Benny's Pennies

Easy to read--and memorize!
My 2 1/2-year-old loves this book and was soon "reading" it back to me! Its simple rhymes relate a story of generosity and thoughtfulness. We read it every day for weeks, and return to it frequently after 4 months. Paperback version is not sturdy, though--pages fell out after repeated reading.

A Fable For Today
This is one of my favorite books. It is so simple and beautifully told, gently imparting an important message of selflessness. It is a modern fable. Each page is an amusing "chapter" to an adventure with a gratifying surprise ending. I love how the author respects kids' ability to be kind and creative without the prodding of adults. The illustrations, painstakingly, gorgeously rendered in cut paper, are facinating. Like the story, the pictures are a celebration of a conscientious approach to life.

great book about giving
what a wonderful book. I love the illustrations and the rhyming text. My 2 1/2 year old son (also named Benny!) loves to hear this book over and over. He has many parts memorized, too. It is nice to read a book in which the main character, who could easily spend the money on himself, finds something for his mother, brother, sister, cat, and dog, spending one of his five new shiny pennies on each of them. He gets nothing for himself, except many "thank you"s and that great feeling of giving!

Very entertaining
The novel is an interesting story about a man's experiences in the financial industry and his struggles with himself given the ethics of that industry. The author does an excellent job of explaining basic financial concepts so that the reader gets an education in that world, and this makes the book more interesting.

What an incredible read!
This book has it all--terrific locations, love, sex, and greed, with a main character--Nick Larson--that you just have to root for as he struggles with right and wrong. The author hits the nail on the head with the backroom shenanigans of the financial market. He clearly knows the ins and outs of the financial world. The story portrayed could easily be tomorrow's headline.

Its About Time
Its about time an Author like McPhaul came along to really expose the truths to many myths about celebrity and its impact on those who become public icons and figures. No matter what ethnic background or gender, people all deal with Celebrity Status on a different level.

It's no wonder we continue to read the tabloids, and online reviews because we know that for sure the celebs are in too deep yet again.

I loved the book, and it is a topic of conversation for anyone who visits my home. The Celebrity Psyche is truly a phenomenal book that makes me want to know even more about the actions and reactions by many entertainers and business owners. If I were Michael Jackson I'd ask him [McPhaul] to be my personal advisor. I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't already!

Eye-Opener
My hat is off to Dr. McPhaul. I used to work in the business of entertainment as a personal assistant, so everything struck me deeply. I picked up the book because it was pretty, and the picture layout inside was just beautiful. The book was supposed to be for decoration. When I started reading the book I couldn't put it down, and I learned so much about myself in the chapter on personal assistants. This book is small, but it packs so much power! The most shocking part of the book was Dr. McPhaul's part about the American Idol Show, because it looks as if no one ever considered the true feelings of the people who stand before the public to get humiliated for the sake of our amusement. Before reading this book, I never considered the emotions of those who get hurt trying to pursue their dreams in the context of American Idol. Me and my friends just laughed along with the rest of the public when someone's feelings were hurt. Who knew the experience could cause more serious problems? Also, Dr. McPhaul writes about Adjustment Disorder, and looking back on my days as a personal assistant to entertainment figures, now I realize I had it, but did not know what it was. Knowing then could have made my life easier, and better.

Not For The Faint Hearted
This is the perfect book for anybody who has ever wondered why any, any famous rapper, athlete, movie star, politician, fashion model, or any famous person acts the way they do. As an up and coming rapper myself I could read the book and know what to do, and what to not do.

Dr Jeff Owens teaches the seasoned Preacher as well as the young teenager about the importance of Character in our lives and how it pertains to the Bible and of course how to have Godly Character in your life.
This is such a great book that to write about it does not do it justice. Please take the time to purchase it, you will not be disappointed.

This book is awesome!
Marvelous job... just a masterpiece of writing on Christian character. Dr. Owens really did it with this book.

Awesome!
I've been reading this book, and every chapter is hitting me hard, it sure isn't any wishy washy book, it is a book based strongly on Biblical Character. I've also heard some of his preaching sermons... STRONG AND POWERFUL!

grandson's gift
I gave this to my 5 year old grandson last year for Christmas. He has twice saved up $20 in the book and his mother takes him to the Dollar Store to chose some items. He is also learning about the value of different coins and equivalents.

A great way to save!
We started an allowance for our almost 5 year old son and we were having a difficult time teaching him about saving. This book was the perfect tool! Now, instead of wanting to run out and spend the few coins he earns each week, he's excited about saving them up. And at the same time learning some math and money counting skills. I'll be purchasing this for several nieces and nephews as well.

coin count-y is a must for ids
anyone trying to teach youngsters about saving should start with coin county ! wonderfully illistrated and original. fun and secretly educational . simply a must for age 4 to 10.

Life Changing Book
This book has changed my life. I am richer than ever before and the girls have such a sence of humor. Excellent work.

A Primer for Spiritual Abundance
"Conversations..." is one of those books that you don't have to read from cover to cover to "get" it. You can just open it to one of the 18 topics and get a quick jolt of inspiration, laughter, or motivation. Or you can sit down and write out all the exercises and gain deeper understanding of the aspects of your self. There are also affirmations, quotations, and poetry which can be copied and stuck where you can see them and be reminded of the direction you've chosen on your path. I recommend this book to anyone who is seeking clarity on their spiritual path.

A comfort when lost
This book came to me at a time that was trying for me. I needed the spiritual, down-to-earth wisdom of the authors. It is written in very simple language that makes sense. I would reccommend it to anyone that is having a "bad time." And I would reccommend it to others to keep on tap for bad times.

Father Sandro's Money
Father Sandro's Money is an intricate story of the LaRosa family who escape from poverty and an abusive priest in Italy to build a new life in the United States. K weaves the fictional story into true historical events with descriptive details. You can almost smell the molasses in the streets of Boston!

Once you start this book, it is almost impossible to put down until you have finished it. You will find yourself cheering on Maria and her family as they overcome obstacles and become successful in their new homeland. A wonderful read, can't believe it is K's first published work. I eagerly anticipate more books from her in the future.

Father Sandro's Money
Set back in Italy, in 1910, Maria Avita is taking care of her six children. She often thinks about her husband and two oldest sons who left Italy for America. Joseph wrote letters saying there were great opportunities in America, and he will send for them soon. Well, not soon enough, thought Maria Avita. There were many hardships in Italy. With very little to no money, she had to provide for herself and the children.

Louisa, the oldest girl, had to take care of her siblings, while Maria went into town to get food. There was hardly any kindling to make a fire in the cold damp months of spring. Maria had to get to America faster somehow!

A young priest always made his rounds to the houses everyday to make sure families contributed their meager earnings to the church; which he would collect. He also went to the houses for other reasons. To seek out the young girls and make sure they paid their dues to him also.

But he made a mistake when he went after young Louisa. For when Maria Avita saw Father Sandro on top of her daughter and heard her muffled cries, that was the end of him, and the beginnings of new opportunities for the LaRosa family.

That was only on the first few pages! The rest of the story is how she and Joseph survived in America. There, they started their lives anew together. There were many things that happened over the 30 years they lived in America. Their eight children lived and died through many events; The Molasses Flood, The Spanish Influenza and World War I.

K Spirito tells a wonderful, but very emotional story. I found myself crying at certain points because I was there with the LaRosa's, living through their times of triumph, and times of tragedy.

What a great storyteller!

FATHER SANDRO'S MONEY
This is a well-researched story, molding a fictional tale around actual events of an Italian immigrant family's new lease on life in Boston's North End.

It is also well-paced and descriptive, helping to immerse you into the actual scenes of the family's celebration of life, as well as the calamities that befall it, with former ties to its homeland returning to haunt it.

And through it all is Mama LaRosa's guiding hand, praising, scolding, encouraging, soothing ... 'til the very end.

I look forward to viewing this story on the large screen.

Buckets of Money : How to Retire in Comfort and Safety

Easy to understand
This is not really a book about how to amass your retirement savings, but rather what to do with it when you are retired. The system is simple. You have 3 buckets. In bucket number 1 you put your money for the next 5-7 years. Bucket number 2 is for the next 5-7 year period after that. And finally, bucket number 3 is for the money you will not need for 10-14 years. The book then discusses the proper investment choices for each bucket, how to rebalance them when necessary.

The plan makes sense and seems simple. The only part I was not entirely clear on is when to move items from bucket 3 to bucket 2. Maybe I missed it. In any case, the book was a good read and I plan on reading it again when I get closer to retirement.

I'm looking forward to Ray's next book (the radio show is good too).

A Must Read
I first became aware of Mr. Lucia and his "BrainTrust" (Rick Plum, Rob Butterfield, Jr., and John Dean) when his long-running (14 year) San Diego-based radio show went national and became syndicated with Business Talk Radio at the end of 2000; I thank the day I stumbled upon this sage. The show has become increasingly popular and now airs in around 60 markets. Once limited to the greater San Diego area, this show is now educating people all across the country. This book continues the process of finally bringing Ray Lucia to an even broader audience.

Lucia's show and this book avoid the ridiculous "buy, sell, hold" approach that permeates the work of so many other financial gurus. This is not a "get rich quick" or "doom and gloom" book. Lucia does not pretend to know what direction markets or any individual security is going in the short-term. He sticks to what he knows (and what you need to know). This book is about much more than asset allocation and diversification. It is solid advice based on the prestigious 30-year career of Lucia and his highly competent associates.

If you want books that teach you how to learn how to do a solid fundamental analysis of securities, I recommend the classics by Benjamin Graham, by Peter Lynch, by Philip Fisher, by Louis Engel and about Warren Buffett. If you want a book that takes a refreshing approach and truly carves out a niche by focusing on financial planning, Lucia's book is the book for you. In many ways, Lucia's book is a more relevant read than any of the above mentioned authors.

Believers in an efficient market understand the other authors can only take you so far. Lucia takes you several steps further by sharing financial planning strategies that will work for everybody. This is what is lacking in the vast majority of financial literature. Authors spend too much time trying to tell you how to find the next Microsoft. In the process, they neglect powerful basic and advanced personal finance strategies and investment tools. This is what truly reduces risk and adds value to one's portfolio over time. The vast majority of investors will get more from Lucia's book than any other book they read in their lifetime.

I enthusiastically recommend Lucia as must reading for any investor in any stage of his/her life. This is a great book for a grandfather to buy to read and pass on to his daughter, who can then pass it on to her son. People just starting out will greatly benefit from this book in that it will tell them as much about what not to do, as what to do. More sophisticated and astute investors will benefit from Lucia's empirical study based recommendations on how to allocate and balance one's portfolio. I have acquired more practical knowledge from Mr. Lucia than I have through my undergraduate studies, graduate studies, and other studies combined.

It is a rare and refreshing treat to find someone in this field who not only has such a vast body of knowledge that he is willing to share, but is able to communicate it in such an articulate manner. Lucia not only recommends the right things, but he does things the right way. Lucia is altruistic and passionate. In terms of financial planning savvy, Lucia is by far the best of the financial gurus. In terms of the intangibles, in his words you will find a motivator who cares deeply about his family, his work, and sharing his vast body of knowledge with people from all walks of life so as one of his mottos goes, "You will be successful in your money, your business, and your life."

Lucia may not (yet) get the press and hype of some of the other financial gurus that have television shows, radio shows, and books. However, if you read his book, you will see he is the premier guru in the country. If you don't agree with this comment after reading his book, I recommend you read his book twice and then listen to his radio show.

Great tool for retirement
I really enjoyed reading Ray's book, and it helped me to understand the "Buckets" philosophy he talks about on the radio. It's a great retirement strategy, although you do have to be somewhat disciplined at saving to make it all work properly. It also requires you to take money from only about 5% of your portfolio each year, which some people may or may not be able to do, so if you're used to taking huge chunks of cash from your savings each year you might not be able to follow it. It seems rather foolproof (which I like), and while it doesn't promise huge returns on your money (it's very conservative), it does make sure that you never run out of money even if we run into another "bad run" in the stock market. I wish I read it two years ago, but that's the breaks.

I also enjoy his radio show, he's much better than that boring Ramsey guy that follows him. Maybe I'll get the nerve to call in one day and ask a question to the Braintrust!

Doing Research in Business and Management : An Introduction to Process and Method

Doing Research in Business and Management: An introduction
Concise, reader friendly, and useable. Many research method books manage to lose or confuse the reader within the first few chapters. This book deals with most of the major issues of social science research while maintaining a practical focus. Of particular use to research masters and PhD students.

Excellent overview - strongly recommended
This is an excellent book on research methods. I would recommend that any business school Ph.D. not think a second time about buying this one. An extensive literature review at the end was very useful, although some URLs mentioned are rather wimpy and no longer working.

Essential reading for business and management post grads
This book has proved invaluable in helping me formulate my research strategy for my PhD thesis. I will continue to find it a most useful reference text.

Very Good Educational Book About Money!!!
This book is the best book for young children to actually visually see what money does and what it looks like in different countries. Very good educational book.

Great place to start
I have an older version of this book. The latest has added a section on shared currency. The cover on the older version has more exotic coins such as heart cutouts. However any version of this book shows a lot of colorful pictures of script and coin. There are simple descriptions of the making of and measuring of money. If you are a coin collector the descriptions help enhance the collection by telling what the symbols represent on the coin as well as some tog the history. My only disappointment was the lack of information on porcelain notgeld. This makes you wonder what else may be missing. Well you can not stuff everything in to 64 pages with pictures.

Excellent Educationl Text
I'm a teacher and I find the Eyewitness books highly educational. I like the way the concepts are presented in a form without backgrounds. This gives clear facts to the reader without over taxing the attention span. The books are highly informative, presenting difficult concepts in comprehendable chunks that stimulate interest. I have almost the whole collection for my own children and they LOVE them!
