Mahraj who worked with the Inductive Learning Algorithms
The book "Inductive Learning Algorithms for Complex System Modeling" by Hema Madala and Alexei Ivakhnenko decsribes the learning algorithms in the first few chapters. First chapter gives historical perspective of complex nature of the subject. The next few chapters explain the importance of selection criteria and various computing algorithms.

These algorithms are similar to the artificial neural network algorithms which are being used widely in analysis, identification and predicting the fuzzy complex systems; only difference is that they are inductive in nature. They have different strategy in their forecasting approach.

The authors have dealt with the data from some real life complex systems and presented their results. They have given some comparitive results with the functioning of neural networks. Finally the actual source code has been supplied. This is still a valid code and one can convert it to utilize for modern data mining applications which come under the arena of internet CRM applications.

Though this has been first published in 1994, these algorithms are still valid for the modern usage. It would be worthy to consider for publishing a second edition by adding some latest contribution on the topic from the authors.

There is no other book available with such a valuable elaborative information on the topic.

Meat and potatoes
There are numerous books that provide countless tips on Information Architecture such the creation of information infrastructures and blueprints, web design, and user experience. However, this book provides us with an overview of how exactly an Information Architect fits into our world and their importance within it.

It supplies information regarding the steps one needs to take to become an Information Architect such as educational opportunities. These educational opportunities are beginning to appear with more frequency (i.e. - University of Baltimore, etc.)and this area of specified education will be pioneering into the future. Personally, this was the most important part of the book for me because I have been doing research to locate an appropriate PhD program (Information Science, Communication, Library Science, etc.) with a concentration in Information Architecture. The book has confirmed to me much of my research and provided additional invaluable information.

The book also describes the future of the discipline and the profession itself. This is a book that is full of facts about schools, to corporations that Information Architects work within, to the expertise that is needed in this flourishing profession.

I have been searching high and low for a book like this. I was looking for the meat and potatoes of the profession and how to get there. That is exactly what I got.

CRUD for initiated
I was surprised to find no image of the cover of this book and no customer reviews. At the second thought, it makes sense. This book is for IT practitioners with solid theoreteical background in Computer Science. The book is not complex, but requires patience. It is about all the object-oriented theory behind the most fundamental behaviour of object instances - Create - Read - Update - Delete. All explained in terms of theory of sets using logical predicates, which is part of formal logics.

Anyway, once I bought and read this book in 1998 - 5 years ago - I was hooked on object orientation. Microsoft's ADO, J2EE's EJB's and JDO instantly and naturally made sense to me once they surfaced in IT practice as newly emerged technologies.

I have impressed and opened the eyes of many people of intelligence with my super deep understanding of these issues yet numerous hight tech red necks vere left unmoved.

If you want to feel CRUD and brearth CRUD in Obj-Orient. terms, plus to have really deep knowledge of Object-toRelational mapping, buy it and read it. Plus, buy Kilov's 'Business Specifications' book.

A good explanation of ISD methodologies and future potential
This book is a review of exisitng Information Systems Development (ISD) methodologies and the place each has had in the paradigm of IS. While providing an in-depth look at the issues surrounding each of the methodologies the authors have also provided a look at a newly developing paragim in ISD, that of neo-humanism.

A book well worth reading if you have an interest in the history of ISD, or you are looking for material on the theories behind each of the methodologies that make up the history of ISD. These authors suggest that there are four paradigms associated with this topic, make up your own mind.

They also include a philosophical perspective on data modelling but this may be a bonus to the main issue of ISD methodologies.

Good for those keen on learning
Friends, it difficult to tell you everything about this book. But in a nutshell this book is really very good. There are a lot of topic like making various models, materials, textures, rendering effects which are covered in depth. This book teaches you to make vareity of complex models and how to make it look more realistic.. Stevens has given good example which are easy to follow. This book guides you through to become a professinal in the field of 3D Studio. On finishing this book , I am sure, you will definately feel confident to work on this graphic package. Stevens has made the whole 3D Studio look very simple. people who have never worked on any graphic packages, will also find this book very interesting. As you read this book there will always be a curiosity to know more....... so start venturing into a whole new world of 3D Animation. Its very exciting. Good luck and good bye.

For Serious Developers
If you have cut your teeth on Donald Knuth's classic three volumes, "The Art of Computer Programming", and you want more detail, at a similar level of complexity, then consider Storer's book.

It delves into lists, recursion, trees, graphs, heaps and sets. Like Knuth, Storer thoughtfully supplies an extensive list of questions at the end of each chapter that will greatly deepen your appreciation of the field if you tackle them. Ok, he doesn't give answers, but think of that as greater incentive on your part to solve them. There are almost 400 questions in the book.

The teaching style is similar to Knuth, in that it has all the rigour needed by an algorithm designer like yourself, without drowning you in epsilon-delta ultra rigour like a pure maths text.

Note that the only code fragments are in pseudocode. This should not be a problem for you. I am assuming you are experienced enough that what you need is understanding of an algorithm, and that manually converting it to code is straightforward and a purely secondary issue.

The take home message is that this is excellent for anyone doing serious programming.

this is about directed graphs not graphics
Because graphic methods are very popular in statistics, when you read the title you might think this is a book on the use of graphics in statistics. That is not what the book is about. The directed graph on the cover might be a hint for some. The book deals with the theory of undirected and directed graphs which has applications to causal modeling in statistics and the development of expert systems (which Edwards claim are now more commonly referred to as probabilistic networks).

This subject is being made popular again based on the recent work of Edwards, Pearl and a few others. The book incorporate the approach in many classical statistical problems. This is not commonly seen except in specialized texts on latent variable models.

Edwards discusses implementation of the methods with the freeware MIMS that is available in Denmark and on the web. The book is very well written and applications in MIMS are given throughout the text. Edwards also provides us with an excellent list of references (over 200 with many on causal modeling).

The software LISREL produced by researchers in the US at UCLA for latent variable and path analyses is only briefly mentioned on page 217. The lack of coverage of American and British publications on this topic is the only drawback I see.
