Journey of Two Cultures
Countdown Review

I liked this book because it taught that you may live in two different worlds but people can be the same in different ways. Elliot first found out that he was the first teen in space. But little did Elliot know that it would change his life forever. Vincent a young Maasai herder, That gets involved with white man. When Elliot went in to space that's when Elliot talked to Vincent for the first time ever. When Vincent talked to Elliot for the first time, they started fine. The minute Elliot started to make fun Vincent's god Engai, Then Vincent Started to make fun of Elliot's god. After several days of fighting on the radio, Vincent and Elliot learned their dads were not that different to each other. That's when Vincent's dad grew ill and needed a doctor in the Maasai land, Vincent needed Sembeke's help to cure his father. At the same time, the space shuttle Endeavor started to have problems on board. Therefore, the space shuttle and its crew had to make an emergency landing in Africa. When the authority heard, they flew Vincent to were the space shuttle would be landing. When Elliot herd he wanted to stay in space but he no choice, To meet Vincent. When the space shuttle landed, Vincent and Elliot meet each other in person. They both realized that they weren't so different after all even know they had different beliefs.
The reason people should read this book is it teaches you that you don't have to be brother or sisters to be alike. I recommend this book to anyone who is into social studies and likes different cultures. In addition, for people who just don't want to read, this would be a great book to just pass time. And for someone who doesn't like to read like me I would read it over and over.

My 7th graders love this book, so do I!
I have used this book with my 7th graders for the last two years and I have had good results with my students. I stopped another book we were reading as a class right after September 11, 2001 and had my classes read this book. There are many great lessons in this book. The two boys are from different cultures, have different Gods, and different cultural beliefs. I used these topics to lead many interesting discussions not only about the book, but how our culture and other cultures see each other and have different ways of working out our differences. I HIGHLY recommend this book as a teacher.

I love this book!!!!!!!!!
I got this book after grocery shopping. I was looking in the multicultural section because I desperately needed a book for a project in school. I looked at it and I didn't really think it would be that great but it was so good that an hour later I was asking my mom to get me a new book! The ending wasn't that great but otherwise it was the best book! All of the charactors actions were surprising. I highly recomend this book!

A Manual For Success
I had the golden opportunity to hear Rabbi Dosick, give a lecture several years ago at Temple Bet Breira in Miami for their annual "Scholars in Residence" Week. Rabbi Dosick touched upon several things as it relates to this informative book about parenting. Golden Rules is not a preachy, rigid stance but a personal, yet provocative approach that parents can take to show their children how they are an important part of the world society and how their contribution can provide a means to help the less fortunate. One walks away from this book with a somber sense that our respect of God is determined by how much we're devoted to service.

A Great Book!
I bought one after renewed twice from the local library. It's the book that I read it repeatly and learned something new each time. Great stories that children love.

Good for every soul
This is an amazing book for children of all ages! We all need to be reminded of these ethical values and Rabbi Dosick gives hundreds of parables which come to mind each day as we do our daily duties. Along with the parables, each chapter ends with a story to read with your children and age appropriate questions for discussion. My children love listening to the parables and my six year old son remembers them and talks to me about them when he see's their application in his little life. I highly recommend this book!

short stories about tough issuses
This book is a great book about teens dealing with tough issues. It touches on many issuse that teens deal with every day, such as teen pregnancy, drug use and abuse, not knowing how to handle. The fact that it is written as a group of short stories makes it that much more appealing to a younger audience.

If you are looking for a book that deals with tough issues in an appealing manner than I would highly recommmend this book to you.

Great stories...there's at least one for everyone
I read this book in less than a day. The stories were really realistic, and they're things that real teenagers face in everyday life. All the stories are by different authors, and I liked how they put a mini-bio after each of the stories to tell about that author's most famous books that had won the most prizes, etc. It helped, because if there was a story I really liked, then I could get the book with the longer version (most of the stories came from a book the author had written). It was an awesome book.

An excellent discussion tool for character education . . .
Given the recent trend toward violence with teenagers, this book provides a powerful discussion piece in the middle school classroom. The stories in this collection all have characters who face difficult moral delimmas. This can spark many classroom activities where students determine the best course of action. This gets young adults talking about character, taking responsiblity, and choosing the right path. Furthermore, the high interest level of the stories hook even the most reluctant of readers! It was hard for anyone in the room to put down.

There is even a recipe for East African chai (tea) included
Fatuma's New Cloth is an energetic and highly recommended children's picturebook about Fatuma, a young East African girl who learns about the complexities of the marketplace. There is even a recipe for East African chai (tea) included in this highly enjoyable tale by Leslie Bulion, whose engaging text is superbly complemented by the soft, watercolor-style illustrations by Nicole Tadgell.

Fabulous lessons! Very highly recommended
Fatuma and her mother plan to spend their day in the market. Along the way, various merchants suggest their wares make chai (tea) taste better, but she does not see how their offerings make the chai taste differently. Then at the cloth shop, Fatuma chooses a new kanga cloth from which her mother will make her dress. Each Kanga pattern is imprinted with a Swahili saying, many of which have more than one meaning. Fatuma chooses a kanga imprinted with this message: "Don't be fooled by the color. The good flavor of chai comes from the sugar." So she learns that just as surgery dissolves becoming something we cannot not see, so are the things make us special as impossible to see.

FATUMA'S NEW CLOTH provides not only an entertaining tale, but also a fascinating peek into a vastly different culture from most American children's. In America, we teach our children, "don't judge a book by its cover." In Swahili, the same lesson is expressed as "don't judge the tea by its color." Parents will welcome the message that the value of people lies on the inside where we cannot see. In addition, parents seeking to teach their children the lessons of acceptance of other people's beliefs and culture will find the story an excellent aid. In addition, authentic East African features and kanga patterns frame the pages, lending the text an extraordinary visually pleasing appearance as charming illustrations bring the text alive. An author's note at the end aids parents to further explain the nuances of the story. Also included is a recipe for chai, allowing young children to experience the story first hand. Very highly recommended.

A sweet taste for readers
The lesson tells us, "you can't judge a book by its cover." But the inviting jacket art for Fatuma's New Cloth makes a promise that is fulfilled by a story that is as lush and lively as its illustrations.

The dialog between Fatuma and her mother sings with love, gentleness and humor. The author creates a story that is appealing to both girls and boys and one that is useful to parents and educators.

This delectable slice of East African culture lingers like the sweet taste of chai. (By all means, try the recipe!)

I recommend Fatuma's New Cloth and I look forward to seeing more books by Leslie Bulion.

Excellent book on marketing strategy and tactics
I agree with the reviewers: this book is a hidden treasure. Very good content, oriented towards aspiring marketing managers. Covers lots of stuff (consumer behavior, competitive dynamics, pricing, promotions, channels, etc). Focus is on achieving quantifiable results. 5 stars book.

Best-ing Kotler as The Marketing Guru?
Excuse the above pun and forget the fact that this book is required reading in many top-tier MBA programs. This book stands on its own as an excellent marketing reference. Strategy, Theory, Best Practices, Real World Examples...this book's a marketing treasure trove. Only problem with books this good, you'll wish you had the hardcover.

Product Opportunity & Market Valuation
I found the text to provide an outstanding concise summary of product opportunity pursuits and valuation of business/product opportunities. The text includes lots of real world examples that reinforce concepts presented.

Practical, Actionable, Valuable Insight
Goeke and his team have done a wonderful job - giving managers the practical tools they need to move beyond talking about customer value, to implementing a value-based business practice - step-by-step.

It's all in there; the tools, checklists, approaches, and cases on how to do it. Important keys to growth in today's markets - which aren't growing. Important ways to move from "checking the boxes" of customer satisfaction, to building demand innovation and new value that can spell growth, additional profit, and real loyalty and advocacy. A must read for anyone navigating difficult - especially trying - business-to-business markets. On the "recommended list" of the Institute for the Study of Business Markets (ISBM) at Penn State.

Thought-Provoking and Informative View on Customer Value
Dominating Markets with Value provides the customer value manager with the kinds of tools heretofore unavailable. One of the more frequently asked questions about customer value that is asked of us at the American Productivity and Quality Center is "Now that I have the customer value information, what do I do with it?" Dominating Markets provides the answer and does so within the context of a well-designed and highly executable framework.

The book is organized into 5 sections. The first section, The Value Infrastructure, provides a compelling rationale for the conversion from a customer satisfaction orientation to a customer value perspective.

Section 2, The Measurement Component begins by introducing the reader to the product/market matrix, a unique tool developed by the authors that focuses the organization's resources on those critically important value opportunities.

Section 3 introduces the reader to the measurement-planning linkage. Here is where the authors illustrate how customer value information is driven into the strategic aspects of the organization.

Section 4, Improving Discontinuously, is another important contribution to the field. The key message is simple, no business performance enhancements will occur until the customer value information is used to drive change in key organizational value streams.

The final section is an extensive case study focusing on WesTrac Equipment, an APQC 2000 Best Practices Customer Value Management Partner. The case details how the VALTec framework was deployed in the Australian Caterpillar dealership to achieve truly remarkable results.

Dominating Markets is chock full of clear and wonderfully explicit examples taken from actual organizations that are in various stages of customer value management deployment. It is a good and interesting read, one that will prove not only enjoyable, but truly valuable to those interested in learning how to either begin the customer value management deployment process or sharpen their existing system.

Great tool for bargin hunters!
I was not sure what to expect when I picked up the book, but for [the price] why not check it out. It was much better than anything I expected or have read in similar titles. The author gives the reader a solid foundation for entering and exiting low priced stocks. The book is filled with lots of good examples of the right time to buy beaten up stocks. The primary focus of his selection technique is technical analysis, although there is a fundamental bent thrown in. If you are thinking that there are bargins to be had after the past 2 years in the market, this is a title well worth checking out.

Excellent Book!
Very helpful in determining what, where, and when to buy stocks that have experience significant correction. Since the latest 2000 correction in the market, one would think that people will pay more attention to this type of thinking rather than simple momentum investing.

Excellent details, charts, graphs and explanations of how to chart the beginning of a turnaround for stocks that have been corrected or depressed.

Highly Recommended!
The title of this book is a bit misleading in that it mentions the words "hidden values" which are usually associated with fundamental analysis. In fact, this book advocates stock trading based on charts. Everybody knows that we should "buy low and sell high". But when is the price of a stock "low"? This book will give you an answer.
