John Perkins, author of "The World Is As You Dream It" and "Shapeshifting"

I love this book
To read The Soul of Money is to sit down and have a memorable, life-altering conversation with an extraordinary, courageous, deeply thoughtful and committed soul. Lynne speaks intimately and passionately from each page. The book does a beautiful job of untangling the mess in which almost all of us have learned about money, and then offers important opportunities and challenges to each of us about ways to enrich our lives and those of all around us.

This book can help us change the soul of our nation/world
The Soul of Money is fully worth the praise it is getting and far more. Rooted in sufficiency and backed by moving stories situated throughout the world, this book will inspire you, enlighten you, give you hope, and certainly will make you cry.

If this book can help those of us who have been siting on the fence looking for the motivation to invest our souls in the transformation of this world, join those who are engaged in this effort, I believe that we truly can change the world. I believe that Lynn's message is one to help move all of us into activism, whether it is quiet or out there.

My personal commitment is to engage. Lynne asked me at her book signing during a conversation if I had invested in the Pachamama Alliance. I had been taking the newsletter but did not believe I was in a position to participate. I had to say no and I felt small knowing that I could have but did not participate. Oh I had my excuses, many of us do. I made a commitment to invest and I did. First a small donation to the Pachamama Alliance; then a visit to the adoption agency from which I was blessed with my little girl from India; next calls to NGO's working in the Telangana in India looking for ways to donate my time; and finally a commitment to bring Lynne to Yamhill County Oregon for a fundraiser, workshop and a book signing.

Yes I am moving out of my comfort zone of non-action and it is based on Lynne and her inspiring message. Please read this book, yes, but more than that, please join me in taking action to transform our nation and world.

Thank you Lynne for your great work though out the world and for funneling your experiences and insights into this great book.

Hip Handbook - Lifetime Reference
WOW!! Where was this book in 1986 when I graduated high school and went away to college - living on my own for the first time? Too bad the authors were only 11 years old at the time! Here I am, 16 years later, opened the Hip Girl's Handbook and found out how to do things I was either afraid of or always wanted to know about, but afraid to ask. Thanks to Jennifer and Patty for putting their heads together and creating this compilation of wonderful information! It's hip, it's easy, it's cool and will inspire anyone to do anything they never thought they could! This reliable resource is a must for anyone, any age! A great gift to yourself or someone else!

A Must Have!!!!
This book is fantastic! I am sending it for Christmas or birthday gifts to all of my married and single friends. It is so practical - especially the car tips - but also just a great book to read. There is definitely no book like this. Most helpful books are boring "how to" books - but not The Hip Girl's Handbook. These authors were able to include helpful information in a clever way so that this book is witty and fun to read. It also has an easy layout so I can reference what it is I am looking for pretty quickly.

I just wish I had this book years ago when I was first on my own away at college. I would highly recommend this book for any woman (or even young woman) who is, or wants to be, independent!

The best book I've ever purchased three copies of.
To a girl on her own for the first time, every small catastrophe is a threat to her burgeoning independence, even to her sense of identity and self. Corny as the title (and cover, fonts, and optimistic writing) may be, "The Hip Girl's Handbook for Home, Car, & Money Stuff" is a godsend and lifesaver. As a perpetually frazzled young woman who has been on her own for a couple years now, I can sincerely tell you that every new, horrifying experience in maintenance has been its own trauma worth calling the police department or landlord over (like the time I smelled gas, frantically called the fire department, and they laughed as they relit the pilot on my stove, for instance). But Jen Musselman and Patty DeGregori take the horror out of the inevitable, giving young women the power and knowledge to take on each catastrophe with a clear head.

The book is arranged just as the title implies: the "home" section talks about picking out a home, navigating the breaker box, and unclogging pipes-things no girl should have to turn to a repairman or neighbor for. The "car" section lends comprehensive advice as to the maintenance and repair of every gal's automobile, as well as how to recover control of the car in times of enormous distress (and the section delegated to Road Tripping alone nearly one-ups Cameron Tuttle's "Bad Girl's Guide to the Open Road"). And lastly, the "money" section pares down managing a checking account, as well as combating identity theft, into equally understandable, dare I say manageable, scenarios.

Not two days after I'd purchased my own copy of the book, I bought one for my best friend; do the same for the gals in your life. This is the one book every girl should keep front-and-center. The information jam-packed into this smiley little reference book is outright empowering: knowing how to take on every circumstance, no matter how wee or how devastatingly harrowing, gives a young woman both the confidence to take matters into her own hands, and consequently the blessing of new independence.

Why stumble along and question yourself, not knowing how to price, run a business, organize your life or plan your dreams when you have Lynette Harris so kindly opening up herself and all she has learned and experienced in her book, "Making Money With Your Creative Paint Finishes". I turn to her book regularly when pricing out a job or just doing my books. An encouraging, helpful read.
I want to thank Lynette Harris for writing Making Money with your Creative Paint Finishes. I am starting my own Creative Home Paint business and I now, after Lynette's great advise, feel confident that I can be successfull. Thanks Lynette for the fabulous, step by step, easy to read, fun book!

Everything You Know About Money Is Wrong
Published in Paperback by Regan Books (15 February, 2001)
Author: Karen Ramsey
Amazon base price: $11.95
Used price: $4.45
Karen Ramsey, a certified financial planner for more than 14 years, believes that Americans are financially stymied by the things they think they know about money. She takes a somewhat unconventional approach in her Seattle-based practice by first working to separate clients from these various misconceptions before setting them on the proper paths to fiscal happiness. Accordingly, in Everything You Know About Money Is Wrong, Ramsey begins by debunking 21 deep-rooted notions that she says are the cause of our poor national spending and saving habits--including notions such as "More money will make me happier," "I have to pay for my kids' college education," "I should buy a home because it's a great investment," and "I have to fully fund my retirement plan every year." She then follows up with commonsense suggestions for creating a realistic financial plan. "This isn't a book about how to become a millionaire or how to act like one when you're not," she writes. "It's about transforming your relationship with money so it can become a friendlier presence in your life." --Howard Rothman

If only I would have read this book sooner ...
In this era of financial planning "sound bytes" that arethrust upon us and the ever increasing skewed morals of what money"should" mean - it is quite refreshing to see someone step up to the plate and "Stop the Insanity". The extra baggage we all carry from the media's guilt driven "supermodel" of what we as a society should buy into is ridiculous at best. The myths that Ms. Ramsey outlines in her book ring true to me as I try to justify my life with or without money. It is a startling wakeup call that points out just what is WRONG with our entrenched philosophy of what money is for. I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Ramsey's client stories and felt connected with their journey. An essential "Life" book that should be proudly displayed on your bookshelf as a reminder of why money shouldn't buy everything. Kudo's on Ms. Ramsey's website which cuts to the chase of planning your life with money.

Heart, humor, no-nonsense. Surprisingly intimate.
This book brings a lot of heart, humor and no-nonsense good sense to the matter of putting money in its proper place in one's life. Karen Ramsey communicates her messages both directly and through many stories of experiences with her clients.

Beginning with the admission that most of us were never explicitly taught much about the basics of money, and maintaining that the value of our lives comes from within each of us, Ramsey takes us on several adventures at a very personal level.

Though I expected some kind of "how-to" advice, I was surprised at how moving and inspiring were the real-life stories of people accomplishing what they'd thought was not possible. As I read, I couldn't help but notice how so many of the concerns we have are so similar, yet so often held privately. I found myself more powerfully related to money and it's role in my life.

Reading this book can make a distinct difference in your financial well-being.

She's So Right
After reading through a few of the myths at the bookstore, I took the book home and read it in one sitting. Since then, I refer to it often, mostly in discussions with friends and family. Recently, a friend at work was contemplating the purchase of a house -- with dread. When I asked him why he didn't want to buy a house and yet was launching a search anyway, he said it was because he saw several other people at work his age buying homes, and thought it was "time." Well, I copied one of the chapters from this book and left it for him on his chair. He came to my office later offering profuse thanks. He wasn't going to buy a house, and he had this book to thank for it. He literally bounces around the office now, with the pressure of homeownership off, and a new sense of financial priorities in place. And that's the effect of just one myth, on just one person. Do you have to fund your retirement fully every year? Should you pay off your house early? Is a tax deduction a good reason to buy a home? Is a home a good investment? Is it an investment at all? Should you stay in an apartment for the rest of your life? The answers are in this book. They're accessible, relevant and enlightening. They may just change your views about your personal finances. Especially if they're all wrong.

Kirbyjohn Caldwell is an inspiration!
I caught Kirbyjohn Caldwell's presentation at the Texas Book Festival in 1999. He read from his book the Gospel of Good Success, and I was blown away by his energy, his positive attitude and the message found in his book. He truly is a point of light, a spiritual leader and great community activist. I highly recommend his work!

a Spiritual Guide for the VISIONARY
This book is a must read! If you are struggling on how to bring some of your dreams to fruition please read this roadmap to WHOLENESS. I am not the avid reader but I was so engrossed and encouraged in his philosophy toward Holistic Salvation. the Gospel of Good Success opened my mind to new directions that I needed to begin for my journey of perservance when completing my goals. I have found new life within these 256 powerfully written words.

SPIRITUALITY AND SUCCESS
I read this book because of the author's skillful and articulate interview on the Bill O'Reilly televised show. I liked his demeanor and his clarity on the power of perception. His book is equally concise. He offers common sense religious avenues for dealing with the issues of today, and transforming your life. His road map covers emotions, finances, career, health, parenting. Among his six strategic steps to success is "stage a comeback". I especially liked that passage. It dissipates the perception of failure. A mistake is an opportunity to make a wiser decision the next time. If you enjoyed, Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson's "From Rage to Responsibility", and Harold Klemp's,"Secret of Love", you will glean a lot from Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell's , "Gospel of Good Success". I did. Start working on your self-esteem and your self-confidence today. Your success is in your hands.

Excellent topical summary for entrepreneurs
As a founder of a two-year old business, I also found many valuable insights in this book. The reader gets the sense that Tom Gillis has gone through so many experiences that have relevance to all growing companies. Since the book is organized by topics, it's very easy to pick out the pieces of information that are most timely.

Practical, wide-ranging business wisdom, well-told
The two great features of Guts and Borrowed Money are, 1) the down-to-earth, practical advice offered by a businessman with a lifetime of experience, and, 2) the simplicity and brevity with which the advice is rendered. Another big plus to the book is its breadth. Mr. Gillis covers the stages of hatching and growing a business as well as such practical topics as handshake deals and retirement planning. He also gives valuable advice on finding mentors and organizations to help you continue to grow in your business skills. As Gillis says in the forward, if you're a born entrepreneur like Bill Gates, you don't need this book. But, if you're a mere mortal who runs or would like to run your own business, this book is for you. It is like having a wise, street-smart advisor sitting beside you. A terrific book. I'd rate it a strong 9.

THE BOOK'S GREAT
It offers reinforcement for those things that I already knew I should be doing and insight into ideas that I had not thought of. One of the best things about the book is that it explains that even though you have problems as you go, its normal, but YOU NEED TO recognize them and FIX'em. I intend on keeping it at my desk with my other favorite: THINK AND GROW RICH.

Invest in Your-SELF: Six Secrets to a Rich Life

Written by three veteran consumer experts who escaped the rat race, Invest in Yourself is a comprehensive guide for saving money and becoming a better person in the process. The book offers six secrets to the rich life--the first is to determine what you want in a career, write Marc Eisenson, Gerri Detweiler, and Nancy Castleman. "By carefully investing your time, energy, and maybe a little money, you can find out where you really want to go--and then do what you need to get there," they write. "It's one of your best investment opportunities, way better than anything you can get in the stock market." The other five keys: invest in intangibles like family and friends; pay off debts and get into a 401(k); keep learning new skills; manage your own money and get an "ace in the hole"--a tiny business of your own. Invest in Yourself offers a myriad of tips for squeezing the most out of a dollar. It tells you how to negotiate to get the best price on just about anything, including motel rooms and used cars, and gives the lowdown on turning your kids into savers and investors, controlling college bills, cutting home buying costs, and planning for retirement. The book is also a good clearinghouse for Web sites, helpful phone numbers, and information about newsletters like Loose Change and The Cheapskate Monthly.

The authors know first hand how to live a simple life and reduce expenses. Eisenson and Castleman left behind the big city and started a pro-consumer newsletter in a rented dream home in the country. They very rarely go to stores, preferring yard sales and thrift shops; they grow much of their own food; and practically everything they buy is used. If it breaks, they fix it. Cowriter Gerri Detweiler chucked her executive post with a large credit-education organization and made it as a writer and consultant. If you're thinking of making a similar move, this book might be a good investment. It's also for anyone looking for some ways to stay on a tight budget or for people just joining the working world. --Dan Ring

small technics make big differences
It only took me 30 seconds to buy the book after I scan the titles of the chapters in a fantasitic bookstore in middle Taiwan...all matter to me even if I am a Taiwanese who's so different from those who are supposed to read it.The subject is so universal that, after wandering among the shelves for hours with limited budgets, I decided to take it. The book provides us with so many tips and give us so many substantial thoughts and agendas that a man has to take to make himself rich, materially and spiritually. I am so amazed that, even books about the same subjects in the books are countless, this is a real DIFFERENT book which is written on basis of the authurs' financial expertise and their ideas of helping people, withour meaningless preach and crabbs. This book is a real life bible. I am so glad that I have it.

Excellent "gain control of your money and work life" book
It's hard to gain control of your life these days--if things are going well at the office, then you've got some personal crisis to deal with. That's what so appealing about INVEST IN YOURSELF. It offers a fresh approach to figuring out what's important and then includes financial strategies that will help you keep your life in balance. I urge everyone who wants a handle on their finances to read it!

A very under-rated book
I am a big fan of wealth books. Used to have a huge collection and then gave them all away. Then financial misfortune came my way and a good friend with good intentions and tough love got me straight again.

This is one of the few books that I kept. One chapter in particular talked about going in business for yourself. I had bookmarked that and perhaps it was ironic because shortly thereafter, my company closed down.

6 secrets to a rich life will lead you to a rich life. My life is back on track now. This book has helped. Some others are The Automatic Millionaire, Rich Dad Poor Dad, The Richest Man in Bablyon and More Wealth Without Risk.

Good luck

This is a fabulous, thought-provoking book!
This book takes a historical and cultural look at breastfeeding and formula-feeding. Fact-based and well-researched, this book is full of thought-provoking information and information that is not usually made public knowledge due to politics and profit interests.

Sections cover: * Breastfeeding customs around the world * Wet nursing, surrogate feeding and healing qualities of breastmilk * Cow's milk is for cows * Artificial feeding * The global search for formula sales * Women and work

Of particular interest is the United States' historical/cultural lack of support of global breastfeeding policies and the strength given to formula companies to dictate the health of America's babies.

provocative book
This book is very inspiring as well as being very well researched. It is the perfect follow-up to Gabrielle Palmer's Politics of Breastfeeding. It documents the continued violations of the World Health Organization's Code for the Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes by formula companies while describing the history of infant feeding practises around the world. A very provocative read

You'll never think about formula the same way again
Provocative, infuriating, incredible...a compelling mix of economics, international relations, political maneuvering, and class issues, along with histories of American business, culture and family, public health, obstetrics, and child-rearing trends. Absorbing, memorable, and well-documented. Must read for women, parents, health workers, youth workers, students of international business, and anyone who crafts health policy.

advanced economics for the pro & the simpleton like me
Dr. Rahn explains advanced concepts of economics in a format that the beginner and simpleton, like me, can understand and use. It is an easy four hour read, is a primer in economics and is must reading for anyone who thinks the way of spending money will continue just like it is at this time. The big question is whether government will grow up in time not to get in the way of the monetary changes and whether you and I will be able to spend our money as we wish without Big Brother's nosing in. What Dr. Rahn fails to point out is that the concepts expressed in his book are basic to our constitution and to our freedom. If we do not take heed, we stand to lose both. It is must reading for every citizen.

Who will win - Government, Technology or the People?
This is a must read book for all those people trying to understand how the internet and the digital revolution will change their lives. It will bring fear to politicians and civil servants who love big Government. It describes how the internet will provide the ordinary citizen with the ability to avoid and evade excessive taxation whilst at the same time being better informed to manage his or her life without Government interference. If you are a knowledge worker, and in Rahn's digital world of tomorrow, we will virtually all be knowledge workers then you have everything to gain from the information in this book. Its comparison of two Governments, one that is minimalist and understanding of the digital age as opposed to one that is maximist and lacking in basic comprehension of the digital revolution, is timely in terms of describing the digital battleground of the next millenium. This book is a must read, it provides a real vision of where the digital future is taking us.

This is the route to FREEDOM
OK, so you have your guns, you've studied the law and you've got your gold and 10 years of food stashed.

Guess what?

It's not necessary. Not now. Not anymore.

No violence, no protests, no writing your congressman.

This is a revolution that is happening one person at a time, anonymously, securely, privately and instantaneously. Each individual voluntarily removes his energy from the system that is enslaving him.

The government will simply lose revenue until it can only function within its justified duties, which is the protection of the property and lives of its citizens.

This book shows the convergence of multiple truly revolutionary technologies that will give us back our freedom and force government to adjust to this new world. This is the way we will return to true freedom.

Edelman's best book yet. Outstanding!
The Truth About Money 3rd edition is more than just a updated version of the very best financial book ever written. It's almost like a totally new book.

Some many other authors out there just revise a few things and more or less put a new cover on an old book. Not Ric. This book is completely redone.

The Truth About Money is an easy read. It is informational, entertaining and enlightening. And it stands alone as a single source of financial information.

Want to know how to buy your first home, your next home and save on taxes when you sell. It's in here.

Want to get the facts on estate planning and long term care; learn how to protect yourself and your family? It's in here.

Want to learn the ABC's of investing; from annuities to zero coupon bonds, mutual funds to writing covered calls, go from owing money to owning money. Get out of debt and stay out of debt? It's in here.

And how about retirement. Do you want to learn the right steps that you need to take to reach the American Dream? Then read Ric Edelman's new book.

I considered myself pretty savvy on investing untill I took the 130 question money quizzes that Ric provides. I was surprised to find out how much I didn't know.

The Truth About Money is divided into 18 sections, 86 chapters and 625 pages. With all of that, you would think that this book would be a difficult read. Wrong. It is a delightful read. Ric is not only the most knowledgeable of financial authors, he is also one of the best writers in that he can take the most difficult subjects and make it fun and easy. No wonder his books have sold so well!

Ric is uniquely qualified to write on the subject of personal finance. Aside from earning the designations of CFS, RFC, CMFC, and QFP he was named by Research magazine as the #1 financial advisor in the nation for his focus on the individual client in 2003.

His firm Edelman Financial Services, Inc. has won more than 50 professional, business, community service and philanthropic awards and has been ranked twice by Bloomberg Wealth Manager as one of the largest independent financial planning and investment firms in the nation. The firm has created and implemented financial plans for more than 6,500 clients, and today Ric and his team manage $2 Billion for investors across the country.

If you want to buy just one book on personal finance, The Truth About Money should be that book. It is excellent. Everything you need to know about personal finance is in here.

5 stars is not enough. Amazon, you need to go back to 10 stars for this outstanding work by Edleman.

This book has no real competition
While there sure are a lot of books on personal finance, there are none as comphrehensive as Ric Edelman's great work The Truth About Money 3rd edition. And there are not that are as current. Most of the books that are on the bookstands have been around for awhile and say pretty much the same thing.

Ric is different. He is controversial. But his advice really works. Ric is not some magazine writer without a financial background who has never helped anybody and decides to write a book. As another reviewer has indicated, Ric is very qualified to speak on personal finance.

Other books that are useful include The Automatic Millionaire and although they have been around for awhile, The Millionaire Next Door and More Wealth Without Risk still offer powerful advice that you won't find anywhere else.

The Truth About Money is an outstanding book that must be read by anyone whow ants to learn the truth about money. The facts, not just opinions. Advice that is tried and true, not tired and through as with some financial authors.

And as already mentioned, this book has been updated and is current. Not just a new cover on an old book.

Interesting, Motivating, and Understandable
Big book that I finished in less than a week. Great advice, gives you pointers on what to be wary of, and what has time proven strategy.

Easy, actually more like FUN to read. And motiviating. This is the best point. If you aren't motivated to act, it wont help you anyhow. The examples and descriptions make the goal of commanding personal finances and "owning your money" realistic. It does this by making you understand the processes.

Thats all I can say on this book, read the other reviews, they cover the rest.

One more thing though:

Why would you take advice from a canadian about a book written about the American financial institution?
