Why the 1990s experienced a series of financial crises
Financial Markets, Money, And The Real World by Paul Davidson (Editor of the "Journal of Post Keynesian Economics" and Professor Emeritus, University of Tennessee, Knoxville) is an informed and informative study of why the 1990s experienced a series of financial crises with terrible repercussions that reverberated throughout the global market. Focusing on the central role that domestic and international financial markets play in affecting the economic growth rate, and offering prescriptions to improve worldwide economic viability in the 21st century, Financial Markets, Money, And The Real World is a highly practical, forward thinking, and strongly recommended reading for students of Economics in general, and the interactive, interdependent global financial markets in particular.

Bright future in which states are decreasingly able to steal
The future of digital money may be a way to effect economic government -- the replacement of the coercion of the state by voluntary institutions. According to this book, advances in encryption will allow digital money transactions to be verifiable by induplicatable signature, yet encrypted to be utterly indecipherable by states (or other busybodies). The Future of Money in the Information Age is a great collection of essays that together paint an optimistic picture of a near future in which states will find it more and more difficult to exercise control of money -- their lifesblood. Highly recommended.

The Gold Standard in Theory and History
Published in Library Binding by Routledge (08 September, 1997)
Authors: Barry J. Eichengreen, Barry J. Eichenberger, and Marc Flandreau
Amazon base price: $36.95
Average review score:

Excellent!
Eichengreen and Flandreau put together a tour-de-force through the most intriguing meanders of the gold standard, a monetary system governing world trade and payments from 1870 to World War II. From the simple and powerful analysis of Hume in the eighteenth century, the book features many contributions from the most influential architects of the system. Keynes, Nurkse and Triffin speak from its pages. Also, contemporary leading economists, with the perspective that only history provides, analyze it in hindsight. A must have for the economic historian and the monetary economist.

A wonderful and timely read
In a time where the words of Alan Greenspan affect the lives (and wallets) of millions of Americans, this book brings the politics of the Fed to life for the everyday reader, and presents a comparison with the German central bank (the Bundesbank), where it seems that decisions are made in a much more collegial matter than the U.S. Federal Reserve, where one man can dictate the sway of markets. The book is accessible to academics and non-academics alike, and is about as sexy as a book about the politics of banks can get. Overall, it's a must-read for anyone interested in the politics of money, from scholars to daytraders.

How to Do Financial Asset Investigations: A Practical Guide for Private Investigators, Collections Personnel, and Asset Recovery Specialists
Published in Paperback by Charles C Thomas Pub Ltd (April, 2000)
Author: Ronald L. Mendell
Amazon base price: $30.95
Average review score:

Mendall is essential reading for financial investigators
In this seminal textbook for conducting asset searches, Mendall's provides the tools for analyzing a subject's financial situation. The emphasis here is on painstaking research in public records to develop a detailed portrait of the subject. Every investigation of this kind starts in the local courthouse with hard work, meticulous attention to detail, careful notes, and other not-so-glamorous means of retrieving, organizing, and analyzing information in order to provide intelligence to a collection attorney. Using the techniques in this book, one can locate real property, business, bank accounts and other asset for postjudgment execution. I highly recommend this book. It is always on my shelf and I find myself consulting it repeatedly. I only wish that Mendall had included more case studies

Inflation, Depression and Economic Policy in the West

If only there were enough stars...
This is a branch of economics whose nuances and subtleties have been debated and redebated ad nauseam, but here is a book which, although now almost 20 years old, has not only not dated in its relevance and importance to the study of this crucial field, provides us with many of the answers for which future generations of authors have been striving.

Not only is this a work of economic genius, but stylistically it ranks among the greatest works of English and world literature, and reading it was one of the greatest pleasures I have known. To the economic and non-economic among you, I cannot implore you too strongly to read this book while you still have blood in your veins, and while your lungs continue to move air in and out of your body.

This is yet another great book from perhaps the greatest economic thinker ever to live. Thank you, Mr Courakis.

fruitful and timely discussion
"Inflation, Unemployment, and Monetary Policy" is one of the most serious problem in the developed countries, especially my country Japan, which is suffering a severe unemployment problem for a long recession. Because of the continuous Government's spending policy. Japanese fiscal situation is deteriorated, so japanese economy's last hope is a monetary poicy. At that time, reading this exciting book and studying excellent opinions of 6 notable economists are truly fruitful. In this book, 6 economists make a poweful and exciting discussion...of course, there is no perfect solution...But, I believe that I can make a firm basis for thinking this severe problem.
