Review of African Adventure
Dodgy knowledge of animals and contempt towards accurate writing - Price ruins the adventure book. The series are so formulaic, and you get increasingly bored towards the end of the book

great adventure for everyone
I too read all the Hunt Boys books as a child, and I'm very much a girl. These are good stories for all ages and all gender. Some were written I think after I stopped reading them, and as soon as I get the cash I plan to buy all that I can find. One of the areas he wrote about, the Mountains of the Moon, are in Rwanda and the Parc de Volcans, today the site of much revolution, as well as the venue for Diane Fossey's mountain gorilla studies. They are NOT in libraries any more. I very much recommend these for the scientifically minded child.

This is a great book to invest in, and it's educational!
This book, about Hal, John, and Roger Hunt is great for avid or interested readers of all ages. It is educational, yet fun and exciting. Also try the rest of the adventure book series by Willard Price. As the three Hunts take a safari to Africa, more adventures occur, and more also in the several other great books! Amazon's the place to get them, and there great!

Could be great for some...
This book is unfortunately 'yet another' beginner TA book.

A couple of problems for more experienced practitioners:

- I noticed quite a few 'errors' in the book. Some are definitional issues, some are typos and some are just very poor examples (eg of charts).

- The feel I get from the book is that the author is not a very accomplished practitioner himself. Some issues that would be experienced by those who have been trading were not discussed. Eg false breaks were discussed, but were not compared with 'successful' patterns/breaks which exhibited similar circumstances (ie how to distinguish or set a strategy for potential false breaks).

- Quite a verbose writing style? I prefer more succint texts...

- I can't really say I learnt anything.

However, here's the positive side of things:

- Pretty comprehensive of basic concepts, with some useful and important concepts for beginners. Although I would suspect whether beginners would actually pick up on this. Eg comments on volume / cycles are worthy to note!

- Quite an easy read.

- Great additional commentary and 'integration' with psychology/experience that most beginning TA books do not have. Eg author constantly quotes appropriate gems from other books/top traders.

Overall, I think this is a good beginner book but experienced traders would not find much value in the book (especially the time spent on reading it!!).

Well written, well organized
This is a very well organized and very well written book. The first 75 pages or so is for the complete newbie. The only thing I don't like about this book is that there is no new information. All the information contained in this book can be found in many other technical analysis books. However, the ideas and information are very well grouped together, and I like the author's writing style.

Makes Technical Stock Analysis Simple
Everyone who trades stock or invests should read this book. Even if you invest this book will teach you about price fluctuate and how you can take advantage of these fluctuations. The book makes a difficult subject easy.

Average!
This was a short story about seduction. I have nothing against seduction. I like it a lot. BUT, you have to care about the characters in order for the seduction to be touching and moving. Ms Brown writed excellent sex/love scenes, but needs to write a good story around them. Skip this book. There are many good books out there to read. Try Madeline Hunter, Mary Balough, Connie Brockway, Jo Beverley, to name a few, if you want good stories with moving intimacy.

Way way to predictable and sweet
I found this story to be a bit to predictable for met. It is one of the early romance stories by Sandra Brown. If you are used to her suspense stories this will be a let down.

Blair is a dancer who had injured her knees and moves to a small town where a former dancer friend of hers lives. In this town she meets her landlord and a romance blooms....

This refers to the abridged audio tape version. It may be better in book form it seemed way to predictable in this form.

Sandra Brown at her best
This book is sweet and fun to read. These people are like people you might know . . . and that makes it interesting. It is a nice short read and perfect pick-me-up!

Cherished Teddies: Collector's Value Guide: Secondary Market Price Guide & Collector Handbook
Published in Paperback by CheckerBee Publishing (April, 1999)
Authors: Collectors Publishing Co, Checker Bee Publishing, and CheckerBee Publishing
Amazon base price: $13.95

Disappointed
I was a bit diappointed with the Cherished Teddies Collector Value Guide. The values are over-estimated, compared to E-bay and other secondary markets. There is not much in the way of information. All the Cherished Teddies are not in there. Basically just a lot of pictures, with release dates and price list. Contains sections for keeping records, and information about insurance. Nice to look at for wish list. A "fast food" approach to collecting. I would like to see more about the artwork, history, and what makes some Cherished Teddies more valuable.

cherished teddies
this book was not as informative as i thought it may be. I have an older book by a different author, and it gives a higher value and any rarities or varations that a teddie may have.. It's an OK book but i would have liked more info..

Very Handy
This book is handy for organizing your collection, and a MUST for any collector! It was essential in determining how much insurance coverage we should add when we married. Also, I have found it to be extremely handy for spotting Rare Bears and retired pieces, and the book has been a useful tool in online auctions.

Fine Art: Identification and Price Guide (Fine Art: Identification and Price Guide, 3rd Ed)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Avon (November, 1996)
Author: Susan Theran
Amazon base price: $23.00
Used price: $12.99
Average review score:

out of date
While Theran's book has an excellent list of artists the price guide is way out of date and a new and updated edition is very definitely needed.

Great intro sections, and an update will be welcome
The bulk of the books lists artists' names and price ranges listed by artist, high and low, with a sprinkling of short essays on particular artists. Even more fun and useful are the chapters in the begininng -- Where to Buy Art, Dealing with Dealers, How to Sell, Restoration. They're a neat overview of the problems, pitfalls, and strategies for navigating the art market.

Don't leave home without it
This book goes with me everywhere. Many non-specialty auctions have a few paintings worthy of consideration. I find that Theran's book {& several of her other books: on prints, etc,} makes a difference in how I bid. I have definitely been pleased with the results.

A Fresh New Look
As an investor for over some 20 years, I am always interested in new strategies, forecasts and presciptions for successful investing. Mr. Isaacman's book offers a fresh new perspective which incorporates all of the newly developed tools available to today's investor. Concise but conclusive, the Nasdaq Investor addresses a host of investment strategies which the new investor will be able to employ to assist in building their portofolio's performance and wealth, and the established investor can utilize to revamp, overhaul or adjust their portfolios to simply attain better results with less risk and anxiety. The book can also be used as a reference guide for various strategies in different market cycles which is really nice as the markets have become so dynamic in the recent past. The author's 35 years of experience in the investment community is brought to the forefront in the Nasdaq Investor.

the nasdaq investor
this book showed me the importance of having a dicipline.the book was easy to read and helped me create a strategy using index investing.mr.Isaacman's book makes a significant contribution to the current body of investment knowledge.

Nasdaq Investor Review
Excellent primer for those seeking to profit from the Nasdaq market. Max Issacman explains why the market is the hottest and most volatile; how even a novice investor can easily experience the market through QQQ shares; and why now may be the time to invest when the herd is headed in the opposite direction.

1 Technique Explained in Dull Fashion
This book was written in '96 and as such, Easy Language could have been included since it was available then. The system requires high maintenance observation (in 1 minute, 5 minute, 15 minute and 60 minute charts in each future discussed) that would require programming assistance in the background. NB Another reviewer states he has programmed this in ELA & offers his email address.

There are many charts which take up half of the book, but since most of the time the chart being referenced in the text is on another page, it's a hassle to jump back and forth. The writing style could cure insomnia.

As in Larry Williams' daytrading book, this book would have benefitted greatly by inclusion of Performance Reports with Profit Factors, ROI, consecutive losers and the like. In fairness to the author, he provides the results of all trades in a month period for the different time periods (1-minute through 60-minutes) for various futures including the DM. These could have been enhanced with profit targets, it was surprising to see better than potential $1000+ trades allowed to turn into losers.

Once the single system was explained, the various futures could have been presented with 1 time frame Performance Report and the best value, on successive pages.

Unfortunately since Barnes limited himself to 1 month of trades, there is insufficient information on those time frames greater than 1 or 5 minute charts, to determine the validity of the system. One needs a minimum of 30 samples and in many instances there are only 3 trades for the time period presented.

Better editing would have enhanced the value of this book in making it more comprehensible and capable of the system being confirmed as being viable.

Original thinking!
I used the system outlined in the book to develop a highly successful longer term system that makes very good returns with low drawdowns. It also recovers very quickly from losses. Enough said!

High impact day trading
VERY HELPFULL BOOK FOR THE NOVICE. QUICK DELIVERY

The Psychology of Technical Analysis: Profiting From Crowd Behavior and the Dynamics of Price

Harder then hell to read
Hardest to understand book on stocks to date for me. Where is my asprin :0)

Efficient market or the herd behavior?
Everyday, reporters and analysts produce dozens of reports about the markets and they try to forecast what will happen next. Most of the time, analyst forecasts are wrong. Market action is in the unexpected direction. The reason why the analysts are often wrong is that they use efficient market hypothesis as a method to forecast the market action. Is the market really efficient and individuals behave rationally or the herd psychology is the main reason of the price action which is following certain patterns?

Read this book.

Mr. Plummer's book handles the problem as a psychological phenomen and examines the dynamics of crowd behaviour. This book clearly describes how financial crowds integrate and disintegrate. Every crowd has a life cycle and in this cycle, the growth, maturity and decline periods follow each other. Mathematical model of the formation and disintegration periods of the bull and bear crowd life cycles, is the Fibonacci number series and this book explains the connections between the growth and decline periods.

Mr Plummer further explains Logarithmic spiral and golden ratio in detail and how they can be used to forecast the future market movements.

This book is a must-read for the financial professionals and the traders.

The market Lives
Tony Plummer did a great job in helping me understand thisliving, breathing, and ever changing organism, the crowd/market;brevity and clairty and beautiful presentation; this book will never be outdated.

Poverty Bay (Anderson Price Promo)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Fawcett Books (13 June, 1998)
Author: Earl Emerson
Amazon base price: $3.99
Used price: $0.90
Average review score:

Bleak tale of the homeless in Seattle
Poverty Bay is a solid enough mystery wrapped in a depressing ambiance. In this second book in the series, Thomas Black is hired to locate a missing man, Lance. Lance failed to meet his black girlfriend at the marriage license bureau. It turns out that Lance is the sole heir to a 15 million dollar fortune who has lived as a street person for the last few years. Hence, Thomas follows a trail through both the homeless life of Seattle and the black sub-culture as he seeks Lance.

This was a pretty good read. The clues, while sometimes pretty improbable, turn up regularly. Still, there's no glamour in this tale or humor.

Lots of holes from the very beginning of this one
Very tiresome reading of this one since it got so many holes from the very beginning without any appropriate logic and explanation. Trying very hard to create a cool p.i. sometimes might only left bad taste for a thinking reader. Gulping up blindly without thinking while reading a detective story would not good for your health, at least not for your brain.

Poverty Bay
This is the second novel in the Thomas Black series by Earl Emerson. This book has a strong plot and Emerson describes the atmosphere of Seattle to perfection in this book. Lance Tyner is the heir to his grandfather's fortune of $15 million. When Tyner diappears, Black investigates, and goes to some dreary places where the dregs of humanity struggle to stay alive. This is a strong addition to the series which began with "The Rainy City." Black and his friend, Kathy Birchfield, are likeable and believeable characters.

Nervous Laughter (Anderson Price Promo)

A Good Read
Mr. Darell Y. Hamamoto wrote a review that Mr. Black had copped the title from one of his book. The funny thing is that Mr. Emerson's book was written in 1986 and Mr. Hamamoto's was written in 1989. Seems like Mr. Hamamoto should make an apology to Mr.Emerson rather than the other way around. This a fine addition to the Thomas Black series.

Nervous Laughter
Nervous Laughter is the third novel in Emerson's Thomas Black series, set in Seattle. Black is asked to follow Mark Daniels to find out if he is having an affair. When Black finds the lovers, they are dead, both Daniels and his teenage lover, Bea Hindenburg. The police rule it a murder-suicide, but Daniels' widow doesn't think so. Black finds quite a few suspects along the way in solving this case. Earl Emerson is one of the finest writers of mysteries today, and Nervous Laughter is one of the best of the series.

Excellent, as always
When I started to look at Emerson's reviews, I was startled that "Nervous Laughter" only got a "2 star" ranking. One reviewer obviously had something else in mind and probably didn't read the entire book. PI Thomas Black is following a rich man who is suspected of cheating on his wife. As he stakes out the site of the supposed tryst, he discovers that the rich man and his teenage lover are dead. Black must find out if it's murder or suicide. Earl Emerson is one of the best mystery writers working today. He paints a perfect picture of Seattle, and his 2 main characters, Thomas Black and Kathy Birchfield, are 2 of the most likeable characters in the mystery genre.
