Riddled with errors
This book definately need an editor. Many of the examples, even the basic examples are riddled with errors. It is an ok read but don't expect to be a novice after reading this book.

It provides little information about Verilog-A
This book is the only one that I can find in the bookshelf discuss Verilog-A language. I expect it can provide some examples to model a real world analog circuit using Verilog-A language, but I am disappointed because this book provides only simple description about resistors, capacitors, etc. You can't even find how to model an opamp in this book.

followup on prior review
the book introduces the methodology to analog behavioral modeling - starting with basics and then introducing complex examples (in the biggest chapter). the examples include an opamp and characterization of it. maybe the other reviewer did not get that far. a valid drawback is that the most recent specification for Verilog-A/Verilog-AMS has changed since publication (most constructs are still valid though).

Save yourself the waste of money you will inccur if you purchase this book. If you're looking for a decent book I suggest the Sybex or Microsoft line of books.

There's a reason why so many used copies are for sale....

Not worth your time
Straight to the point: I don't recommend this book.

The descriptions of components and services in Windows 2000 were vague, there were multiple grammatical and spelling errors in the text, and (based on all the sample test material I have seen so far) this book really does not prepare you well for the 70-221 -- rather, it would seem to be better used as a "reference" should you need a quick definition on what something is. But, the book's use of acronyms without spelling them out or listing them in a glossary even makes that difficult sometimes.

All in all, this book really dosen't prepare you for the test very well. Your money would be better spent on a book that tells you how things can and should be configured, and gets into the nitty gritty about whatever topic is being described... rather than give you a brief description of what something is. As busy as they are in this book trying to define every single computing term, they tell you very little about how to configure them, and almost nothing about the scenario(s) in which specific configurations would be helpful.

I passed exam because of this book. Recommend for all beginners.

Total Snmp: Exploring the Simple Network Management Protocol

Don't waste time!
I bought this book thinking that it would provide some new insite into SNMP and all it contains is basically a rehash of publicly available documents on the internet with little additional insite into the world of SNMP. Save your money!

Worthless Index
The book is ok for someone trying to implement a manager or agent but the index is totally worthless.

Best "How to write a MIB" book out there!
Writing MIBs can be a daunting task and there is not much information out there on how to do it, except for the cryptic RFCs. This book lays out what is in a MIB from top to bottom and gives the syntax and examples for writing one along the way. I read Understanding SNMP MIBs, the highly rated counterpart to this book and guess what...I DID NOT UNDERSTAND MIBs after reading it! This book explains it in a more straight forward manner.

Waste of Time
This poorly written "guide" ... but it is a waste of time and money for anyone who really wants to understand MicroStation...it is incredible how weak this "guide" is; Evident after only a few pages is the fact that the author was merely putting together a book for her students ...-- without much knowledge of the software application! If you have money to burn and time to waste while waiting for a REAL guide to MicroStation, then go ahead....otherwise skip this ...

The book for someone want to know MicroStation
You can find most of the content of this book in help file of MicroStation. This book is extremely basic. It doesn't get any topic too deep. If you are looking for an solution, this book won't work. This book is for someone who learns MicroStation for fun.

Microstation made easy
I think this is a great book. It is simple and explains concepts and ideas. Compared to the usual "Dummy" books I think this book is great. It helped me learn MJ in about a day

This book has many faults
After reading this book to find some information with Active Directory Connectors, I found errors that the author should have known better. For example, the book states that the Exchange ADC can only be installed on a Windows 2003 Domain Controller.... this is completely false.
It also mentions to change the LDAP port if you are running Exchange 5.5 on a Windows 2003 Domain Controller... according to Microsoft, Exchange 5.5 can not be installed on Windows 2003, much less a DC.
I could write a more accurate book than this.
Find a better book that gives more accurate information.

There are better to be found
I thought this book was pretty average. I know its not an exam prep book, and it certainly wasn't, but I didn't think it was much of an administrators guide either.

I found myself getting contually frustrated with the theory, and not enough practice. Buy Unleashed, or go to winstructor.com and get their videos, both are much, much better than this.

Just what I needed
This book helped me come up to speed in Exchange Server 2003 when I got sort of thrown into supporting it at work. It sounds like that last reviewr didn't get past the intro material. The first part of this book is all about architecture and planning. It was kind of dry and a bit more than I was ready for just learning about Exchange. But, starting with chapter 7, the book is all action. It takes you through installing, setting up recipients, storage groups, routing groups, administrative groups, and everything you need to know to get a server up and going. It has a great section on security. I get asked a lot of questions about that at work. It even talks about disaster recovery and performance tuning. The writings pretty easy to follow. They use lots of supporting pictures and step by step explanations. I just skipped the first 6 chapters and plan to come back to them after I've been using it a while.

Riddled with errors (typos and fundamental flaws)
So far my class has found over 150 errors in this book ranging from sloppy code (typos) to fundamental flaws in the material being presented.

Many of the errors in the code examples are due to a mixing of pascal and c++ syntax. These errors are tolerable but unfortunately some of the code examples also have errors in the algorithms. This makes it much too difficult for the students to know when to trust the book and when to disregard it. On top of all that some printings of the textbooks present one algorithm while another student's textbook will have a completely different algorithm (for the same function!). Along that same line the code on the floppy disks are different from book to book and the programs are riddled with programming errors.

In the text there are several mistypings where the wrong word will be used. For example the word 'stack' appears where 'queue' should appear and the word 'front' appears where the word 'top' should appear. Again this is horrible for students who are learning this material for the first time.

There are also errors in the exercises. For instance, one exercise vaguely describes the algorithm for a Breadth First Traversal on a tree. The algorithm was ok but the example traversal was COMPLETELY incorrect! Not just a mere typo but a clear misunderstanding of how BFT works.

I've emailed both authors and the publisher twice asking for an errata, there has been no reply.

I do not advise the use of this book for a course. There are plenty of other C++ based data structure books that this book can be easily avoided.

Horrible: will keep your students completely misguided
There are quite a few questionable C++/Data Structures books out there, but this one is THE worst one I have encountered.

First of all, it's full of errors. Sample code available from the publisher does not fully correspond to the code presented in the book. Moreover, the code provided is incorrect in quite a few places, for example when it comes to the inheritance model - to the point where the code cannot be compiled. The use of templates leaves a lot to be desired in the architecture area - some of the code is plain obscure. If you ever thought STL sources were not crystal clear, look at this book and you *will* change your mind.

Secondly, the book will profoundly confuse your students. Recursion for tree traversal is mixed with operator overloading concepts. After generic container definition material is mixed with thoughts on inheritance model design, a reader is suddenly fed some algorithm time/resource complexity mathematics. There is no way authors even remotely thought of Meyer's minimal class interface design. It almost seems like the authors (with all due respect) were showing off their knowledge of C++ syntax. Such behavior is frowned upon even by veteran programmers adhering to the K.I.S.S. principle, not to mention C++ students who want to actually learn from the book.

Do your students a favor. Do not use this book.

2 stars for pretty ambitious effort as far as the depth of the material goes.

My background: professional C++ developer/instructor in the financial sector.

Good, but source code needs improvement
An otherwise good data structures book is hampered by some occasionally sloppy code that sometimes won't compile with the GNU compiler. There are other first-edition type problems including two identical illustrations purportedly depicting two different graph spanning tree traversals. Hopefully these problems will be fixed in the upcoming second edition. I'm also a little curious as to why the authors wrote and included their own code instead of using the c++ standard template library.

So annoying I took it back and got a refund.
I found the "humor" in this book so annoying that in the end I took the book back to the store I bought it from, got a refund, and ordered a Sybex title from Amazon instead. Also considering that most people who buy this title probably do so to study for their CNE, it might be an idea to organize it by exam subject matter rather than just jumble it all together.

A confusing maze with far too much irrelevant chatter
While this book contains most of the information one needs it's hard to get through the confusing maze of silly stories and irrelevant chatter to find what you are looking for. as a double MCNE with a teaching background, I have managed to get some 20 people through their CNE training using this book, not because it's the best or even good, but because up until recently there was no alternative. I am desperately looking to replace it as a reference text.

The book that opened Certification to the masses
I read this book three years ago and found it enjoyable (he does have a weird sense of humor)and it prepaired me to take 5 Novell exams without attending one class. I cheated and got the course material for 4.1 Admin.... Today I just finished my recert for NetWare 5 for CNE and CNA and used his newer books for Admin and Advanced Admin.

This book that I read 3 years ago has led me to all my other certifications and a to great career. I just wish he'd write a book to deal with the CCIE Lab exam....

If you really want to read it,try to find it at the library.
I'm a computer science student working on a masters degree and looking for a thesis topic. CA are an interest of mine and I thought this book might give me some ideas. My first complaint is that there was obviously no quality control. The last paragraph on page 6 is mistakenly reprinted on page 7, and the same thing happens again on pages 8 & 9. Ok, not a huge problem, but it does lead me to question the validity the rest of the book, and when one pays close to $$$$ for a book, it's a slap in the face when such a simple error is not caught before mass publication. I don't know if there is more than one edition, but my copy has a 2000 copyright.

My second complaint is, like another reviewer stated, the reader is often left scratching his/her head trying to understand the rationale/logic of statements as often little or no explaination. I haven't been able to figure out Table 2.1 which is an example of mapping Wolfram Rules (a widely accepted and understood rule numbering scheme) to the author's (I presume) invented "w-set". I tried using his explaination: W7 = x0; W6 = x1 - W7; etc... to make sense of the table but I couldn't get the results in the table using his algorithm. I'm not saying he's wrong, though my faith in the correctness of the book is shaky, but he doesn't clearly explain himself.

Good ideas but few explanations
This book is definitely not for beginners. It has a lot of ideas inside but a only a few of them are explained. Moreover, C-Code doesn't seem to work. I can't wait for the (un-bugged) second version. Good try though.

Excellent Resource
I thought this was an excellent book. I'd been briefed on cellular automata before reading this book, so I did not find the read difficult. This is not a book for beginners; I feel it is more geared towards those who have a basic understanding of cellular automata and want to go deeper and learn more. This book discussed inventive uses for the cellular automata rule (particularly data encryption, which I found to be an exceptional use of the rule). If the author writes another version...I will be one of the first in line to purchase it.

You must be kidding!
I want the book titled migrating from NT to Novell Netware 5!

I cannot see anyone in their right mind going the other direction!

This Whole Book is Absurd
Migrate from NetWare to Windows NT? Who in their right mind would even consider such a move, now that we have had the best part of three years to compare NetWare 4.11/4.2/5.0 with NT Server 4.0.

This book presents a formula for disaster, and in my opinion, it would now constitue actionable professional negligence on the part of any network engineer who even attempted such a migration.

Of course, the integration of NT Server 4.0 into the NetWare NDS network with NDS for NT is another matter altogether. If one needs or desires NT Servers in a network, one first constructs the firm foundation of the network (NetWare NDS), and then the NT boxes are brought in with NDS for NT.

Integration is the key to success on this issue. Migration is the way to disaster. Hopefully, this book will not be reprinted.

I wanted to move to NT and this book helps!
Like the Macintosh/PC debate, the NetWare NT debate will always cause heated opinions. I wanted to move to NT and I'm glad I did. NT is a much better NOS in my opinion and this book helped me!

I was really desappointed
As a modeler I consider this book less than basic, and of course useless if you want to improve or just learn any kind of technique. There is a lack of unity and coherence among the descriptions.
I would describe this book as an introduction for a beginner.

For Beginners
This book is more of a curiosity coming from a long line of worthy Kalmbach / Fine Scale Modler publications. The book covers basic skills using plenty of color photographs, but Kalmbach's "Modeling TANKS and MILITARY VEHICLES" by Sheperd Paine written twenty years ago (and which is still available) is more useful and remains more informative. If the title included "Introduction to ... " or "For beginners" I wouldn't have bothered to write this review. If you want to see "realistic" looking armor models, you won't give the cover of this book more than glance. The cover's tank looks like a plastic model in basecoat primer with some chalk dust sprinkled on it, which frankly isn't very inspiring. I would recommend this book to beginning modelers; but for those who have built a few kits, this book will soon gather dust of its own.

Pictures tell more story than words
Modeling Realistic Tanks and Artillery : An Illustrated Guide is really helpful and most easy to understand by all AFVs modeller. This is one of the illustrated guide series by the author and his first book on Tanks and Artilery. Consist of 5 chapters which covers all basic tehniques from removing seams, cutting parts from their sprues, detailing ,scratchbuilding, building interiors to weather and finishing an AFV project. It's very neat and easy to understand and get the idea by looking at one photo while words consumed more space and pages to be visualised. Also included the AFV gallery of colored photos.
