked it up in my local book store. It is one of the best books I've read in a long time.

Dougless Montgomery comes from the famous Montgomery family. She met a successful doctor, Robert, who doesn't want a commitment, however, Dougless and Robert decide to plan a trip to England a year from the day the move in together. Then, they will decide if they want to marry.

On their way to the airport for their long awaited trip to England, Robert says he has a surprise for Dougless. At the airport, her dreams are squashed when Robert's daughter Gloria shows up and she turns out to be a most obnoxious child that Robert indulges sinfully.

While the three of them are visiting a church, Dougless and Gloria get into an argument. Robert, of course, sides with his daughter and they leave Dougless stranded at the church in the country without her money or passport. Douglass goes into the church and cries on the tomb of Nicholas Stafford, the Earl of Thornwyck. Suddenly he appears out of sixteenth century England. At first Douglass doesn't believe that he's from the sixteenth century. She finds his way of dress strange, his talk ridiculous and the fact that he doesn't know what a car is or how to use the bathroom is strange as well. Eventually Nicholas convinces Douglass and the two set to finding out who set Nicholas up for treason in Elizabethan times.

Finding no answers, Nicholas resigns himself to stay in the 20th century and acknowledges that Douglass is the love of his life. Suddenly Nicholas is taken back in time. Douglass is at a loss, but she is determined to find the answers to clear his name. Then Douglass is taken back in time to 1560 and finds herself at Nicholas's home, although Nicholas does not remember her.

Douglass must win over Nicholas's trust to change history again, knowing that once it is changed she will be dragged back to the twentieth century.

I have copies of this book everywhere I go
Knight in Shining Armor is without any doubt the best romance I have ever read, time travel not whithstanding. I could totally relate to this modern day heroine's difficulty in dealing with dating a man with a spoiled child (my husband had three). She smolders while he puts said child's wishes first (hmmmmm, so true and familiar lol). Then the book really takes off as she is basically abandoned by her boyfriend and is weeping in an ancient church. Here comes the knight, Nicholas. From that page on the book is often side-clutchingly laugh-out-loud as Dougless the heroine tries to help her bewildered time traveler make his way through the modern world to try to return to his own and redress some family wrongs that were part of history. The ending is very surprising, and I was more than satisfied with it. So laugh, cry, (well, Dougless does that rather a lot and it IS said to rid the body of toxins) and just don't plan anything for a while if you are a slow reader. :)

The first Animorphs
I'm back again, here to tell you about the first Animophs book. It's told by Jake, the leader of the Animorphs, and it tells how Jake and the others meet Elfongor, the andalite prince fatally injured in a battle between his species and the evil (mostly) parasitic yeerks, and get the morphing power. It is extreamly well-told, with good descriptions of the aleins and feelings and emotions explained well. Alot of the story takes place in the abandened construction site, whare the Animorphs first see the yeerks, including Visser Three who has an Andalite host body and watch as he brutally kills Elfongor. But they now have the morphing power, so the natural leader Jake, his feirce cousin Rachel, gentle Tobais, smart mouthed Marco and Animal lover Cassie start the battle to save the world, equiped with with the DNA of any mammal, bird, reptile or insect they touch. An exelent book to start off an exelent sereis.

PS For those of you who can't work out the naration order of Animorphs, book numbers ending in 1 or 6 are Jake books, 2 and 7 are Rachel books, 3 are Tobais books, 4 and 9 are Cassie books, 5 and 0 are Marco books and 8 are Ax books, although this order changes at book 46.

You Gotta Love Animorphs
When Animorphs was still an active book series, I remember I loved them. K.A. Applegate provided thrilling books on the Yeerk invasion and the quests of Jake, Rachel, Marco, Cassie, Tobias, and Ax to stop them. This is a great introduction to the Sci-Fi genre of books.

This is the first book that started it all. The characters are introduced and they cut through the abandoned construction site only to find the dying Andalite prince Elfangor. Elfangor warns the kids of the Yeerks and gives them the morphing power- power to aquire DNA of animals and morph into them. The Animorphs realize that the Yeerks who are parasites that can enter peoples' heads, led by the evil Visser Three have infested thousands of people including Jake's brother. They sneak into the Yeerk Pool to see the horrors of the Yeerk Invasion and Tobias gets stuck as a red-tailed hawk, becasue he abused the 2-hour limit for each morph.

This book starts an awesome series. The only problem is that K.A Applegate takes only a month to write each book, so some could be more thought-out, but still it is a great series, and I have little complaints.

And so starts 66 reviews....
The Animorphs series is actually just 65 books, but there was one parody made, so i'll include that. Anyway, the Animporh series spans 54 'regular' books, 4 Megamorphs, 1 "meet the cast of animorphs" book, 2 "Alternamorphs" books, 5 'Chronicals" books, and one parody. Each book is told from the perspective of one of six people: Jake, Rachel, Tobias, Marco, Cassie, and Ax. This book focuses on Jake, and is the start of the series. Nearly each book starts the same, "My name is ______. Just ______." Anyway, this book tells about how Jake and the crew (minus Ax, we don't know about him until the 6th book) gained the power to morph from a dying alien. He warned them of an enemy, Yeerks, which are parasitic aliens that crawl in through your ear and controll your brain. The power to morph allows them to become animals. However, they cannot stay in a morph for more than 2 hours or they will be stuck in that morph forever!

The Lost Years of Merlin (Lost Years of Merlin, No 1)

An interesting look at Merlin
The Lost Years of Merlin is a very well written, smart work about on of fantasy's most interesting characters, Merlin the wizard. These books take place before he ever met King Arthur, or lived in Camelot, but detail his life as a teenager and how he began the road to becoming the Merlin that we know.
This book, and the four others that follow, show an extrordinary effort at character building and personality.
The book starts as Merlin, Emrys, washes ashore, his memory gone, and a women besides him. He has no memory of what had happened, and the women, who claims to be his mother, raises him.
Emrys grows up learning about the Greek gods and myths and around the age of eleven, begins to feel the magical powers he soon learns to master. But he and his mother are attacked and he looses his eyes and is scarred by the magic in its raw potential.
Soon, regains a sort of sight, a second sight. Wanting to find out who he really is, he goes to the ocean where he washed ashore and builds a boat to take him to a magical land that he was told that he and his mother come from.
He arrives on the island, and is confronted with evil. The island is being overtaken by an evil king and his master, and going with a girl, Rhia, and a Merlin, Trouble, he goes to confront the king to save his friends and to save the island.

The story overall is sort of cliched, in and about the evil king, young hero who goes to save all, and all of that, but despite this, Barron manages to weave a complicated tale and world beautifully. Fincayra, the island, is a world that lies between heaven and earth, and has a vast array of magical and interesting people, animals and creatures. This is a world of fantasy, with many elements from every aspect of fantasy mixed in.
The island's discription is well done and detailed. After reading this book, I went right back to the library and then bookstore to buy the rest of the series, hoping to read some more of this incredible story.

The Lost Years of Merlin--Incredible
This book is simply one of the most amazing books I have ever read. T.A. Barron's ability to conjure such an amazing world gives it an almost lifelike quality, as if could have actually taken place. The engaging plot will have you rooted to the spot until the story is finished. As time progresses, you will explore the changes that Merlin finds within himself, and how he greatly affects the world around him. His presence on the island of Fincayra creates a whole new chapter in history, explaining how many things in modern day Merlin tales came about.

At long last, the story of Merlin's childhood comes about, and it could not have been portrayed in a more imaginative, creative, or realistic way. It is astounding how T.A. Barron created a world that complemented Merlin's history so well, despite the fact that it does not include a plethora of historical references. This is simply a revolutionary book in the world of fantasy and should be read many times over by lovers of any genre. The adventures of Merlin are truly amazing.

Worthy of Excalibur
After combing through each Harry Potter book at least twice, I complained that there was nothing to read. Then, a put a small book called the Lost Years of Merlin on my shelf, thinking I'd never read it. Then, one night, it was way past 12:00 and I'd combed through all my other books trying to get to sleep. Then I chose this one. This book is a great book- take a thoguht provokiing story, thourughly developed characters, some really great fantasy creatures, and a string of battle scenes and you get a book called The Lost Years of Merlin, truly worthy of the title National Bestseller- Take that, Davinci Code!

Secret Vampire (Night World, No 1)
Published in Paperback by Simon Pulse (June, 1996)
Author: Lisa Jane Smith
Amazon base price: $3.99
Used price: $3.20
Collectible price: $15.95
If you think light romantic horror has to be poorly written, you haven't tried L.J. Smith. Meet the denizens of the "Night World," a secret society of "creatures of the night" that has only two rules: never reveal its existence to humans and never fall in love with them. Smooth and exciting, this is froth at its best. Smith's fans will also be thrilled and chilled by the re-release of one of her most popular titles, The Hunter.

A good start to the Night World series.
Like all of L. J. Smith's books, Secret Vampire is a quick, thrilling read. Poppy is an ordinary teenage girl who at sixteen years old finds out that she is dying of cancer. That's when James, her best friend who she has secretly been in love with for years, reveals to her that he is a vampire and that he can offer her a cure - eternal life as a vampire. Now Poppy must make a choice - she can die or she can become a vampire. I especially like the ending, but I won't spoil it for you. All I can say is this book is awesome and amazing.

i'm not through yet, but its great so far!
i shouldnt be rating this (i haven't finished it yet!), but it is wonderful so far. i'm just at the part where poppy dies and phil goes into a rage. what i'm really rating, tho, is the book in this series called "Soul Mates." i would rate it at its page, but i havent found its page! the book is about Thierry (1st made vampire, oldest guy vampire, lord of the night world) who tries to find Hannah (hana of the 3 rivers, thierry's soulmate). there is a small problem, though - hannah gets upset over something thierry did the very 1st time they met (hannah's had lots of past lives) and Maya (world's oldest vampire, wants thierry for herself) messes w/ hannah's head. it really is a great book and i give it *****. you should try to find it someplace and read it, if you like secret vampire. i'd list other books, but, so far, i've only read those 2. feel free 2 email me at lis5998@alloymail.com. - :)
