very helpful informationI read this book after starting my new job as a debt collector and it helped me to triple the amount i was collecting the month after I read it. I only read the areas that directly affected my specific job, so I can only speak for some of the book, but what i did read was well written and very informative. A definite for anyone collecting or dealing with credit collectors.

Crime of 1873: The Comstock ConnectionI thoroughly enjoyed reading Robert R. Van Ryzin's "CRIME of 1873: THE COMSTOCK CONNECTION". This meticulously researched book offers an original perspective on one of the most colorful chapters in U.S. history. Of particular interest are the previously unpublished letters that expose the collusion of a high government official with a powerful California banker. Interwoven throughout Van Ryzin's story is the lore of gold and silver strikes and the characters who made mining in the West such an important part of American history. This book takes a close look at the creation of the U.S. Trade dollar, the Morgan silver dollar, and the famous Carson City Mint. Van Ryzin's chapter on the Free Silver Movement gives insight into this often misunderstood political movement, led by William Jennings Bryan. With financial wrongdoing ever present in contemporary reporting, the CRIME of 1873 drives home to readers that having the best government money can buy nothing unique to our times.

This Book Is HotThis book is hot. It's an easy-to-read how-to guide for setting up your very own currency board. O.K., obviously most readers don't have that in mind, but the arch, wry tone of the book keeps it interesting and makes even the greenest beginner want to read further. Also, it's tightly written and short. I never knew there was so much to learn about currency boards - most newspapers, for instance, explain it out in one sentence, and there's really much more to them. The book also lays out every single argument against currency boards, and offers excellent well-reasoned counterarguments and solutions that really persuade. Many people think a currency board is a good idea, but also think there are problems that make it impossible in the monetary wastelands of the developing world. They WILL find irrefutable answers here, answers about about reserve levels, setting exchange rates, drafting constitutions, whether country size matters and how to head off potential corruption. It's so detailed it's kind of funky - it bossily tells you where you should get your money printed, for instance. I've never read anything on monetary policy so easy and entertaining. You read this and feel like you've got your very own fiefdom to take care of, and you've just read a terrific how-to book on money-repair. Recommended reading for busy central bank chiefs, finance ministers and IMF bureaucrats everywhere!

An expert-level dissertationFeaturing a new introduction by its expert authors Michael D. Bordo (Professor of Economics and Director of the Center for Monetary and Financial History, Rutgers University) and Lars Jonung (Research Adviser at ECFIN, European Commission, Brussels), Demand For Money: An Analysis Of The Long-Run Behavior Of The Velocity Of Circulation is an in-depth scrutiny of the "income velocity" of money -- an inverse measure of the demand for money balances that is the ratio of the money value of income to the average money stock that the public (excluding banks) holds in a given period. Examining data from several countries spanning the late nineteenth century to the late twentieth century, Demand For Money draws patterns and searches for causes in economic fluctuations as well as the key influences that interrelate with monetary policy. An expert-level dissertation written for advanced students and practitioners of economics, Demand For Money is a critically important contribution to Economic Theory, International Economics, and Economic Policy Studies supplemental reading lists and academic library collections.

An essential read on Laissez-faire moneyNobel laureate F. A. Hayek makes a powerful case that government involvement in providing a medium of exchange (money) is neither necessary nor beneficial. In fact, government provision of currency is a threat to both liberty and financial stability. Hayek points out that governments have everywhere and always undermined the value of their currencies to reap revenue through inflation. He argues, convincingly, that the best hope for sound money lies in competition amongst privately issued currencies. This is an essential read for anyone interested in Free Banking or Laissez-faire Money.

As a teacger who has adopted this book, its excellent!I have used this book as the main reference for an honors senior seminar here at the American University of Paris and have found it to be an excellent text for analysis and documentation. Willem Molle, the author, knows the EU from within and as such he can explained it better than any other author that I have used in this connection
