Best, most useful CNA and CNE test prep/reference ever.
Organized by test, perfect for CNA and CNE test prep, expect to pass a test per week. I PASSED A TEST A DAY FOR FOUR DAYS STRAIGHT, then passed 3 tests in 2 weeks while working full time days. With your new CNE-4, expect the book to pay for itself in the first week of your new pay rate increase.....Mine did. Pass a test---get a raise..... ALSO, great DESK REFERENCE organized by subject area. Sections for each test, from CNA 4.1 through 4.1 ADVANCED ADMIN, 4.1 INSTALLATION, 4.1 DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION (NDS trees and replication), NETWORKING TECHNOLOGIES (protocol stacks), SERVICE AND SUPPORT (troubleshooting), AND NETWARE PRINTING....all the neccessary CNE 4.1 tests are presented in a clear and easily understood manner. Each section has enough depth for EXPERT LEVEL on-the-job real-world competence, AND is presented in about 200 pages per test. This makes each test easy to "get your arms around" very quickly; compared to all the other Netware books I've bought (lots), the information just flowed off the page and into my brain. This book made all that "complicated" Netware stuff very understandable. (PS. Take Netware Printing as your elective---so TCP/IP counts towards your MASTER CNE, since you will want to know printing and TCP/IP for today's market) As a desk reference, this book is a first-choice resource for quickly confirming the proper way Netware 4.1 should be installed, how to operate utilities, security issues, and how NDS replication should be configured.

What you need to consider when choosing a modeling technique
OM&UID is a book about developing new object-oriented methodologies for interactive software. Nine different methods are presented by an international team of software experts like Larry Constantine and Philippe Kruchten.

All the authors are trying to solve constraints or deficiencies in existing methods. Since these are all new or experimental techniques, each author explains exactly what problem s/he is trying to solve, where the new method might be best used, and how it worked in practice. Most of the sections work through a couple of cases, so you can see how the method works.

A couple of the writers have pointed out how difficult current heavy-weight methodologies are to use. The models generated, unless the modeler is extremely experienced, are usually not correct. What's more, as the first chapter notes, the modelers don't realize that their models are bad. A couple of writers have tried to deal with the problem that business customers can't understand UML-style notation, and don't mentally describe their jobs in terms of classes or windows. That cuts customers out of the system design process at exactly the point where they should be most engaged.

The editor repeats what is generally recognized: that very few people use a methodology as such. Most of us use a grab bag of techniques from a mix of methods, heavily customized to our own needs. Mark van Harmelen's book may be best addressed to those who use mixed methods, because it helps us to see how experienced architects decide which techniques to use in different circumstances and how we can determine whether we were successful.

A Jewel to Understand Object Orientation & its Applications
I teach Object Oriented Analysis and Design in a University in Pakistan. I taught this course two times before and I am teaching this course third time. I happend to come across this book in a book store. It seems good to me, I bought it. In my point of view it is the best starting book on this topic. Now I am using this as my text book for teaching the course. Previoulsy, I had to consult so many books to make students understand the history, purpose and meaning of object orientation. I did a lot of research. I consulted OMT by Rambaugh, OOAD with applications by Booch, OOSE by Jackobson then Applying UML by Graig Larman, Applying Use cases and so on. After seeing this book, I believe, all my problems have been solved. It is concise, to the point and comprehensive starter to understand this subject.

I would strongly recommend this book to those people who are new in this area and want to have a strong grip on the subject.

Last but not the least, excercises at the end are very helpful.

Current, expansion and implementation of object orientation
In one book (of less then 250 pages) the author manages to explain about the state of the art methods and modelling approaches for object orientation. Besides, he explains his own methodology (M2PO) for developing objects and translating them to simulation objects and he explains an example case using his approach. Not only proves this book the authors knowledge of the technique, but he also explains and founds the contents understandable. Hatts of, great book (2000-06-29)

the most complete book on climate and ocean circulation
Being the manager of an EAS office in France (bureau d'étude d'impact sur l'environnement), the book represent a great help for my work. Despite the price, all the datas are useful. From deep water to ocean surface circulation, from sattelite global observation to shipboard observation, you will miss no data, no equations and no methodology (that's the bestpart for my office). For people who want to work in this field of research, this book is a masterpiece. Not only for the professionnal qualities of the authors but for the synthesis of the WOCE. This book is within the reach of any person with a background in sciences. I highly recommended this book to university students in oceanology. And the structure of the contents is clear and readable. Learn the future of our planet and the CO2 poison progression.

Kudos for "OMT Insights"
I recommend this book highly. Reading "OMT Insights", along with "Design Patterns", has had a profound effect on my thinking about analysis and design. The book is worth it for the discussions of Model/View/Controller and reification alone. I particularly liked the format of the book. It was like reading short stories! The columns are short enough where it's possible to gain valuable information in a short period of time.

Optimal Inventory Modeling of Systems: Multi-Echelon Techniques (New Dimensions in Engineering)

Thorough treatment of multi-echelon,multi-indenture models.
Excerpted from the original Logistics Spectrum review by Dr. Jezdimir Knesevic, 1993

The book is written for the logistician who is concerned with the achievement of the required operational availability of systems, and whose main objective and responsibility is to make decisions related to inventory items, item location and investment in spares. The optimization methodology developed considers trade-offs between stock at the operating locations and supporting depots (also called the multi-echelon problems), and between stock levels for an item and its sub-items (also called the multi-indenture problems). All models developed are on an analytical nature, which provides the decision-maker with an efficient tool for the determination of optimal stockage policies.

The philosophical concepts of the book are addressed in Chapter 1, followed by the corresponding mathematical techniques in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 covers the mathematics related to the joint optimization of stock levels at operating and stockage/supporting bases. The estimation of demand rates that do not stay constant is considered in Chapter 4, where the negative binomial is used as a model, together with models that are based on the Poisson distribution (variance-to-mean ratios equal to one). The mathematics for a multi-echelon, multi-indenture optimization are developed in Chapter 5. The problem concerning periodic resupply for repairable items is addressed in Chapters 6 and 7. The associated concept is subsequently illustrated through an example application related to the Space Station Freedom. The main subject of Chapter 8 is the cannibalization problem and the associated mathematics. The last chapter, Chapter 9, of the textbook is dedicated to practical real-world problems relating to modeling and application of models, where both advantages and disadvantages are analyzed.

Undoubtedly, a book of of such great integrity deserves a place on the shelf or any person, library, or organization whose interests lie in the domain of inventory theory and its application to complex systems.

A comprehensive treatment of optimization applications.
I have used this book in a course that I taught on Optimization applications. The students like the wide range of realistic examples in the book. The resulting models are linear and nonlinear, with both continuous and integer-valued variables. For many applications in distribution, finance, and production, some of the template models can be used almost "off-the-shelf". For complicated applications, sophisticated students can use the modeling language to create new applications. The powerful spreadsheet interface is very useful for retrieving data from and inserting optimized results into spreadsheets. The software that accompanies the book is state-of-the art.

GRADE A TEXT
Several months ago I was given the assignment of teaching Autodesk Inventor two weeks before the start of the fall semester. I had never used the software before, so I was apprehensive at the least. I decided my first order of business would be to find a text from which to learn the software.

I searched on-line for several days for a text that would not only help me to learn the software, but one which could also be easily understood by a beginning student working independently. I found the Schroff Development Corporation's website and their texts were exactly what I was looking for. I ordered a copy and with it in-hand, headed into the lab. Needless to say, I chose the correct book. I was up and running in a matter of hours and had literally worked through the entire book a single day. I later found that most of my students had much of the same success. My more advanced students were working ahead several chapters on their own without difficulty.

Mr. Shih has done a fine job of presenting the material in such a way as to not overwhelm the reader with information, nor bore them with menial projects. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a thorough, well written, easy to understand text.
