Not Very Practical.
I bought this book based on the title, and I was hoping it would give me a practical, real world understanding of noise effects. Unfortunately, for me, this book was far too theoretical. I doubt that many practicing digital VLSI/ASIC engineers will find this book remotely useful. If you're looking for information about how noise affects VLSI designs, and about how to make your designs noise-robust, you won't find it here.

Not Practical. Interesting Theoretical Discussion
This book is not Howard Johnson's "Black Magic..". It is not one of the many books discussing practical rules of thumb to solve EMI and signal integrity issues. It covers the basics but the emphasis is to understand the modeling and simulation of signal integrity issues. It is theoretical but not in a very complicated mathematical way. You don't need to know Maxwell's equations, but you need to be able to follow some simple matrix equations. The book can be a little hard to read at some points but some of the sections are a joy. For example, the simple models showing the skin effect and current crowding are the best I have seen in any book on this subject. Without using any advanced math, but simply breaking down the wires into a few sections and using nothing more than inductance, mutual inductance, and resistance, the author shows how skin effect and current crowding come about. The section on capacitance matrices, definition of partial inductance and the different definitions of inductance: Field-based, Energy-based, and thin wire, clear up many questions I had about these concepts. When I first started using this book for a class I took, I had bought Daly's book as I thought it was easier to read and covered more practical subjects. I have completely changed my first impression. Daly's book although containing many practical subjects is badly written, while this book which doesn't have the friendliest fonts and presentation is actually a very good book. I have to thank the instructor for choosing this book. I would have never bought it on my own.

OBVIOUS AND SENSATIONALISTIC
Of course it is essential to be informed about this and any industry in which one plans to become involved. But this book is intended to be sensational, to scare poor parents into fearing for their daughter's (or son's) safety and psychological health. All good parents already fear this. Some step-by-step instruction and real information on how to find your place in the industry, how to deal with agents and clients and sensible advice on communicating effectively with your teenager (who wants to model) would be far more helpful

The Most Important Book Written On The Industry
MUST HAVE This book is crucial for your collection! The Glam Scam should be on every single bookshelf, regardless of which aspect of the industry you work in.

Enough praise cannot be given for the value... the back blurbs are not hype -- this is the most important book to read for anyone even considering a career in the Entertainment Industry.

Exceptionally well organized, and packed with informative content... Mr Joseph is well spoken as he not only covers the monetary scams, but also those of a more dangerous nature.

If you don't believe the praise, visit your local library and read just the first few pages -- I can guarantee you'll be racing to pick up your own copy... and when done, you'll feel grateful you did as well. After years in the industry, I continue to praise this work, and refer to it often when guiding others in the industry...

This book is a definite Must Have on very single bookshelf...

too "smart"
I bought this book for my project and I thought, that it going help me, with new ideas on design on Database System. It didn't help at all I spend 2 hours on reading of that and didn't found any thing new for me.

This book will be really good for those people who are working on PHD in Computer Science.

If you programmer you don't need that, stay out, don't waist your time to reed this book. I am really absent because I waist my time. O yes one more I count the pages that authors spends on References - 36 pages

O Wow We got a "winner" from 450 pages only 36 on reference. After that I got just one question to authors did they get after this book PHD in Computer Science? I think they got it.

Don't Waist your time and money to bay this book.

a useful book
It is a very complete book. It provides a detailed description of both extended database models and knowledge representation techniques, and how they can be integrated.

The worst windows 2000 book I've read to date
This book has been very poorly edited with numerous typos in the text and the illustrations which make it confusing and frustrating to read - I would hesitate to buy another book from this publisher again. Buy something else instead - this isn't worth the price.

Good way to learn AD
I read Curt Simmons'Creating Active Directory Infrastructures book and bought this one as well. This book is very easy to read and covers AD in a visual way. The book crawls all over the AD tools and shows you how to and why to configure this or that. It also has info about design and planning as well as DNS, DHCP, and other networking services. It's kind of a different way to learn a high level topic, but I liked it, and it will be a great reference book.

Practical Geostatistics and Visualization
Practical Geostatistics breaks new ground in providing excellent interactive media to supplement the text. In fact, there is more information in the hyperlinked text on the enclosed CD then there is in the text book. The CD is full of colorful 2-D and 3-D renderings and visualizations of various example data sets. Regretfully, the text focuses more on the visualization techniques then on the art of evaluating spatial data. There is little or no discussion of the mathematical concepts behind geostatistics. The worked examples show excellent summary visualizations for the provided data sets, but do not walk the reader through the processes of semi-variogram analysis, cross-validation, kriging, or stochastic simulation. I would recommend this book as a reference for someone interested in presenting geostatistical data evaluations using informative visualization techniques. If the reader is interested in aquiring an understanding of geostatistic, I would instead recommend the texts by I.Clark, P.K.Kitanidis, or C.Deutsch and A.Journel.

Geostatistics is also an art
This CDROM + book is a special document in the world of the geostatistical literature.

First, it is an interactive document full of illustration, easy to read and navigate. Second, the philosophy is not to emphasize the mathematical aspects but more to demonstrate the importance of taking into account the complex geometrical structure of the geological bodies into succesfull geostatistical studies. Of course, the basics of the theory are presented, but this is also available with much more details in other recent books (see Geostatistics : Modeling Spatial Uncertainty by Chiles and Delfiner for a complete excellent reference). Third, the CDROM demonstrate the application of the approach on real complex cases (2 mining, 1 soil pollution and 1 tunnelling projects) where the geometry of the layers, faults and bodies is controling the processes. Last, all the data sets are provided.

In summary, if you want to see how geostatistics can be applied in real situations, this is the book you need.

Worst book I have ever seen
It is a total useless book a complete waste of money. I endup returning to store.

Good book for pratitioners and students alike
This book fills the void for a much needed concise book on spatial databases, specially GIS. It provides a good overview of many topics related to GIS, carefully balancing between theory of GIS and its practice. I found the chapter on data mining in spatial databases particularly useful.

Good Topic, Poor Delivery
I am currently researching the use of a stochastic simulator for a Ph.D and as such make a point of seeking out any literature in this regard. Regarding the book, the concept is good but the delivery very poor. The book is expensive when you consider the size, knowledge content and quality of presentation. The book itself is also poorly bound and presented. The author has a tedious way of presenting the subject, which is unfortunate since the market requires better efforts at explaining the benefits of using stochastic models.
The only thing of value in the book is that a portfolio needs to be constructed in such a way to allow for market variability. The days of relying on a straight line calculation, extrapolated out forever are gone. If you can grasp my last sentence then there is no need to buy the book.

One of a kind!
This book is a great introduction for advisors and savvy clients getting into stochastic financial planning. I find the deterministic methods (with a constant rate of return) to be dangerously optimistic. This book clearly establishes the pitfalls of using the traditional deterministic methods

It's the only book I know that focuses on the much-needed mission to convert clients and planners to financial planning using stochastic methods that take market volatility and the client's risk tolerance into consideration.

I recommend it to anyone who wants to get a look at the big picture and look forward to Glenn's next book.

This book covers all aspects of connecting an NT machine to other computers via a local-area network (LAN), a dial-up connection, the Internet, or a combination of these. It opens with a discussion of electronic communications technology, including bandwidth, modems, various LAN types, telephone company services, and the mechanics of sending data across a communications network. It then explains how to use communications software such as HyperTerminal and various online services under Windows NT Workstation 4.0. There's even a discussion of setting up and running a bulletin board system (BBS).

Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Internet & Networking Handbook pays full attention to using NT Workstation on a LAN, though often it's a general discussion of LANs rather than of NT-based LANs in particular. The description of how to use a computer running Windows NT Workstation 4.0 as a server for a network is outstanding. Dial-up networking also gets its due coverage, and there's also a somewhat elementary section about how to use the Internet. The accompanying CD-ROM contains shareware and information about hardware and software from Windows Magazine.

Overall, Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Internet & Networking Handbook provides a competent guide to the issues inherent in connecting one computer to another. Though the approach may be a little elementary for knowledgeable NT administrators, almost everyone else will find something useful in this book.

Average review score:

Surface-level analysis of NT Networking for novices
This book is not appropriate for detailed specifics of NT networking. It is geared heavily toward the networking novice.

Absolutely first rate
A must have book if you're running Windows NT Workstation 4.0 and want to connect to other computers

Good book for beginers in groupware field (Exchange)
Well this book is little bit "out of date" but it still can provide good introduction in Exchange. Also very helpful tips and tricks can be learned. I think for beginers in Exchange on little bit older platform is almost ideal book for others, on the other side, little bit out of date.
