Vaulable resource for HR and non-HR professionals
One of the most challenging tasks I undertake as an information technology (IT) consultant is developing organizational models that are designed to optimize IT service delivery to the business process areas that IT is chartered to support. Often I have found myself crossing boundaries between IT processes and the domain of expertise owned by HR. Ultimately HR is responsible for reviewing and approving my findings and recommendations, so this book is especially valuable in that it has enabled me to see the problems and challenges through the perspective of HR.

Among the unique perspectives that this book has provided me are: (1) there are vast differences between organizational and individual competencies. Both aspects need to be carefully examined before a viable solution that meets organizational and individual needs can be crafted. This is especially important for IT consultants because the workers remain in high demand and retention in the face of aggressive recruiting has to be factored in or your IT corporate knowledge and skills will migrate to competitors. (2) Determining whether the goal is quality or excellence. They are two different things and the definitions are hard to pin down. For example, is customer satisfaction a quality or excellence goal? In IT it can be both. (3) The fact that competency can be modeled and measured. Prior to reading this book I went on past experience and narrowly focused books such as IT Organization by Kern, Galup and Nemiro. While that book addressed IT organization from IT's perspective, it was missing the techniques and processes used by HR professionals. As such, the competency modeling and reporting (CMAR) process and associated techniques in Effective Competency Modeling & Reporting have enabled me to approach my analysis in a manner that is consistent with HR practices and produce findings and recommendations that an HR professional will understand.

Some of the other strong points about this book are: (1) it employs a coherent process that is augmented by software tools (Competency Coach® for Windows, whish is also provided on the CD ROM accompanying the book - the version that comes on the CD ROM has a limitation on the save function); (2) step-by-step procedures for performing competency modeling, (3) assessment procedures used to measure your results. In addition, the book includes a sample 72-item model that covers common competencies, a sample position standards spreadsheet, a sample skills-based assessment instrument and other files and artifacts that add considerable value to this book.

Bottom line: while this book is aimed at HR professionals, the information and approach provided is not limited to HR. As a reviewer who is not an HR professional I rate this book at five stars and give it my highest recommendation. I suspect HR professionals will do the same.

Self-help guide for curing manic depresion & stress woes
Emotional Mind Modeling experiments between sanity and insanity, waking and dreaming, the conscious and the subconscious to create a higher sanity and to allow the manic-depressive to mediate his unwanted highs and lows. EMM is written in a simple conservational style language that is easy to read. The reader is taken inside an insane mind. Mental experiments are much like a vaccination. The mind is pulsed to manic highs for short periods of time to train the mind slowly to cope with and control its mania. Models are given to allow the mind to discover itself. The mind must be aware of its emotional scars to cure itself. Techniques are much simpler than Freud's method's for evaluating the mind. The mind is cured through understanding (mind models) and physical exercises, psychophysiotherapy. Physics is used rather than chemistry to cure the mind. A creative approach is used to blend science and Christianity. Science supports the Bible

Diff between this one and Modeling in the fundamentals book
so, figured it out just now, even though it was pretty intuitive to begin with. Essentially this book caters to the graduate audience whereas the author's other book: Excel/Spreadsheet modeling in the **FUNDAMENTALS** of corporate finance/investing caters to the undergraduate version. While this is what I assumed, I could find no proof of it until now, at the authors website hidden in an obscure corner.

Hope this helps someone who is making a buying decision.

The basics are covered at last!
This is one of the reference books I keep in my studio. It covers techinques on materials that are not covered in other sources. The set up of the book is logical and helps one to understand the materials and techinques valuable to a sculptor focusing on the figure and other forms of expression. So valuable are these techiques as they offer a sculptor the opportunity to quickly create his design with the use of fairly inexpensive materials. i highly recommend this book to anyone serious about sculpture.

The Text for Mathematical Models of Reality
From discrete to continuous modelling, with many proyects and examples, I like very spacially this book for the undergraduate level. The presentation is very clear, but rigurous, making experience the reader through the models. It focuses on the interpretation and ends with some tools for modelbuilding. For a start of mathematical model understanding of reality this book is specially good, clear and completely well written. Good job Mr. Giordano and Weir! Very helpful
I had to learn formZ for my profession and I've gone to great lengths to do so. I had already taken two courses from different instructors and I was still feeling very unstable and was about to start a new job where I really needed the skills. Stressed-out and feeling at a loss, I did a search on the web and found this book for the new 4.0. While I already had a great understanding of the program, this book showed me so many ways to do things I had not yet been taught and I was able to do it on my own. The information is clearly laid out and easy to understand. Icons let you reference exactly where to go but the best part was the tutorials. I have not been able to find in any class or supporting material that came with the software, tutorials that let you practice. This was the most helpful as it's never enough to just know what everything does. You need to implement the info. This book saved my life (and probably my career!!)
