Excellent for those who've never read an economics textbook
I read this book right after ploughing through Mankiw's economics textbooks, and must say that "Economic Literacy" is an excellent book for illiterates on the subject of economics. There is no abstract and counter-intuitive math, and De Rooy covers most of the subjects found in the econ textbook that I read. One of the best aspects of this book is that the author will clarify econ concepts by giving simple, concrete examples of how said concepts work. Another usefull aspect of this book is that subtitles are in question form (Is inflation always linked to economic growth? Do wage rates influence employment? How does the Fed keep the banking system healthy?), allowing one to use the book as a quick reference if necessary. Overall, I think this is an excellent book as a standalone if one wants to learn about economics in general, knowledgeable terms. For the econ student, it may be helpful as an aid when the going gets rough (though, generally, study groups and visiting hours are much more effective...depending)

Oustanding Intro to Economics
This book is a great intro to the fundamentals of economics. TDr Rooy has lucidly in a simple question answer format described a myriad of topics that make sense to the causal reader.

Chapters 5,6,7 were so much fun that I could hardly put the book down. Mind u that I never really did any course work in Economics, I am a computer science graduate.

I really loved the book. I thoroughly recommend it to an economics novice.

Excellent book!
If you know nothing about economics, this is the best book to start with. It's easy to read and contains many real life examples. Having studied Economics in university, I still find this book fascinating due to its simplicity. A must have!

Fiat Money Inflation in France
Published in Hardcover by Indypublish.Com (October, 2003)
Author: Andrew Dickson White
Amazon base price: $40.99
Average review score:

Want to be ahead of our future?
The book is about the financial trouble that fiat (e.g.,paper) money created in France during the revolutionary years. It also states clearly that the people didn't learn enough from a lesson they had 70 years early.

If you read this historical account you will very often wonder: 'Hey sounds familiar to me...'. Too bad - or?

Fascinating explanation of the runaway inflation in France
Fiat Money Inflation in France is as much about irrational human behavior as it is about financial crises and runaway inflation. White describes a dissillusioned public who, under the influence of increasingly self-serving public officials and orators, accepted more and more assignant printings even though the perils of such printings had been documented throughout history and were then blatantly obvious right before there eyes.

White presented this analysis of the runaway inflation in France to dissuade the US Government of printing its own paper money. He was successful.

A book worth reading.

A story about debt that seems to chronicle events today
A clear presentation of a governments desparate move using cheap inflated paper money to pay off old debts and its effects on france around 1790. This is not a dynamic novel, but mind bombs go off as the author hits the chain of events that occurred when money is inflated, and is backed only by only a promise to pay the debt it represents. The French find themselves mired in a cycle of ever increasing difficulty to pay that debt off. Although it is not a novel and at times a bit dry, you will definitely be talking to your friends and family about what this author has to say and comparing it to what you see happening now.

Superbly written account of the move to EMU
Having read several books on the move to EMU, this is definitely one of the most thoughtful and incisive (and by far the best written!!). Clearly the French perspective on the EMS and EMU is absolutely crucial to understanding why European monetary integration happened at all. Well done! This book enters into impressive detail about the French perspective but places the development of French policy clearly in the context of wider European developments so that the non-specialist can follow the text and learn about monetary integration more generally.

A well-balanced, thoughtful study
This is a well-balanced, thoughtful study of French policy on European monetary integration. For those looking to understand EMU go no further!

A superb account of the move to EMU
This is a detailed yet highly readable account of the reasons why the French sought European monetary integration. I recommend it all those interested in why the French embraced EMU.

Got Money?: Enjoy It, Manage It--Even Save Some of It--Financial Advice for Your Twenties and Thirties
Published in Paperback by AMACOM (October, 1999)
Author: Jeff Wuorio

Used price: $3.00

Informed sources report that today's young people are more interested in money management than their predecessors--but on the whole remain frighteningly ignorant of the specifics involved. Got Money? Enjoy It! Manage It! by personal-finance writer Jeff Wuorio is a sassy but smart compendium of relevant advice for those in their 20s and 30s who would like to buck that latter trend. After addressing everyday fundamentals, including budget setting and bank shopping, it concentrates on more advanced aspects of individual economics, such as debt, investing, retirement planning, home buying, securing financial assistance, utilizing electronic resources, and preparing for taxes. It also contains tips on such frequently overlooked cash-saving practices as reworking onerous student loans, finding and acquiring adequate renter's insurance, and buying household staples in bulk. "Making the most of your money is not as complicated as particle physics," Wuorio writes. "Granted, some things are more complicated than others, but the lion's share of basic financial ideas and principles are within the intellectual reach of anyone." His book synthesizes a wealth of solid information into one handy resource, and does so in a way that newcomers to the world of finance and investing can easily understand and readily utilize. --Howard Rothman

Outstanding and entertaining source of information
Got a degree? Got a family? Got a life? Then by all means, you need got money?

This entertaining, informative book is a lifelong resource of financial information not only for those in their twenties and thirties, but for those of us for whom thirty is but a distant memory. Written in a friendly, open style, reading got money? must be what sitting down and talking to Jeff Wuorio is like. From interest rates to bonds, stocks, budgets and home ownership, this book is chock full of information and handy websites for further research that is sure to become a critical reference for years to come. Of special interest are the tips on budgeting and saving for the future. Personal anecdotes further enliven the book, and one comes away feeling not only well informed, but awed by the wealth of knowledge that Mr. Wuorio possesses. It is clear from reading got money? that getting money and being successful in saving, managing and using it is not just for the well-heeled or the older generation. This book is number one on my list of holiday gifts for all the young people in my life.

VERY PRACTICAL, SMART AND HIP ADVICE
Wuorio offers advice on most every aspect of a person's financial profile; credit cards, cars, homes, investments --- but does so in a straight forward and humorous manner. It was actually FUN and informative to read this book and I know that I'm more armed to make smart decisions on a myriad of money choices

Like advice from a trusted (and witty) friend
Reading "Got Money?" is like sitting down with a friend and chatting about money--provided that friend is funny, lively and knows nearly everything about budgeting, insurance and 401k's. Whether giving advice on getting out of debt or explaining the intracacies of investment, Wuorio shows he has done his homework, and is anxious to share that information with 20- and 30-somethings. And like a trusted friend, Wuorio doesn't claim to be the final word on any topic, but ably directs readers to useful Websites for additional information. In short, this book is what every book on financial advice should be, but most aren't: practical, direct and -- dare I say -- enjoyable reading.

Want to turn your life around for God? Read this book!
Are you struggling in your faith? Are you having trouble listening to God's voice? Did you know that there are several ways for God to communicate with you? Did you know that most of the time we hear two voices (Satan and God)? Want to know how to tell them apart and how to ultimately listen to God? Then you should check out Charles Stanley's book Listening to God. Two years ago I received this book as a gift and I just put it on the shelf. When I finally read the book I realized that if I would have read it the first time I would not have been faced with the issues that I am struggling with today.

In this book Charles Stanley not only teaches the reader how to listen to God, but he also tells the reader how to take that new knowledge and apply it in real life situations. He uses examples and stories from his own life, which helps the reader relate to the new concepts and issues. Each point is backed with scripture and is followed by questions that will make the reader take a closer look at his or her walk with God.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is stumbling in their walk with God or anyone who is trying to strengthen their relationship with the Lord. This book, although it is apart of a Bible Study series, does not necessarily have to be read in the correct order. Just pick it up, read it and don't give up because the Lord will use it to show you the way!

LOVED THIS BOOK!
I really enjoyed reading this book and thought it was excellent. Not only did it focus on the "why do I feel this way" aspects of emotions, but it also offered great suggestions on how to deal with our emotions. The book focuses on emotions in general, but then gradually confronts specific emotions such as anger, fear, anxiety in later chapters. It gives great examples on what to do when you feel a certain emotion and how to deal with it. What I liked even more is that the text was backed up with great biblical verses and it also made you think. I've already started putting the book to use and I can already see a change in the way I think and react to my emotions! The only problem with this book is I wish it were longer! :) Highly recommended!

"God Has A Purpose..."
'God Has A Purpose For Everything That Happens To You', is the Introduction to this book that, along with 'Another', may in fact change your life forever. Charles Stanley has been blessed with a powerful Gift from God to teach His Holy Word...that is equaled by "very" few. His 'In Touch' Ministry is indeed IN TOUCH with the Holy Spirit God Himself (Now find out more...).

Important Book
Someday humanity will look back on this book and wonder why its methods were not put into practice generations sooner. Better late than never. Free yourself. Become part of the solution.

Step By Step Guidebook For Monetary Change
No need to reinvent the wheel. This book explains how money works for those who already have too much and against those who are really creating the wealth. Then it shows examples of systems tried and shown to be effective in keeping the productivity in the hands of the creators and at the same time allowing the already-rich to keep their security. No guesswork necesary. A complete guide to making changes that are long overdue in this nation and hopefully on this planet. Imagine working your fair share of time and prospering while the earth has a chance to recover from merciless plunder. Don't dream it: BE it!

Boston Tea Party for Wage Slaves
If people only understood the concepts in this easy to read book, freedom would return to this land. People would be able to keep the profits from their labor. Americans who have been taught to endure hardship simply to earn a living would find that their life-energy has been stolen and would be empowered to take it back. Land would be redistributed and it would be profitable to live lightly on the earth once again. The system described in this book is tried and proven. Many communities are using its example to restore prosperity to their citizens.
Small but powerful book. Should be required reading for all high-school students. At least the next generation would taste freedom and prosperity.

The Family CFO : The Couple's Business Plan for Love and Money

A helpful tool for all.
This well-written book provides a clear and logical framework for couples to discuss finances and money management without so much of the emotion that often accompanies this subject. Probably every couple will find an example in the book to whom they can relate. And Allvine and Larson give us the tools (the spreadsheets) needed to put their advice into action. Those who want to explore a given topic, such as retirement planning or investing, will want to turn to additional sources, but everything you need to build a foundation of good financial planning and management is here. Perhaps the best feature of the book is the way it's written; the authors present their information in way that's easy for the financial lay person to understand without talking down to their readers. This would be a great gift for any couple just starting out, yet it's equally helpful for couples, such as my husband and me, who have been married several years and haven't really nailed money management. By the way, much of the information in the book would be helpful to anyone managing personal finances, single as well as married. Whether you want to get started on the right foot or undo poor money management habits, this book is a helpful guide.

The Family CFO
What a great vehicle for couples about to venture into a partnership! This guide should be used for pre-marital counseling to avoid the huge financial pitfalls which can disrupt a relationship. Even after 40 years of "partnership", some hints can be applied to a long standing relationship. Cleverly written too!!

Very helpful
I'm always a bit skeptical about "how-to" books, especially those about relationships and money. This one, however, is really helping us out. It has taken some of the stress out of talking about money. Instead of having these "discussions"(a.k.a arguments) only after I decide to buy a new guitar, we have them during our board meetings...a much more relaxed environment.
I just can't believe nobody thought of this concept before.

Fantastic and unique
Having spent a lot of time looking for information on imaginative & fun (and sometimes luxury) travel with kids, I can tell you that this is a really unique book. It is comprehensive, carefully researched and well written with loads of practical tips. Some 'travel with kids' books might as well just be bland advertising copy, this one really provides good editorial content, with positive and critical comments. It is a pleasure to read and we will use it for a long time. Fodor's should publish more of these for other parts of the US/world.

An Investment for the Traveling Family!
I loved this book and would recommend it to any family wanting to travel in the northeastern United States. The writers offer tips and reviews on places of interest, resorts, and campgrounds in a wide range of prices. In fact, we have visited some of those places and found a brand new vacation prospect in Lake George which we will be trying out this summer! Definitely one of the most informative travel books on the market today -- entertaining even if you do not go to these places.

I can't tell you how long I've looked for a book like this!
I've been searching for a book like this for several years and haven't found one that fit the bill until now! I had a great time reading it - so well written - and got more useful information than I'll ever be able to use in one lifetime! Thanks so much to the writers and publishers!

A Powerful Tool to Bring More Money into Your Life!
I really enjoyed reading this book, because it taught me how to attract money through spiritual means. The author includes helpful examples and practical exercises which will teach you how to reprogram your subconscious mind to attract more prosperity into your life. This book is especially helpful if you seem baffled by the lack of money in your life, for the answer often lies in your subconscious beliefs. Robert shows you in very simply, easy-to-understand manner how to change these beleifs and change your relationship with money. Highly recommended!

My friend got even better results than me!
I have several of Mr. Griswold's tapes and recommend them to my friends. This one is very good and I think it has helped me to have a more prosperous attitude. I'm just jealous of my friend. He borrowed my copy and only listened to it once or twice. Incredibly the money has been rolling in for him ever since.
