Covers Vordenberg's attitudes, aspirations, and motivationsMomentum: Chasing The Olympic Dream is the 191-page autobiography of two-time Olympian, National Champion, and current US Ski Team Coach Pete Vordenberg. A frequent and popular contributor to ski magazines, Vordenberg ably narrates his life in skiing from his youthful efforts to his adult accomplishments around the world. More than a simple chronicle of obstacles and accomplishments, Momentum: Chasing The Olympic Dream is an engaging read that covers Vordenberg's attitudes, aspirations, and motivations. Adeptly written with personal candor and a flair for narration, this engaging personal memoir is informative, entertaining, and occasionally inspiring. If you've ever strapped on a pair skis and dreamed of Olympic Gold, then you will want to read Pete Vordenberg's Momentum: Chasing The Olympic Dream!
Join the momentumMomentum is not only what author Pete Vordenberg has on skis; it's what he uses to propel the reader through this dynamic book! It's hard to put down as you follow Pete from junior high trials to Olympic trails, from Swedish snow to Mexican mermaids, from inspiring coaches to aspiring competitors. But I find myself stopping to savor the flavor of particularly vivid passages such as the first snow coming to northern Michigan or to laugh at the hilarious antics of the athletes as they seek balance from intense training. Skiers will appreciate Pete's training notes and motivational insights, but everyone will enjoy the authentic flow of the conversations he captures on paper, and the sympathetic portrayal of the the unique people who have crossed his path from fellow skiers to famous skiers, from escapees to Baja to an over-weight lady jogger, among others. This book is a kaleidescope of adventure both for those who pursue their dreams with determination and discipline, and for those who prefer just reading about those who do.
DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ!Just kidding, everything in this book is absolutely true. Read it here first. Thanks Pete for writing a great book, but more importantly thanks for telling the world about the time I wiped with poison oak! ouch.

Mathematically intense but very usefulIf you have reason to perform calculations involving angular momentum - particularly in quantum mechanics, nuclear physics, particle physics, etc. then this book is for you. It provides a concise but complete exposition of the theory of spherical tensors and angular momentum decomposition. The notation is somewhat dated but still quite understandable. Recommended.

It's a Nussenzveig's book->it's good!I have studied Physics with the Nussenzveig's collection "Física Básica" (just avaiable in Brazil) and I can say he is a very good Physics Teacher, and better, a hardline Physics Teacher! His book on diffaction would not be different, and I think who wants to know what matters about diffraction should read this book!

Want to know angular momentum? Read this book! This book is a good self-contained exposition of the theory of angular momentum for students at advanced undergraduate or early graduate level. Covers many of the same areas as Brink and Satchler, but the explanations and approach are different (less formal). The two books complement each other very well.

Indispensible for spectroscopistsThe comprehensive treatment of angular momentum in quantum mechanical applications. The authors' aim is to provide a working handbook for all quantum mechanics applications involving angular momentum: atomic, nuclear, and molecular spectroscopy, particle physics, scattering problems, and quantum optics, among others.
The text is lucid and well-translated from the original Russian. It provides a smooth commentary on the compiled formulae and tabulations. Notation is scrupulously consistent and leaves nothing to the imagination. The book includes a glossary of symbols and notations, and an up-to-date reference list.
From the preface, "[t]he monograph is a kind of handbook. Consequently, the material is presented in concise form. Most of the formulas and relationships are given without proof." This approach is consistently followed and renders the book more of a formulary for the field. Recursion and generation formulae for Clebsch-Gordan coefficients and n-j symbols as well as thorough and easy to use tabulations make this text more useful than any sophisticated symbolic mathematics software package. Other topics include irreducible tensor representations, algebra of spherical harmonics, and Wigner D symbols. The digressions toward the geometric interpretations of symbols and applications are quite beautiful and can provoke browsing. The low-cost paper edition can save serious researchers frustrating hours when the library's copy is "missing". My first copy is dog-eared. Fault the publishers for thin paper and spartan production values, but that keeps the cost reasonable.

Excellent introduction to Angular Momentum in QMI found this book to be very helpful in gaining a deeper understanding of the role of angular momentum in quantum mechanics. It was also a good introduction to Lie groups and Lie algebras for someone whos background is in physics and not math. I've found the book to be an invaluable reference!

The Dance of Change : Challenges to Sustaining Momentum in a Learning Enviorment
Published in Unknown Binding by Random House Audio (16 March, 1999)
Amazon base price: $29.95
Since its release in 1990, Peter M. Senge's bestselling The Fifth Discipline has converted readers to its innovative business principles of the "learning organization," personal mastery, and systems thinking. Published nearly a decade later, Dance of Change provides a formidable response to businesspeople wondering how to make his programs stick. He outlines potential obstacles (such as initiating transformation, personal fear and anxiety, and measuring the unmeasurable) and proposes ways to turn these obstacles into sources of improvement. Senge--with considerable help from the team who worked on the follow-up development manual, The Fifth Discipline Fieldbook--presents an insider's account of long-term maintenance efforts at General Electric, Harley-Davidson, the U.S. Army, and others who are learning organization, along with experience-based suggestions and exercises for individuals and teams. "We are seeking to understand how people nurture the reinforcing growth processes that naturally enable an organization to evolve and change," Senge explains, "and how they tend to the limiting processes that can impede or stop that growth." --Howard Rothman

PonderousWhile I enjoyed this work and read it from cover to cover, it did begin to seem like too much of good thing. Some of the organization information seemed dated and some of the people who are offering advice are probably no longer held with such high regard in their former organizations. In any case, I would recommed it to anyone who is doing graduate or post-graduate work in organization and management or just wants some insight into how organizations really work.
The Best Long-Term Perspective on Change ManagementOf the FIFTH DISCIPLINE SERIES books, THE DANCE OF CHANGE is by far the most important for you to understand. THE FIFTH DISCIPLINE and THE FIFTH DISCIPLINE FIELDBOOK are wonderful, valuable books, but they largely avoid the tough question of how to sustain a Learning Organization initiative. Based on lots of experiences in different companies, THE DANCE OF CHANGE is the most realistic, thorough, thoughtful work on achieving large-scale organizational change that has ever been my pleasure to read. I immediately found it helpful in overcoming some of my bad habits (including falling in love with my own jargon rather than using common English). Since I first read the book about 9 months ago, I have found it affecting my consulting practice by causing me to focus more on lasting change, than immediate change. That's an important lesson for everyone. Like THE FIFTH DISCIPLINE FIELDBOOK, THE DANCE OF CHANGE allows you to focus on the areas where you need help the most. The beginning is a wonderful systems-dynamic analysis of how successful change occurs, and how it can be derailed. Like THE FIFTH DISCIPLINE FIELDBOOK, you do not need to read THE DANCE OF CHANGE from front to back. I found myself skipping around, and enjoyed the experience. Even if you do not want to have a Learning Organization, you will find THE DANCE OF CHANGE very valuable for giving you direction on how to achieve permanent, valuable changes. On the subject of achieving the strategy you wish to implement, I strongly urge you to also read THE BALANCED SCORECARD. These books are good complements to each other. For picking up on your most important issues, you will find Peter Drucker's MANAGEMENT CHALLENGES FOR THE 21ST CENTURY to be invaluable.
