Delta-Sigma Modulators: Modeling, Design and Applications
Published in Hardcover by Imperial College Press (September, 2003)
Authors: George I. Bourdopoulos, Aristodemos Pnevmatikakis, Vassilis Anastassopoulos, and Theodore L. Deliyannis
Amazon base price: $56.00
Average review score:

Good for beginners.
If you have problems in understanding other delta-sigma books, Bourdopoulos' book will be good for you.
I am searching for an introductory book for my students, but most other books are either too difficult or focused on narrow topics.
Bourdopoulos has many step-by-step explanations for equations that other books skip.
Also, I like that the authors are providing solutions for the end-of-chapter problems on the web.

Diesel Detailing Projects: Prototype Modeling in Ho Scale

Great Diesel Projects...
I have read the Diesel Detailing Projects. I must say that this book is all you need to get started on your first model. I have recreated a different model than the first model, but, this book helped me out with various tips and tricks of the trade. I suggest that you buy this book and read it if you are into the hobby deeply.

Really good Differential Equations Modeling Text
The aproach to modeling and the clear, sistematic but rich and rigourous presentation by Weir and Giordano is magnific. You work through all Differential equations, but all the time learning on how to use them as modeling tools of reallity. It has also a solutions manual.

Discrete Event Systems: Modeling and Performance Analysis (The Aksen Associates Series in Electrical and Computer Engineering)
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math (February, 1993)
Author: Christos G. Cassandras
Amazon base price: $107.81
Used price: $80.18
Buy one from zShops for: $60.00
Average review score:

A must-read for any Discrete Systems Engineering
Cassandras' "Discrete Event Systems" is up there with Horowitz and Hill's "The Art of Electronics", Strang's "Introduction to Applied Mathematics" and Hayt and Kemmerly's "Engineering Circuit Analysis". These books all share an ability to take a complex area and cover it broadly, yet keep the reader interested and convey an infectious enthusiasm for the subject.

Cassandras builds a basis for presentation by weaving together such diverse topics as continuous systems models, discrete time systems, automata theory and Markov chanis. These are used to present the notions of timed and untimed discrete event systems and elementary queuing theory.

The theoretical developments consume about 6 of the 9 chapters. In addition, there is an excellent appendix on basic probability theory. The three remaining chapters (chapter 4, 8 and 9) focus directly on simulation.

At any rate, this text requires minimal background (elementary knowledge of probability and differential equations) and it will leave you with a respectable background in Discrete Event Simulation -- and a whole lot of other related topics.

A great introduction to control theory. However, it would help if you know something about differential equations. I read Ogata's book on control (over 900 pages) from cover to cover twice and still could not figure out exactly what state variables are. This book explains things very well but you do need to do the problems at the end of each chapter. The use of "free-body" diagrams is a great idea.Ogata's book is great for explaining a lot of the details but this book explains the important things in a concise but easy to understand manner. I now finally understand how to draw a system diagram by starting from the inputs for each separate system. Everything is brought together -- system diagrams, transfer functions, state variables, the purpose for LaPlace transforms, and input-output models. This is not a book about control theory and it is covered in only the last two chapters but if you are taking, or going to take, a course in control theory, read this book first. It will save you a lot of frustration and bewilderment.

Can't make it simpler than this
The book is very well written. It's very simple to understand and follow. By solving the examples, the rest of the problems just follow through. I took the class with Doctor Vu (one of the authors) and he just makes the material not only entertaining but very easy to understand.

Dynamics of Organizations: Computational Modeling and Organizational Theories

An exciting future for organizational analysis!
Lomi and Larsen recruited an outstanding set of authors to explain and apply a new generation of agent-based computational models to the problem of organizational change. Using state-of-the-art simulation methods, with clear explanations and superior examples, the various chapters show how principles from genetic algorithms, neural networks, and cellular automata can be applied to the emergence, persistence, and disbanding of organizations (and other hierarchical macrostructures). I particularly liked their well-considered decision to emphasize multiple levels of analysis within the same models. This is a sourcebook that advanced students of organization studies should have on their shelf.

Dynamics With Friction: Modeling, Analysis and Experiment (Pt I) (Series on Stability, Vibration and Control of Systems. Series B, vol 7)

review
The book is important because most of nature, machines, and structures involve dynamical friction. The preface alone is worth the price of the book, along with a summary of the importance of friction in nearly everything. Excellent technical features are the wide range of simple to complex models, stability versus instability studies, well-presented results, and mathematical
approaches that transverse from the simple to the complex.

Easy Does It
I teach a basic internet class twice a week at our local library (volunteer) and although the Dummies books have good content I have found that most of my students respond to "picture books" far better. Also the "Why should I do this" seems to anticipate a dirth of questions and answers them before they are asked. I pass the book around in the class and just about everyone copies down the title and other pertenent information. Thanks for making my teaching easier and my students better computer and internet users
