One who gets it right
As the author so amply demonstrates, it is impossible for reincarnation to exist; reincarnational "memories" are nothing more than a form of multiple personality. As he writes, if it did exist, it would be the greatest boon to history known. All we would to do is hypnotize someone and find out what really happened in the past. Yet out of the thousands of "memories" accessed, all have been shown to be fantasies contructed by the mind. Not one has ever been shown to be true. Although he doesn't address the issue, since the population is continually increasing, where are all these new people coming from? Atlantis, maybe? A well-needed debunking of an embarrassing myth believed by far too many fuzzy-minded people.

absolutely fascinating forensic analysis of reincarnation
Extremely well researched, fascinating theoretical view of the possible underpinnings of personality and experience synthesis in the human mind thru access of total recall and construction of alternate memory/personality

MRC Analysis---good book overall
Cohen and Cohen's MRC analysis book is well versed and easy to understand for someone that is familiar with MRC terminology, however, for first year graduate students, the text is very equivocal. The book is lacking ample illustrations of complex problems, leaving students to rely on outside sources. Also, the book uses unfamiliar symbols that do not correspond with other MRC books, which intensifies the confusion level of the students even more.

Overall, the text is a great addition to a statistical library, and this reviewer recommends it, in spite of being a sub-par book for first year graduate students.

Can't beat it
...This book is the source of all you need. It's hard going at times, but so's the subject. The book's 15 years old and remains the best guide to the analysis of correlated data. It's a reference book, one I value as much as a good dictionary. To use it as a text would be misguided unless the instruction was aimed at a sophisticated audience.

Best MRC Book Ever
I agree with the previous reviewer that there are times when the exposition in the book gets a bit intense; but c'mon! We're dealing with statistics. You gotta sweat a bit. That's when learning happens. In my opinion the book is extremely clearly written. And although you may have to re-read a few sentences a few times, the basic tools for understanding most every major aspect of MRC is embedded in the text. In sum, this was a great book that I read as a 2nd-year graduate student in psychology. Unlike the first reviewer, I turned to this text when I got confused during the course lectures!

revolutionary
This book has revolutionized the way psychologists think about interactions. It provides step-by-step instructions on how to probe the moderating effects after you find a significant interaction in a multiple regression.

The basic idea about interaction is that the relationship between two variables were different according to a third variable. For example, some risk factors (such as poor family income) may affect children's academic achievement in a negative way. However, if the parents provide enough support on their children's study, then it's possible that the risk factors will no longer influence their children test scores. Therefore, with low support, risk factors are very effective, but with high support, risk factors have not effects. This book teaches you how to probe this relationship in a systematic way, it covers 2-way, 3-way interactions and also quardratic relationships.

If you fully understand this book, the techniques you have will be enough for a masters thesis in your area.

A MUST have for anyone using regression analysis
This book takes a very practical approach to the analysis of interactions in regression. No other book I've used has covered these topics as clearly or in as much depth. The extensive discussion of decomposing interactions is a prime example. With the push to replace old techniques of dichotomizing continuous variables with a continuous (regression) treatment of these variables (especially in psychology), this book is extremely important.

Invaluable and accessible
Back when the book was first published, I was completing doctoral research. Aiken & West provided the explanations and instructions that enabled me to complete my dissertation. Nowhere else have I seen the information they provide; seldom have I seen statistical treatments as clearly and easily explained. Like many in the social sciences, math was not my greatest intellectual ability. This book made computing and understanding regression interactions a relative breeze. One reviewer bemoaned the lack of information on interactions among categorical variables. I suppose he didn't read the preface that specifically explains the reason for the absence: such information is widely available in any good statistical text. What Aiken & West provide can't be found elsewhere in any real depth. I am ordering another copy of the book because I'm tired of loaning out my copy to colleagues, especially one who has now begun to copy whole chapters. Yes, it's that useful.

Not a classroom textbook!
This is probably a great textbook for people who are already truly familiar with statistics. But, then again, I guess even you wouldn't need this book. My graduate class used this book as well as another better text equally thick and expensive. The end result - this was an overall worthless purchase. Students typically ended up purchasing additional books, borrowing library books, and using statistical information from the web. For the professor that's serious about teaching a wonderful subject, find a better text. For the professor that considers this to be a wonderful classroom text, non-working SPSS syntax included, find a better profession or seriously consider using a committee to assist you in future textbook selections. Some of the notations are downright hideous. If you're a student whose professor has chosen this to be one your textbooks, spend this time to search for another text to use in addition to it, immediately, or if possible, find a different professor, this is simply a sign of worse things to come.

below average
Your typical stat book written by a typical stat professor: dull, dry, and boring and geared towards other professors instead of people who might actually want to *learn* something.

There are a lot of good stat books out there, but you will never find them in class. Tolerate this book if it is assigned for the class, but buy something a lot better if you really want to learn about regression.

Look before you leap!
Looking at the other reviews of this book you will notice that one is favorable, one is against, and one is neutral. The book is fat (most comprehensive stats books are) - at least you can use it as a paper wieght. The demonstration of multiple computer packages may be a waste (especially since the packages keep adding new functions, etc.), however, pseudo code would not be helpful to newbies, who probably wouldn't understand it. Yes, Pedhazur's notation is lame, but the book is fairly comprehensive about regression (it would be nice if repeated measures type studies were mentioned though). ...
