Technology oriented collection of essays
This book is technology-focused with an emphasis on software-to-business alignment from the perspectives of quality and fit. It's a collection of papers that cover the range of related topics, including systems dynamics, object-oriented business process modeling, exploiting knowledge in adaptive workflow systems and modeling and metrics techniques.

Process improvement strategies are related to software quality and are highlighted in two chapters: (1) ISO 15504, SPICE (Software Process Improvement Capability dEtermination) and FEAST/1 (Feedback, Evolution And Software Technology), which was sponsored by Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The material on FEAST/1 has been superseded by FEAST/2, but is still valid. Both SPICE and FEAST/1 chapters provide evaluation frameworks for determining software processes, which in turn is an indicator of how well systems modeling aligns to aspects of business processes.

The chapters which I felt were especially useful dealt with requirements and modeling, including:
- "Information Systems Specifications within the Framework of Client-Led Design"
- "Developing a Business-IT Co-Evolutionary Change Plan"
- "Relating Organizational Symbiotics, Process Modeling, and Stakeholder Viewpoints to Elucidate and Record Requirements"
- "Modeling Organizational Communication: Top Down Analysis & Bottom Up Diagnosis"

These reflect my current professional interests; however, I also gained insights from the chapter on FEAST/1 and "Modeling Information System Requirements for Complex Systems", both of which were thought provoking and addressed subtle issues that I hadn't previously thought of.

This book is not a primary text on business process modeling. It is most useful to experienced process improvement and requirements analysts and modeling professionals. Also not that much of the material needs to be force-fit to approaches such as UML, but does supplement UML and Unified Process methodologies if you keep an open mind and extract the key ideas presented.

An interesting new approach!
A very interesting approach to learn UML: to follow the thoughts of an expert explaining the pros and cons of various mofeling solutions. Very deep coverage of use cases, class and state diagrams. The part on OO design is fully compliant with Larman's OOAD approach. A must!!!

BEST RESOURCE BOOK ON NETWARE 3.12
I inherited a computer network that uses Netware 3.12 and because of application software, the operating system could not be upgraded or replaced. Of course, the entire system crashed two months later and the nightmare began.

Novell does not support Netware 3.12 nor did our application vendor support their software. I decided to learn how Netware worked and restart the system.

I have read 10 or more books about Netware 3.12 and this book is the best of the lot. I discovered the book when I used search engines on the internet to answer various questions about 3.12 Time after time, pages from this book appeared as a source of material and nearly 99% of the time provided the answer.

I purchased the book and found that I didn't need the other books because this book answers any question a novice could dream up about Netware 3.12.

I highly recommend this book and any other book by the author because this book is rich in the detailed information needed by a new user.

Oh, It took six months to restart the system and I will offer this assessment of Netware 3.12. It is a good solid piece of software but I would never use it because it is very complicated and difficult to use even if it is running correctly. After my experience with 3.12, I would find it very hard to purchase any of the newer versions of Netware because it would probably be difficult for the user despite it claims to mirror Windows and the steep price.

Visual Modeling with Logo : A Structured Approach to Seeing

I have take a course AND read this book...
I study in the American University of Paris and I was lucky enough to take the LOGO - Visual Thinking course in my freshman year with Professor Clayson, the author of this book. I am inclined to think that anybody who might want to take advantage of an utterly simply computational environment to explore tiles, matrices, objects, etc. visually would be very interested in this book. It gives you theory and indications of using perhaps one of the most easily operated and logical computer languages available to be able to look at various visual objects and ideas. I highly recommend this book to anybody who is attracted to non-traditional ways of thinking and problem-solving, which involves building of simplified models to make sense of more complex ideas.

Understand other's models to build yours
I was looking for mathematical models to build an ALM software and obtain the best performances from this software. None of the theories shown in this book perfectly matches my customers' requests, I could proudly build my own model, joining some of the models I read to grant my customers' satisfaction. Thanks to the Newton Institute, I could find both existing and currently building models.
