Not a good book for a computer science course
As an undergraduate in computer science, I absolutely hate this book. It places way too much emphasis on object-oriented programming (OOP), instead of concentrating on its main topic, data structures. It makes an artificial distinction between what it calls the "user" of a class and the "developer" of the class, and tries to introduce pre-programmed data structures first from the "user's" point-of-view, and only later mentioning the real implementation of the data structures. The author apparently fails to grasp that students cannot truly understand data structures until they have programmed their own data structures from scratch. The book also makes excessive and superfluous use of things such as preconditions and postconditions. For example, how truly enlightening is the following postcondition for the IsEmpty() method of the ArrayList class?

// Postcondition: true has been returned if this ArrayList object has no elements. Otherwise, false has been returned.

If you want a good introduction to Data Structures, then you should look for a different book, preferably one that uses a better language than Java. Okay, I admit that C/C++ pointers are difficult to learn at first, but after you've used them for a while, it's fairly intuitive. Java's "references", on the other hand, are easy to use at first, but when you try to implement linked data structures, they become confusing and non-intuitive.

Dense book, Focuses on Linked Lists
This is a rather dense book and spents more time on Linked Lists than any other Data Structures in Java books I have seen on the market.

Based on Proxy 1.0
I agree with first set of comments, if you are looking for a book complementing version 2 of proxy server you better wait. New proxy 2 features such as Packet filtering, etc. are not discussed in this book.

Very outdated - based on beta
The biggest problem is that this book was mostly based on the beta version of MS Proxy (called Catapult). So, it did not include key elements of the product that were critical to know for the corresponding Microsoft test. The book only helped with about 40% of the material in the test, so get plenty of hands-on. Regarding the author, Mr. Wolfe's writing style was too juvenile for a professional book, which didn't add to the overall quality.

Monster C++
A very poorly writen C++ text book, intended for junior college 200 level class. This book was never proof read, it contains numerous typo and syntax errors through out the entire text. Some errors are so bad that they will cause a new student to waist hours on example code that can't possible work. Incredably, one section of the text was copied word for word from Stephen Parta's book C++ Primer Plus, yet no credit is given for Mr. Parta or his book. Save your 60 bucks and put it toward more memory for your PC. I keep this book in my library just an a novelty to remind me how bad a text book can be.

GCC Student
The book was good once we applied the errata from the instructor's web site. He also handed out revised chapters in class. First book I have seen that offers any mention of initialization lists for constructors. I liked the standards recommended and the Hungarian Notation since I want to be a Microsoft Windows programmer.

This text and the software is loaded with errors!!
The concept of this book is excellent. The execution is absolutly horrible. The software is loaded with errors and I was unable to get in touch with the author to resolve the issues. I wasted considerable time in trying to use the text and software and I would not recommend this text!

Using the Internet for interpersonal communications
Informative guide to using the Internet as a way to network with other people, as opposed to just browsing websites. An easy read, written for "newbies" to understand. Ranges across many topics: email, discussion groups, mailing lists, file transfer protocol, search engines and so on. A little dated now, printed in 1996.

A not very good sequel...
This is a remake of a previous edition, to include fuzzy logic. References are outdated, and the applications of fuzzy logic to large scale systems (the reason I bought the book for) are not very interesting: inverted pendulum examples, function approximation, and vague references to the really "complex" large-scale industrial systems.

A wizard for the wizards
If you can't seem to follow the directions of the wizards that come with SBS 2003 (or want a second opinion to confirm that what you're actually reading in the wizard dialog box is, in fact, what is printed there), then this book is for you! Maybe that's what "companion" means - you can follow along with the wizard. But if you're looking for something more, well, it is pretty in hardcover and should look impressive (albeit dusty) on your shelf.

However, if you're the type of person who is admining an SBS server, then you're probably somewhat technically proficient and probably require resources beyond what is to be found in this book. I bought it for help with two problems I was having, which after visiting the SBS 2003 community newsgroups I discovered lots of other folks are having. This book does not address these issues (DNS and XP Pro issue, the Nov 24 Sharepoint issue) nor does it provide you with the information needed to solve them. I also reviewed some of the other more common types of probs folks had and I don't think I could have fixed them just from the info in this book, either.

Frankly, you're better off with Microsoft's Knoweldge Base articles and the SBS 2003 Community group. But it is pretty, thick and impressive looking. Its just all style, little substance.
