Blackbook in Black & White
The Offical Blackbbok Price Guide to United States Postage Stamps is official - in title only. Referencing the Scott Catalogues or checking with a stamp apprasier is the best way to get an idea of the value of a postage stamp. (Many of the Scott Catalogues are available in paperback and on CD-ROM.) Also the Blackbook has a limited number of colored pages - the front and back cover only. All other pages are in black & white. If you can afford it - go with the Scott Catalogues. For a wonderful, relatively inexpensive color guide to United States Postage Stamps, I highly recommend The Postal Service Guide to U.S. Stamps or the Scott U.S. Pocket Stamp Catalogue. Forget the Blackbook - it's over marketed.

OPERATION MISFIT
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Del Rey (12 July, 1980)
Author: E Hoffman Price
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $0.15
Collectible price: $2.12

An oldie, but not bad.
I found the novel to be predictable, but the story was fairly good. You can tell that the author is well traveled, as the main character is very astute about other cultures. My only real complaint was that it took the story too long to build up to the point where you really wanted to know what was going to happen next. There was also a lot of political commentary, AKA Fahrenheit 451 style.

R.N. Elliott's Market Letters: 1938-1946

Hmm
I'm an avid trader using Elliott Wave as my primary basis of market forecasting possibilities and trade off a specific Wave setup. This book is compilation of Elliott's old subscription based newsletters that teach and predict the market in his time. Commentary is by Prechter who adds some comments and clarifications at the end of each news letter. While Elliott is nearly a godlike status in my mind , I found this book is pointless for trading and learning purposes. Among the many letters and Prechter's annoying hindsight commentaries , you will find bits and pieces of the Wave based principles. I have found most of the useful information to be very basic Elliott wave, which can be found in Chapter 1 of most any modern Elliott Wave book. I also did not follow on many of the wave counts, which break many of the well known modern rules. This is understandable as EW was still in its infancy at the time of writing. Overall, this book has little or no value to a trader.

A poor substitute for a "real" coin catalog
If you think you are getting a bargain when you buy this book for its low price, rather than spending the big bucks and buying the Krause publications, think again. There are only 48 countries listed. If you collect Austrian coins, you are out of luck. The irony of the situation is that the single most popular coin in the world, the Maria Theresa Thaler, is not even listed in this book.

If you are a beginner and you just want a rough guide to the coins these authors consider to be popular, you might like this book, but if you are a serious collector of world coinage, look elsewhere.

A big dissapointment...
The book seems incomplete and inaccurate..Be *very* careful if you're evaluating coins with this book alone. In many *many* cases of world coins that have both common varieties and rare, valueble varieties, this book lists only the most common variety.

Sophomoric
Can't believe I waded through all three of these Georgia trilogy books. The main character, Anne Couper Fraser,is about 18 when the first book begins, and is emotionally 18 when the third book ends in her late 60's. She is one of the most selfish characters I've ever encountered and I certainly hope this woman was not that way in real life. No matter what happens to anyone in these books, her first reaction is what effect it will have on her. This is my first exposure to Eugenia Price and I believe her writing style is sophomoric. Could people have really talked that way to each other? (Sugar-y sweet). In addition the author is VERY repetitive. Each book could have easily been 100+ pages less. What could have been a very interesting account of real people in one of my favorite historical eras was a total waste of time.

not this time
If you've read more than a few Price books, it becomes visibly apparent here that she's losing her touch. Her characters become messy, half-done, overly sentimental, and downright cheesy. Please, give her a chance and get out of these newer ones. Check out the old ones. The St Simons Trilogy: Lighthouse, New Moon Rising, and The Beloved Invader; The Florida Trilogy: Maria, Don Juan McQueen, and Margaret's Story; and the first three of the Savannah Quartet: Savannah, To See Your Face Again, and Before the Darkness Falls (I can't personally recommend Stranger in Savannah, I didn't care for it). I had the pleasure of interviewing Miss Price back in the 80's, and she was a delightful lady with great talent, but with her latter books she took a spill. Don't waste your time. READ THE OLD ONES!!!!

a nice change
It was nice to read something that doesn't have me trying to skip over curse words two and three times a page! I consider the entire Georgia Trilogy worth reading. The Christian background is inspiring; plus, the novels were based on the life of a very real woman (supported by indicating places of burial and names of decendants in the Afterword of each book). The Christian theme and romanticized diction may seem boring to some, but read with an open mind and I'm sure everyone will find a point to enjoy.

The New Inflation: The Collapse of Free Markets
Published in Hardcover by Princeton Univ Pr (January, 1982)
Author: W. David Slawson
Amazon base price: $50.00
Used price: $8.93

20 years later . . .and Slawson has proved to be all wrong
This is the book that chased Professor Slawson out of economics. It was universally panned when it came out, and today, from the vantage point of 20 years later, we know with certainty why. Inflation, which struck terror into the hearts of millions during the 1970's, could only be cured by draconian wage and price controls, Slawson told us. Of course, from the perspective of 20 years, we can now say that this was not needed at all. More disturbing is how the author wants to use taxation in an almost punitive way. For example, Slawson would virtually abolish all inherited wealth because he believes it's unfair to have money if you don't work. Yet, earlier in the book, he quotes Studs Terkel in Working, and tells us most people hate their jobs. So I guess Slawson wants everyone to be miserable. Everyone must work in miserable jobs. And what about the family farm or the family business? Why should the taxman take away the inherited family farm? All I can figure is Slawson must not have any kids because no father could wish such a future on his children.

Not the hobby standard
This claims to be an accurate price guide to US stamps, but it's not the one used by the vast majority of stamp collectors. If you want something that's more widely accepted, try the Scott catalogs. The Scott Specialized catalog for US stamps is THE standard catalog and price guide. Scott numbers and prices will give you a much better idea about the value of your stamps than this will. Most public libraries have a copy of Scott, and there is also a smaller, cheaper pocket edition.

The Salt and Pepper Shakers"The Confident Collector"
I am rather disappointed. Of the fifty salt and pepper shakers, I have, I could only find seven. I also felt the values were a lot lower then I found in other books that I have. Even though there are a lot of salt and pepper shakers mentioned, I feel there could be more description and more photos.

Not a Flea Market but a Garage Sale
I'm very disappointed with this book. It's title is deceiving. It's more about having a garage sale or outdoor yard-type sale. I wanted infomation about selling in indoor flea markets. I already KNOW how to have a garage sale.
