Excellent introduction to monetary growth modelThe book is marvellous. It cover both continuous and discrete time monetary growth model. I use it as my reference in studying the exam. The math appendix is also brillant.

A comprehensive surveyThis book contains both the theoretical models of currency substitution and key articles and contributions. It is comprehensive even if a little slack in its mathematical expositions. It is a great survey of the recent literature on the topic but could be more coherent.

A Must Read for all 'Traditional' Fixed Income ManagersThis book does indeed fill an important gap in the literature - in bridging the quant and the strategist.
Simply put, the author has assembled a very readable set of ingredients from which one could 'proficiently' manage a corporate bond mandate.
The chapters on credit portfolio risk measurement and optimization are very informative and leave the right questions open to interpretation and future research.
The collection of analytical and simulation based approaches and empirical results is excellent and useful for everyone - no matter what the level of experience or expertise of the reader.
The reason for 4 stars is that I feel too much time was spent on discussing the KMV approach (which although well-known, has a number of weaknesses), not quite enough time was spent on the development of simulation-based approaches, and the author does not attempt to integrate market and credit risks directly.
This being said - there is enough detail in this book to lead the inquisitive reader into these subjects in more detail with a great background.
Excellent book

Terrific book for MarketeersI have read this book over 20 times. I have purchased 5 copies and given them away to clients. This book is wonderful for helping you create a marketing plan. The cartoons make it easy to read (what is inherently a boring subject) about marketing plans.

From a non-economistI used the book, particularly Eichengreen's chapter on modern perspectives, for a scholarly article I am writing. My field is speech communication rather than economics, and it seemed like a reasonably coherent book to me.

Good source of information for coin collectors. In depth look at Italy's monetary policy, including historical account of events that shaped monetary policy. Verbatim translation of Mussolini's speech on foreign exchange rates of particular interest. Covers financial scandals, reforms, etc. Somewhat academic approach, but still a readable book without too much latin chest thumping by the authors.

Wealth of information on an interesting subjectI just read Pamuk's book, it was my first written by him. I am a serious coin collector (Balkans) and this book was able to give me a lot of information I needed. Ottoman Empire has ruled Balkans for hundreds of years and there is so much influence in economic terms that sometimes it is very difficult to weed out the reasons why something happened. This book is excellent at pointing at right sources and further reading. It is very readable once you decide to leave out all the footnotes until the end. But something like this is expected from a historic scientific book as opposed to a historic novel, I guess. Nevertheless, if one combines this book with classics by Album and Schaendlinger, one can get a very good picture of the subject at hand. Apart from sometimes tediuos readablity, it is an excellent book. If it had more story-telling oriented text in it, it would have been even better for me, but this is a very personal matter, I guess. Highly recommended!

Insight into the tricky world of Monetary PolicyThis book consists of collected papers from leading economic intellectuals and their discussions on a variety of economic issues. One of the contrbutors is N. Gregory Mankiw, a Harvard professor, whose lucid style makes him eminently readable. But be warned this book is not for novices! A solid understanding of many microeconomic and macroeconomic issues is a necesary prerequisite to reading this book.

A Thumping Good ReadThanks to Norvik Press for making this novel (among others) available in English. Benedictsson's tale of an innocent girl manipulated into a marriage she's neither ready nor suited for is a page-turner. Selma Berg is not your stereotypical 19th century heroine - she's neither a victim, a doormat, nor a "gentle parasite," to borrow a phrase from Thackeray. She's not a paragon of virtue, either - like all the characters in the book, Selma has her share of flaws, but ultimately she's a protagonist you can like and even admire. A feminist writer who ranks with Karin Michaelis and Amalie Skram, Victoria Benedictsson deserves a wider readership.

Money and European Union

Money and European Union by Stephen F. OverturfAlthough a book about any subject dealing with issues as complex as a multi-national currency can be a ponderous read, Overturf holds your attention by guiding the reader toward a pointed conclusion at each chapter's end.
His final synopsis is a lesson in skillful writing of a subject that will affect every country in the global village of international trade. This book is for those serious followers of government policy, politics and paper money.
