Money: Ye shall have honest weights and measures

Used price: $155.00

Keep this book in publication- whatever it takes
Having spent the past two years learning everything I could about the workings of the Federal Reserve and fiat currencies I was pleased to be introduced to Ewarts excellent book on money. It is a first class book in all respects, content, format, quality of paper, photos and binding. I have three sons in their 20's and I am giving them each a copy, that is how important the information in Money is! There is a growing awareness of the abuse of our money system, our Constitution and our government. Books that would complement what you learn in Money include, Cracking the Code, Creature from Jeckyl Island, The Grunch of giants, and The Peoples History of the United States. Also do some research on filing a UCC-1 in a step to owning your freedom.

A Perfect Graduation Gift
This would be a perfect graduation gift for a high school student. Give him or her a dose of vital truth before subjecting them to economic B.S. on the university level. If only I could have read this book 20 years ago. James Ewart does a magnificent job exposing how the banking system operates and how ongoing unconstitutional expansion of the money supply waters down the value of our wallet and checkbook money. When you are the victim of a continuing con-game, the sting is not comprehended, the propaganda has been effective and the billionaires make out like bandits. Now you have the key to the magic trick in "Money" and all economics becomes very simple, only the slight of hand and propaganda was the source of confusion. So, if you are of a state of mind which could not contemplate the possibility of criminals running the United States, then this book isn't for you, stick with looser job and Sunday football and boring spouse, and ride ol' nellie down; on the otherhand, if you have been curious, or sensed something was wrong, but couldn't put your finger on it, JUST WHY SHOULD ALAN GREENSPAN BE ALLOWED TO MANIPULATE YOUR MONEY ANYWAY? DOES LIBERTY AND FREE ENTERPRIZE MEAN ANYTHING? , then this book is for you, It rates a 5 star, and every patriotic American should have a copy nearby.

The Classic work on money
Jim Ewart has produced a classic work entitled Money. More than simply a fine 'coffee table' exposition on our understanding of the nine most important monetary terms (money, currency, dollar, pay, note, bill, tender, usury, and inflation), it is THE premiere showcase work on the pictorial history of money. This expensively designed and printed book is the first to show all of the original American forms of coinage and paper currency in full color plates. They are gorgeous. Ewart walks you through all the fascinating fine print on each bill showing how government has slowly changed the fiduciary relationship between citizen and currency -- to the citizen's detriment. While I think Ewart sometimes makes too much out of the nuances of etymology (tracking the root meaning of words), when you get through his conversational explanations on money, banking and credit, you'll be an expert on the terminology of money and much better equipped to see through the deceptive fine print still in use in many of today's bank loan documents. Again, this is a showcase-quality hardback book printed on glossy paper -- a treasure house of color reproductions. It's priced none too high for the value, in my opinion.

Modern-day Medici
In his day, J.P. Morgan was the best-known head of an American financial house. But Otto Kahn was a close second. Today, Morgan enjoys immortality in the popular imagination, while Kahn is all but forgotten. Thankfully Theresa Collins ... has produced a biography of Kahn that illuminates his importance as a man who successfully combined modern business sensibilities with art patronage. (Review by Ian Drake, Philanthropy Magazine, May/June 2003)

From Business History Review
"a genuinely transnational biography and a model for those who wish to engage in that rapidly growing field of historical scholarship."(Michael Kammen, Cornell University)

From Aufbau
"A considered and nuanced account of [the] early twentieth century American Medici. . . . Collins' accomplished biographical study profiles from the cinematic deftness with which she crosscuts facets of Kahn's life, an altogether appropriate technique in limning an existence so enamored of and beholden to modernity. Her use of the language of theater and film in interpretive contexts seamlessly brings his many worlds into a unified vision."--Aufbau

I laughed. I cried. It was better than "Cats"...
Having read the original "Pat the Bunny" book to my 2-year-old countless times, and with an ever-shrinking pool of cash and ever-increasing debt, I found this book hilarious yet painfully true. I also laughed out loud in the bookstore (the guy standing next to me must have thought that I was certifiably insane), but did not actually buy the book due to aforementioned shrinking cash pool...so it will probably go on my Wish List. Recommended for a good laugh in these hard economic times (and just WHERE are those jobs, George W.?).

A Hilarious and Scary Parody of Pat the Bunny
I cracked up in the bookstore when I first picked this one up. Being familiar with the interactive classic Pat the Bunny, I was drawn right into this one.

Simply put, it uses Pat the Bunny-style illustrations and rhymes to show the differences between two generations. One is monied and affluent while the new generation has much bleaker prospects (remember to give the money back after you pat it).

Everyone I have shown this too has laughed out loud. You probably will too. Check it out.

The perfect gift for the downwardly mobile
If you or anyone you know (and who doesn't these days) has a growing debt load and a shrinking budget, then this is the perfect gift. Short and sweet, friends (even those without jobs) have laughed throughout. It's perfect for the times......

The Power In Your Money Personality
Since I live Minnesota, I had the pleasure of hearing Susan speak at a conference. As I sat in the chair, I was taken aback at how she seemed to know my spending habits without knowing me. I bought the book and now all the corners are turned and words are underlined. I have an urge to splurge...period. The book looks at how we look at money and use it, or abuse it, in our every days lives. I recommend this for anyone who would like to take an honest look at where their paycheck goes each month. I'm back on Amazon today to order a copy for a friend of mine who is getting married. Solid information presented in a light-hearted way. No matter what your personality, you'll find yourself in the pages of this book. It's awesome.

She Does Know What's She's Talking About
For many, her humor will take the edge off of our "money hassles in relationships".Yet this book is not fluff. Susan has done her homework around our money behaviors. She understands the financial issues and she has tied them to our personalities. Any couple having a tough time dealing with each other when it comes to money should read this book.

My Money Personality
I just have to rave about Susan's book, The Power in Your Money Personality. I am a professional financial planner with a CPA and a law background. Not once in may career have I come across such a powerful message. Susan's book opened my eyes to many of the misconceptions that my clients and I myself hold with respect to money and personal finances. Her words and humor have disolved years of anxiety that I have been carrying around. Thank you, Susan!

Sam and the Lucky Money
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Karen Chinn, Aida E. Marcuse, and Wright Cornelius Van
Amazon base price: $15.25
It's Chinese New Year in Chinatown, and young Sam has four dollars of New Year money burning a hole in his pocket. As he and his mother are milling through the crowded streets--alive with firecrackers, lion dances, and shoppers--Sam accidentally steps on the foot of a homeless man who is buried in a pile of red paper. Flustered, Sam hurries back to his mother, and is soon distracted by the char siu bao and other sweets he might buy with his gift money. When he sees fish-tail cookies that remind him of toes, he remembers the old man again, and Sam starts to think of his "lucky money" in a new light. Karen Chinn's winning story is perfectly complemented by the vibrant watercolors of Cornelius Van Wright and Ying-Hwa Hu, creators of the award-winning Zora Hurston and the Chinaberry Tree and A House by the River. Voted "Pick of the Lists" by American Bookseller, Sam and the Lucky Money succeeds at telling a simple story, while allowing young readers to explore the sights and sounds of an American urban Chinatown during the Chinese New Year. (Ages 4 to 8)

Chinese customs with a wonderful message for all
Everyone loves this book; mothers, teachers and of course, children. Many books about Chinese New Year are non-fiction books that describe the customs of the holiday. What makes this different is that this is a piece of fiction that gives you all the flavors of what it's like in an urban Chinatown during Chinese New Years while at the same time sending a wonderful message of giving. My 3 and 5 year old love this book. My 5 year old's kindergarten teacher loved the book for the same reasons plus it fostered discusssions about the story and the holiday. A class of 18 children sat quietly; listening attentively. The children found the illustrations fascinating. The teacher even loaned our book to another kindergarten teacher. I'm online because I'm getting them their own copy.

A must to read book for young children!
Great for pre-schoolers to learn about giving and introduce them to Chinese New Year Celebration. Read the book to 3 year olds at a pre-school. Everyone was very attentive. Kids got the message, learnd about giving and appreciation, as well as were introduced to Asian culture. Recommend to ages 3-7.

Great book to read for Chinese New Year school discussion
Read for a pre-k school Chinese New Year celebration and for a kindergarten celebration and all children were very attentive and interested in the story. Also has a good moral message to about giving.

I Can't Believe the Lily Series is out of Print!
Just as good as the Mandie Books, the Lily Series is exciting and mysterious. I'm disappointed that they are no longer in print, but I can't locate the last 2 books ANYWHERE! Buy the first two while you can- trust me- they're worth it no matter what kind of condition they're in.

Great!!
I loved this book, the only problem is that there hasn't been any sequels!!! I read this book when it was first published (several years ago I can tell you!) and I loved it! I've been looking for these last years for the sequels and I can't find em! (I have the 2nd one) But this is a great read.

LIly - The Secret Money
I to have read the first two Lily Adventures books and believe that they are even better then the Mandie series. I really enjoyed them and am really disappointed that I can't find the next few books in the series, for the first two left you hanging off a very high cliff! Please if you read this Lois Leppard, please finish the end of the mystery, I would really like to know how it ends.

Good, but the authors want to sell you more than the book.
This book is full of valuable financial information, but then, so are many books. What sets this one apart from others is that, in addition to the standard good advice, it approaches money from the point of view of emotion.

The book starts out by having the reader examine how s/he feels when spending money. E.g., does it give one a bit of a thrill, or does it leave one feeling guilty? It then proceeds to a more traditional exposition of the lessons of finance, but the "emotional" approach permeates the book and allows one to see money issues in a new light.

The downside to this book, and the primary reason that I'm giving it four stars and not five, is that the authors use it, at times, as a catalog for their financial and estate-planning products. If you can ignore having overpriced "estate planning kits" marketed to you by those who are otherwise trying to help your finances, then it's worthwhile to read this book... even for those who have read more than their fair share of personal-finance books. It felt a little unseemly (to me anyway) to be reading how important it is not to spend money unnecessarily, and then in the next chapter read about how one needed their estate-planning kit that almost certainly provides, but at a much higher cost, no more information than the Dummies book on the same topic.

All things considered though--taken with a grain of salt--the book is very good.

Powerful Stuff!! Dare You To Implement It And Stick To IT!
This book is great. I will read it over and over for the rest of my life. Its entertaining and yet dense enough to be used as reference material well after you finish it. Amazingly organized. The subject matter progresses just as it should and the real life examples really bring the lessons to life. Empower yourself and think about your future and that of your children. Plan and never be in want. Not a strain to implement. Good for any situation. Go!!! That you folks at Money Mastery!!! I am now aware.

Best Kept Financial Secret In America.
WOW: As a working mom, I like to read finsncial books to help my family. This is clearly the best financial and tax planning book that I have ever read, as the other reviewers have also noted. It is clear, concise, simply written, and chuck full of financial and tax planning strategies. There is an especially good tax section by an IRS attorney that was immensely helpful for my small business and for people who are thinking of starting a small business. For example, I didn't know that I could deduct all my dry cleaning and laundry expenses after a business trip. The discussion on deducting my entertainment and golf was particularly interesting.

I have read many financial books including the Rich Dad/ Poor Dad series and "The Millionaire Next Door" by Stanley, and this book blows them all out of the water.

Trust me: This book is one of the better kept financial secrets. Its too bad these authors don't promote it more because it is fabulous. If there is any one financial book that you should read and give to your children, this one is it!

Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money & Power
Published in Audio Cassette by Simon & Schuster (Audio) (May, 1991)
Authors: Daniel Yergin and Bob Edwards
Amazon base price: $15.95
Used price: $8.00
Average review score:

An excellent primer on petroleum
This book explains how oil affects our lives, our nation, the world's economy and political situations. Yergin's writing style is superb, and although the material is somewhat dry, he really brings events to life. This work is rare for non-fiction - it is easy reading and informative. I have just finished the book a few minutes ago, and I really feel that I have learned a great deal. My favorite section was on World War II. I have read hundreds of books on the subject, but the section in "The Prize" dedicated to the War from a petroleum standpoint is superb

History of Oil and the Drive for Technology
This book is one of the best for enlightening those of the the 1970's forwrd of the preferred interests of their mothers and fathers. Ex- President Bush is heavily documented in his actions with those of the Middle Est in his attempts at acquiring a chunk of the oil industry. It highlights South America's Venezuela and its failing oil fields. It shows the world's efforts at unity for one major purpose. It defines OPEC and ARAMCO as they need to be understood. For anyone not current on world issue, this is the book to read.

Truly a classic text. Fascinating and enlightening.
Yergin's grasp of the broad view of the history of oil and its context in world history is amazing. Scholarly and yet as compelling as the best fiction, this book is a masterful work

A very good book overall on personal finance
A very good down-to-earth book that readers can immediately start putting to good use.

Conversational Economics 301
For those of us who have gotten to know Chris Farrell on "Right On The Money", this book is a long awaited and welcomed companion to his public television show. A great introduction to those not familiar with his warm style. Good reading;great information.

Very Informative
For a young man who does not know much about personal finances, this book has been great. It told me all the things that everyone is supposed to know, but I didn't. I am young and inexpierienced in handling my finances, and this book appealed to me because I do not think it was written to appeal to the know it all Wall Street audience. This book is already helping me get my finances together, and hopefully will see more from Chris Farrell in the future.
